Subscribe, Rate, & Review on YouTube • Spotify • Apple PodcastsThis week I speak with author, futurist, and strategist Jessica Clark of Dot Connector Studio today. Jessica has honed her skills for decades on a path that's carried her from AAAS to The Library of Congress to The Encyclopedia Britannica to the Center for Media and Social Impact to The New America Foundation to The Association of Independents in Radio and beyond, and now she oversees a refuge for social innovators working at the intersections of philanthropy, media, arts and culture, and futurism. We need dot connectors more than ever if we are to trace the shape of what's emerging, and I look to Jessica as an example of how to weave research, experience design, production, strategy, and culture-building into something like the raft we need to make our way through vast uncertainty to thriving futures just over the horizon. In this episode we discuss the ideas shared in her book with Kamal Sinclair, Making A New Reality: A Toolkit for Inclusive Futures and how to rethink storytelling in new media.Project LinksPitch and planning documentHire me to help you make senseMake tax-deductible donations to Humans On The LoopBrowse the HOTL reading list and support local booksellersJoin the Wisdom x Technology Discord Server + Bluesky List + X CommunityChapters0:00:00 - Teaser0:01:40 - Intro0:07:51 - Who is Jessica Clark?0:10:42 - “New Media” Means New Kinds of “Reality”0:15:18 - Storytelling & Social Power0:25:07 - Overcoming Groupthink / Problems in The Creative Economy0:32:39 - Fairness in New Media0:40:38 - What Do We Measure While Incubating Creativity?0:48:32 - Post-Institutional Credentials0:55:01 - How Do We Support “The Interstitionaries”?1:02:14 - Intergenerational Wisdom & The Value of Conflict to Truth1:08:59 - What Biases Do We Want?1:14:29 - The Future Voice of Fandom1:18:03 - Acknowledgements & Next Guest(Most) MentionsMaking A New Reality's Toolkit for Change ResourcesKamal Sinclair & Jessica Clark discuss Making A New RealityVictor Pickard's “We Need a Media System That Serves People's Needs, Not Corporations'”William Deresiewicz's “The Death of the Artist—and the Birth of the Creative Entrepreneur”Ward Shelley's Who Invented The Avant Garde Redux, 2020Michael Garfield's “An Oral History of The End of ‘Reality'”Doug RushkoffSep KamvarJulie Ann CrommettStephanie LeppAri KuschnirMaureen FanEugene ChungZebras UniteMetalabel Maureen GiovanniniShannon GilmartinNicole AnandEd CatmullLeslie Fields CruzDavid JayCenter for Humane TechnologyWilliam Irwin Thompson's The American Replacement of NatureC Thi NguyenThomas FrankJennifer BrandelBrian EnoTracy Van SlykeThe Center for Media & Social ImpactMIT Open Documentary LabTrista HarrisPatricia AufderheideInternet ArchiveWikimedia FoundationMalka OlderGlobal VoicesDark Trek This is a public episode. In this episode we introduce you to a part of our bodies that was invisible to Western scientists until about five years ago; it's called "the interstitium," a vast network of fluid channels inside the tissues around our organs that scientists have just begun to see, name, and understand. Along the way we look at how new technologies rub up against long-standing beliefs, and how millions of scientists and doctors failed to see what was right in front (and inside!) of their noses. We also find out how mapping the anatomy of this hidden infrastructure may help solve one of the fundamental mysteries of cancer, and perhaps provide a bridge between ancient and modern medicine.Special thanks to Aaron Wickenden, Jessica Clark, Mara (pronounced Mah-Dah) Zepeda, Darryl Holliday, Dr. Amy Chang, Kate Sassoon, Guy Huntley, John Jacobson, Scotty G, and the Village Zendo EPISODE CREDITS - Reported by - Lulu Miller and Jenn BrandelProduced by - Matt Kieltywith help from - Ekedi Fausther-Keeyswith mixing help from - Arianne WackFact-checking by - Natalie Middletonand Edited by - Alex Neason EPISODE CITATIONS - Articles: Check out reporter Jenn Brandel's companion essay to this episode in Orion magazine, titled, Invisible Landscapes (https://zpr.io/NKuxvYY84RvH), which argues that the discovery of the interstitium could challenge established practices of compartmentalizing in science and society. Our newsletter comes out every Wednesday. Filmmaker Nicole Conn along with model and actress Jessica-Rose Clark bring the desert life of Palm Springs to life fully in this rolicking adventure of Coming Out For Love. Think Bachelorette for Lesbians. Learn all about this ground-breaking approach to making sure Lesbians get some much needed air time about dating and mating. About Nicole, Jessica, and Coming Out For Love Prolific queer filmmaker Nicole Conn (A Perfect Ending, Elena Undone, More Beautiful For Having Been Broken), through her Nicole Conn Films Global, presents Coming Out for Love (“COFL”), a new, 16-episode dating competition premiering worldwide on February 14, 2023, across various digital streaming platforms. New episodes will air weekly. Watch the sizzle reel HERE. Conn tapped LGBTQ+ icon and activist Jessica Clark to host. An actress in such films as True Blood, Season of Love, ALIEN: Harvest, and A Perfect Ending, she is also known as co-owner of High Art Tattoo. "Jessica is made for this,” says Conn, “She's our Padma Lakshmi and Cat Deeley all rolled into one. Her imprint is so strong on this series, we immediately made her a producer.” COFL showcases sixteen queer women living together under one roof and participating in emotional and physical challenges to win weekly keys that unlock the heart of Season One's Single, influencer and activist Amber Whittington. The series prides itself on authentic representation of the queer community and does not shy away from, or edit out, hot button topics or highly volatile scenes, including sensitive racial conversations, racy sexual encounters, and not so “pc” moments. The format, competitions, and relationship interactions will appeal to all audiences, queer or straight. Queer visibility and representation are important for LGBTQ+ individuals to feel validated and helps challenge the toxic misconceptions and offensive stereotypes about the queer community. Season One Single Amber Whittington is a multi-nominee for LGBT Influencer of the Year awards and was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine as a “creator to watch” in May 2022. Whittington's YouTube channel and her “Amber's Closet” platform have been beacons of hope for many young queer women coming out. She boasts over 1.9M followers. Showrunner Nicole Conn continues, “Amber is Gandhi and Barack Obama's love child. She is the absolute strongest first lead we could have ever imagined and everyone in America will fall in love with her.” Conn is thrilled to finally have this series come to fruition, sharing, “I've always been labeled a pioneer and am proud to have the first female-loving-female reality dating competition show make Herstory in 2023. My daughter Gabrielle and I have watched The Bachelor together faithfully for years, rooting for our front-runners. I kept wishing there was a show that represented the love of two mothers she'd experienced in her own life. I've wanted to make this show for over 15 years. My business partners, Lissa Forehan, Brandon Amelotte, and I thought we'd try and have some fun with a small budget. After day one, we knew we were onto a project we'd all be damn proud of in its representation of a very diverse, multi-talented group of young queer women. THIS is the future of reality dating shows.” Co-Executive Producer Brandon Amelotte says, “Coming Out For Love gives the enormous fan base of dating competition shows another fun and engaging option. These are real women opening themselves up as they explore their issues, emotions, and sexuality. Come along for this remarkable journey, you won't be disappointed." The 16-episode series, from Nicole Conn Films Global in...

In The Business of Beauty: Gender and the Body in Modern London (Bloomsbury, 2020), historian Jessica Clark takes the reader on a tour through the shifting commercial and cultural landscape of London in the second half of the 19th Century and the early decades of the 20th. The business of beatification––aimed at both men and women, and conducted by both men and women––was influenced by and reflective of shifting attitudes towards women in public spaces, the influx and success of immigrants in the nation's capital, the development of wholesale production processes and the standardization of commodities, and the cultural competition between European nations that accompanied the growing political and military competition at the fin de siècle, among other things. Over the last two years, parents of public school kids across America woke up and had the time to pull back the curtain and actually see what was going on in their kids' classrooms. Many of these parents knew something was 'off'. The more they dug into these issues, the uglier things were. Sleeping parents finally decided to get involved, took action, demanded accountability from their local schools and their boards and have now stepped up to bring conservative, common-sense values back to public education. Daryn and Randy interview Jessica Clark, a no nonsense conservative school-board candidate in the Rockwood School District in Eureka Missouri bring the heat. Conversations with CGL: Professional Insights and Personal Journeys
Over the last few weeks, months, and years, there have been a lot of developments in the privacy world. For instance, Californians voted to replace the California Consumer Privacy Act with the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) in November. Additionally, the new administration is likely to be more privacy-minded, and they'll also need to renegotiate legal transfers of personal data from the EU to the US. COVID-19 has also resulted in significant changes, largely due to the movement towards work-from-home arrangements. People are now handling and processing confidential information on their own home networks, posing some serious security risks. So, how do we continue to protect privacy where workforces are distributed? With all these recent developments, CGL privacy counsel Jessica Clark joins the podcast to help us navigate the privacy ecosystem. She talks about what these changes mean and what to expect in 2021. We also tackle the biggest question: what should companies be doing moving forward given the risks involved? In this episode, you will hear: Why privacy is such a hot topic on the global stage The drivers behind recent privacy developments Some of the more significant developments Details about CPRA and how companies can become CPRA-compliant Some tips for early-stage companies in managing data What enforcement looks like in California under the new Data Protection Agency What we expect from the Biden administration in 2021 Some important definitions Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? Conversations with CGL: Professional Insights and Personal Journeys
In this episode, I speak with privacy expert Jessica Clark about her journey to distributed work with CGL. She explains how she moved from a fulfilling job with the FTC in Washington D.C. to a leafy suburb in Canada. She also discusses why she didn't want to (or ultimately need to) choose between her career and the lifestyle she desired. To be sure, Jessica's story shows the value of distributed work for lawyers. However, in her experience, the clients benefit too. In this episode, you will hear about: Jessica's career background What spurred her decision to pursue distributed work How she came across CGL The impact the distributed work model has had on her life The distinction between distributed work and remote work The benefits of a distributed model How a distributed model differs from COVID work-from-home arrangements Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? It all started with a friend request. Amanda Playle was flattered to see the Facebook request come in from her old high school boyfriend, Anthony Reynolds. The two hadn’t spoken for a while, but they quickly reconnected. They talked about their lives. So much had changed since their high school days. Amanda was married to her husband Paul. She’d become a mother. Over time, she admitted to Anthony that her marriage wasn’t perfect. But when Anthony pressed her to meet up, she declined. She didn’t want to cross a line. But Anthony refused to take no for an answer. Soon, he began stalking and harassing her. Then Kristin tells us about a man who fell behind on his mortgage payments. Tony Kiritsis planned to turn his real estate into a shopping center, but after falling behind on his payments a few too many times, he found himself under the threat of foreclosure. He was livid, but didn’t blame himself. He blamed Meridian Mortgage. So he showed up at their offices one winter morning with a sawed off shotgun and took mortgage broker Dick Hall hostage. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: The documentary “Dead Man’s Line” Deadmansline.com “Tony Kiritsis” entry on Wikipedia “Kin testify Kiritsis held sister hostage in 1969,” by Carolyun Colwell for The Courier-Journal “Kiritsis jury ‘far from a decision,’” by Kristie Hill for the Associated Press In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “The Stalker Inside My House” episode BBC Outlook “Amanda was terrorised by a stalker for two years. Then she learned her husband was to blame.” by Jessica Clark, mamamia.com “Man jailed for stalking wife by impersonating ex-boyfriend” by Damien Gayle, The Guardian “Bexhill stalking victim speaks out and urges others to seek help” by Isabelle Cipirska, The Bexhill-On-Sea Observer “SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY Mum-of-three terrorised by stalker for two years horrified to discover it was her own HUSBAND” by Carl Stroud, The Sun “'Calculating and cruel' husband, 43, set up fake Facebook accounts to pose as his wife's EX-boyfriend to threaten her and quiz her over past sex life is jailed for more than three years” by Thomas Burrows, The Daily Mail

This week, we’re talking about Veronica’s other half, her twin sister Serena. Like Veronica, Serena is a Keeper from Arboria. Serena is the sweeter, more naive of the twins. She follows Veronica around, which is ironic since Veronica now has the appearance of a child. You’d expect it to go the other way. She is the priest in terms of classic DQ vocations and is voiced by Jessica Clark, whose credits include being a regular on Versailles and appearances in other BBC shows like Call the Midwife. Serena’s outfits The Dancer’s outfit, one of the earliest ones you can get, is really cool. Didn’t like the Divine version as much, though. Austin loves the Serenica outfit you can get, which is a nice callback to other DQ sage outfits. Also liked the Crimson Catsuit. It made her look especially tough, which it’s hard to make Serena look tough. Most of her outfits and her demeanor make her seem cutesy and sweet. Beej liked the Mischief Maker and liked how the Crimson Catsuit seemed as though it were a Persona 5 homage. Serena in combat Austin used her as a healer pretty much all the time. Once she turns into OP Sage, she was in my party at all times. We both used her instead of Rab. Austin used spears with her on my first playthrough, but used wands in XI S. Beej was two wands all the time. Austin experimented with harps because he wanted a Serena and Veronica folk band! I mVeronicaean, that Calamus flute + harp = sweet jams Trivia Time! In the international fan poll for Dragon Quest XI that was released by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Serena was voted the seventh most popular character in the game, but the least popular female party member, with a total of 237 votes. So, so sad. (Veroinca was fourth overall, and the second most popular female character) Serena within the story You rescue her early in the story, when you help Veronica find her. She’s this cautious voice of reason through a lot of the earlier story. How does the loss of her sister affect her? We also talk about the haircut and how hair is such a symbol for women's rebirth and empowerment after a trauma. Deep, yeah? Losing the powers once Veronica comes back. Neither of us used her nearly as much after that. We are sad that she and Veronica don’t get a side story in XI S. What’s up with that? I guess it’d be too spoilery. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dragonquest/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dragonquest/support

It's the 20th Anniversary of their second studio album, The Writing's on the Wall. Before Beyoncé was Beyoncé, there was Destiny’s Child, the Houston-born R&B quartet that gave us the 411 on dealing with the opposite sex romantically. The Writing's on the Wall features mega-hits like “Say My Name,” “Bills, Bills, Bills,” and “Jumpin', Jumpin'.” Essence magazine referred to the album as a masterpiece of Black femininity, women empowerment, and honestly just a banger that still gives us nostalgic feels. Guests include T1International’s US Advocacy Manager, Allison Bailey, Mary Ann Hodorowicz RD, MBA, CDE, Jessica Clark and Patricia Addie-Gentle RN, CDE. Diabetes Late Nite is a fast-paced, full-filled hour of diabetes education and wellness advice that encourages listeners to “laugh a little, learn a lot’.
This weeks guest is Jessica Clark. She will share her story of adopting her son Roman! It's a beautiful story of the miracles that took place in their journey!
We're celebrating World Diabetes Day with musical inspiration from Aretha Franklin. There are many reasons that Aretha Franklin is the legend of legends, a groundbreaking singer with the fortitude to transcend race and genre, using that tremulous voice as the bulldozer to break down every barrier set up in her way. Aretha’s own health journey is sparking a discussion about the uncertain connection between pancreatic cancer and diabetes. Long-standing diabetes can be considered a risk factor for pancreatic cancer. It causes a modest increase in risk of 1.5- to two-fold. Some of the other risk factors for pancreatic cancer include smoking, chronic pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), family history of pancreatic cancer, obesity and certain genetic syndromes. Guests include Poet Lorraine Brooks, Dr. Wendy Satin Rapaport, Diabetes Strong's owner Christel Oerum, Beautyphonics CEO and "Beneath The Makeup"Author Suzanne Perez, Jessica Clark, Trisha Artman, and the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach. Throughout the podcast we will be playing music from Aretha Franklin's 'Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics'courtesy of SONY Music. Diabetes Late Nite is a fast-paced, full-filled hour of diabetes education and wellness advice that encourages listeners to “laugh a little, learn a lot.”

Whereas, Kiron shared his questions and thoughts about the ideas about collaboration between visual artists. It's hard to imagine that in 1992, when veteran director Nicole Conn's Claire of the Moon was released, there was not a significant market for lesbian films. Conn (whose film Elena Undone was QFest's 2010 Opening Night selections) is back again with her new sexy romance. In this bold story about the struggles for truth, love and happiness, we are introduced to Rebecca (Barbara Niven), an elegant, prim and punctilious mother to three grown children and wife of a wealthy husband she no longer shares a bed with. Rebecca has an unusual secret, which she's about to reveal to her lesbian best friends—she's never had an orgasm! Deciding that she needs a hand locating her G-Spot, her friends hook Rebecca up with Valentina (the iconic Morgan Fairchild) who manages a successful service business, catering to the sexual needs of its clients. While money can't buy her love, it can buy time. Her needs are attended to by a high-priced bisexual escort. Paris is a stunning sultry, tall brunette with come-to-bed brown eyes, played by out lesbian model and actress Jessica Clark. Initially wary of their age-differences, Rebecca discovers in Paris a passionate, lustful, intoxicating soul mate who offers respite from her home life. Neither of them could have predicted what develops. What starts as a cash transaction between two strangers ends up uniting two souls. Each needs to learn to love themself (and each other) in order to own her past and journey on. A strong supporting cast and astonishing performances by the films central leads will enthrall audiences. If ever there were a shrine to be built to honor the goddesses of lesbian cinema, it would surely include Nicole Conn who has dedicated her life to our stories and is already working on the script for her next production.
