Roseman, MPH, CDCES, RDN, Know Diabetes By Heart's Karen Dawson and Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDCES. In 1985, Barbra Streisand returned to her roots with the release of her twenty-fourth album, The Broadway Album. Having decided that Broadway musicals were no longer in the same league as some of the more commercial music dominating the charts in the early ‘70s, Streisand ended up taking an unforeseen fifteen-year break from Broadway and show tunes. This return to her “roots” was a shock to many, worrisome for some, but ultimately a massive success, both critically and commercially. It's almost time to raise the curtains again in New York City when Broadway returns in September 2021. Throughout the podcast, we will be featuring music from Barbra Streisand's The Broadway Album courtesy of SONY Music. We're celebrating National Diabetes Awareness Month with musical inspiration from Angela Bofill. With her strong, distinctive alto, Angela Bofill carved a niche as an outstanding interpreter of soul ballads and became a mainstay on the Quiet Storm radio format. Angela Bofill suffered two strokes but neither stroke could take away her positive, humorous personality and her fighter spirit. This National Diabetes Month campaign has been going on for much longer than many realize; it was established over four decades ago in 1975. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes. The campaign aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes. Podcast guests: Angela Bofill, Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDE, San Francisco & Palm Springs drag performer Mutha Chucka, and Evetta Petty from Harlem's Heaven Hats. Throughout the podcast we will feature music from The Essential Angela Bofill album courtesy of SONY Music.
We’re talking about diabetes hot topics on Diabetes Late Nite with music from today's biggest superstars courtesy of SONY Music. This month, we're spotlighting music from Destiny's Child. It's the 20th Anniversary of their second studio album, The Writing's on the Wall. Before Beyoncé was Beyoncé, there was Destiny’s Child, the Houston-born R&B quartet that gave us the 411 on dealing with the opposite sex romantically. The Writing's on the Wall features mega-hits like “Say My Name,” “Bills, Bills, Bills,” and “Jumpin', Jumpin'.” Essence magazine referred to the album as a masterpiece of Black femininity, women empowerment, and honestly just a banger that still gives us nostalgic feels. Diabetes Late Nite is a fast-paced, full-filled hour of diabetes education and wellness advice that encourages listeners to “laugh a little, learn a lot’.
Join us for Divabetic's 9th Year Anniversary Diabetes Late Nite Podcasting Celebration with musical inspiration from P!nk. P!nk's new album, Hurts 2B Human features the singer teaming up with Chris Stapleton, Khalid and more on her passionately confessional eighth LP. Pink sings “I abhor reality” on the sugary dance song “Can We Pretend” featuring Cash Cash. But when she digs into what’s getting her down, it’s the most brazen and heartbroken she’s ever sounded. On the Sia-cowritten “Courage,” Pink’s voice swings up the scale on its own chandelier. “I don’t have to do this perfectly,” she sings. “Happy” (co-written by Teddy Geiger and Sasha Sloan) reminds us she is also the patron saint of the Missundaztood: “Can somebody find me a pill to make me unafraid of me/ Maybe I’m just scared to be happy,” she sings. Guests include Beyond Type 2's T'ara Smith, Catherine Lawrence , Dr. Sara (Mandy) Reece PHARMD, CDE, BC-ADM, BCACP, FAADE, Poet Lorraine Brooks, Glamazon Beauty owner Kim Baker, and the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach. Hosted by the happiest health care "MC," Max “Mr. Divabetic” Szadek.
Tonight we’re celebrating the music legacy of Luther Vandross and raising awareness for diabetes health-related complications (such as stroke) on this podcast. In the years since Luther’s passing, one constant has remained to define his life and musical success: the voice. Like any great singer of the past 100 years, Luther Vandross’ voice and distinct singing style led to not only monumental success, but an instant recognition when you hear him singing–through your stereo, car radio, on TV or in a movie. Coupled with that voice was Luther’s unique ability to write and sing about love and the shared emotions we all feel in that search for and enjoyment of love. Through his songs, for the last two generations Luther Vandross became a staple in the most joyous moments of people’s lives. Guests include Fonzi Thornton, Keith Anthony Fluitt, Diabetes Advocate Dan Houdeshell, Luther Vandross Historian Leon Petrossian, Zhacary Smith, and the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach. Throughout the podcast we will be playing music from Luther Vandross’s “Forever, For Always, For Love” album courtesy of SONY Music.
We’re talking about coping with diabetes, depression and feelings of shame during the holidays on December’s Diabetes Late Nite with musical inspiration from Leona Lewis. ‘Tis the season for family, festivity, and temptations that may disrupt daily diabetes health routines. That means it's also the season when eating healthy, staying active, and taking medication on schedule is harder to do. The added stress and anxiety of staying on track with your diabetes health may cause even those who are usually content to experience loneliness, anxiety and a lack of fulfillment. Studies show that people with diabetes have a greater risk of depression than people without diabetes. Just like denial, depression can get you into a vicious cycle. It can block good diabetes self-care. “I have a best friend who has severe depression, who takes medication and still struggles, so I know how bad it can be,” says Leona Lewis. She describes herself as having “highs and lows” brought on by circumstance, not a clinical illness. In retrospect, frustrated and anxious might have been better terms to use, but she declines to dwell on it. If you are feeling symptoms of depression, don't keep them to yourself. First, talk them over with your doctor. Guests include Diabetes Alert Dog expert, Debby Kay CDT, CDTA, PDTI, Megrette Fletcher, MEd, RD, CDE, the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach, Janis Roszler RD, CDE, LDN, Emmy winning Producer, Linda Bracero Morel, Poet Lorraine Brooks and Mama Rose Marie. Plus, we’re giving away 6 months access to mySugr Pro in our INSTANT WINNER challenge. Throughout the podcast we will be featuring music from Leona Lewis’ “Christmas, with Love” album courtesy of SONY Music.
