What if the secret to conquering chaos, leading with confidence, and transforming stress into ease was as simple as your next breath? This week on the podcast, I sat down with breathwork expert Samantha Skelly to uncover the transformative power of intentional breathing. As the Founder of Pause Breathwork, Samantha Skelly is on a mission to help others unlock their infinite potential though breathwork. And her next big focus is making breathwork accessible & affordable to humanity, worldwide. From hilariously relatable mishaps (like sending a 10-year-old email to thousands) to life-changing strategies for managing energy and embracing joy, Samantha shared tools that could shift how we approach work, leadership, and even self-healing. Here were some of my favorite topics that we covered in the episode: 1. Managing Emotions Through Breathwork Samantha introduces the concept of consciously choosing your breath pattern to influence how you feel. Instead of letting anxiety take control, she suggests asking yourself what you want to feel, like confidence or clarity, and then adjusting your breath accordingly. By using deep, intentional breaths, you can activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and digest” state), helping you feel grounded, even in high-stress moments. Btw, if you're looking for another breathwork expert on the pod, I think you'll love this one with Erin Telford: The Art of Breathwork: Mastering Self-Love and Living Fully with Erin Telford 2. Real-Life Example of Breathwork Samantha recounts an intense experience right before recording this episode, where an old, out-of-date email was accidentally sent to her entire mailing list. She describes feeling an initial surge of rage, then using breathwork to regain her composure and approach the situation with clarity. By taking two deep breaths and extending the exhale, she shifted from a “fight-or-flight” response to a calmer, problem-solving mindset. 3. Shifting Mindsets from Stress to Ease I reflect on my own experience with stress in building my company, improve it!, sharing how I used to view stress as a badge of hard work. In response, Samantha offers a framework called LIFE: Lucrative, Impactful, Fun, and Easy. She encourages business owners to allow success to feel easy and fulfilling instead of always hard-earned, emphasizing the importance of self-love and creating a business model that sustains rather than drains energy. For all things breathwork and how to start incorporating it into your daily routine (and why you should!), listen to the full episode. It'll blow your mind with how simple it is + the impacts it can have. No, You Hang Up First (Let's Keep Connecting) Did today's episode resonate with you? On today's episode I'm very excited to introduce you to Erin Telford who was my first ever breathwork teacher and is a person that I honour, admire, respect, and I'm very inspired by. We cover so much ground and talk about so many different subjects such as what do we hold sacred, grief, spirit and finding what it is that connects us rather than separates us. Erin is passionate about using her voice and this comes across beautifully.I would love to hear your thoughts about this episode and don't forget to leave me a review and rating if you loved it. It's Truth + Tequila Tuesday! This week's questions comes from ‘Working Mama in Need of Mojo' and she says: I've heard you suggest to have some type of practice, whether it's like meditation or body movement or something like that, and how it provides a good structure, and I still really struggle with getting a practice in place. When I used to exercise, I preferred the evening. I don't know if I'm just not a morning person or if it's that I do stuff late and then I stay up too late, so morning seem impossible for anything regular and I still work a traditional nine to five job. So, I'm a night owl in a daytime person's world. And it drives me crazy because I feel like I'm always struggling to catch up. I'm either staying up late and not getting enough sleep and then the mornings are rushed getting the kids ready and me to work on time. Help! What kind of a practice do you suggest to get this working Mama's Mojo going? Thanks for your question Working Mama in Need of Mojo. She has had careers in aviation, high school teaching and a trauma informed, resilience building, not for profit organisation and now has established her own healing practice which is operating virtually and soon to be back in person! So welcome to my exciting first conversation with guest Erin Telford. Erin is a certified Breathwork teacher and healer, acupuncturist, Reiki Master, and herbalist, based in Topanga California. The first time I did Erin's breathwork , it was with my dear friend Jo, I had no idea what to expect. I laughed, I cried and roared and afterwards felt a complete reset, filled with love and totally blissed out. It was one of those moments that was life changing.. and By the following weekend we'd booked flights to New Mexico to do the training. Erin shares how breathwork can empower us to connect with our intuition, channel our inner strength, and recognize our own ability to heal. As a skilled practitioner, she was doing the work but it wasn't until she experienced David Elliott's style of breathwork at a yoga retreat in Nicaragua that she found, what she describes as the missing piece of the puzzle. She explains having so much rage and grief and sadness in her body, and not knowing how to express it. Breathwork was a powerful and safe space where for the first time, she was able to feel it all - then release it. It was a revelation, and one that left her feeling love, compassion and acceptance in a way she'd never felt. She's helped people all over the world gain emotion freedom and clarity has created Breathwork experiences for Soul Cycle, Goop Health in NY and Wanderlust Festival. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Nylon, Well + Good and The Numinous. We talk about: Transitions and how leaving New York and the dream job in fashion, 15 years ago was the best thing she ever did - how midlife could do with a rebrand - How living in your true essence: isn't just good for you - it's better for the world! How clearing pain and suffering from your body can really brighten your face! She's is currently writing her first book and this conversation took place at her home in Topanga Canyon at the very beginning of lockdown. Enjoy In this episode:- - Discussing the deep rich possibility for evolution, we face as humanity. - Evaluating your life and knowing when to wait and when to act. - Where and how to find your answers. - Developing your relationship to spirit & nature and receiving guidance and support. - If you're in a situation/life/career that you feel is killing you slowly - it might be a good idea to leave it..maybe. And if you're good where you are..stay there! - Death as a catalyst for expansion and inspiration - to make a different choice or make a different move. - The importance of feeling joy in your body. - How when you experience grief - it opens up a ‘grief window' for every grief you've ever experienced, to feel it, heal it and move it out of the body. - Becoming the person you needed when you were growing up. I am so excited to have her on the show! Here's a little more about her. Betsy is a breathwork meditation and yoga teacher based in Atlanta, Georgia. She is passionate about helping people connect to their breath, their body and the present moment so that they can heal from patterns keeping them feeling stuck and disconnected from their deepest desires and purpose. I first met Trish at Breathwork Healer Training 1, and being with Trish felt like home. It was only after meeting at training in Brooklyn that we realized we'd been in the same class at Wanderlust together. Here, we recorded one of our many conversations, and spoke about breathwork, reiki, energy healing, meditation, magic and living in this time of the pandemic. Trish is a Breathwork Facilitator, Reiki Master Practitioner and a founder of the Goddess Gatherings in Annapolis, MD. Her spiritual journey began when a medical emergency brought daily meditation and journaling into her life to support and advance her recovery. That unexpected twist put her on the path of self discovery and healing and ultimately led her to develop her practice. Trish has studied under Erin Telford, a Breathwork facilitator and Reiki Master(amongst other things) and David Elliott, a Breathwork pioneer and completed a program focused on intuitive arts. She sees herself as a life-long student deepening her practice through on-going education and exploration. Intuitive and empathetic, she works with clients individually in person or virtually. On-site group or virtual sessions are also available. Trish believes—and knows from experience—that healing oneself ripples outward and is committed to donating a meaningful percentage of her time and proceeds to national and community charities including, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition “NOCC”, NOCC, Central MD, Chapter, among others. Her work as a founder of the Goddess Gatherings in Annapolis, MD, exemplifies her community spirit in its mission to provide women a safe place to explore their personal and spiritual development. She resides in southern Maryland, just outside of Washington DC, with her son and husband. Her daughter, a market research analyst and artist, lives in Newport, RI. Catherine is here today with Erin Telford. Erin Telford is a Breathwork facilitator and healer, acupuncturist, Reiki Master, herbalist and a teacher of David Elliott's Level One Breathwork Healer Training. Her work guides people to look within, open their hearts and heal their relationship with themselves. Her group sessions, trainings and retreats empower her clients to connect to their innate wisdom so that they can find the answers they are looking for. Erin believes that we all hold core wounds and limiting beliefs that subconsciously run our lives. When we somatically release them from the emotional body and the nervous system, there is freedom on the other side. Our emotions are messengers with information that let us know where to direct our healing and compassion. By de-stigmatizing emotions and the human experience, we can take shame off the table and start to really deal with what's under the depression, anxiety, and patterns that keep us contracted. She has created Breathwork experiences for Free People, the Soul Cycle/Soul Legends retreat, In goop Health NYC and Wanderlust Festival. Her work has been featured in Shape Magazine, Nylon, NY Magazine, Well + Good, The Numinous and in Refinery 29 as one of “6 Women Who Are Redefining Wellness." I am fortunate to share that this is my second conversation with Aimée. I reached out to her asking if she would take some time to share tips for how we can support our whole selves during this pandemic, and within the space of physical distancing. Aimée shared amazing tools and practices that we can apply without much effort, and from the comfort of our homes. Aimée offers weekly virtual breathwork groups on Wednesday night. She is currently available for phone sessions, as well. She mentioned that health care workers can have free access to headspace. I will share that info later, but if you don't have time to listen to this whole interview now, feel free to forward to about 50 minutes and tune in. Details to come. I just really wanted to get this out there. It gave me so much peace to speak with her. Dr. Aimée Derbes, DACM, LAc is a welcoming, grounded soul. I first heard about her over a year ago, when looking for breathwork circles to attend. Everyone (everyone) recommended Aimée, including my teacher, Erin Telford. Today, Aimée has an acupuncture office with high ceilings, endless windows, and a view overlooking the Empire State Building. Not too shabby. Aimée helps people reconnect with their innate vibrancy and wholeness, so they can navigate being human with more ease. Her Manhattan-based healing arts practice, Align Acupuncture, is a refuge for people who are ready to be deeply supported as they let go of living in chronic stress, refill their wells, and heal in a sustainable, lasting way. She offers acupuncture, Healing Touch/reiki, and breathwork sessions and groups in NYC, and works with people all over the country through virtual breathwork and Healing Touch sessions and online groups. Well, we are definitely experiencing something right now. In this hefty episode, Celine and Jeremiah discuss the current elephant in the room, i.e., Coronavirus. BUT it's not all that because they also invited their good friend Jaclyn to teach us the basics of Tarot, a welcome distraction from all the virus talk. You all know how much I love healing conversations, especially with people who are deep practitioners and incredible space holders. Today's guest, Erin Telford is both. We've been circling each other online for years, so this chat was making an official connection, and then I got to attend one of her breathwork sessions a few days after so I can tell you with certainty, this woman is the real deal. Erin's big truth was about our connection to the "unseen." From there we got into the reason I invited her on the show - a post she wrote about why the term "woo woo" is degrades and denies the power of healing practices and modalities. It's cool if you disagree, we both share this perspective and that's what it is, one perspective. We talked about assumptions about healing and healers, breathwork as a modality, navigating fears around "taking on other people's stuff," the importance of great facilitation in healing spaces, our power to self heal, boundaries, and why our triggers are our responsibility. It's a good one, y'all - enjoy, share, and let us know what you touches you! xo, E For more information and for full show notes, head to http://untameyourself.com/324 Truth Telling with Elizabeth DiAlto aims to cut through the noise and ignorance of our current culture by exploring the truths of a diverse range of incredible voices. When I first met Stacey Sexton, it was through a breathwork mentorship program led by Erin Telford. Stacey is the co-creator of The Sex Oil, and is also a breathwork healer. She's a brave, tell-it-like-it-is kind of woman that I found to be more and more amazing, as I got to know her. I learned a lot about Stacey, about her business - she shared a BIG SECRET about her business - being a mom, and more. I love the story of her magical (literally) childhood in New Orleans, her grandma Ruby, and how she got called into this sacred life. We recorded our conversation in a big, airy conference room at The Wing in SoHo. Keep that in mind when noticing the sound. Stacey Sexton is a Reiki Master, Breathwork facilitator, Mama, and co-owner of the plant-based intimate skincare line, The Sex Oil, that bridges together the synergy of natural aphrodisiacs and energy work to reconnect people back to their sensuality. She believes in #pleasurepoweredbyplants, the medicine of laughter, human touch, and that mothers rekindling their creative fire is part of our collective healing. Her offerings include workshops, speaking events, energy healing and all-natural botanical products. I remember my first breathwork experience with Erin Telford. My heart burst open and I knew that she was going to be my first teacher. I've attended her live groups, virtual groups (including Sacred Terrain), workshops at Maha Rose; I even did a mentorship with her called Deepen Your Practice. There are many reasons to love her, and as you listen in to the conversation that we recorded at the Wing, you'll discover them for yourself. I remember the first time I saw Melodee Solomon's work. It was a photo she'd taken of my teacher, Erin Telford. I was blown away by the way the light appeared in the photo, the softeness of the environment, and the way that Erin's energy came through. It took months for me to find the courage to step in front of her lens, and all that courage mustering was pointless, because Melodee is all heart. I was so nervous to meet her that first time, taking care to be super respectful of the time and professional boundaries. Find out more about what it's been like to work with Melodee in my blog post here: www.tiffanycurren.com/blog/the-light-and-magic-that-is-melodee-solomon Melodee has photographed hundreds of artists, healers, and conscious entrepreneurs in the wellness industry around the U.S. Her intention is to create imagery for projects, leaders, and movements that aim to implement healthier systems (internally and externally) for humanity and the planet. With her camera as a sacred tool, she births images into the world that spark curiosity for sustainable change; to bring consciousness to concepts that will help push forward human evolution and a thriving living planet. Melodee's main inspiration is the relationship between healing of the self, creativity, and healing of the Earth. Mostly shooting outdoors, she weaves sacred ritual into her creative process by making offerings of sage, tobacco, corn, piñon and cedar to the land she works on. Each photo shoot is a conscious exchange between the sun, land, and essence of the subject. Through the medium of photography, coupled with the awe-inspiring quality of nature, she artfully reconnects humans to the life-force that flows through all living things. Beyond her camera work, Melodee is a breath work facilitator, dedicated student of personal healing, and continues to explore the unfolding of how her gifts can further play into the larger role Earth stewardship. Stephen makes my heart feel so full, and when you listen to this podcast track, you'll hear why. I met him through breathwork, and then discovered that he is also a Feng Shui consultant. I brought him on to talk about all of this cool stuff, and was shocked to learn about his other job (his whaaat?) Also, have a minute to read more about Stephen, in his own words: I’m a breathwork facilitator, Reiki healer, and Feng Shui consultant practicing in NYC, Jersey City and Philadelphia. Originally from Southern California, I have lived in and around NYC since 2004. My spiritual path really took off in 2007 with an opportunity to study Feng Shui with an esteemed master, Vincent Smith. Less than a year later and definitely as a result of that work, I found myself in a spiritual program of recovery where I learned to pray and meditate, building a solid relationship with Spirit. About 2 years ago I completely fell in love with breathwork, and it has seriously changed my life for the better. In that short time, I’m very fortunate to have trained with master teachers Erin Telford and David Elliott, completing Breathwork Healer Training Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Reiki Level 1 with Erika Spring. Chris and I talk about breathwork healing, astrology, and how those two things work so well together. A Southerner by birth and a New Yorker for the last two decades, Chris Phipps is a breathwork healer and astrologer, in addition to working in technology as a product developer and strategist. Emerging from a dark period of addiction in the mid-00s, Chris has spent the last 12 years studying multiple spiritual practices that have brought the version of himself that he currently sees in line with the same one Spirit and others see. A few years ago, breathwork emerged as one of the brightest of those spiritual practices. Chris recalls, "No other modality has made me so comfortable in my skin, so able to see myself and others around me authentically. It started as something I did with friends and soon became something I wanted to bring to other people so that their own self-reflections could match the experience I was having.” Having been certified via the Healer Training instruction of David Elliott and Erin Telford, Chris now offers breathwork sessions, both solo and with his business partner, Stephen Roehler, to help people really uncover who they are. He also offers astrology readings that guide people through what blocks them and what is ultimately possible. He’s currently studying with astrologer Adam Sommer and will be certified within the next year. Jessica is joined this week by her breathwork teacher + acupuncturist Erin Telford. Erin shares about her journey into breathwork and becoming a healer, why she loves this practice so deeply, and how she continues to be inspired by its potency. In the midst of all the events happening in our world, again and againwhat I keep coming back to for healing is feeling our feelings. Letting the grief, the anger, the fear come to the surface to be loved. And that's what today's episode on the Rising Women Leaders podcast is all about. It wasa joy to sit down with another sensitive soul and kindred spirit Erin Telford to speak about healing our hearts, honoring our emotions and listening to our "soul whispers." I hope you enjoy it. "Healing is not about calming down. It’s not about blunting your feelings. It’s about moving the lifetime of pain energy out of the body. " In this episode we discussed: What ignited Erin's healing journey The experience of her first breathwork ceremony Listening to her soul whispers and her decision to leave NYC An inside peek of the book she is ready to birth! Healing the heart ~ Erin's experiences with heartbreak and her thoughts on healing the heart when letting go of someone you love What Erin attributes to her success as a spiritual business woman "When you know your value is not negotiable by outside situations, that's when you know you're pretty solid." I think that’s one of the scariest things ever, to be naked in front of another human being, on all levels."
You feel like you have it all together on paper -- the job, the home, the friends. But something still feels like it's missing. You think it must be possible to feel better than this, more joyful and energized, less anxious and uncertain -- but you don't know how. Fashion publicist turned NYC breath-worker Erin Telford of has been there, done that and is here to help us uncover what's missing on a soul level. She'll also walk us through a breath exercise that you can do at home whenever you need grounding.
Untangled | stories about untangling from society's giant rule book
Ten years ago Erin Telford was working in the glamourous world of fashion. She should have been happy. Fashion had been her life-long dream. Instead she was burnt out and stressed out. Knowing it was time to make a change – but having no idea what to change to – Erin began to pray. Every day, for six months, she prayed to the skies "What am I supposed to do? Please show me my next step. Please show me a sign. Please help me." Then, one unexpected day, wrapped in Jessica Simpson's face on the cover of Elle Magazine, her answer was delivered… Listen in as Erin shares: + Her story from strung-out fashionista to blissed-out healer. + The huge amount of debt she incurred to chase her dreams but why she believes this was a necessary part of her growth and transformation. + How she discovered her soul service offering of 'self-love' and why, initially, she thought the whole idea was "gross". + How she finds the faith to continually listen to and follow the guidance of her soul. + Why your "purpose" may not necessarily be super obvious. + How you can move with the divine flow of the Universe while also co-creating all that you desire.
