So, the question; what is comfrey? Comfrey is a perennial flowering herb that grows in many states across North America. It goes by other names such as; boneset, bruisewort, knitbone, and others. As you probably noticed, the names also identify the healing properties. Some people consider it a weed because of how it spreads and how hard it is to get rid of once you have it. However, there are those of us that know the healing benefits it has and considers it a must as an herb in the field of home remedies or natural herbals. Where Does Comfrey Come From? Comfrey has been around since ancient Greece. It was claimed to have been used to aid wounded soldiers that fought for Alexander the Great. What Does The Plant Look Like? Comfrey has a root system that can go down as deep as 10ft. And because of depth, the root system brings up wonderful and essential elements such as -- magnesium, potassium, and phosphorous. These elements add greatly to your garden as the elements are stored in the leaves and when they die return to the earth and enrich the soil. Where Do You Plant Comfrey? Comfrey needs to be kept in a border unless you don't mind it spreading. Just remember once planted it is there to stay. The plant can grow up to 4ft tall and loves rich moist soil. When Should You Harvest? It is harvested in the Summer, so plant your seeds in the Spring or divide already established plants in the Fall. Now that we've established what comfrey is, let's talk about how to use it. First, there are those who think you should not take comfrey internally because of pyrrolizidine alkaloids which are found in the stalk and a smaller amount in the leaves. Studies have shown this to be toxic to the liver. However, some also say you would have to have a high amount for this to happen. I recommend doing your own research and make the best decision for you. Top Ten Benefits of Comfrey #1 Skin "Softens Skin: There’s allantoin in comfrey extract. Allantoin is a moisturizer that creates a protective film over skin cells. That film helps to lock in moisture and prevent drying. It also helps your outermost layer of skin to shed more easily. Although this may sound a bit icky, it’s an important process (and so satisfying) to help your skin heal and remain healthy and glowing.Fights Inflammation: Allantoin is also an anti-inflammatory substance. It’s used in a few medical treatments to help with issues such as rashes and burns. This property makes using comfrey for acne a great idea. It helps stop that uncomfortable inflammation and reduces the intensity of acne!Antioxidant: The Rosmarinic acid in comfrey is an antioxidant. You probably already know that such substances are good for you but may not know why. For skincare, the main benefit is protection against harm from UV rays.Protect Against Environmental Harm: There are tannins in comfrey root. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait around while these tannins mellow! Instead, when you apply the extract, they will protect your skin from bacteria and toxins." -blume.com There are soaps online you can buy which improve acne and restore the normal pH balance of the skin. Or you can make your own. #2 Bruises - #3 Reduces Inflammation "Comfrey has a long history of use as a topical agent for treating wounds, skin ulcers, thrombophlebitis, bruises, and sprains and strains. Comfrey has anti-inflammatory properties that may decrease bruising and help heal wounds when the herb is applied topically. #4 Sprains In a study of people with acute ankle sprains, topical application of an ointment four times a day containing a comfrey extract was at least as effective as, and possibly more effective than, a topically applied anti-inflammatory drug (diclofenac). The comfrey ointment was a proprietary product that contained 35% comfrey extract. #5 Wounds - #6 Broken Bones - #7 Cuts Comfrey is used in traditional medicine as a topical application to help...

Tara took her last drink February 4, 2019. This is her story. On today’s episode Paul talks about the top 10 reasons for quitting drinking. Number one; your authentic self will begin to emerge. Number two; you don’t have a headache due to lack of aspirin in your system. Number three; you’ll begin to find out who you aren’t. Number four; you’re open to signs from the universe. Number five; you can start to see the insanity of the mind. Number six; your brain will start to produce regular amounts of melatonin. Number seven; welcome back oxytocin. Number eight; you’re part of something much bigger. Number nine; you stop hoping. Number ten; you have a chance to start working on the one big lesson you’ve signed up for in this lifetime. [19:15] Paul introduces Tara. Tara is 46 years old and lives in Seattle, WA. She is a preschool teacher, founded her own preschool 25 years ago. She is married to her high school sweetheart and has 2 adult children. For fun Tara loves to dance. [22:30] Give us a background on your drinking. Tara says there were 3 scary moments that caused her to pause and think that alcohol could be a problem. The first was when she was 15 years old and she was at a wedding and the bar was opened up to her. This was a formal wedding and Tara jumped into the pool. She was the only one in the pool. Tara’s second scary moment was also in high school. She was at a party drinking hard alcohol and decided to get into the hot tub. Tara says she got so sick that she threw up blood. Tara’s third scary moment came when she was in her forties and was on an annual girl’s trip to Palm Springs. She drank like she normally did, with no off switch, and she fell and hit her head. All Tara could think about when that happened is that that was how her dad died. [38:25] Talk to us about right before you quit drinking. Tara says she went to a party and started drinking, and instead of calming her anxiety like she felt alcohol usually did, her anxiety amped up. It made her question how much she was going to have to drink to feel that ‘warm blanket’. [42:50] Your Dad is listening right now, what do you have to say to him? Tara said she just wants to let her Dad know that she loves him, and she’s proud of him. [45:20] How did your relationship with your husband change after you quit drinking? Tara says that her bond with her husband is even stronger and deeper now. [49:00] What has been your biggest challenge this last year? Tara says is the ones that kind or catch you out of nowhere. [50:40] What’s an excuse you used to tell yourself of why you couldn’t quit drinking? Tara said it was telling herself that she didn’t drink every day or that she didn’t drink by herself. [51:20] What are your thoughts on relapse? Tara says that on a personal level she doesn’t see it happening to herself. [54:40] Rapid Fire Round What’s a lightbulb moment you’ve had on this journey? I’m happier without alcohol. What is a memorable moment that a life without alcohol has provided you? A trip to Costa Rica and no drinking whatsoever. What’s your favorite alcohol-free drink? I like iced tea or Bubly water with a little mint in it. What are some of your favorite resources? I love to listen to your podcast, and many others. What is on your bucket list in a life without alcohol? A lot more travel, and I hope to go to Thailand. What parting piece of guidance can you give to listeners? Just stick with it. You might need to ditch the booze if... You put a bikini on at a formal wedding and jump into the pool when nobody else is in the pool. Upcoming Events and Retreats. Rosemary is good for your health whether it's fresh dried or used as an oil. Vitamins A and C are present in the plant. Also, some minerals include folate, zinc, riboflavin, thiamin, copper, magnesium, phosphorus and iron. You can grow rosemary year-round. Just place it in a pot and keep inside when temperatures get to be freezing or below outside. It likes to stay dry almost like a cactus so don't give it too much love or it might not last. Dictionary.com describes rosemary as being an evergreen shrub, Rosmarinus officinalis, of the mint family, native to the Mediterranean region, having leathery, narrow leaves and pale-blue, bell-shaped flowers, used as a seasoning and in perfumery and medicine: a traditional symbol of remembrance. Here is a little more history about the herb. "Rosemary's name is rooted in legend. The story goes that during her flight from Egypt, the Virgin Mary draped her blue cloak on a Rosemary bush. She then laid a white flower on top of the cloak. That night, the flower turned blue and the bush was thereafter known as the 'rose of Mary'. Greeks, who wove Rosemary wreaths into their hair, believed Rosemary strengthened the brain and enhanced memory. It was also known as a symbol of fidelity. In the Middle Ages, Rosemary was used medicinally and as a condiment for salted meats. In Europe, wedding parties burned Rosemary as incense. Judges burned it to protect against illness brought in by prisoners." The herb can be used as or in: Aromatherapy Cooking in salads, dips, soups and or sandwiches.
