Do you ever feel stuck or like you can't get out of your own way? Lisa Moore, Founder and CEO of Success Tangent, has a suggestion for you: Change up your mindset. This episode of She Turned Entrepreneur is focused on subtle – and not so subtle – shifts we can make in the ways we talk to ourselves or assess business challenges. Lisa and her team at Success Tangent teach solopreneurs, entrepreneurs and small business people of all kinds new approaches to stubborn challenges, whether looking at business development as an iterative process or taking a time-out with watercolors as a neurological channel to creative problem-solving. Lisa offers a unique methodology based on industrial and organizational psychology research she compiled while completing a master's degree at Harvard. Her special sauce is the ability to distill metrics and abstract concepts into actionable steps towards realizable goals. She also empowers entrepreneurs at all stages to give themselves a break, step back and really assess strengths, weaknesses and available resources. A path forward is always there – if you deploy that all-important growth mindset. Leveraging her “people operations” skills, Lisa is here to share innovative new strategies designed to help us achieve our goals, both professionally and personally. You'll appreciate Lisa's Top Tips for aspiring entrepreneurs as well as practical strategies for anyone experiencing overwhelm or burnout. Ready to change your mindset? Lisa is also offering newsletter subscribers a free download of her guide, Criticism: Why It Hurts and What to Do About It. Click here to listen to, rate and review this or previous She Turned Entrepreneur episodes. Here are key takeaways from the conversation:· Did you fall into your niche? Or were you led? Probably some of both!· Entrepreneurs and small businesses need marketing services at affordable price points.· Want more traction? Acknowledge strengths, define weaknesses, create an action plan. · A lot of what solopreneurs and entrepreneurs do is iterative, incorporating real-time adjustments as information becomes available.· Key Advice: Simply try to be a better version of yourself tomorrow than you were today.· Feeling stuck? Find a creative hobby that can transport you away from business temporarily into a more peaceful, mindful, connected realm.· Networks and outside opinions can be helpful, but remember that your journey is uniquely your own and not a template of anyone else's.· Don't beat yourself up! If you're trying, you are succeeding!· Understand that there will be fallow seasons. It's just a law of nature that some periods bear more fruit than others. Here's a quick look into the episode:· About Lisa's “people operations” background in the corporate sector, a return to graduate school and research into “growth mindset” that translated seamlessly as a methodology for businesses negotiating pandemic times.· While data-driven decision-making is important, Lisa brings a different element with educational content that trains and provides workplace cultures with tools to support a “growth mindset” approach to both evaluations and growth strategy.· “Mindset” coaching is similar to life coaching, with workshops and trainings available to foster integration.· Success Tangent's client base primarily caters to solopreneurs and small businesses that need help getting traction. · Top Tips for Entrepreneurs:o Metrics can be discouraging, but remember that they aren't qualitative.o Widen the lens you use to evaluate your performance and measure success.o Recognize what you're doing well and where you need improvement – then create an action plan that breaks it all down.o Things that don't work still have value. Business success is incremental and can require many iterations in order to get the formula right.· Advice for entrepreneurs who are feeling overwhelmed:o Step back and take a break.o There can be a law of diminishing returns at play, so know when to stop.o Regroup! Step away and do something creative to cleanse the mind.o Make a list of what's going well and what isn't. Then articulate actionable steps to try, execute, adjust, then try again.o Experimentation over time generally moves every problem towards resolution.o Don't succumb to negative self-talk or defeatism. If you're trying, you're succeeding.o Remember: You're only in competition with yourself.o Little setbacks are not the end of the world. Keep perspective!· Neurology tells us: It's important to let our brains have a rest, recharge and regenerate.

Welcome to Grit & Growth's masterclass on corporate governance, featuring Alexey Volynets of International Finance Corporation. From what structures make sense to employ, and when in the life cycle of your business you should use them, Volynets provides advice and insights on how corporate governance can be a powerful tool for your business. While many entrepreneurs fear corporate governance because they believe it means more legal constraints and less control, Volynets wants to change the way founders of small to medium-size enterprises think about governance. He has been researching and teaching companies about the ins and outs of corporate governance for years and understands why it's so challenging. “It's really hard to let go. It's hard to delegate. It's hard to allow people from outside the company to make huge strategic decisions on what it should do,” he acknowledges. But Volynets believes there comes a time in every company's journey when leaders have to delegate and formalize systems and structures to support growth.Top Six Masterclass Takeaways Corporate governance goes beyond boards. Volynets defines it quite simply: it's about how companies are directed and controlled. And second, it's when companies have created structured policies that “mean you can take a vacation for three weeks and not be afraid your business will fall apart while you're away.”The stage of your business makes a difference. You don't have to have all your corporate governance structures done on day one. What makes sense for a mature, expanding business is far different than an early stage startup.Don't be afraid to ask for external advice. And the earlier you start thinking about it, the better. It can be formal or informal, but relying on others with expertise you don't have in-house is essential.Build a good management team, too. A good board of directors needs to have a partner in the company beyond the CEO. And realistically, in the early days when resources are strapped, your management team can perform many of the functions you'll later assign to a board. Don't wait to create an organizational chart. While you're focusing on growth, adding people and units, you need to start formalizing your organization's key functions, and what those key functions actually do. And it might just come in handy for succession if one of your key people suddenly leaves. Ease into corporate governance with an advisory board. It can be a great stepping-stone as you formalize governance structures.Listen to Volynets' insights, advice, timing, and strategies for how you can ease into and ultimately formalize and manage a board when the time is right.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Debbie talks with five-time New York Times bestselling author Dan Pink about his latest book: The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. His books have been translated into 42 languages and have sold millions of copies around the world. She met Dan many years ago when she lived in DC and has been a fan ever since she read his first book, Free Agent Nation. That book was one of the first to legitimize solopreneurs and to predict the revolution in the workplace. The premise of his new book is that while many people (especially Americans) proclaim "I have no regrets!" that statement is wrongheaded and, as Dan delights in pointing out, simply not true. We all have regrets and regret is a valuable emotion that can lead us to better understand ourselves and even to live our lives differently. The book is partially based on the results of Dan's World Regret Survey. He read through 15,000 replies from 100+ countries and deduced that there are really only four core regrets.Foundational (If only I'd done the work... )Boldness (If only I'd taken the chance... )Moral (If only I'd done the right thing... )Connection (If only I'd reached out... )Debbie went into this episode thinking that "regret" has a special resonance for those past midlife who may be reflecting on what lies behind them - or what DOESN'T lie behind them - because they didn't do it.But Dan is pretty clear that regretting an inaction - what he defines as a Boldness regret - can come at any age. And that it's never too late to do something about it.Debbie reveals one of her biggest regrets to Dan and he offers some on-air therapy for how she should deal with it.They also talk about Dan's "failure resumé" and what he learned from it.This is an entertaining and informative episode. But it doesn't cover everything in Dan's new book. Be sure to pick up your own copy to learn more about self-disclosing, self-compassion, and self-distancing when it comes to your own regrets; when to "undo" something you did in the past; and the importance of maintaining connections with friends.Mentioned in this episode or useful:DanPink.comThe Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward by Dan Pink (Random House 2022)Dare to Lead (Brené Brown's podcast): Brené With Dan Pink on the Power of RegretA 2-minute preview of his new book (a Pinkcast)World Regret SurveyAll Dan's books: When, To Sell Is Human, Drive, A Whole New Mind, Johnny Bunko, Free Agent Nation@DanielPink on TwitterTHE PINKCASTSubscribe to Dan's newsletterDerek SiversBittersweet: How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole by Susan Cain (Crown 2022)The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better After 50 by Jonathan Rauch (Thomas Dunne Books 2018)Alfred NobelThe Moral Bucket List by David Brooks (The New York Times, April 11, 2015) Note from DebbieIf you've been enjoying the podcast, please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts. Ever listen to Abraham Hick's talk on how you summon the energy that attracts? Every day consciously and unconsciously, we are creating through being. The way you are being right now is making the reality you attract. This means that even when you aren't doing anything, your presence in this world is creating something. Now, if you are like me, who used to struggle with body image and worrying about how others see you, you are also attracting some type of reality that only you have the power to change. Some Energy inside of us is the Doer, which makes decisions; other Energy inside of us nurtures us in the way that we feel protected and supported. When either one of them gets out of balance, we may feel lost, overwhelmed, sad, anxious... Nimisha Mehta is an empowerment coach who empowers everyday women to feel beautiful and comfortable in their skins to manifest love and prosperity in life. She is the creator of the Empress Empowerment Program, where she teaches women to build confidence in the way they dress, how they feel, and all the hidden shadows that stop them from feeling classic, expensive, and consequential.  You can connect with Nimi via her Email at Nimisha_Mehta@hotmail.com
