Regular energy drink use pushes your heart and blood vessels into a constant stress state that medications and fitness can't override while stimulants remain in your system Severe blood pressure spikes and dangerous heart rhythm events have occurred in people drinking energy drinks who appeared healthy and had no prior heart disease Energy drinks stack caffeine with other stimulants and added sugar, creating a combined strain that overwhelms normal cardiovascular control mechanisms Low cellular energy drives the urge to rely on stimulants, but energy drinks mask the problem rather than restoring real energy production Removing energy drinks and rebuilding cellular energy through food, movement, and daily structure helps your heart regain stability and lowers real cardiovascular risk

What if eating the right vegetables could make exercise feel easier while simultaneously lowering your blood pressure? In this episode of The Exam Room Podcast, host Chuck Carroll is joined by metabolic health expert Cyrus Khambatta of Evolution Health to break down the science behind nitrate-rich vegetables and how they dramatically improve blood flow, oxygen delivery, endurance, and recovery. You'll learn how nitrates convert into nitric oxide, why foods like beets, arugula, spinach, and celery outperform supplements, and how simple dietary changes can enhance athletic performance — even if you're not an athlete. We also clear up confusion about nitrates in processed meats, explain why mouthwash can block benefits, and reveal the ideal timing and amounts for maximum results. In this episode, you'll discover: • How nitrates lower blood pressure naturally • Why nitric oxide improves endurance & oxygen efficiency • The best nitrate-rich vegetables to eat daily • How nitrates support mitochondria & cellular energy • When and how much to eat for exercise performance • Why nitrates from vegetables ≠ nitrates from deli meats
High blood pressure isn’t a disease—it’s a signal. In this episode of The Ask Dr. Ernst Show, Dr. Ernst explains why the 120/80 standard is misleading, why blood pressure rises in response to internal stress and resistance, and shares the four most effective ways to lower blood pressure at home naturally. You’ll learn how fasting rapidly reduces pressure, how nitric oxide restores healthy blood vessel function, why magnesium is essential for vascular relaxation, and how kidney stress silently drives hypertension—all from a root-cause, functional perspective designed to restore true heart health.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode, Chris responds to a listener's thoughtful question: “Do we really need to check blood pressure on every adult patient?” What starts as a question about workflow becomes a much bigger conversation about how optometrists spend their time, what really changes patient outcomes, and how to break the habit of checking boxes just for compliance. We unpack: The clinical and administrative context behind routine BP checks Why MIPS might not apply to your practice—and what that means The opportunity cost of low-yield testing How to rethink what “comprehensive” really means in your exam The case for reclaiming time to do more of what matters Bottom line: If it doesn't change how you care for the patient, maybe it doesn't belong in the exam.
This week, we conclude our 4-part series on the #1 killer by talking about how to prevent Cardiovascular Disease. In this episode, you'll find out:—Why Dr. Prather says that preventing Cardiovascular Disease should be a top priority of every office providing holistic care, being responsible for one-out-of-every-three deaths.—How proper diagnostics are the key to preventing Cardiovascular deaths. And why you should seek diagnostics from a Structure-Function Care perspective.—When you should start being screened for Cardiovascular Disease. And why Dr. Prather is finding that it is earlier than recommended.—How there was an 85% improvement in outcomes and 60% reduction in costs when Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO did a trial that featured Structure-Function Care as the primary health care model. —Why Dr. Prather gets better patient results from External CounterPulsation (ECP) Therapy than what the ECP researchers are seeing.—The reason Dr. Prather says that the bodies of those who are triathletes and marathon runners are "a wreck". —Why Dr. Prather says how deep you breathe indicates how long you will live. And why some patients complain that Dr. Prather breathes too heavy! —How it is harder to pump blood through fat than through muscle. And how obesity impacts Cardiovascular Disease.—The greater importance of fat percentage, not just weight, when it comes to a healthy and sustainable weight loss. —The importance of inflammation as the true cause of Cardiovascular Disease, not Cholesterol, in Dr. Prather's view. And how doctors are often surprised when Dr. Prather helps patients to no longer require Blood Pressure medication. http://www.TheVoiceOfHealthRadio.com*Receive exclusive bonus content as a member of our Voice Of Health Patreon Community:https://www.patreon.com/cw/VoiceofHealthPodcastOriginal air date: 12-27-2025

Nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses the renaming of fatty liver disease to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (M-A-S-L-D) to reduce stigma and improve diagnosis. Dr. Mary Ella's efforts at the University of Chicago Medicine highlight how this change aids in better patient identification and treatment. Leyla emphasizes lifestyle changes like a low-carb diet to manage and reverse the disease. The episode also covers the prevalence of fake extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) on the market, ways to identify authentic olive oil, and the importance of choosing quality over mass-produced options.
In this solo episode, Dr. Mike breaks down everything you need to know about blood pressure, why it's so commonly misunderstood, how to measure it correctly, and what optimal numbers really look like. He explains why 120/80 isn't ideal for everyone, why blood pressure variability can be more dangerous than steady high readings, and how sleep, stress, and undiagnosed sleep apnea quietly drive hypertension. The episode walks through a clear, practical framework for managing blood pressure using lifestyle interventions first, followed by supplements, and medications only when necessary. Dr. Mike covers exercise, weight loss, sodium and potassium balance, magnesium, breathing techniques, sauna use, sleep optimization, and evidence-based supplements like olive leaf extract, beetroot, citrulline, and nattokinase. He also explains when medication is appropriate, why ARBs are often preferred, and which drugs can interfere with exercise performance. This is a comprehensive, no-BS guide to protecting your heart, brain, kidneys, and long-term health. Dr. Sunil Gupta explained the complications of diabetes in simple and easily understandable language, highlighting the serious consequences of long-term uncontrolled blood sugar. He stated that persistent hyperglycaemia leads to microvascular complications such as diabetic neuropathy, retinopathy, and nephropathy, while major events like heart attack, stroke, and gangrene are associated with diseases of the large blood vessels. He described early symptoms of diabetic neuropathy, including burning sensation, numbness, tingling, and pain in the feet, and urged patients not to ignore these warning signs. Dr. Gupta clearly emphasized that diabetes control cannot be achieved by medicines alone. He stressed the importance of regular monitoring of blood glucose, HbA1c, blood pressure, cholesterol, and vitamin levels, along with avoiding wide fluctuations in blood sugar levels. He described insulin as the safest and most effective treatment for diabetes and cautioned that unnecessary delay in initiating insulin therapy can significantly increase the risk of complications. He also emphasized that before managing gangrene or planning surgery, strict control of blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol, along with regular walking, quitting smoking and tobacco use, avoiding alcohol, and maintaining a disciplined lifestyle, are extremely important to improve outcomes and prevent limb loss. How can one tree be said to bless, protect, seduce… and curse? In this episode, I'm joined by herbalist and writer Ruthie Kølle for a deep dive into one of my all-time favorite plants: hawthorn (Crataegus spp.). Together, we explore hawthorn's rich folklore, its potent heart-centered gifts, and the magic woven into its thorns, blossoms, and berries. Drawing from her Celtic heritage, Ruthie shares how hawthorn is not just a medicine, but a living bridge to old-world traditions and ancestral ways of healing.Ruthie brought us her recipe for Anam Cara Heart Opening Cordial, a delightful blend of hawthorn and other rose-family plants. I love how this recipe can be so easily adapted to reflect the region you live in! You can download a beautifully illustrated recipe card here. By the end of this episode, you'll know:► Three different body systems that benefit from hawthorn's gifts► What makes hawthorn so nourishing and protective, both for the ecosystem and for the human body► Why most people could benefit from working with hawthorn on a daily basis► Five different ways to include hawthorn in food► Why hawthorn is called the "trysting tree" in Irish lore—and what that has to do with the putrid smell of its flowers► and so much more…For those of you who don't know her, Ruthie Kølle lives in a cabin situated on the northern hem of her family's 9th generation farm, which occupies unceded Lenape land. She is deeply rooted to her place there and has apprenticed herself to reconnecting to her own Celtic ancestral ways, weaving them into the stories of the land where she is currently planted. It's her passion to reconnect with and integrate these traditional and ritual methods of healing into our modern lives.Ruthie has been studying folk and clinical herbalism since 2012, has been practicing intuitive bodywork since 2005, and creating ceramic art for 30 years. This conversation is so full of wonder, story, and heartfelt herbal wisdom. If you've ever felt drawn to hawthorn—or are curious why so many people fall in love with this tree—you won't want to miss this episode!----Get full show notes, transcript, and more information at: herbswithrosaleepodcast.comWould you prefer watching this episode? Nitric oxide has been called the “miracle molecule”—yet most people, including many clinicians, have no idea how essential it is for cardiovascular health, immunity, metabolism, cognition, and longevity. In this episode of Metabolic Matters, Dr. Nasha Winters sits down with Dr. Nathan Bryan, one of the world's leading nitric oxide researchers and a pioneer in molecular medicine. With more than 20 years of groundbreaking work, Dr. Bryan has made many of the seminal discoveries that shaped what we now know about nitric oxide biology. His patented technologies, clinical research, and nitric oxide-based therapeutics have transformed patient care worldwide and generated more than a billion dollars in product sales. Today, he leads Bryan Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing nitric oxide–based drugs for heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetic ulcers, and more.Dr. Bryan shares insights from his early laboratory discoveries, the challenges of bringing disruptive science to medicine, and why restoring nitric oxide may be the missing foundation in modern healthcare.Connect with Dr. Nathan Bryan: Websites: N1o1.comno2u.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drnathansbryan/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DrNathanSBryanNitricOxideAbout Your HostI'm Dr. Nasha Winters, a global healthcare authority, best-selling author, and educator in the emerging field of integrative oncology and terrain-based cancer care. For years, my blood pressure readings at routine checkups came back higher than I expected, even though I train hard, sleep well, and pay close attention to recovery. I wasn't hypertensive, but those numbers never matched how I actually felt — and the rushed way they were taken didn't inspire confidence. After all, when a measurement happens over a sweater, with no rest period, and within seconds of walking through the door, it's hard to trust the result. That disconnect is what led me to today's guest, Craig Cooper. Craig is the CEO of CardieX, the company behind the Conneqt blood pressure monitor, and he's spent decades in cardiovascular technology — including bringing hospital-grade central blood pressure measurements into clinical trials and specialist practices. His perspective matters because he understands what's happening in the arteries closest to the heart, not just what a quick cuff at the arm can capture. When I started using Conneqt at home, things finally made sense. My central blood pressure — the pressure that actually reflects what the heart and major vessels are experiencing — was lower and healthier than my brachial readings suggested. The numbers aligned with my calcium scan, my fitness level, and how I feel day to day. It showed me that the "elevated" arm readings weren't a sign of a problem; they were a sign of poor measurement. From there, Craig and I zoom out into the bigger question: what does it look like to take ownership of your cardiovascular health without disappearing into gadget culture or depending on outdated tools in the medical system? His view is refreshingly grounded: better data helps, but only when it sits on top of simple habits — moving more, building strength, managing stress, and paying attention to long-term trends instead of one-off numbers. This episode isn't about turning yourself into a cardiologist. It's about getting a clearer picture of what your blood pressure actually represents, why the right measurement matters, and how a small shift in awareness can keep you ahead of problems instead of reacting once they've already shown up. About Craig Cooper: Craig Cooper, CEO of CardieX, the company behind the Conneqt blood pressure monitor and a longtime health-tech entrepreneur. He focuses on bringing clinical-grade cardiovascular monitoring—like central blood pressure and arterial stiffness tracking—to everyday consumers. His mission is simple: make advanced heart-health insights accessible at home. Website: conneqthealth.com Learn more:

Nitric oxide touches nearly every system that keeps us alive, yet it's one of the first things to decline with age. In this episode, I sit down with my friend Dr. Nathan Bryan to uncover how low nitric oxide affects blood pressure, circulation, metabolism, sexual performance, and even the microbiome on your skin and in your mouth. We get real about the everyday habits silently blocking this molecule, like mouthwash, fluoride, antacids, sugar, and an over-sterilized environment. We also talk about what restoring nitric oxide can do for your energy, clarity, stamina, and long-term health. "There's only two people in the world who need nitric oxide. There's the people who are sick and wanna get well, and there's the people who are well and don't wanna get sick." ~ Dr. Nathan Bryan In This Episode: - What is nitric oxide? - Why Viagra doesn't work for 50% of men - Ways to increase nitric oxide - Symptoms of nitric oxide deficiency - The age related decline in nitric oxide production - How heavy metals and toxins scavenge nitric oxide - How to naturally restore nitric oxide - Dr. Bryan's nitric oxide lozenge and skincare - The problem with beets, and oxalates in vegetables - How often to take nitric oxide lozenge Products & Resources Mentioned: N1O1 Nitric Oxide Supplements: Lower pressure, sharper energy, youthful glow. Some fluctuations in blood pressure during preganncy are expected, but hypertensive disorders are one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality worldwide. This includes chronic or gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, HELLP, and eclampsia. High blood pressure during pregnancy can place significant stress on your heart and kidneys leading to heart and kidney disease and stroke. It also increases the risk of preterm birth, placental abruption, and cesarean. Plus, it can reduce blood flow to the placenta and limit the oxygen and nutrients available to your baby. Most pregnancy-related conditions resolve after birth, but the risk from hypertensive disorders does not end there. Mothers can develop dangerous symptoms in the days and weeks after birth, even if their blood pressure was normal throughout pregnancy. Recognizing warning signs and seeking medical attention right away can be life-saving.
