TW: this episode discusses themes of racism, transphobia and murder. Leticia King was only 15 when she was shot and killed by fellow classmate Branden McInerney. Were there any warning signs? What could have been done to protect Leticia? What role did racism and transphobia play in this case? Is this an isolated incident? Does this happen in the UK? How was this not classed as a hate crime? This is what will be discussed on this episode of Hysterical Woman. In this episode, Em and Caz turn their attention to a particularly bloody narrative - Judges 19-21 - which depicts gang rape, murder, dismemberment, and sex trafficking. By making connections with some contemporary cases of violent crime, they shine a light on the ways that toxic masculinity and patriarchy shape the horrific gender violence that's portrayed in this biblical story. In this weeks episode we highlight the tragic yet bizarre fate of  World War II veteran Joseph Junior Mulvaney. The murky circumstances of his murder almost 6 decades ago are interesting enough, and how his remains were discovered 3 decades later is equally fascinating, too. What could top them is how his remains were finally identified 54 years after he went missing. This is the detailed account of Joseph Mulvaney's case known as “the skeleton in the trunk.”

Veteran journalist Joe Nocera's neighbor in the Hamptons was a therapist named Ike. Ike counted celebrities and Manhattan elites as his patients. He'd host star-studded parties at his eccentric vacation house. But one summer, Joe discovered that Ike was gone and everything he'd thought he'd known about his neighbor -- and the house next door -- was wrong. From Wondery, the company behind Dirty John and Dr. Death, and Bloomberg, “The Shrink Next Door” is a story about power, control and turning to the wrong person for help for three decades. Written and hosted by Joe Nocera, a columnist for Bloomberg. The Shrink Next Door is now an Apple Original series, starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. Watch now only on Apple TV+. Sometimes, you're in your home. The doors are locked. You're careful about who you let in... and yet tragedy finds you anyway. A huge and grateful shout-out to Dick from the True Crime Brewery podcast for his patience and feedback about this case. Promos from the Mens Rea and Asian Madness podcasts... thanks for trusting me with your voices! This episode derived significant information from the 2003 book "Judgment Ridge," by Mitchell Zuckoff and Dick Lehr. I might have reached different conclusions about the boys, but I fully admire the depth of their research and thought. Dumb Nerds: Comedians Talking About Smart Topics They're Too Dumb For

Today we have the lovely and hilarious Cara Meyers on to talk about the not-so-lovely and not-so-funny Dark Web! Cara and Cassi are deeply curious about the Dark Net but have yet to venture on to it. The Dark Web is a surprisingly large place online that people can ensure anonymity. That doesn’t stop them from talking about how to get on it through sites like Freenet, I2P and Tor. They also get into what goes on the Dark Web like buying drugs, illegal pornography, hiring hitmen, anonymously crowdfunding assassinations, acquiring and spending bitcoins, getting malware, gambling and finding out deep, dark secrets. They even talk about one of the infamous Dark Web leaders, Ross Ulbricht, also known as Dread Pirate Roberts, and how he revolutionized the dark web by being a Darknet market operator with his dark web business, “The Silk Road”. He had a net worth of $28.5 million before he was caught by the FBI and is now spending the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. Is the punishment too harsh? Carrie and Cassi think so. They also get off topic and talk about anarchy and their gripes with money, their deep twisted love for true crime (shout out to Sword and Scale, True Crime Brewery and My Favorite Murder), comedy and why everyone, including the US government, should go to therapy.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
