"The rates of fractures are highest in the high milk drinking countries, basically North America, Scandinavia, Denmark, and they're lowest in countries that actually don't consume milk at all." Today, we're joined by one of the most influential and widely cited figures in nutrition science. Dr. Walter Willett, Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, has published over 2,000 papers across four decades. His work includes some of the largest and most rigorous studies on diet and chronic disease ever conducted. He is the author of several books, including the bestselling Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy, which challenged prevailing nutrition dogma and offered a clearer, evidence-based path forward. In this conversation, we examine the eating patterns most closely linked to longevity—for both human health and the health of the planet—the rise of foods designed for convenience rather than nourishment, and the risks they pose. We also break down the practical steps that offer the greatest protection against illness. So tune in for the rare opportunity to hear from a scientist and physician whose work continues to define the boundaries of nutrition. What we discuss: The potential risks of dairy consumption during adolescence in relation to bone health. Dairy-free sources of calcium and how to meet needs without milk. Concerns with current dietary guidelines and how they may mislead the public. Why plant protein sources are preferable to animal sources. The Planetary Health Diet and what it emphasizes. How diet influences susceptibility to infectious diseases, especially in children. The types of processed foods most harmful to health. The primary drivers of the obesity epidemic. Practical tips for eating healthier with limited access to fresh foods. Key principles to follow when navigating conflicting nutrition advice. Resources: Walter C. Willett | Harvard T.H. Dr Eugene Manley grew up in Detroit in the 1980s cycling through emergency rooms 20 to 30 times a year with asthma and anaphylaxis while hospital staff talked past his family and buried them in paperwork they could not decode. He responded by earning a BS in mechanical engineering an MS in biomedical engineering and a PhD in molecular biology cell biology and biochemistry. Along the way he tore his ACL training for a jiu jitsu black belt worked 86 straight days in a lab during his doctorate and learned how academic and clinical systems punish people who refuse to shrink. In this episode Manley walks through a recent post surgery ordeal at Mount Sinai Queens where staff falsified records attempted an illegal discharge and nearly sent him home on the wrong blood thinner. He explains how medical racism shows up in charts staffing and decision making and why measurable equity fails without accountability. Listeners hear how his STEMM and Cancer Health Equity Foundation builds pipelines for underrepresented students challenges clinical trial design and teaches patients how to protect themselves when institutions lie. Rooster Walk is officially the #1 music festival in the region. After years of being a "top contender," the Martinsville, VA mainstay recently took home the top prize in the 2026 Best of the Blue Ridge Awards. In this episode, Jrod sits down with Executive Producer Johnny Buck for an inside look at the 16th annual festival (May 21–24, 2026). They discuss the festival's moving origin story, its commitment to the Martinsville community, and the challenge of keeping independent festivals accessible in an era of skyrocketing production costs and "stadium displacement." Whether you're a long-time "Rooster" or a first-timer, this preview explores why this festival—built on the legacy of childhood friends Edwin and Walker—continues to be a home for artists like Maggie Rose, Paul McDonald, and Moon Taxi. In this episode, we cover: The Victory Lap: What the "Best Music Festival" win means for the festival's 16th year. Festival Value vs. Stadium Shows: Why communal experiences are winning out over $500 stadium seats. The 2026 Lineup: Insights into headliners St. Paul & The Broken Bones, moe., and Daniel Donato, plus favorites like Shadowgrass and our friends Maggie Rose and Paul McDonald. Pinch-Me Moments: Memories of Billy Strings, Marcus King, and Emmylou Harris. Legacy & Scholarship: How the festival continues to give back through the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship Fund. Surprise, Klein is back! He explained why he spent all day at the hospital yesterday and why he's already arguing with his wife over an extended sex drought. It led to plenty of calls about extreme circumstances where people still had sex (including having sex with a broken penis). We also brought back The Dank Tank where we heard people's best 'high-deas' including a man who pitched 'bacon to-go." There was also a heated discussion about the best meal to eat-out for (Klein says breakfast. Agree?). We heard a new argument in Petty Claims court where a couple was fighting over who controls the lights in their home, and we closed out the show with an AMA with a surgical nurse. Are the surgeons who work on holidays less qualified? This burning question & many more were answered. Plus, has Jake already lost Forced Resolutions? Listen & weigh in.
Kevin Brennan is living the dream. Sure, his Patreon numbers are down, but he’s not going to let that bother him. As a matter of fact, he’s playing a joke on all of us because he’s making up the money elsewhere. Don’t worry about him. He’s doing fine. You’re all just Melton trolls, anyway. Keanu Thompson may be growing tired of her husband as he inches towards sixty years old, constantly gets drunk on stream and embarrasses himself, and can’t stop repeating his broken-brain chants about a flu and dragging her in to his fights. Is the honeymoon over?
