Hoary old tales retold – ideally in an Irish accent - and new ones prized from the giddy carousel of rock and roll news which, this week, features … … was there a better stage name than Rick Derringer? … Linda Ronstadt, Ronnie Spector, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and other new biopics under construction. … genuinely ‘iconic' rock images – the Ziggy lightning stipe, Johnny Cash at San Quentin, Elvis dancing in Jailhouse Rock, Dylan and Suze Rotolo in Jones Street … … our old pal Barry McIlheney, his Belfast band Shock Treatment and the time he asked U2 to draw a duck. … the thin wall that separates hilarity and grief. … how TikTok and a 1962 B-side booted the 87-year old Connie Francis. … Banned words! – ‘iconic, circle back, reach out, Ramones-esque, eponymous sophomore effort' and other clichés that MUST be banished! … “Sgt Pepper: it's like the Beatles on acid!” … why 80 per cent of the stadium experience is beyond our control. ... how Freddie Mercury still makes headlines beyond the grave. … the real Rikki in ‘Rikki Don't Lose that Number'. … and when you find yourself at a Springsteen gig next to a Trump supporter. How do we begin to get our minds around the global blitz of tariffs unleashed by the Trump Administration. Is it madness or is there a method to the madness? One thing is certain: Donald Trump has definitely captured the attention of leaders in Asia, Europe, Mexico and Canada. They are trying to come to terms with arguably the greatest economic and trade shock in decades. Joining us today is Wendy, Cutler, one of the most skilled negotiators on the planet. She knows trade, she knows tariffs and she has more than 30 years of experience negotiating trade deals. I ask Wendy to talk us through the current state of trade and tariffs, what she thinks President Trump is trying to get done and how this great tariff blitz is likely to land. Let's just say she is not brimming with optimism. But she does have some advice for White House - if the phone rings.

The Annular eclipse will be on October 2nd for the other side of the world during the sundown of Rosh Hashanah. This is one of those moments where the darkness of the soul is to rear its head — the dragon is to rise up and bring the world to its knees as prophecy seems to be coming to fruition with the increase in worldwide calamities and wars. Supply chain shortages are happening on the East Coast due to the severe storm conditions and dock workers on strike. Furthermore, Israel's military says at least 100 ballistic missiles have been fired from Iran at Israel as tensions in the Middle East are at a breaking point. In theory, the Earth is experiencing shock treatment in just a zeptosecond. Today's episode is the first in a series of three that focus on inotropic and vasopressor medications used within anaesthetic practice. During this episode, we discuss metaraminol, ephedrine, phenylephrine, noradrenaline and adrenaline. There's one section of our episode where we thought it important to clarify what we're saying, as to out ears it sounds a little confusing. During our discussion about adrenaline, we state that both noradrenaline and adrenaline have the same affinity for beta-1 adrenoceptors. We then advise that the reason for the inotropic and chronotropic effects of adrenaline - not seen with noradrenaline - are because adrenaline has much greater affinity for beta-2 adrenaceptors than noradrenaline.Resources for today's episode:StatPearls:Inotropes and vasopressors by D. In the twenty-second episode of Season 10: Dealer's Choice, Kyle is joined for one-on-one conversation with musical stand-up comedian JJ Tyson to discuss the prescient cynicism of Richard O'Brien's loose sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the goofy and critical concept album assessment of America's media obsessions, allegiance to figure heads, and the desperation of fame in Brad and Janet's sliding doors reality of Shock Treatment (1981).
Let's do the goddamn time warp! Join the boys as they unearth the sequel that was ultimately not necessary.
Parker's about to hit the road so he can finally "get" Species in Cinci (and maybe some chilidogs too), but before he goes he wanted to share more of his thoughts on Richard O'Brien's 1981 follow-up to Rocky Horror, Shock Treatment (famously reviewed on a very early JFD)! From the BBC World Service: Residents of Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires are pushing back on the plans of the recently-elected President Javier Milei. And in Turkey, people are facing dual pressures of high inflation and interest rates. Plus, why are standing ovations becoming more common in British theaters?
From the BBC World Service: Residents of Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires are pushing back on the plans of the recently-elected President Javier Milei. And in Turkey, people are facing dual pressures of high inflation and interest rates. Plus, why are standing ovations becoming more common in British theaters?
His plan to cut the country's inflation rate comes after what he calls "a decade of decadence." Milei has already taken steps to lower Argentina's 140% inflation rate, decreasing the governments departments by half. This presidency follows years of socialist-liberal elected officials; the country's hope is that self-proclaimed "anarcho-capitalist" will clean up the mess they left behind. Dave and Marty discuss.
At his swearing-in ceremony, President Javier Milei speaks of new era after decades of failure. Also: twin children of jailed Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi accept her Nobel Peace Prize, and the tomato that was lost in space.
From the BBC World Service: Javier Milei has been sworn in as president of Argentina and promised radical changes for the country. Also on the show: TikTok has announced an investment in Indonesian online shopping, and Swedish businesses are worried that a rise in gang violence could damage the country’s global image.

On their way to a Halloween karaoke party, Adam and Charlotte stop by to discuss their top 5 Horror Musicals. The pair highlights the swinging 60s classic Mad Monster Party, the glee-inspired zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse and the underseen Japanese horror comedy Happiness of the Katakuris. They couldn't agree on the number two position, so they split it between Rocky Horror Picture Show and its sequel Shock Treatment. Of course, the number one position goes to one of their all-time favorites, Phantom of the Paradise. Come sing along and drink some wine...
