Speaking across the decades, from the 1960s to the 2010s, Ram Dass shares his insights into responding to suffering, the meaning of service, and the confluence of social action and spiritual work. The Ram Dass community gathers regularly to engage in meaningful discussions about the podcast. We invite you to join us and share your curiosities, insights, and wisdom. Sign up for the General Fellowship to receive event invitations directly in your inbox. This episode of Here and Now is a compilation of Ram Dass talking about service and social action across the decades. We begin in 1969, during a time of significant cultural change. A time where the people of the United States found themselves in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement, the anti-war protests, and the rise of Women's Liberation. Ram Dass explores the concept of social responsibility and talks about why protesting should come from a place not of anger, but of love.Next, we move to 1983. The media landscape has transformed in the wake of the Iran hostage crisis, political paradigms shift as Ronald Reagan makes his way to power, and communities all over the world begin to feel the impact of the growing AIDS epidemic. Ram Dass talks about learning to trust one's intuitive inner voice when it comes to responding to suffering, and how we can bring together social action and spiritual work. Two years later, it is 1985 and the world has rapidly evolved. The Soviet Union has become a global threat. The nightly news shows the Apartheid regime in South Africa violently cracking down on Civil Rights activists, while the Reagan administration stands by, focused instead on rolling back civil liberties at home in the United States. Ram Dass offers perspective on navigating these challenges with an open heart. He explores the difference between dharma and seva, and why service requires us to embrace paradox in our lives. It is 1993, technology is transforming the world and how we engage with it. Ram Dass explores how being too attached to the fruits of our actions can be detrimental to social action work, leading activists to burn out quickly. We end our journey across the decades in 2018, in the middle of the first Trump administration in America. Wars rage on, and civil liberty is at risk across the globe. How do we oppose this skillfully and with an open heart? Ram Dass talks about how karma yoga is the key to finding the right balance between working on yourself and taking action for the benefit of others. And if you're too obsessed with the goal, you lose it. If you're too obsessed with the goal, since in much action you don't get what you want, you'll burn out much sooner. And so, the injunction of the Bhagavad Gita, which says be not identified with being the actor, be not attached to the fruits of the action, and yet, the action happens.” – Ram DassSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Come set sail and join us for a special tour of Honey Fitz, a presidential yacht. For almost a century, from 1880 to 1977, every president had access to a yacht. They were used as tools of diplomacy and hospitality, and quite often, as a means of escape and relaxation. Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association, traveled to Jupiter, Florida to see one of these yachts which is now privately owned by businessman Charles Modica. Stewart speaks with Charles as well as Captains Gregory Albritton and Katelyn Kiefer, who oversaw the incredible restoration. First built in 1931 and named Lenore, the vessel was requisitioned for use during World War II and used for patrol duty by the U.S. Coast Guard. Then she was used by five presidents, from Harry S. Truman to Richard Nixon, and had a different name under each president. President Eisenhower named her Barbara Anne after his granddaughter, and President Kennedy christened the yacht in honor of his maternal grandfather, John Francis Fitzgerald, whose nickname, of course, was Honey Fitz. After being decommissioned and sold to a private owner in 1971, the yacht passed through several different hands and underwent modifications. Now, Honey Fitz has been lovingly brought back to life to resemble the time it was used by President Kennedy and his family. They were meticulous in replicating details, from cushions designed from sketches by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, to the bell on the bow of the boat. Follow along to learn more about floating White House history. The White House Historical Association publication Away from the White House: Presidential Escapes, Retreats, and Vacations by Lawrence Knutson presents a lively and interesting slice of the presidency that most of us know little about: How the president relaxes away from the White House. This week on the Anxious Creative Podcast, I'm getting real about the messy intersection of anxiety and imposter syndrome. I'm sharing my own hilarious (in hindsight) and cringe-worthy experience of quitting my dream job because my anxiety convinced me I was a fraud. We'll dive into the oh-so-familiar feelings of panic, the urge to please everyone, and that deep-seated belief that you're just not good enough. But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom! I'm also dropping some hard-won wisdom and actionable tips on how to actually move through these feelings without resorting to hiding, quitting, or those tearful bathroom floor moments. If you've ever felt like anxiety is running your life or that little voice of self-doubt is screaming louder than your ambition, this episode is for you. We'll explore:why taking imperfect action is crucial, how to feel your way through anxiety instead of overthinking it, and why sometimes, the most rebellious thing you can do is disappoint others to step into your own power. Plus, I'm sharing a book recommendation that's been a game-changer for me. In this heartfelt solo episode, Kim reflects on the deep, emotional theme of “coming home to yourself.” As she prepares to lead her women's retreat called The Embodied Woman in Costa Rica, Kim shares how this experience is about expansion, awakening, and reconnection. Through a personal story with our daughter Tessa, she explores the idea that true safety and belonging don't come from external achievements, titles, or other people—but from within.Kim emphasizes that “home” is not a destination, but a frequency—an inner knowing, a quiet peace, and a return to self. The episode challenges the performative nature of modern life, encouraging listeners to drop the mask, hold boundaries, and stop waiting for healing to be complete before moving forward.Kim urges us to stop chasing external validation and instead anchor our goals in our values and mission. She invites listeners to explore what “home” feels like for them and to give themselves permission to be whole, worthy, and full right now. The desire to share life with a partner doesn't just disappear when we choose to start our families on our own. And it doesn't have to. Today's new episode is a beautiful reminder that both things can be true: you can want motherhood and partnership, and you don't have to give up one to have the other. At 35, Erin Russell was faced with the hard realization that her family line would end with her if she didn't pursue parenthood soon, so she started seriously considering solo motherhood. But right as she was preparing to begin fertility treatments, life threw her a curveball — she met someone.Erin was clear about what she wanted and gave the relationship space to grow. But when it became obvious they weren't aligned on having kids, she made the powerful decision to walk away. She ordered donor sperm the very next day.Becoming a mom didn't erase Erin's hope of sharing life with a partner. Just two months after her son was born, she started dating again — not out of pressure or urgency, but as a way to reconnect with herself, enjoy adult time, and stay open to love. Now that her son is two and she's happily in a relationship that feels like the right fit, Erin reflects on what it's been like to still want partnership as a solo mom by choice, and how she's navigating love, parenting, and a changing sense of identity all at once.In this episode, we talk about:How Erin knew it was time to pursue solo motherhoodThe challenges of navigating IUI, IVF, and insurance hurdlesWhy "just surviving" the newborn stage isn't enough, and how building a support system made all the differenceThe guilt and reality of sending your baby to daycare as a solo momDating as a solo mom: why Erin started early, how she set her own pace, and what she looked for in a partnerHow she's weaving her new relationship into her solo mom lifeAnd why the grief of doing it alone doesn't just disappear once your baby arrivesWhether you're considering solo motherhood, already parenting, or wondering if dating might fit into your life someday, Erin's story is full of honesty, hope, and real-world encouragement for wherever you are on the path.Want to connect with Erin Russell?Follow Erin on InstagramCheck out Erin's writingRead Erin's article on SMBCs (featuring me as an interviewee!)

Welcome to another powerful episode of The George Peterson Podcast! In this special episode, I'm excited to share a conversation I had recently as part of The Spiritual Book Club's Life Changing Chat series with the amazing Jacinta. This was an honest, eye-opening discussion on addiction, trauma, Breathwork, and healing—and one that I believe will resonate deeply with anyone on the path of personal growth. We unpacked some of the big myths around addiction and why, in my experience, we often treat it backwards. It's not about asking why the addiction?—but why the pain? Because behind every addictive pattern is an unmet emotion or wound we haven't yet learned to sit with.We explored:My personal journey through addiction recoveryHow addiction shows up beyond substances—think phones, social media, judgmentThe role of distraction in sabotaging our dreamsWhy Breathwork is such a powerful tool to move through emotional pain and traumaHow regular meditation helps us stop bullshitting ourselves and make the growth zone our new comfort zoneAnd why the best way to inspire others into this work is to embody it yourselfThis conversation is a deep dive into emotional honesty, healing through discomfort, and how Breathwork and meditation can help us break free from the patterns that hold us back.

Okay, confession time. This episode? It's one of those episodes—the kind you always tell me you love most. The unscripted, emotional, straight-from-the-heart kind. Recorded from my bed, with a lump in my throat and no filter.I'm taking you back to the night I truly believed I was going to die. What started as a weird gut feeling after a pizza night turned into vomiting, convulsions, numb limbs, and a hospital visit that I'll never forget. It's about:what I learned in the middle of that stormhow to recognize when your nervous system is overwhelmedwhat to do in the moment to stop the spiral, and why this experience helped me understand anxiety in a whole new way.If you've ever felt like you're too much, too sensitive, or like your anxiety is running the show, please listen to this. You're not broken. Your body isn't betraying you. You're not alone—and there is a way through. So grab your cozy blanket, settle in, and let's talk about how to stop a panic attack before it even starts.Links & Resources:Join Rock Your Business to align your decisions with your goals.Grab my FREE Masterclass on Overwhelmed to Profitable, how to build a sustainable Stress-Free Business. This work of walking with grief and death found Ash after being diagnosed and hospitalized with a chronic illness called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. It was in their most challenging days and scariest moments where death was close---that Ash realized what it was they would offer to this world. "It was when I began to face my own death from my long term chronic illness that I was initiated in the astral plane by my grandmother Ida Canty, who was in spirit. She told me I would be supporting others in the physical world, lessening their fear of death and being a bridge of communication from the spirit realm to this physical realm." Retreats are an ancient practice for Catholics to get away from the day-to-day life and allow God to work in their hearts in a deeply intimate way. Brian Rhude, Project Coordinator at the Catholic Apostolate Center and Campus Minister for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, joins this episode of On Mission with Chris Pierno, Sarah Scalfaro, and Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C.Whether one goes on a day retreat or a weeklong silent retreat, retreats are a means to grow closer to Christ and to reinvigorate one's spiritual and prayer life. Engaged couples go on retreats to prepare for marriage. And other lay men and women take annual weekend retreats to enter deeper prayer. Many priests and religious, too, go on retreat to recharge their relationship with God in a profound way. Some religious orders' charism provides retreat experiences for people. Brian Rhude explains the many different kinds of retreats and how one can take their experiences home with them and allow the Lord to continually speak to them. The simplest retreat one can do every day is spending time with Jesus in daily prayer. In this exploration of the fear of suffering as we get older, Ram Dass talks about approaching the mystery of aging and death in the same adventurous manner as his friend Timothy Leary. For more on the relationship between Ram Dass and Timothy Leary, please check out Dying to Know, a book that details their epic friendship and Timothy's process of dying. The Ram Dass community gathers regularly to engage in meaningful discussions about the podcast. We invite you to join us and share your curiosities, insights, and wisdom. Sign up for the General Fellowship to receive event invitations directly in your inbox. This talk from June 1996 is part of an aging study group Ram Dass conducted to help guide his book on aging, Still Here.Fear of future suffering is a major issue for all us, but especially when it comes to aging. Ram Dass explores how we tend to respond to that fear with massive denial, and how we can work on coming to terms with those fears through a shift in perspective.Ram Dass talks about how his work with people who are severely ill or in the process of dying has helped prepare him for his own death. He talks about the fear of losing one's analytic, linear mind, which is so valued in this culture, and how we can open ourselves up to the value of non-linear thinking. Finally, Ram Dass details the time he spent with his old friend Timothy Leary as he approached his death. For Timothy, death was another glorious adventure. Ram Dass wonders if we shouldn't all add a touch of the “Leary Method” as a way to approach the mystery of aging and dying.Sponsors of this Episode:Ram Dass Here & Now is brought to you by BetterHelp. When you're approaching a mystery, what space do you want to be in in your head? Getting free of guilt? I mean, is that the one you want? Which one do you want? Which one opens to the possibilities? And Timothy was an adventurer, I mean, as I can tell you from being in the backwash for years. Timothy took me fighting and screaming into adventure. He opened up the whole image of dying into the possibility that it was a celebratory, adventurous, exciting part of life.” – Ram DassSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Today's not your typical polished podcast episode. It's real, raw, and unfiltered—because that's what I needed, and maybe you do too.I recorded this right from my couch while processing a really tough day. My motivation was gone, my heart was heavy, and I was spiraling in overthinking. Then I cracked open Lessons for Living by Phil Stutz and felt seen. So I'm bringing three of the tools from that book straight to you:Speed: Why taking quick, messy action (even if you fail) is better than overthinking your way into success.Density: How doing more imperfect things can build momentum and confidence faster than doing one “perfect” thing.Nightly Review: A 10-minute reflection that helps you stay grounded and on purpose—even when everything feels like too much.I also open up about where I've been emotionally, how I've lost and rebuilt motivation, and what it's really like when the inner critic gets loud. You'll hear the tears, the laughter, and maybe see yourself in this story too.So cozy up. We're not fixing everything today—we're just showing up. And sometimes, that's more than enough.Links & Resources:Client Convo Mastery: Get over 50 scripts and templates for navigating awkward client conversations for at dawnbradley.com/convo Join Rock Your Business to align your decisions with your goals.Grab my FREE Masterclass on Getting Out of Your Own Way and Actually Doing The Things That Make Your Business Grow.Follow me: Instagram: www.instagram.com/dawnbradleyYoutube: www.youtube.com/dawnbradley For more info on RYB, Retreats etc: www.dawnbradley.com
