We’ve told kids for years that effort changes everything. But the biggest review of growth mindset research in decades just found the results are tiny… sometimes nothing at all. So should parents and teachers stop talking about “not yet”? In this Doctor’s Desk episode, Justin and Kylie unpack what the science really says, why the data might be missing the magic, and the simple belief that still changes lives for many children. KEY POINTS A major new review analysed 24 gold-standard studies on growth mindset interventions. The strongest research found very small or zero academic improvement. Real classrooms and real families are far more complex than controlled trials. No study shows growth mindset causes harm. Language, belief, and persistence still influence motivation for many kids. We should be careful about promises — but not abandon hope. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “I don’t want to be the adult who looks at a child and says, ‘You just can’t.’” RESOURCES MENTIONED Gazmuri, C. (2025). Growth mindset interventions and academic achievement. Review of Education. ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Swap limits for possibility: invite effort and exploration. Focus on helping your child stay in the uncomfortable learning zone. Offer support after they’ve tried, not before. Remember: neutral evidence is not negative evidence. Self-love isn't bubble baths and affirmations. It's having the spine to walk away from someone hot but emotionally stunted. It's recognizing that your body screams "yes" while your values whisper "run." Chemistry is a drug. Compatibility is architecture. Most relationships fail because people confuse the two. This episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson covers the conversations people don't want to have, but that won't go away just because they're uncomfortable. We start with the newly released Epstein files and why their implications are being downplayed, rushed past, or deliberately blurred by our government. Then we address the circulating TPUSA / Erika Kirk / Charlie Kirk assassination-related news, breaking down what has actually been reported, what remains unclear, and why responsible people should care about facts, timelines, and accountability (as Candace Owens does). Truth matters, not carefully crafted false narratives.I also speak candidly about Trump's failures because blind loyalty helps no one, and criticism is not betrayal. If leadership is going to demand trust, it has to earn it. Same goes for respect. Finally, because many of you have asked, I address some personal matters: ongoing unwanted attention from men I have clearly and firmly removed from my life, including an individual by the name of Timothy Ronald C. (I will reveal his full legal name publicly if he does not leave me alone) and an ex whose post-NFL career implosions are not my responsibility to manage, nor care about. To be clear: this is not “dragging” solely for entertainment purposes. This is about boundaries I have made (which are very known). I am in a happy, healthy relationship, I have moved on, and these men will never see me again. This episode is about truth, discernment, and refusing to be bullied—politically, culturally, or personally—into silence. This is America, home of the brave and land of the FREE.--https://www.bible.com/

Dr. Michael Gervais has experienced firsthand how human psychology can break down under pressure. As a teenage competitive surfer, the fear of judgment sabotaged his performance, revealing how mental barriers, not physical skills, silently limit confidence and potential. That early insight led him to study psychology and spend over 25 years helping elite athletes, entrepreneurs, and high performers train their minds. In this episode, Dr. Michael shares proven mental skills to overcome fear of other people's opinions, build confidence from within, and unlock peak performance. In this episode, Hala and Dr. Michael will discuss: (00:00) Introduction (01:25) How Mindset Shapes Human Potential (06:48) Why Elite Performance Is Mentally Driven (10:39) How High Performers Train Differently (17:08) Handling Fear in High-Stakes Moments (19:32) Breathing Techniques for Mental Strength (23:25) The Importance of Imagery for Peak Performance (31:38) The Psychology of FOPO and How to Combat It (43:11) Performance-Based vs. Purpose-Based Identity Dr. Michael Gervais is a high-performance psychologist, bestselling author, and host of the Finding Mastery podcast. He has worked with world record holders, Olympians, internationally acclaimed artists and musicians, MVPs from every major sport, and Fortune 100 CEOs to optimize mindset and performance. In this episode, I sit down with CNBC senior correspondent and author, Julia Boorstin, to break down what she discovered after interviewing hundreds of the world's most innovative CEOs. Julia shares why women receive only a fraction of venture capital funding, how “pattern matching” quietly shapes who gets opportunities, and why today's volatile world demands a new kind of leader. We also talk about humility, adaptability, and why dialing down your confidence in moments of crisis can make you a stronger decision-maker. Get ready to rethink the archetype of a CEO and discover the skills that will define the next generation of leaders. In This Episode You Will Learn Why only a FRACTION of funding goes to women. How “PATTERN MATCHING” shapes who gets promoted, funded, and trusted. Why today's leaders need AQ (ADAPTABILITY QUOTIENT) more than ever. When to DIAL DOWN CONFIDENCE to gather better information. How HUMILITY creates smarter and faster decisions in crisis. Why GRATITUDE fuels long-term thinking and better leadership. How to draw out QUIETER VOICES so the best ideas win. Why leadership isn't one ARCHETYPE and NEVER should be. How to build a GROWTH MINDSET that compounds over time. What men and women alike can LEARN from leaders who defy the odds.
