Déby built Chad's powerful army for a few reasons: to protect his regime from the constant ethnic rivalries and ambitions of various warlords from the country's north; and also to achieve international recognition, credibility, and leverage in order to manage internal politics and use economic resources without interference. Déby always received strong backing from the West, particularly France and the U.S., despite his autocratic rule and rampant government corruption. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support

Today, clean skin and naturally beautiful features have become the new standard of beauty in the modern age. People want to be photo ready at all times, even when they're doing something simple like lying in bed or cooking dinner after work. Two people who received “vampire facials” at a now-closed Albuquerque salon later tested positive for HIV, New Mexico officials say. Now former VIP Salon owner Maria de Lourdes Ramos de Ruiz faces 24 felony charges, including practicing medicine without a license, the state Attorney General's office says. Other charges include racketeering, fraud, money laundering and tax evasion, prosecutors said. In 2019, two VIP Salon customers who had received “vampire facials” tested positive for HIV, the virus that can cause AIDS, prosecutors said. Vampire facials are a medical procedure involving platelet rich plasma therapy to rejuvenate damaged skin, according to Allure. Celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Bar Refaeli have undergone the procedure. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support
The first publicly funded, organized police force with officers on duty full-time was created in Boston in 1838. Boston was a large shipping commercial center, and businesses had been hiring people to protect their property and safeguard the transport of goods from the port of Boston to other places. Immigrants from Germany and Ireland began settling in cities like Boston and New York between 1820 and 1860. This new group of immigrants clashed with original settlers from England and The Netherlands. As the original settlers argued that the new immigrants were ruining American society, crime began to rise. The cities saw mobs, public lewdness, disorderly conduct, and prostitution. It was a system that some say was created on racist sentiments: Some parts of the country started policing communities to control new immigrants, while other regions created groups to control slaves. he winners of the European Super League could earn almost triple what they would in the Champions League. Each participating club in the European Super League will receive 3.5 billion euros to start with, with American bank JP Morgan heading up the financial backing of the project. The club that wins the European Super League could be due close to 400 million euros, compared to the 120 million euros that is given out to the Champions League winners each year. Barcelona, who reached the semi-finals in 2019, received 117 million euros in prize money. As for the rest of the 1.95 billion euros in the European Super League, 488 million (25 percent) will be handed out in initial payments and another 585 million based on results. Another 30 percent of payments will go based on a club's coefficient achieved over the past 10 years. That leaves 292 million euros (15 percent) dished out in add-ons. These figures haven't been confirmed by the European Super League, but they almost triple those currently earned by clubs in the Champions League. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support

The premise of Omegle is simple, users log on with a webcam and microphone and are randomly matched with another user with whom they can chat or reject. White supremacists and racists use these roulette-style chat opportunities to “troll” and harass women and minorities, and to attempt to recruit others to their extreme ideologies. There have also been several arrests stemming from activity on Omegle. A Pennsylvania man was arrested on sexual assault charges in 2018 in connection with a relationship formed with a 15-year-old girl using Omegle and other apps. Another man was arrested in upstate New York in 2016 after allegedly uploading child pornography on Omegle. It dumps steel and other goods on the world market at below the cost of production in order to put U.S. manufacturers out of business. It funnels billions and billions of dollars in shadowy subsidies and “loans” to its many state-owned enterprises. Saturday was Armed Forces Day in Myanmar, and the ruling generals marked it with the slaughter of over 100 people, including a five-year-old and other children, at pro-democracy protests across the nation. It was the worst bloodshed since a coup that began on 1 February. State media had issued a warning on Friday evening, saying that the largely peaceful protesters risked being shot “in the head and back”. Despite that, crowds poured on to the streets of Yangon, Mandalay and other towns, where security forces gunned them down with impunity. A one-year-old was reportedly also hit in the eye with a rubber bullet. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support
Along with the benefits of social media, risks and negative consequences can arise. Too much social media use can result in lower interaction with family, friends, or co-workers. Exposure to inappropriate content like violence and pornography is highly possible without the use of monitoring and parental control applications. Inappropriate behavior such as bullying, slander, or sending/posting risky pictures can happen because a social media user has a false sense of security behind the screen. World War II has taught many people different things. Some learnt about the willpower of humans and what it means when one's homeland is invaded. Others discovered humanity's limitations, such as whether one can push their moral boundaries to serve their country despite the pressure of their own values. Personally, the lesson I take away from that historical event is that you – or a nation - can still wear your scars proudly and learn to shake your enemy's hand. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support
The veteran leader was declared on Saturday the winner of Uganda's presidential election, cementing his position among the world's longest-serving leaders. The results, which have been rejected by the opposition, followed one of the bloodiest campaigns in years, with at least 54 people killed in November as security forces violently broke down opposition protests. Opposition figures, meanwhile, were repeatedly harassed and arrested, while members of the media also came under attack. Main opposition leader Bobi Wine has dismissed the electoral process as a rigged “sham”, but Museveni, in a televised address to the nation on Saturday, said Thursday's polls may turn out to be Uganda's “most cheating-free election” since independence from the United Kingdom in 1962. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support
Last week, Twitter permanently suspended President Donald Trump's account – and over the weekend quickly shut down the President's attempts to jump to alternate accounts including the official POTUS account. The president also faced a ban from social media giant Facebook. And it wasn't just President Trump who was in essence silenced, as over the weekend, Amazon shut down the web servers to Parler, the Twitter alternative that had attracted a large conservative following. In the case of President Trump it has been used at times as his primary way to reach his supporters. While there is no denying that the President has posted information that is far from truthful, the issue is whether that actually warrants his being silenced. There's a growing body of evidence that what is happening, that the content policies on the big networks are fueling the cultural divide and a lot of the polarization and civil unrest. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support

The oceans also regulate the global climate; they mediate temperature and drive the weather, determining rainfall, droughts, and floods. They are also the world's largest store of carbon, where an estimated 83% of the global carbon cycle is circulated through marine waters. But the interaction between these two natural forces is altering, and the exchange is intensifying. We're seeing the consequences of this around the world. In the last 200 years, the oceans have absorbed a third of the CO2 produced by human activities and 90% of the extra heat trapped by the rising concentration of greenhouse gases. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support

Many people now know it's possible to work from home and hold meetings virtually - but fast and reliable broadband and mobile phone services make that far easier. Cities from London to New York, Barcelona and Milan aim to expand space allotted for cyclists and pedestrians, as more people head back to work, in a bid to avoid crowded public transport systems and packed sidewalks. Low interest rates and the need for government spending also mean it's a great time for infrastructure projects that could shield us from climate threats, among others policies. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/adanmohammedadan/support
Climate change, also called global warming, refers to the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth. An overwhelming scientific consensus maintains that climate change is due primarily to the human use of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the air. The gases trap heat within the atmosphere, which can have a range of effects on ecosystems, including rising sea levels, severe weather events, and droughts that render landscapes more susceptible to wildfires. The primary cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, which emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere—primarily carbon dioxide. Other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation, also contribute to the proliferation of greenhouse gases that cause climate change. While some quantities of these gases are a naturally occurring and critical part of Earth's temperature control system, the atmospheric concentration of CO2 did not rise above 300 parts per million between the advent of human civilization roughly 10,000 years ago and 1900. Today it is at about 400 ppm, a level not reached in more than 400,000 years.
