From despair, Nick emerged as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the transformative power of vulnerability and determination. Today, he inspires audiences worldwide with his story of triumph and possibility.Episode Highlights:Recognize the importance of safe spaces: Executive loneliness is a significant issue, especially when individuals feel they have no safe spaces to discuss their challenges internally within their company. Finding external safe spaces through coaches, mentors, or peer groups can be crucial.Proactivity is key: Rather than waiting for internal solutions that may not exist, individuals should take ownership of their situation and actively seek out external support networks. Waiting too long can lead to increased anxiety and even depression.Embrace vulnerability: Leaders should practice vulnerability and empathy, creating a culture where it's safe to share challenges. By being open about personal experiences and struggles, leaders can foster stronger connections within their teams and break down barriers that contribute to isolation.Resilience and perseverance: Building resilience is essential for both individuals and organizations. Leaders should demonstrate resilience through their actions, showing that they can navigate challenges effectively and bounce back from setbacks.Reflect on purpose and hobbies: Encouraging individuals to reflect on their purpose in life and revisit past hobbies can help them find fulfillment outside of work. Engaging in activities that bring joy and connection can contribute to overall well-being and combat feelings of loneliness.Seek help when needed: If feelings of hopelessness, burnout, or depression become overwhelming, it's crucial to seek help and support. There are numerous resources available, including support groups, hotlines, therapy, and counseling, to assist individuals in navigating difficult times and fostering personal growth.Top 3 Takeaways for the Audience:Treat vulnerability like a muscle and actively practice it in your safe spaces. Share your challenges and experiences with trusted individuals to foster connection and growth.Take the initiative to find both professional and personal safe spaces where you can freely discuss work-related and personal matters with like-minded individuals. This can include peer groups, mentors, coaches, or support networks.Use journaling as a tool for reflection and problem-solving. Write down your thoughts and feelings, both positive and painful, and take action by reaching out for help or discussing them with someone you trust. In today's episode of the podcast, I chat with renowned photographer and author Michael Freeman about embracing the artistic journey of photography, where you'll learn to cultivate your creative eye and appreciate the process over the technical. The Big Ideas:Continuous Learning: Embrace lifelong learning to elevate your art. Studying others' works is as crucial as mastering your camera.Creative Experimentation: Forget strict rules. Prioritize creativity to make photos that stand out and reflect your unique perspective. The Power of Surprise: Strive for images with unexpected elements. Predictability is the enemy of interesting photography.Intentionality Wins: Plan your shots with intention, but also leave room for spontaneity. It's about the story you want to tell.Photography Action Plan:Immerse Yourself in the World of Photography: Visit local art galleries or explore online photography exhibitions to discover different styles and techniques.Regularly study the work of various renowned photographers to learn from their compositions and subject matter choices.Practice Intentional Shooting: Before taking your next photo, spend extra time pre-planning the shot, considering aspects like lighting, angle, and composition. After each photoshoot, review your images and note what worked and what didn't, then adjust your approach for next time.Challenge the Rules of Composition: Experiment with breaking conventions such as the rule of thirds; place your subject off-center and see how it affects the impact of your photo. Create a series of photos with unconventional framing or perspective to explore new creative possibilities.Experiment with Black and White Photography: Convert a selection of your images to black and white to see how it changes the mood and focus on textures and contrasts. Practice shooting with the intention of black and white output to hone your attention to light, shadow, and compositional elements.Connect with the Photography Community: Join the BPP group to exchange feedback, share your work, and learn from peers. Attend photography workshops or talks in your area to network, pick up new skills, and stay inspired by what others are doing.Resources:Follow Michael on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/michaelfreemanphotographyCheck out Michaels Collection of Photography Education books on AmazonVisit Michael Freemans WebsiteGrab your free 52 Lightroom Presets athttp://freephotographypresets.com/ Get Back your Family Time and Start Building Your Dream Photography Business for FREE with CloudSpot Studio. And get my Wedding and Portrait Contract and Questionnaires, at no cost!Sign up now at http://deliverphotos.com/Connect with the Beginner Photography Podcast! She's an old-school torch singer for the modern world, funneling her award-winning songwriting chops and genre-spanning influences — including psychedelic rock, Muscle Shoals soul, the pop grandeur of Roy Orbison, and the dark drama of Nick Cave — into six albums that have earned a global audience. Regularly featured on year-end "best of" lists by Rolling Stone, NPR, and The New York Times, Atkins has collaborated with artists from across the musical spectrum, including David Byrne, Chris Isaak, Spoon, Elvis Costello, Tommy Stinson, and the Old 97's. The title track of her major-label debut album won The ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award, and her songs have appeared in prime-time TV shows like Dexter, national ad campaigns for American Express, and on the Billboard charts, with tracks like "Domino" becoming Top 40 AAA hits. A road warrior who has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to Late Night With David Letterman, Atkins is also a professional illustrator and painter whose work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal and No Depression.

Hey Agents! In this episode of our Real Estate Agent Training Series Part 11, let us talk about the essential weekly habits that can significantly impact the success trajectory of any real estate agents, not just for the short term, but for the entire year. Drawing from my 23 years of experience in the industry, including a tenure as a top 1% realtor and author of several best-selling books on real estate strategies, I provide actionable advice that can transform your approach to business. Education emerges as the cornerstone of success. Staying abreast of global and local market trends, utilizing resources like Keeping Current Matters and state realtor associations, is imperative. By understanding the nuances of the market, you empower yourself to make informed decisions and provide valuable insights to clients. Networking takes center stage as well. While digital outreach is crucial, there's no substitute for face-to-face interactions.  Regularly engaging with individuals outside the real estate sphere can lead to fruitful partnerships and collaborations. Attending networking events and broker tours not only expands your professional circle but also enhances your understanding of the market landscape. Consistent communication with potential clients and industry partners is another key aspect. Building and nurturing relationships through regular interaction fosters trust and credibility, essential for long-term success in the real estate business. Lastly, consistency is paramount. Establishing a disciplined routine, including showing up prepared and ready to work every day, sets the stage for sustained growth and achievement. By adhering to these principles, real estate agents can defy industry norms and achieve enduring success. Drawing from personal experience, I can attest to the transformative power of these strategies. By embracing education, networking, communication, and consistency, you can chart a path towards real estate excellence that transcends short-term gains and leads to long-lasting prosperity.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Mediocre EAs: career paths and how do they engage with EA?, published by mikbp on April 11, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. [Let's speak in third person here. Nobody likes to be called mediocre and I'm asking for people's experiences so let's make it (a bit) easier to speak freely. If you give an answer, you can be explaining your situation or that of someone you know.] We all know that EA organizations search for and are full of brilliant (and mostly young) people. But what do EAs that are not brilliant do? Even many brilliant EAs are not able to work in EA organizations (see this post for example), but their prospects to having high impact careers and truly contribute to EA are good. However, most people are mediocre, many are not even able to get 1-1 in 80.000h or other similar help. This is frustrating and may make it difficult to engage for longer with EA. These people have their "normal" jobs, get older, start creating families, time is scarce... and the priority of EA in their life inevitably falls. Regularly meeting is probably far out of reach. Even writing occasional posts in the forum probably demands way too much time --more so knowing that not-super-well-researched-and-properly-written-posts-by-unknown-users usually get down-voted early on making them invisible and so, mostly useless to write. So I'd like to know what is the relationship with "the community" of mediocre EAs, particularly of a bit older ones. How do they exercise their EA muscle? It'd be also cool to have a very short description of their career paths as well. Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to learn more, please visit nonlinear.org

Ours to Protect is a unique and exciting audio project – a collaboration of local and regional broadcasters from across the country who have come together to tackle climate change, champion climate action, and inform and educate audiences all over Ireland about how they can make a difference. Today on ‘Ours To Protect' John Morley talks to Katie Smirnova of Hedgerows Ireland about their letter to the Minister calling for action to stop the spread of Fireblight. Did you know… Fireblight is a highly contagious bacterial disease that wreaks havoc on members of the Rosaceae family, particularly those that produce pome fruits. Fireblight is a serious concern for Ireland, particularly for the horticulture and agriculture sectors. The temperate climate of Ireland is very suitable for the bacteria that causes fireblight, Erwinia amylovora. Fireblight can also enter through infected plant imports, which is a concern as highlighted by recent discussions on importing hawthorn for hedgerow planting. Why is it important stop the spread of fireblight? Fireblight can be incredibly destructive to apple, pear, and quince orchards, which are important agricultural industries in Ireland As previously stated, fireblight poses a threat to native plants like hawthorn, a vital component of hedgerows that provide habitat for wildlife and contribute to biodiversity. Fireblight leaves a scorched appearance on infected plants, making them visually unpleasant. This can be a concern for homeowners, public gardens, and landscapes. What can I do help stop the spread of fireblight? Learning the signs of fireblight is important. The early signs can include blackened leaves, wilted shoots and shepherd's crook branches. Be wary of importing plants, particularly hawthorn, from areas with established fireblight. These plants could be carrying the bacteria. Regularly inspect your plants for signs of fireblight. If you suspect an infection, don't try to treat it yourself. Report it immediately to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). Here's a few websites if you want to know more! Today I mostly just wanted to talk about what happened with the AT& T breach where 70 million current and former customers social security numbers and other personal data was discovered on the dark web last week. Specifically focusing on what it means when this information is found on the dark web, how did it get there, and given the sensitive nature of the information to include social security numbers, what can you do to reduce your impact and prevent misuse of your information. some other urgent news is also out there. I wanted to talk about the backdoor in XZUtils, which is a widely used compression tool in linux, exposing critical vulnerabilities in major distributions like Red Hat, and Debian, and potentially putting countless systems at risks of unauthorized access. AT& T is grappling with a significant data breach impacting over 70 million current and former customers with sensitive information now on the dark web. NPR is reporting that this breach occurred two weeks ago and involved a mix of social security numbers, names, contact details, and AT& T account information. Thank you The company is in the process of notifying the impacted customers, 7 million of which are current customers and the remainder are previous former customers. And they're going to offer identity theft protection, which is likely just identity theft monitoring, but that's become the industry standard. When you get breached, you offer a free subscription to LifeLock or whatever it's called, where they just monitor for new credit cards and notify you. They might provide some other tools, but to me this is unacceptable. They should be offering you cash. There should be a class action lawsuit for every one of these major breaches. A preliminary investigation by AT& T claims that the data that was breached. is from 2019 or earlier and isn't the current data that's in their databases. This would indicate that there was a breach back in 2019, or maybe there was an insider threat that had access to the data from that point. but social security numbers haven't changed since 2019. That's still the same social security number. It might not be directly paired with the same email address you use, but likely it is. And unless your password hygiene is pristine, you probably have the same password maybe used somewhere else. So this information was just found by AT& T on the dark web. They weren't the recipients of a ransom note. They weren't tipped off by a group of attackers or anything like that. They just stumbled upon 70 million records of current and former customers on the dark web. So what does it mean when your information is found on the dark web? Basically like it sounds, somebody had come across the database and they posted to the dark web for sale. Whether or not they used hacking techniques to get into AT& T's admin portals, and pivoted around until they came across all this user data and exfiltrated it. It could just be an insider threat with a USB stick that they pulled out of the office. But all that you need to know is that the information is on the dark web for sale. You are not a personal target when you find out that your information is on there. So don't worry too much. But if you've used the password that has been breached, so the password from your 2019 AT& T account, attackers are going to go buy this database and try every username password combination in a bunch of sites, Facebook, Instagram, Bank of America, USAA, whatever. They're going to try it in there. It's really easy to automate this type of attack called credential stuffing. So like I had mentioned earlier, if your password hygiene is pretty good, most of these breaches are just email addresses and password combinations. So if you're not reusing any passwords, you don't really have anything to worry about. You're just going to want to go in and change the affected site, which in this case is AT& T. But since this one includes social security numbers, first of all, which is pretty crazy for just a regular cable company to have your social security number. But yeah, since this includes social security number, and personal information like email address, phone number, addresses, etc. It's going to be really imperative that you sign up for the identity monitoring, but also you can put freezes on credit checks I did it earlier today, and if you're using a password manager, it took me five minutes to place these freezes on all of them. So basically how that works is you put a freeze with these credit bureaus and all credit checks go through one of these three. Then no one can open a credit card in your name because they can't do a credit check. They can't take out a new line of credit under your name, which is the biggest risk when someone comes across your social security number, so unless you're under an active credit check, like you're in the process of buying a home. or you're in the process of applying for a new credit card, I highly recommend going and placing these freezes. I will place the links to do so in the show notes. You have to create an account at all three of them, and all three will ask you to Answer a security question like what is your mother's maiden name or what was your former address or your first job. This is why using a password manager makes this so easy. Go create a secure note in your password manager with the title of the question. What was the make and model of your first car? Then use your password generator to generate a random string of letters, 60 characters long. Copy. Paste that random string of letters into the answer box and into that secure note and save it. Do not use the correct answer. That's easy to find on Google. And once you've done that for all three of the credit bureaus, saved your username, password, and security questions, in your password manager, you're good to go. Make sure you change your AT& T password, but there's not much risk for you. So when you go to buy in your next house or open your next credit card, you will call the credit company and ask, which bureau do I need to unfreeze? They'll tell you, you go into your account, you unfreeze it, They run the credit check and then you freeze it again. I heard a story of the founder of LifeLock put his social security number on the side of a truck, like a billboard truck in Las Vegas and let anyone who wants it have it because they had placed the freezes on their credit bureaus. What's interesting is when most of these breaches happen, the breached company offers identity monitoring, but they don't actually offer to place these freezes for you. And even though they'll never admit it, that's likely because banks want you to keep your credit open so that you keep opening new lines of credit. They don't want any barriers between you and creating these. So, even though the solution is simple, you won't hear about it too often. Because who owns all the money in the world? Who's the richest? The banks are. And they don't want you to close off your credit. So they're gonna pay whatever it takes to monitor it? Which basically means you'll get a little text message when a credit card is opened. That's a huge headache. Even with the monitoring, someone else opens a credit card in your name. You now have to go through a lot of hoops to get that credit card closed. And then guess what you're going to do. You're going to place a freeze on your credit accounts. Cause you don't want that to happen again. So you might as well get ahead of the curve and place the freeze now. It literally took me less than, I'll say 10 minutes to be generous. Username, password, security question, freeze. Again, username, password, security question, freeze. So I cannot recommend it enough. Last week, researchers have uncovered a malicious backdoor in XZ Utils a compression tool integral to Linux distributions such as Red Hat or RHEL and Debian. The compromised versions 5. 6. 0 and 5. 6. 1 pose a significant threat, although they have not been incorporated into any major Linux distributions production releases. Luckily, the backdoor's early detection prevented widespread impact. But we still need continuous monitoring and swift action in the face of potential vulnerabilities. The backdoor is designed to break SSH authentication, allowing unauthorized system access. So, First steps are to check what version of XZUtils you're using. If it's 5. 6. 0 or 5. 6. 1, you can consider it compromised. Use a package manager, to check the version that you have running. If it is a compromised version, you can downgrade to a safe version or update to a newer patched version as soon as it becomes available. Recommend downgrading while you wait for that new patched version. It's also a good idea to increase the monitoring on systems for unusual SSH activity. You can watch for anomalies in authentication logs, which can help detect potential exploitation attempts. Regularly audit SSH access and keys to ensure that only authorized users have access. It's also good practice to use SSH key based authentication instead of password based authentication where possible. This is a pretty big one though. It carries a CVE score of 10. 0, which is the maximum score. So don't bat an eye at this. If there's anything you can do, do it. I know most of our hands are tied when it comes to, enterprise things like this, but yeah, this one's pretty big. That's all I got for you today. Happy April Fool's Day! I wish these stories were pranks, unfortunately they're real. But I hope you have a great week and we will talk to you some more tomorrow.

Fashion Besties!!  As your favorite personal stylist and the best fashion friend you never knew you needed, I'm about to dish out some tough love on the fashion crimes lurking in your closet. P.S.: Don't forget to download, subscribe, and leave a review for the Fashion Crimes Podcast. As always, send to someone you know who needs some fashion help! Key Fashion Crimes in Your Closet That Can Hold You Back   1. Cheap Clothing: Clothes that are see-through, clingy, and look worse for wear after one wash aren't doing you any favors. That bargain bin find might seem like a steal, but if it's showing every bump and lump, it's stealing your style instead. Opt for well-made pieces that flatter and last.   2. Shopping Backwards: When your shopping mantra is 'low price above all', you end up with a closet full of compromises, not clothes you love. Instead, focus on the perfect fit and quality that elevates your look. Sometimes, spending a bit more upfront saves you from a closet full of 'nothing to wear'. #TRUTH   3. Sale Rack Frenzy: We've all felt the thrill of the deal, but panic shopping in the sales section often leads to fashion missteps. Those items often end up unworn, with tags intact, living in the closet's shadowy corners. Break the cycle by shopping for what you need and love, not just because it's on sale.    4. Gift Clothing Guilt: From the ill-fitting sweater from your mother-in-law to the off-trend handbag gifted by a well-meaning friend, it's time to let it go. Direct your dear ones towards what you'd truly cherish which is suggestions of things that you actually want.   Your wardrobe should be a reflection of you, not a collection of others' tastes. #YYYAAASSS   5. Wrong-Size Wardrobe: Clothes that don't fit, be they too loose or snug, are relics of the past or wishes for the future. They can be psychologically cumbersome, implying you might revert to a former size. Celebrate your current shape by curating a wardrobe that fits and flatters you right now. Dress for the body you have today.    6. Ancient Attire: Even if it still fits, that decade-old dress likely doesn't reflect your current style or life. Our clothes should evolve with us, ensuring our wardrobe isn't stuck in a time warp. Regularly refresh your style to keep your look current and confident. Don't wait 10 or 15 years to shop. Then you're stuck in a style rut.    7. Sentimental Stockpile: Letting go of past purchases can be tough, especially when they're tied to memories or a significant cost. Use the backward hanger method to see what you're actually wearing. If it hasn't seen daylight in a year, it's time for it to serve someone else's story. #DONATE   Join me next week for more style wisdom and wardrobe rehab. Until then, stay fabulous, stay stylish, and tackle that closet with confidence. Remember, you deserve the best wardrobe the universe has to offer... DON'T SETTLE and make sure your clothes bring you up, not down.    - Holly Katz Personal Stylist, Podcast Host and Best-Selling Author   Get in Touch:   Have a fashion query or want to suggest a topic? Footwear And Fall Protection On today's podcast, we'll be talking about footwear and fall protection. So - stay tuned. You can find the show notes to each episode, links to the information mentioned on the podcast, the social media platforms we're on, and anything else related to the podcast at WarehouseSafetyTips.com. If you're a seasoned Podcast Listener, this podcast will be different from most you listen to.  It's based on exactly what the name implies - Warehouse Safety Tips.  And since the people in that industry are busy - we know time is money so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible. And now that all that is out of the way - let's get to the Podcast! Footwear And Fall Protection In the industrial sectors of factories and warehouses, ensuring the safety and well-being of employees should ALWAYS be top of mind. Adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) guidelines helps maintain a secure working environment and boosts productivity and morale among workers. Keeping with the topic of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) there are 2 areas Safety Managers need to focus on: footwear and fall protection. Here are five tips that align with OSHA's guidelines to mitigate risks and protect workers. Number One:  Conduct Thorough Hazard Assessments for Footwear Requirements Every workplace is unique, making site-specific safety footwear essential. Conduct a comprehensive hazard assessment to identify potential risks, such as falling objects, sharp objects, or electrical hazards, and determine the appropriate type of footwear required for safety. This approach ensures that the chosen footwear provides the necessary protection against the identified risks, aligning with OSHA's emphasis on tailored safety solutions. Number Two:  Implement Comprehensive Fall Protection Plans Recognizing the many risks associated with working at elevations, OSHA mandates that anyone working above 4 feet must be provided with and use fall protection equipment. This includes maintenance workers, not just those on "man-up" lifts or retrieving elevated loads. A comprehensive fall protection plan must detail the proper equipment, machinery, and training for all employees potentially exposed to elevated risks, ensuring a holistic approach to fall safety. Number Three:  Invest in Quality Safety Footwear Given the crucial role of footwear in preventing workplace injuries, investing in quality safety shoes or boots that meet OSHA standards is vital. This means selecting footwear that offers adequate protection against specific hazards identified in the hazard assessment. Features include slip-resistant soles, puncture-resistant materials, and proper support and comfort to minimize worker fatigue. Number Four:  Regular Training and Drills on Fall Protection Proper training on using fall protection equipment is as crucial as the equipment itself. Regularly scheduled training sessions and drills ensure all employees know how to use, inspect, and maintain their equipment correctly. This complies with OSHA regulations and fosters a culture of safety and preparedness among workers. Number Five:  Continuous Monitoring and Updating of Safety Measures Safety in the workplace is an ongoing process. To adapt to new hazards or changes in work processes, regularly review and update your safety measures, including footwear requirements and fall protection plans. Engaging with employees for feedback and conducting periodic safety audits are effective strategies to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines. As with ALL our tips - make sure to follow the rules and guidelines of your specific facility. Prioritizing safety through appropriate footwear and rigorous fall protection measures is essential in factories and warehouses. By following these OSHA-aligned tips, employers can create a safer, more productive work environment that protects their most valuable asset: their employees. Thank you for being part of another episode of Warehouse Safety Tips. Until we meet next time - have a great week, and STAY SAFE! Before moving on - here's a word from one of our sponsors. Hey Team! With us today is Mattia Maurée and we're going to be diving into the experiences of living with both autism and ADHD, also known as AuDHD. I was recently on Mattia's podcast, AuDHD Flourishing, to talk about subclinical autism (which I was diagnosed with in 2022) so if you want to hear more about that head on over to their show, links in the shownotes. In our conversation today, Mattia shared their story and the insights they've gained through their journey. Our conversation aimed to shed light on the similarities, differences, and unique challenges faced by individuals navigating both conditions. And just for a little background on the connection of ADHD and autism, we do see quite a lot of this comorbid condition, with about 50% of people diagnosed with autism also getting an ADHD diagnosis (and just as a note, that percentage doesn't go the other way because of the difference in population sizes, there are a lot more people with ADHD than those diagnosed with autism). Also interesting to note that before 2013 the DSM didn't allow for a dual diagnosis of autism and ADHD. And that just gives a little insight into how recently the idea of the two of them being intertwined became and because of that there aren't a ton of resources out there for AuDHD individuals. So I hope this episode can help start bridging more of that gap.Be sure to check out Mattia's Podcast AuDHD FlourishingSign up for my Newsletter Any And All DistractionsFeel free to ask me a question on my Contact PageFind the full show note at HackingYourADHD.com/174This Episode's Top Tips Monotropism is our tendency to narrow our focus and is a characteristic of both ADHD and autism and can lead us to miss things outside of this attention tunnel.
