Nathan joins a kickball league but is way too competitive. Nathan is starting to live more of a balanced life in New York but constantly feels like that means he isn't grinding as hard as he should. Roni explains to him through theories, research, and history, that Nathan is tripping and needs to chill out.
After a long hiatus, the brothers are back and excited to share their major life transitions. Nathan realizes he is becoming addicted to the grind since moving to NYC while Roni shares his 4 pillars of how he made the decision to go full time with his EQ Schools company. Roni has major issues with Nathan's new haircut. Nathan thinks his toe is broken but tries to not let it bother him from the exercise on Episode 7. Nathan explains to Roni what a mixer is and explains why he's not a fan of organized social gatherings. Roni introduces the concept of flow from the study of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He explains how one can reach flow from any type of work, social interactions, games, and much much more.
Nathan takes out his anger on Roni's couch. They share their ear quake experiences and somehow transition the conversation to phrases that are code for sex, which they both didn't know were code for sex until it was too late. Then they get into Byron Katie's Exercise called The Work that allowed them to address a serious issue they've been having for years. Lastly Roni presents a mantra from Byron Katie that can save you from further suffering and mentally liberate you forever. Yeah, this episode gets deep.
Nathan goes off on Roni's automated email response while Roni states that email is the biggest time waster during work. Nathan then shares not one but two girl stories. They laugh over the horror of the SATs which lead to a enlightening discussion between perfectionism and optimalism. The exercises Roni describes are writing down worst case scenarios, focusing on the journey more than the destination, treating setbacks as gifts, and having compassionate pep talks to oneself.
Episode 5- Nathan Goes on a Rant, to Himself by Nathan Habib and Roni Habib
Nathan talks about his love for Muay Thai, finds out that Roni has no idea who Jamie Foxx is, and Nathan admits he has constipated eyes, meaning it's difficult for him to cry. Nathan addresses his frustration on the idea that success brings short term happiness and relationships bring long term happiness. Then they go on discussing John Gottman's Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse describing actions that are sure ways to end any kind of relationship. Roni suggests tangible actions to strengthen a relationship during tough times. Lastly, Roni asks Nathan whether or not he currently even wants to be in a committed romantic relationship.
Nathan tells the story of taking an audience member back to his place, sort of. He then chats about eerie signs of gratitude he experienced throughout the week. Roni and Nathan read their gratitude letters to each other. Roni introduces what makes a happy life focusing on one strong variable.
