In this podcast, we are joined by Dr Alex Crichton, researcher at the Trisha Roy Vascular laboratory at Houston Methodist Hospital, Texas, to discuss how QISS MRA can be used to image tibial vessels that are often missed by more conventional forms of imaging such as CT angiography, ultrasound duplex imaging or digital subtraction angiography. Diabetic patients can be especially challenging in selecting target vessels for treatment because of the presence of calcium in the vessel wall and the distal nature of the disease. Furthermore, many of these patients have impaired renal function where the use of contrast media can be detrimental. In this episode, Dr Crichton explains the work being done with QISS MRA to enable visualisation of these so called “hibernating vessels” and also how it can be used to characterise plaque morphology and the suitability for endovascular intervention.

Send us Fan MailNoise is everywhere, but peace is not. We follow the life of Saint Raphael Arnaez Baron, a young Spaniard who seems to have everything wealth, talent, friends, and a bright future yet feels a deeper pull that comfort cannot quiet. His answer is startling: he walks away from the world to seek God in the Trappist silence of San Isidro de Dueñas, where prayer, hidden work, and Eucharistic adoration reshape what “success” even means. We talk through the foundations that form him: a Catholic home marked by daily Mass, family Rosaries, and a simple love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Eucharist. Then we trace the hard edge of his story, severe diabetes that repeatedly forces him out of the monastery and into painful limitations. Rather than letting illness become bitterness, Raphael turns it into offering, teaching a practical spirituality of surrender, divine providence, and small daily yeses that anyone can live whether you are raising kids, caring for a sick parent, or just trying to pray in a distracted age. You will also hear why Raphael is often called a saint for restless souls: his “silence” is not empty, but full of presence, especially before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. His childlike trust in Mary, his devotion to the Rosary, and his ability to find God in ordinary chores point to a path of holiness that fits real life. If you want Catholic encouragement for chronic illness, spiritual discipline, Eucharistic devotion, and Marian spirituality, this story lands close to home. Subscribe for more lives of the saints, share this with someone who needs quiet hope, and leave a review with the word “silence” plus one practice that helps you make space for God.Open by Steve Bailey Support the showChat with US 24/7 Ask us anything https://chatting.page/mjxs9aerrtgm3lmpndlcepmbyosntrjnDownload Journeys of Faith App for Iphone or Android FREE https://journeysoffaith.com/pages/download-our-appJourneys of Faith brings your Super Saints PodcastsPlease consider subscribing to this podcast or making a donation to Journeys of Faith Help us Grow! Why you should shop here at Journeys of Faith official site!New Mega Search Engine!Lowest Prices and Higher discounts up to 50%Free Shipping starts at $18 - Express Safe Checkout Click HereCannot find it let us find or create it - - Click HereRewards Program is active - click Here

Part 2 of Eoin's chat with Harriet Jaxxon (@harrietjaxxon).Many of you will know her from international stages, from Boiler Room sets to shows in New York and across Europe. She is building a serious name for herself in the global DJ scene. What a lot of people do not know is that she has been living with Type 1 diabetes since she was 17, diagnosed completely out of the blue. She is very honest about it. It was not some inspirational turning point. It was disruptive. Life altering. In her words, a complete “vibe kill”. And even now, while it is more manageable, it is still something she carries every single day. What stands out to me is how she has integrated that reality into her life. The resilience. The discipline. The mental toughness that comes with managing a chronic condition daily. Those traits have shaped not only her character, but her success. This conversation is real, grounded, and powerful.See and hear more from Harriet:Boiler Room set hereLinks to music hereInstagram hereAs always, be sure to rate, comment, subscribe and share. She's also a trained dietitian, a diabetes leader, and passionate advocate, committed to making life easier for others living with the condition. This is a conversation about resilience, high performance, and what it really takes to thrive with Type 1 Diabetes at the elite level of sport.See and hear more from Melanie here:https://www.lifesportdiabetes.co.uk/As always, be sure to rate, comment, subscribe and share. Today's episode is a little bit different, because Eoin talks about something that's actually made day-to-day life with Type 1 Diabetes that bit easier, food tracking. If you live with Type 1, you already know that carb counting and logging food can feel overwhelming, tedious, or just another mental load on top of everything else. Eoin has tried plenty of apps over the years, and honestly, most of them either felt too complicated or just didn't fit real life.Recently, he started using a food tracking app called Vida Health, and wanted to share his experience with it; what he likes, what's been genuinely helpful, and how it's made carb counting feel simpler as a whole. This isn't about perfection or tracking every bite forever. It's about having a tool that actually supports you, especially when managing blood sugars day to day.So if you've ever struggled with food tracking, felt burnt out by carb counting, or just want something that feels more intuitive, this episode is for you.As always, be sure to rate, comment, subscribe and share. Part 2 of Eoin's chat with Stephen Yarbrough. Stephen was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 70 (in 2025) after undergoing immunotherapy treatment for melanoma. In an extremely rare outcome, the treatment that helped fight his cancer also triggered an autoimmune reaction that destroyed his pancreas' ability to produce insulin. Only a fraction of patients ever experience this, yet Stephen's journey shows how Type 1 diabetes can appear in unexpected ways and at any stage of life.Over the past 10 months, Stephen has learned to navigate glucose monitoring, insulin therapy and an entirely new type of daily routine.Shortly after his diagnosis, Stephen faced the heartbreaking loss of his wife of thirty-two years following her sudden pancreatic cancer diagnosis. His willingness to speak openly about grief, resilience and the lessons he has gained along the way offers a powerful perspective that will absolutely resonate with you.Today Stephen joins us to share his path through illness, adjustment and recovering, and his appreciation for life's blessings. As always, be sure to rate, comment, subscribe and share. Do you live with type 1 diabetes and finding that menopause is different for you? Or do you just want to learn more about the differences of type 1 and type 2? Then this episode is for you. Today's guest, Melissa Slemp, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was only 14 years old back in 1982, when managing the condition looked very different. After decades of navigating blood sugar highs and lows, and then later entering perimenopause, Melissa began noticing massive shifts in how her hormones affected her insulin needs, energy, and mood. Now, she's on a mission to change the conversation for women like her who are trying to manage both diabetes and menopause. We cover: Melissa's type 1 diabetes diagnosis story and what management looked like in the early 80s The key differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes Why menopause can totally wreak havoc on blood sugar regulation How hormonal fluctuations impact insulin needs and energy levels…and diabetics can witness this with their own eyes, just looking at their data and insulin needs. We talked about the role of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy in improving glucose control and how it's different for those with type 1 Melissa Slemp is a functional health coach, host of the podcast Type 1 in Midlife, and advocate for women with type 1 diabetes navigating the complexities of hormonal change.
