Meditation isn't what you think it is. It doesn't have to be complicated, or even quiet. You don't have to sit in a cross-legged position with your hands in a mudra (you don't even have to sit upright). It's not about clearing the mind. Meditation can be accessible to everyone, because there are many ways to meditate. Meditation isn't mindfulness. Meditation is a practice that brings you closer to who you are. I've been meditating for a long time, but took six months of study with David Harshada Wagner to learn how to teach meditation specifically. Meditation, by the way, isn't just for being more at peace (though that certainly is a path for many).
