She had traveled to France on a gap year and while she was there she developed a skin rash that was worse on sun exposure. Kelly is disgusted that he's trying this gambit again, and refuses to accept them, but that's not enough for Matt: even though he totally did not get the job (because, duh, of course he didn't, he almost got permanently disbarred THIS SEASON), he still thinks they should move away -- and if Kelly doesn't agree to do it, he's going to assume it's because she's still in love with Dylan. An apparently successful publishing mogul improbably wants to buy the Beat, but if the deal goes through, it will mean Janet remains to run the publication for a year while Steve is relieved of...whatever his duties currently are. Will Janet like being the family's sole breadwinner while Steve becomes a full-time parent? Let's see how they feel after a trial run! Cue the "jokes" about aprons and castration! David and Donna are now fully single, and actually manage to tell each other that their recent romantic misfires have been due to their resurgent feelings for each other. But Donna, despite all the episodes of yearning we've had to endure, doesn't want to risk her friendship with David -- particularly not when she needs to lean on him because Felice wants to sell the Martin Manse. And Noah and Ellen continue pretty much just treading narrative water; introducing Noah to Ellen's mother and daughter doesn't really move anything anywhere. Janet's "no" on Steve's shotgun marriage proposal apparently was not the last word on the matter. The guys (minus Matt) rally around Steve to try to workshop a proposal Janet will accept, while the ladies (minus Gina) urge Janet to change her mind. In the process, though, Matt reveals that he is kind of dubious about the whole institution these days, and Kelly is a bitch about it in multiple conversations and locations, including on the dance floor. Will Janet decide she can put aside her fear of Steve's special brand of messiness? Will Matt let Kelly beat him into submission on yet another issue? As the Beverly Beat's mandate strays further and further from journalism, it seems Steve has stumbled upon a lucrative revenue stream: The Love Fisher, a computer program that matches singles with ruthless efficiency. First Janet gets curious about how much better the Love Fisher is at picking dudes for her than she is at picking them for herself; then it's Steve's turn to find out what kind of lady the computer thinks he should be with. Will Janet decide she's settled for a good enough guy, and will Steve cling to her for dear life? Noah has apparently transitioned into defending his dead father's reputation on a full-time basis, and is still being very snitty about it to Matt. Then Matt produces a fat environmental impact report which, when Noah reads it (lol, sure he does), convinces him that his father was a big scumbag after all. Speaking of scumbags: Donna is growing ever less certain that shacking up with Noah is the right move, so it's probably just as well that he has the lawsuit to occupy his attention. In the wake of his breakup with Gina, Dylan decides to take off for Vegas with David, who is soon disgusted by Dylan's willingness not to have a one-night stand with Mary but to lie to her about how serious a relationship the two of them might potentially have. Mary then clings, which David encourages, leading to an awkward moment on Dylan's doorstep when both his brunettes show up at the same time. Gina's got her own problems, which begin with a lost filling and continue through Mel's correct diagnosis of her bulimia. When Dylan can't convince Gina to give him a fifteenth chance, he calls Kelly with a threat to start using again, summoning her to a bad neighbourhood and into the path of a predator.
