What happens when you walk away from everything and find your own path to motherhood? In this episode, we hear from Julia, a Montana mother of two who walked away from the corporate grind, sold her home, and set out on a radically different path to motherhood, one rooted in sovereignty, sisterhood, and self-trust.Julia shares how her first wild pregnancy unfolded while traveling the West Coast in a trailer, living off-grid in national forests, and finding community through The Lighthouse membership. With a deeply ingrained medical upbringing, Julia had to unravel layers of programming to reclaim birth on her terms. She tells the raw and beautiful stories of birthing her babies on raw land in the Montana winter, catching her first baby unexpectedly with bath towels and a shoelace, and welcoming her second in a fast, intuitive birth in the same off-grid trailer. From navigating boundaries with family to tandem nursing and raising her children outside the system, Julia's story is a powerful testament to the courage it takes to live differently. What You'll Hear:How a divorce became the catalyst for questioning everything she thought she knewWhy she sold everything and set out on the road with their RVA story of freedom that comes from leaving behind medical management and social expectationsWhy her first freebirth became the most magical experience of her lifeHow living in the Natural Forest system rewired her mind and reawakened her intuitionThe lessons from two very different freebirthsHer advice for anyone considering stepping away from responsibilities during their first pregnancyTimestamps:[00:00] Introduction[00:51] From medical conditioning to embracing freebirth and body autonomy[10:31] Leaving corporate life behind to travel in an RV and begin a wild pregnancy on the road[30:23] First freebirth story in a winterized RV with unexpected postpartum challenges[45:57] Second freebirth story with a toddler sleeping nearby and a smooth postpartum experience[01:01:10] Postpartum recovery challenges, household dynamics, and lessons for next timeYou can connect with Julia on her homestead Instagram page here.Find more from Emilee on Instagram, YouTube and the Free Birth Society website.Disclaimer: Free Birth Society, LLC of North Carolina shares personal and educational stories and experiences related to freebirth and holistic care. Episode 75 is shared by L. A first time mum living on the land of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong Peoples. She shares her pregnancy story and how her frequent engagement with the hospital system due to her debilitating hyperemesis gravidarum influenced her decisions around what model of care she wanted and hoped for. Ultimately, despite back and forth and advocating for the same, L was unable to access midwifery continuity of care or a homebirth through the publicly funded model. She then made the decision to birth unassisted with the support of her partner. I met L in the later part of the third trimester as she was navigating this decision and was shocked by some of the experiences L had especially considering how her pregnancy had already significantly impacted her mental health and wellbeing.  Resources: Hyperemesis Gravidarum Birth of the Placenta (Ep from Great Birth Rebellion) Support the showReach out: www.birthingathome.com.au @birthingathome_apodcast@elsie.ruijgrok (EMDR info) birthingathome.apodcast@gmail.com

Today I pull back the curtain on an often-overlooked aspect of fertility: your partner's sperm health. In this episode, I dive into how sperm quality can profoundly influence placental development, affect the risk of miscarriage, and shape your baby's long-term health. You'll also discover why hearing “everything is normal” from your doctor isn't always the final word and why traditional labs miss the subtle, yet important, nuances hidden beneath the surface, especially in men who appear healthy and do all the right things.   Episode Highlights: Nora is back from her summer break and shares what's new — including an exciting return of one of her fertility coaching offers. Why men's sperm quality and quantity are declining, and what does it mean for fertility? Nora digs into the surprising factors most people overlook. Sperm does more than deliver DNA, discover its hidden role in shaping early pregnancy from the very start including the placenta Could poor sperm health be quietly contributing to miscarriage risk? Nora unpacks the science you may not have heard. Practical steps you can take right now: how advanced testing and a deeper look at “optimal health” (not just normal ranges) may transform fertility outcomes. Ep. 377: The Myth of the Aging Placenta with Sophie Messager, Phd  Have you ever been told your placenta might be “too old”? Maybe you've heard that once you hit 35 or if you've conceived through IVF, your placenta just can't keep up. This so-called “aging placenta” idea gets tossed around a lot, but here's the truth: it's a myth. In this episode of The Birth Lounge Podcast, I'm joined by the incredible Dr. Sophie Messager, a former reproductive psychologist and current doula, to set the record straight. Together, we dive into: The history of the “aging placenta” myth and how it gained traction What science really says about how the placenta changes in late pregnancy Why these misconceptions can strip away maternal autonomy and fuel unnecessary interventions The role of intuition when navigating medical recommendations How systemic bias and racial disparities play into maternity care And drumming… yes, you read that right: how drumming can become a powerful, grounding tool during pregnancy This conversation will give you the knowledge (and confidence) to challenge outdated beliefs and trust that your body isn't broken. It''s brilliant.

What Does Having Low AMH Levels Mean? Having low AMH levels can indicate that your ovaries are producing less of the preantral follicles. This is important as the fewer the number of follicles there are means there are less that can be stimulated for assisted contraception. Today's guest suffered from endometriosis for 21 years before being properly diagnosed. Sandra Elidor also found out she had low AMH at age 30.  With Endo she had two surgeries, 1 fallopian tube, 1 successful IVF cycle, and 1 miscarriage. Sandra gave birth to her son at 29 weeks after weeks of bed rest due to placenta previa.  During her 2nd IVF treatment, she found out she was no longer a candidate for IVF due to her low AMH levels.  After which she suffered a miscarriage.   In today's episode Sandra takes us on her journey to parenting, how she started her non-profit Filling Empty Wombs on Clubhouse, and supporting other families on this infertility and loss journey. Send us a textIn this episode of At The Bench, Drs. Misty Good and Betsy Crouch speak with Dr. Stephanie Gaw, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at UCSF, about her path to becoming a physician-scientist and her translational research on placental infections. Dr. Gaw shares how early lab experiences, time in the Peace Corps, and a pivot from infectious disease to OB-GYN shaped her focus on maternal immunity and global health. The conversation covers Dr. Gaw's work on sepsis in pregnancy, COVID-19 and RSV vaccine responses, and congenital infections like syphilis. She also discusses her approach to building and managing a large placental biorepository, and the importance of thoughtful sample collection for reliable research outcomes. The episode includes practical insights on balancing clinical duties with research, the benefits of peer mentorship, and how clinical observations can drive lab-based investigation. This discussion offers a clear look into the realities and rewards of bridging bedside observations with bench research in maternal-fetal medicine. In a way, it's a struggle, almost like a tiny war.
