Naptown Blues Fancast host Sam Huston breaks down a rollercoaster week for your Annapolis Blues in the USL2 Chesapeake Division. First up: a dominant 3-0 road win against the Virginia Marauders. With squad rotation in full effect, the Blues came out hot, backed by flares and full voice from the Bay Bhoys. Matt Lenert bagged a brace and Emmett Kershner sealed it late, while Mikey Johnson made his debut. Stream issues couldn't stop the vibes, and Sam caught up with Matt post-match for an exclusive chat. Then it was back home on Father's Day for a gritty showdown vs. NoVa FC. After a heated first half that saw three early yellow cards for the Blues and a questionable goal for NoVa, the second half delivered chaos. Matt Lenert equalized with a beauty from an Albi Ndrenika dime, but late drama—including a gut-punch penalty and a straight red—saw the Blues fall 2-1. Also in this episode: A supporter yells, “You ruined my Father's Day!” A check-in with the Blues Women, still undefeated and ranked 8th nationally Matchday vibes, supporter shoutouts, and a referee rant (plus Malört) Catch us on your favorite podcast app, follow us @NaptownBluesPod, and visit AnnapolisBlues.com for tickets, merch, and more. We start with Doug's past as a member of the College Republicans, a segment of his life that seems almost distant now but also eerily relevant to the political climate we face today. His college experience at Ohio State in the mid-'80s was marked by a growing awareness of the discrepancies in the political narrative he had been raised with. Doug recounts how the rising tide of conservatism he once embraced began to clash with the realities he encountered—especially when it came to grappling with issues of race, free speech, and the responsibility of politicians towards their constituents. Then we examine the current political theater in Los Angeles, where President Trump's administration has been deploying the National Guard to suppress protests—despite local law enforcement asserting that the situation was under control. This aggressive response is less about maintaining order and more about sending a message, punishing California for its dissent against Trump's dictatorial tendencies. The reckless display of power raises critical concerns about a government that no longer feels the need to ask for cooperation but rather demands compliance. Digging deeper into the issue of immigration enforcement, we highlight the detrimental impact of ICE's recent actions in Los Angeles, a situation that reflects a broader pattern of racial profiling and abuse of power. The targeting of undocumented workers not only perpetuates a cycle of fear but also threatens the very fabric of our economy, as these individuals contribute significantly to industries that many Americans overlook. Local economies are disrupted, and the communities that rely on these workers suffer as well. We draw parallels between my college disillusionment and the current political landscape, where the values we once accepted are now recognized as harmful to the principles of justice and equity.Through personal anecdotes and current events, we emphasize the importance of free speech and peaceful protest, recalling a significant moment during Doug's college years when a counter-protester challenged a political figure's narrative. It served as a crucial reminder of the necessity for dissent in a democracy, a point that resonates strongly with the protests happening in response to Trump's actions today. We must resist the toxic mix of nationalism and authoritarianism that has taken root in our political discourse.Full Show Notes & Links Used Send us a textSupport the showSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our MerchFollow us on BlueskyFind us on Twitter(for now) Find us on InstagramFind us on Counter SocialFind us on Mastadon

Trust in universities has cratered, ideological divisions are deepening, and the future of higher education is hotly contested. How do we repair our academic institutions without tearing them down entirely? Today on Heterodox Out Loud, host John Tomasi welcomes Michael Roth, President of Wesleyan University, historian, and esteemed thought leader on liberal education, for a frank and probing dialogue. Drawing on recent Gallup polling data, Michael and John examine the collapse of public trust in higher education, particularly among conservatives, and the orchestrated efforts across the spectrum to delegitimize academic institutions. Michael discusses the double bind facing universities: the hard-won gains in gender, racial, and religious inclusion overlaying a stark decline in viewpoint and ideological diversity among faculty and students. The discussion traverses the enduring tensions between diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and the imperative of open inquiry. Roth critiques both anti-elitist grievance-mongering and the insularity of academic circles, arguing for an educational environment that prizes rigorous debate, intellectual pluralism, and genuine mutual respect. Together, Tomasi and Roth confront thorny questions: How do universities maintain their relevance in a polarized society? Is the narrowing of acceptable discourse stifling academic innovation? And what role should university leaders play amid mounting political interventions and societal pressures? In This Episode:

Attorney Tony Buzbee, known for representing over 100 alleged victims in sexual assault lawsuits against Sean "Diddy" Combs, has encountered a significant legal hurdle. The Committee on Grievances for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) recently denied his application for admission to practice in the district, citing his failure to seek proper admission before appearing in cases within its jurisdiction. This decision restricts Buzbee from litigating in the SDNY, which encompasses key areas including New York City's five boroughs. In response, Buzbee has indicated plans to seek "pro hac vice" admission, a legal provision allowing attorneys not licensed in a specific jurisdiction to practice temporarily for particular cases, contingent upon court approval. This process requires him to attach the denial order to each request for admission moving forward. Despite this setback, Buzbee maintains that he is licensed to practice law in New York State and remains committed to his ongoing cases.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Tony Buzbee, attorney for sexual assault suits against Jay-Z and Diddy, hit with minor roadblock

Grief Is Grief: Why Everyone Should Sign This PetitionToday's episode brings attention to a critical, often overlooked gap in workplace policy: the lack of national grievance leave for parents who experience pregnancy loss before 24 weeks. Currently, there is no legal protection or standard allowance for time off — it's left to individual employers to decide, leaving many to return to work while still deep in grief.I'm joined by Fidessa, a powerful voice behind a growing petition calling for grievance time to be recognized on a national scale — regardless of pregnancy gestation. While a draft government proposal begins support at week 24, we ask the difficult question: What about the grief before that? Is it any less real? This conversation is about raising awareness, honouring early loss, and pushing for policies that reflect the lived realities of so many parents. Miscarriage, stillbirth, and pregnancy loss deserve more than silence and a swift return to business as usual. Please don't just listen — sign the petition and share it widely. Ask your partner, friends, family, and coworkers to stand with us in recognizing that grief has no timeline — and support shouldn't either.Thank you to Fidessa and Renée for both putting the effort into creating this .Click on the link hereTime to Grieve report in UK

Something is deeply rotten at the Supreme Court. How did we get here and what can we do about it? Crooked Media podcast host Leah Litman shines a light on the unabashed lawlessness embraced by conservative Supreme Court justices and shows us how to fight back. With the gravitas of Joan Biskupic and the irreverence of Elie Mystal, Leah Litman brings her signature wit to the question of what's gone wrong at One First Street. In Lawless, she argues that the Supreme Court is no longer practicing law; it's running on vibes. By "vibes," Litman means legal-ish claims that repackage the politics of conservative grievance and dress them up in robes. Major decisions adopt the language and posture of the law, while in fact displaying a commitment to protecting a single minority: the religious conservatives and Republican officials whose views are no longer shared by a majority of the country. Dahlia Lithwick's Lady Justice meets Rebecca Traister's Good and Mad as Litman employs pop culture references and the latest decisions to deliver a funny, zeitgeisty, pulls-no-punches cri de coeur undergirded by impeccable scholarship. She gives us the tools we need to understand the law, the dynamics of courts, and the stakes of this current moment-even as she makes us chuckle on every page and emerge empowered to fight for a better future.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The five men on the Supreme Court are so easily triggered and seem to be making law based on their emotional needs. Meanwhile, they also see discrimination in some of the best things about America—like equality or the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. And at the White House, the press office got totally bored with the worshipful questions from MAGA media and invited The Bulwark's Andrew Egger over—so Karoline Leavitt could mix it up with a reporter who'd definitely ask tough questions. Plus, Trump's crypto grift reaches new heights, Gorsuch is oddly obsessed with the EPA, and the toadies are getting whipsawed by the constant tariff adjustments. In recent years the U.S. Supreme Court's conservative supermajority has struck down the constitutional right to abortion, delivered a blow to the administrative state and ended affirmative action at universities.
