We had the pleasure of talking with Morley Nelson, a filmmaker who has directed an incredible film titled “Uncontained.” This cinematic narrative follows a set of individuals who must unite to confront a life-threatening outbreak. “Uncontained” is a profound and visually stunning narrative that delves into the very essence of humanity. During our interview, we explored the intricate filmmaking process, delving into the behind-the-scenes aspects of the production. After a month-long hiatus — and just before we take another — Jacob, Sage, and Tate are back at it with a review of the 1975 classic Dog Day Afternoon, starring Al Pacino and John Cazale. This gripping, unconventional heist film sparks a wide-ranging conversation about the real-life events that inspired it, including the Attica Prison Riots and the Life magazine article that formed the basis for the script. We dive into Pacino's powerhouse performance, the film's bold storytelling choices, and why Dog Day Afternoon still resonates nearly 50 years later. This movie was directed by Sydney Lumet.GD4AM: 85/100IMDb: 8.0/10Metacritic: 86/100Letterboxd: 4.3/5RT: 96%Three amateur robbers plan to hold up a Brooklyn bank. A nice, simple robbery: Walk in, take the money, and run. Unfortunately, the supposedly uncomplicated heist suddenly becomes a bizarre nightmare as everything that could go wrong does. This movie is currently available for rent on most VOD platforms.

Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke - The Spirit See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Unless you've been completely offline, you've witnessed the undeniable shift from a centralized, studio-led media industry to the booming creator economy. While some of us recognized this trend early on, the transition is now in full swing, demanding that both corporations and creative talent adapt quickly. If talent communities don't evolve alongside corporate initiatives, the creator economy risks falling short of its potential. SkillSharp The Podcast dives into this critical collaboration needed for successful evolution. This week, we welcome David Bracken, a serial entrepreneur with a track record of launching successful marketing, new products, and tech start-ups. David will unpack the growing power of creators and share actionable best practices for brands to forge collaborative intersections that lead to collective wins.Support the showFor more sharp content, visit Skill-Sharp.com - Like & Subscribe. Today on the show we have Slamdance Grand Jury winning filmmaker Hasan Oswald. Hasan's story is pretty inspiring. He did exactly what I preach all the time, he picked up a camera and began to tell his story. He made his first short film that was later tweeted by Stephen Fry, and the National Geographic came calling to work on their film Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS. He has since covered the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, drug trafficking, and homelessness in Philadelphia. He quickly established a unique ability to capture the human experience through "cinema verité." His unfettered access to and intimacy with his characters creates a seamless veneer between the filmmaker and subject. After getting much need experience in the field he decided it was time to tell larger stories. His first outing as a feature film director, Higher Love, won him the top award at the Slamdance Film Festival. To finance his film he pulled a page out of Robert Rodriguez's playbook and sold his blood plasma to finance his film.Hasan's filmmaking journey is inspiring to say the least. He is using cinema to tell stories that will hopefully change the way people think. Higher Love is available on all major VOD platforms. His current project focuses on the Yazidi Genocide in Iraq.Enjoy my conversation with Hasan Oswald.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

Summer's here -- at least at the movie theater -- so we've got a jam-packed episode of Breakfast All Day for you. We begin with the movie that's kicking off blockbuster season: "Thunderbolts*," with an asterisk. It's the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the best one in a long time. We really enjoyed this. In theaters. Next up is "Another Simple Favor," the sequel to the 2018 comic thriller "A Simple Favor." Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick reunite, and while there's not much spark left, the clothes are still spectacular. Streaming on Prime Video. Then, we honor the beautiful work of the late Halyna Hutchins with a review of "Rust." The cinematographer died in an accidental shooting during production on the Western. Now that the film is out -- and that proceeds are going to Hutchins' family -- we wanted to watch and discuss it. In theaters and on VOD. Finally, we catch up with "Havoc," which has been the No. 1 movie on Netflix for some reason. Tom Hardy plays a detective in a drug war between the city's corrupt mayor and its corrupt police department. From the director of "The Raid" movies. Streaming now. Plus, we did a Movie News LIVE! for the last time before Christy's lumpectomy on Monday. We're not sure what May is going to look like, but we wanted to make sure and say hi to our folks one more time. Among the topics we discussed were Jeremy Renner, "Sgt. Rock," John Mulaney's Netflix show and more. We'll keep you posted on our plans through Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter. Some pretty solid independent horror films are always the surprises each year. A small budget horror film from Connecticut, USA, just arrived entitled CANDLEWOOD, based off local legends. From IMDB: A mixed family moves from the city to a remote village, buying a house unseen. Unwelcoming locals and a real urban legend threaten their new life as they confront the property's dark history.Your podcast hosts were able to interview the director, Mike Furhman, along with Kristi Schoonover who had a small part in the film. After its limited theatrical release, it is now available on VOD everywhere.
#CageClub returns with the first of two new episodes releasing in short order! First up is Gunslingers, which hit VOD (and some theaters) two weeks ago. (Coming up soon: The Surfer!) Gunslingers is yet another Western film in his recent filmography, prompting us to reflect on Nicolas Cage's VOD filmography. Is the juice worth the frequent squeeze? We try to break down the amount of bullets, shootouts, CGI blood, and dudes in all places; whether it was an "actual" Rockefeller who was killed in the film's inciting incident; and what ever happened to that poor horse. We admire Cage's look -- including his cross-shaped glasses and his raspy voice -- and talk about how this sort of feels like a Twilight Zone episode. Mike reveals who the bartender is. We talk about the reality behind the paternity twist at the end and share our confusion and disbelief at the film's credits scene.

It's time to get back in the Cage! Nicolas Cage recently starred in the VOD western GUNSLINGERS, also starring Stephen Dorff, Heather Graham, and Officer Mark Hoffman from SAW III, SAW IV, SAW V, SAW VI, SAW 3D, and SAW X. Mike and Mike will spend the episode debating the question: is this among the worst Nicolas Cage VOD releases?

Cruise the maps to follow the rushing floodwaters from Lake Bonneville, covering 20,000 square miles of ancient Utah, through the narrow channels on the way to the broad Snake River Plain where the wave joined the route of the Snake River and carved a mighty variety of impressively sculpted and ravaged landscapes. Randall's monthly newsletter for April reviewed a new paper about Ice Age Floods down the Fraser River in British Columbia, and also new LiDAR imaging at Chaco Canyon showing more aligned roadways were part of their complex system of sacred geography. Then as a scale invariant modern local example, RC presents an abridged version of his extensive essay on the failure of the last monumental dam to be built in America, on the Teton River, that burst through a month before the country's bicentennial celebrations in 1976. Before addressing the news of the day, Will & Kath catch up with Felix on their re-watch of beloved series BANSHEE, which segues nicely into discussion of the baffling firebombing of the Pennsylvania governor's mansion. We then move on to the increasingly horrific and blatantly illegal renditions of American residents into foreign prisons, and the further construction of Fortress America. We also look at potential democratic responses, from Cory Booker's filibuster, to Kamala slowly stepping back into the spotlight, and finally Bernie & AOC's recent rally in LA.
