The House Select Committee investigating the insurrection has requested 35 telecommunications companies preserve their records in anticipation of future subpoenas. Kevin McCarthy and Marjorie Taylor Greene not only objected to the companies preserving their records but make threats that squarely constitute obstruction of a congressional proceeding. In an almost comical turn of events, after a dozen Republicans complain vociferously that Congress can't make these preservations requests and that the telecom companies must not comply with these requests, a new letter appears, signed by Gaetz, Gohmert, Greene, Gosar and others, requesting that the telecom companies do exactly what the Republicans allege they can't do - preserve the phone records of Kamala Harris, Pelosi, OAC and others. Folks, you can't make this stuff up. This video discusses how preservation requests ordinarily work and why Congress will get the records they seek. Plus, what we're now learning about Jim Jordan's multiple conversations with the president on January 6th—and why the select committee is seeking his phone records. It's a big week for Michael Avenatti. A mistrial! Judge Selna ruled that the government had withheld financial evidence they should've made available to Avenatti as he defended himself in the case where he was being tried for embezzling funds from his clients. He's going to be tried again in October. Is it a major factor that each side has seen the other's hand? Does this make the case much more expensive, and is that to Avenatti's advantage? And is Michael Avenatti a good lawyer now??? In other Southern California legal proceedings … Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz got married on Santa Catalina Island. How romantic! Ken reviews the spousal privilege for us because, as you might remember, Gaetz is also part of a sex trafficking investigation. Also: thumb-headed henchman Igor Fruman (remember him?) is expected to change his plea to guilty in the criminal case where he's accused of advancing Ukrainian business interests in the U.S, including soliciting campaign contributions. Should Rudy be more freaked out ...or less freaked out? Finally: Ken and Josh discuss charges for Infowars host Owen Shroyer and the sentencing of Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio, and follow up on a “criminal complaint” about Jeffrey Clark.
The legal noose continues to tighten around Matt Gaetz as his so called “wingman,” Joel Greenberg, releases damning new evidence; including text messages, social media DM's and thousands of hours of video. Michael sifts through the sleaze to paint a shocking and ugly portrait of public corruption and Gaetz's creepy penchant for chasing underage girls. Later, legendary political writer Andrew Sullivan joins Mea Culpa to discuss his new book, Out On A Limb and helps Michael connects the dots on the GOP's journey to extremism. This is an hour not to be missed!
Today, in the Hot Notes: new documents reviewed by ABC News reveal a more complete picture of Matt Gaetz's crimes; a GOP strategist is arrested in Minnesota for sex trafficking minors; Rand Paul discloses his wife's COVID related stock purchases 16 months after the deadline; Trump appeals the Mazars and House Oversight Committee ruling;the Pentagon is deploying 3000 troops to Afghanistan to evacuate Americans; Rachel Maddow is considering leaving MSNBC; plus David in Brooklyn is here to help AG deliver your good news. Cuomo needs to resign, but after protecting Gaetz and Trump the GOP needs to STFU. Mayor De Blasio mandated vaccines for those engaged in indoor activities. Florida broke coronavirus hospitalization once again. The courts said Indiana University could require students to get the jab. In news that isn't shocking, sexual harassment allegations plague a FOX News "personality." The once imprisoned former Governor of Illinois said he was suing his way back into government. Violent, radicalized Trumpists stormed a county GOP meeting. Pillow Czar Lindell said his losing one million bucks a week because Faux News won't air ads for his dumb symposium. Florida's ghost candidate scandal continued to evolve. A councilwoman in Cali got in trouble for failing to report a partial payment of a boob-job as a political gift. Maricopa County defied a subpoena from the state senate regarding Cyber Ninja shenanigans.
Gov. Ron DeSantis held a secret meeting on COVID-19. No reporters in the room mean no embarrassing questions about the rise in cases. Also, on today's Sunrise: — Democrats in the Legislature are piling on DeSantis. Sen. Annette Taddeo wants the Governor to declare a state of emergency and Sen. Audrey Gibson wants him to order the health department to return to daily reporting of COVID-19 stats. — Congressman Charlie Crist, who is running for Governor, says DeSantis is more concerned with a run for the White House than he is about the surge in COVID-19 cases. — And as long as the Governor is ignoring the issue, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried — also running for Governor — decided to start holding her own news conferences on the COVID-19 crisis. — In Washington, the House holds its first hearing on the Insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, much to the dismay of Congressman Matt Gaetz. — Speaking of Gaetz, his future sister-in-law describes him as “weird and creepy.” Roxanne Luckey posted a video on social media describing how he encouraged a colleague in his mid-30s to ask her out when she was a 19-year-old Capitol intern. — And finally, a Florida man wanted to walk to New York in a water bubble.
Capitol police described the horrific violence of Trump's GOP MAGA insurrection during the first day of House hearings on the attempted coup. As we wallow in covidiots, the CDC is again recommending masks for fully-vaccinated humans indoors due to the Delta variant surge. Many GOP loons of Florida are torn because their guy Ron DeSantis says the vaccines work. Coach Dave Daubenmire lost his tiny religious extremist mind and claims Dr. Fauci is an emissary to the devil. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene's little show outside congress was drowned out by hecklers. Gaetz's future sis-in-law thinks her sister's fiance is a "creep." A literal Nazi scumbag blames "antifa" for why he shot a woman in the back when she absconded with his swastika flag. "Ex-gay" right-wing turd Milo Yiannopoulos has a new prestigious gig reading Bible verses on Rick Wiles' TruNews network. George P. Bush apparently didn't lick Trump's hole more than Ken Paxton.
Steve and Jim are together in the Cleveland Studio to discuss the sentencing of insurrectionist Paul Allard, Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene's fund raising efforts (be ready for Jim's conspiracy theory), Steve gives lays out an analogy about virus adaptation and we also discuss several other issues including rich guys almost going to space...enjoy. @whiskeycongress on IG and Twitter

Nancy wondered where you could have heard such a thing. Now we know where — from Nancy Pelosi, today. You've heard that Eric Adams is in the lead for the New York City Democratic Mayoral primary. Candidate Maya Wiley says she's taking her ranked-choice #2 spot and is turning it into a #1. You might have heard Andrew Yang's presidential team screwed the pooch, but they say it was the mayoral team. And now David Waldman and Greg Dworkin with the latest: Field trip! House Republicans get to dress like Great White Hunters with Donald Trump down by the border. If they find any Trump wall still standing they will pose in front of it. Peter Doocy asks Jen Psaki if Kamala Harris might have a secret crush on Donald. John McAfee, founder of the McAfee antivirus software company was ”eccentric”... You know, the on a remote Belize island running a bio-lab, dozens of armed guards, neighbor turning up with a bullet hole in his head, harems of under age prostitutes, admitted and suspected drugs and drug dealing sort of “eccentric”. The one thing John apparently wasn't into was paying taxes. McAfee told friends “If I suicide myself, I didn't. I was whackd” and, “Know that if I hang myself, a la Epstein, it will be no fault of mine.” Anyhow, yesterday, John was found… Well, he was found in Spain. The Saudi operatives who killed Jamal Khashoggi received paramilitary training in the U.S., which evidently did not include “making it look like a suicide”. Edward Snodgrass simply tried to execute ”a dying man's wishes”, which happened to be "voter fraud”. He might get the book thrown at him, including months in jail, unlike Crystal Mason, who was unaware that she couldn't vote on parole, and got 5 years. There's no jail time for the first defendant to be sentenced in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the US Capitol, but there are a lot more to come. Donald Trump downplayed COVID-19 while hundreds of thousands of Americans died, caught it (worrying Mark Meadows sick), leveraged the power of the presidency to get himself cured, then went back to mocking people who did get sick while hundreds of thousands more Americans died. Idiot Matt Gaetz tried to showboat on critical race theory, but General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, earned his title, and proved it with his answer to Gaetz, who probably still has his head cocked like a Labrador retriever, trying to understand it. This is not what Laura Ingraham paid Milley to do. “Critical Race Theory” sounds like maybe you're trying to criticize people's racism, and there are many people out there who are proud of their racism and ready to fight you for it. David suggests that non-racists do nothing… but do nothing over at school board meetings, where taking up space can be good. Progressive leaders and activists wonder if Joe Biden's magic wand broke. Meanwhile, populist and fake-populist leaders in Eastern Europe are sad that no one likes them anymore. In the US, the Southern Baptist Convention had to elect new no-nothings when their old no-nothings learned too much. Ivanka and Jared are privately appalled with the behavior of Donald Trump, or they're just laying low until the estate sale. Okay, so maybe it wasn't Italian satellites causing Donald to lose the election. Maybe it was chickens... No, those weren't kernels of truth on the henhouse floor.
Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett, Jon Alter, and Matt Miller join Harry in a week when the continuing influence of former President Trump was on regular display. Trump's former Counsel, Don McGahn, finally testified before Congress; but he was limited to facts already in the public record. Core Trumpians Matt Gaetz and Louis DeJoy were looking down the barrel at serious criminal charges. And state actors in Texas and elsewhere looked to implement Trump's cynical strategy of voter suppression.

On Episode 9 of Legal AF (#LAF), MeidasTouch's end-of-the week law and politics podcast, hosts MT founder and civil rights lawyer, Ben Meiselas and national trial lawyer and strategist, Michael Popok, examine the looming indictment of the Trump Organization by the joint prosecutor task force led by the NY AG and the Manhattan DA. Ben and Michael then reopen #LAF University Law School, and teach a mini-course on criminal statutes of limitation and how that may speed up the Trump indictment, unless a tolling agreement is entered into. The "Legal Analysis Friends" next take on the possibility that Florida Governor DeSantis will attempt to prevent the extradition of Trump back to New York, should he be indicted and what a Federal judge would say about that. Speaking of Florida and bizarre events, Legal AF takes a deep dive into the federal conviction and plea deal and cooperation of former Seminole County (FL) tax assessor and Congressman Matt Gaetz's main "bro," Joel Greenberg, and what it means for the likely indictment of Gaetz. Easter Egg alert: Ben and Popok explain why Greenberg was a "queen for a day" and it's not what you may think. Next up, the co-hosts discuss Sidney Powell and her misuse of fundraising money to pay for her personal legal defense against the defamation suit brought by Dominion Voting Systems. A LegalAF episode would not be complete without Ben getting special delight out of "Cyber Ninjas" and their inept "fraud-it" in Arizona, that is now leading to the State considering, ironically, throwing the 400 voting machines they examined because of possible corruption of the equipment by Cyber Ninjas. Finally, and in somber tones, Ben and Michael examine SCOTUS’s decision to revisit Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose under the guise of examining a Mississippi federal judge's decision to stay an anti-pro-choice law banning all abortions after 15 weeks. It is an ominous sign that a Republican majority court (6-3) is now doing a full-frontal assault on what had been a constitutionally-protected right of privacy. This week the walls closed in a little further on the Former Guy as New York Attorney General ‘Tish James announced her department would be investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity. This significant development comes with sweeping powers for the investigators to root out fraud and spells doom for the former president who fears prison above and beyond all else. Matt Gaetz’s wingman Joel Greenberg pleads guilty to six counts including underage sex trafficking and agrees to flip on Gaetz. Details of a cocaine and hooker fueled party at a Trump defense fundraiser in Orlando adds to the Congressman’s trouble. Finally, Tom Nichols joins Mea Culpa to discuss the GOP’s drift into insanity and authoritarianism.
