What can I say about Lloyd Kaufman? Director. Writer. Producer. Indie Filmmaker. Innovator. Nice guy. Pain in the ass of main stream media. I believe all of those statements are true and then some. Lloyd Kaufman is one the original indie filmmakers going back to the 1970's. The Troma Universe was born in 1974 with a series of highly original, raunchy comedies such as Squeeze Play!, Stuck On You!, Waitress!, and other film titles ending with an exclamation point. In my favorite decade, the 80's, is where Lloyd Kaufman really made a name for himself. His 1984 sleeper hit The Toxic Avenger launched his career and his production company Troma Entertainment. Creating his own brand of independent films, Lloyd Kaufman discovered there was a market for his "unique type" of films. The success of The Toxic Avenger was followed by a string of commercial and artistic triumphs in a similar vein, blending fantasy, comedy, bad ass action, and a bit of eroticism in a style that can only be described as “Tromatic”.To say this was an enjoyable and entertaining interview would be an understatement. Enjoy my conversation with the one and only Lloyd Kaufman.

It's a subhumanoid meltdown! This week, Peaches and Michael rally for “reel” independence as they celebrate Troma Entertainment, the legendary studio that has built a bonafide cult thanks to decades of subversive cinema. In addition to discussing such Tromatic films as THE TOXIC AVENGER and CLASS OF NUKE ‘EM HIGH, our hosts explore the notion of what it means to curate a film landscape that constantly bucks the mainstream. Joining the discussion is the legendary co-founder of Troma himself, Lloyd Kaufman, who shares a bit of his history going against the grain. Then, genre icon Tiffany Shepis stops by to discuss her TROMEO beginnings and what lessons from those punk rock cinema days she still carries with her. From Toxie to filmmaking moxy, this episode has it all! Go!
I've been wanting to do a podcast for a while now, and here it is, EPISODE 1! I have a few episodes in the can so I have a little backlog for y'all. However, I'm not going to be releasing them in order because I figured let's start big. Through the help of my friend Joe Randazzo I was able to be put in touch with Lloyd Kaufman co-founder of Troma Entertainment and co-creator of New Jersey's first superhero 'The Toxic Avenger'! I've been watching Troma for years. I've lost count of how many I've seen at this point. We do a little talking about sweet corn, Toxie, anime, media consolidation, our families, and of course Uncle Lloydie's latest Tromatic experience #ShakespeareShitstorm! It soon will have its world premiere at Fantasia Film Festival on August 29th! If you're interested in more Troma, you should go check out their streaming service TromaNOW! It's 4.99 a month and you get the fist month entirely free. All the money goes to keeping one of the oldest independent film studios alive and allows for more art to be made. http://watch.troma.com/ I promise you, it's worth your time. Even if you're not a fan of the movies, the documentaries and behind the scenes videos are invaluable to any creative. Get your stuff made and seen by people!Anyway, I hope you enjoy the first episode. I've got a lot more coming on down the line. The plan for now is to have it up every two weeks around Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. See you in a couple weeks!Your Horror Tran, Alice Collins

We sit and have a hilarious conversation with American Producer/Director and Pioneer of Independant Film, Lloyd Kaufman
Filmtrepreneur™ - The Entrepreneurial Filmmaking Podcast with Alex Ferrari

I believe all of those statements are true and then some.Lloyd Kaufman is one of the original indie filmmakers going back to the 1970s. Creating his own brand of independent films, Lloyd Kaufman discovered there was a market for his "unique type" of films. The success of The Toxic Avenger was followed by a string of commercial and artistic triumphs in a similar vein, blending fantasy, comedy, badass action, and a bit of eroticism in a style that can only be described as “Tromatic”.These films, including the Class of Nuke ‘Em High trilogy, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD and Troma’s War were often ignored or scorned by the intelligentsia of the time but spoke to an entire generation (including yours truly) of young people who rejected the pandering, commercial films of the mid-to-late ’80s. Some of his fans include Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Mike Judge, Peter Jackson, and Trey Parker.Always one to help indie filmmakers, Lloyd Kaufman just wrote his most recent book Sell Your Own Damn Movie!, the latest installment of his acclaimed series of books on guerrilla filmmaking that includes Make Your Own Damn Movie: Secrets of a Renegade Director, Direct Your Own Damn Movie! and Produce Your Own Damn Movie! The books have inspired Kaufman to teach a successful series of Master Classes at colleges and institutions across the country and the world! To say this was an enjoyable and entertaining interview would be an understatement. Enjoy my conversation with the one and only Lloyd Kaufman.
The Spill-ogy of Troma Entertainment's Class of Nuke 'Em High Series concludes, but not in anyway we saw coming. As we sit down with Director and President of Troma Entertainment Lloyd Kaufman, we try to dish the dirt on his newest film Return to Return to Nuke 'Em High Aka Vol. 2 (2017) starring Asta Paredes, Catherine Corcoran, and Vito Trigo. What wound up happening instead became an absolitely wonderful TROMATIC experience as Lloyd does what he does best, put on one hell of a show and directed Jonathan and Jarrett into a completely unique interview that is just as entertaining, full of fun and laughs, and independantly off the rails and reels as Troma's 40 years of history! No Volume 2 Spoilers Allowed so This is NOT your normal Bombs show, and we couldn't be happier for the way it turned out. We hope you all enjoy this truly special look into the life and career of the man who has touched so many in the movie business and independent creators alike, (and not in the Weinstein way)! Following on the success of Troma's Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High, Troma's War saw the independent studio taking on the action-adventure genre in their own way. Surprisingly well-reviewed, the movie doesn't quite have the following of the studio's tentpole franchises, but it's definitely an entertaining and inventive Tromatic view of the guns and glory films which were everywhere in the latter half of the '80s. TROMA’S WAR tells the story of a group of marooned citizens who stumble upon a terrorist plot to take over the United States. With no help in sight and no way to contact reinforcements, it’s up to these ordinary people to save the world! Musician Chris DeMarco performed the music for the film, as well as appearing in it. His score -- along with the power ballads "Alive" and "Storm Is Rising" -- was a major part of how well Troma's War works. Sadly, it was never legally available in any form, failing even to make an appearance on Troma's 20th anniversary compilation, Toxic Tunes From Tromaville. Featuring the complete motion picture score including cuts not used in the final film, Troma's War was released on 140-gram red and orange “Triumphant Explosion” colored vinyl back in July of last year. Limited to 1000 copies worldwide, the LP was put out by New York's Ship to Shore PhonoCo, in collaboration with Locked Groove Recording Company. We spoke with Chris DeMarco last year about his work on Troma's War, as well as what he's up to now.

And time for some more Tromatic goodness by way of the Class of Nuke Em High series!
