Let's talk about 10 good practice tips when using Git. Podcast Notes: PHP News: Swoole is a PHP extension that has been forked due to on going security concerns. The current version of Swoole downloads a compressed file from the business Swoole site which is NOT GOOD! This file is a gzip file which is downloaded to your application. Apparently many attempts were made to raise this concern with the current maintainer of Swoole but nothing happened. After these concerns were un-heard the PHP community decided to fork Swoole and remove the ability to run remote code from the Swoole business site. The forked alternative is called Open Swoole. We love our pets and often express this by giving them extra portions or treats we know they enjoy. But there is a health crisis sweeping the global pet population, and if we allow our pets to continue to gain weight then their life will be cut short by as much as 2 years.Meet Edie and her human Kelly, and find out how their weight loss journey could mark the turning point in your pet's health and happiness.Pet Obesity Awareness Month[1:55] The single most important thing you can do for your dog or cat's future health, happiness, and lifespan is to keep them at a healthy, lean body weight.[2:56] It can be complicated for many overweight pets to follow through on a weight loss program once they admit there is a weight issue.Edie and Edna's Story[04:33] After Edie was spayed, Kelly noticed a change in her appetite and difficulty feeling satisfied for more extended periods. It ultimately led to an increase in body weight.Edie's Weight Loss Journey[5:15] Kelly was initially confident in her ability to manage the situation on her own. Consuming less food equals losing weight. This approach, unfortunately, did not work.[6:57] The final straw was a visit to the veterinarian. Edie was at her heaviest weight of 14.4kg. At this stage, a change of diet was suggested and although Kelly was sceptical Edie starting this weight loss diet.[9:06] Kelly was willing to go to any length once the strategy began to work and showed promising outcomes. Edie lost a large amount of weight, and dropped from 14.4kg to 9.4kg.Tracking your pet's food intake[11:53] The amount of food to be fed can be determined in two ways. Using a scale is best to weigh out each meal. The other is to use a measuring cup.[12:59] Instead of giving treats, Kelly uses Edie's food as treats and keeps track of how much she feeds throughout each session.Kelly's Advice[13:29] Don't be offended when your vet talks about your pet's weight[14:52] The result of weight loss was that Edie was more animated, playful, and agile; she moved differently and appeared younger and healthier.[22:50] Regularly weight your pet and keep a track of their previous weights so you can spot trends, as well as help keep motivated during a weight loss programFor more details, weight loss tips, and all the links mentioned in today's show head over to https://ourpetshealth.com/podcast/dog-weight-loss-journey

With over 20 years of software experience, Ryan Glushkoff provides pricing and product marketing expertise for business-to-business (B2B) software companies. This includes offer packaging, pricing, market research, and pricing strategy and organization. Prior to founding Fraction8, Ryan cut his teeth in both the pre-sales and post-sales world for both mass-marketing and custom-enterprise software companies, which gives him a unique perspective on how SaaS companies need to price and market themselves for success. In this episode, Ryan shares what important data set his qualitative and quantitative interviews and surveys uncover to arrive at a pricing decision.   Why you have to check out today's podcast: Find out the three types of competitive research you can use to understand your competitors' offer structure so you come up with the right pricing decision Learn about what different companies are using in their pricing structure Find out what is of utmost reason for putting your price online   “Pricing is a team sport. All of those different groups need to be part of the decision. So, it's incumbent upon the product team to steward the rest of the organization through that decision making process.” - Ryan Glushkoff   Topics Covered: 01:36 - What he does as a B2B technology pricing consultant 03:32 - Doing qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys 04:17 - Aha moments when it comes to clients saying what they claim customers value versus what customers say they value 05:16 - Important data points uncovered with qualitative and quantitative interviews 05:57 - What is competitive research and its different types 07:44 - Times when you consider pricing as part science and part art 08:46 - Going the same pricing metric as the competitor versus charging with better options 09:56 - Sharing his concern about using different pricing metrics 10:38 - Perpetual license of moving to SaaS 11:23 - Touching on usage-based pricing 12:43 - Outcome-based pricing being a version of user-based pricing 13:47 - PayPal and tollbooth pricing 14:41 - Are Lyft and Uber subscription-based companies 15:06 - Price structure of AWS and how it's different from Uber 18:48 - Regularly buying diet Coke compared to subscription-based 19:37 - What he thinks of putting pricing online 21:42 - When it's not proper to pricing online 23:28 - His thoughts to a recommendation of putting a price range versus none at all 24:35 - Which way to go -- put price online or not 26:14 - When do companies miss part of their pricing research 26:44 - Where should pricing lives in a company 30:24 - How pricing is screaming for a center of excellence type of approach 31:58 - His best pricing advice that can have a great impact on one's business 32:27 - Does he actually ask, ‘What are you willing to pay' 33:33 - Mark's answer to Ryan's question on why he asks, ‘What are you willing to pay'   Key Takeaways: “Competitive research is something that is really good to know, but since every company has their own unique value proposition that they bring to market, just copying a competitor, you're probably leaving something on the table by doing that, or you're selling yourself short.” - Ryan Glushkoff “If you'd ask which side of the fence I would come on, or land on for, whether to put your pricing online or not, I would err on the side of putting it online. The idea of maintaining positive control of the sales conversation is paramount. Especially if you do your homework and you're confident in the research that you've done that informs the value of your solution, the price that people are willing to pay.” - Ryan Glushkoff “I really think it [Pricing] should live in the product organization because the product owner is really the CEO of the product; the product team has the deepest understanding of the problems that the buyer and the user are facing. They have the deepest understanding of how to go about solving those problems, through the features and capabilities that the solution is offering.”  - Ryan Glushkoff   People/Resources Mentioned: PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/ph/home Lyft: https://www.lyft.com/ Uber: https://www.uber.com/tw/en/ AWS: https://aws.amazon.com/   Connect with Ryan Glushkoff: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/glushkoff/ Email: glushkoff@gmail.com   Connect with Mark Stiving:  Email: mark@impactpricing.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stiving/

This episode is one you don't want to miss! With kids returning to school, we could all use a little help in establishing, or reestablishing, routines that work for our family. In today's podcast, Parenting Coach, Kimber Petersen shares practical tips families can use to reduce stress and frustration regarding back-to-school routines, including opening up the lines of communication better and teaching them responsibility through family meetings. Kids thrive on routines. They feel safe when they know what they should do—having patterns that work builds trust and strengthens relationships. When establishing routines, it's vital to look at both the needs of the family and what is realistic. The worst thing you can do is to develop practices that create more issues and problems.  Establishing routines should be a collaboration between you and your child. When children have a say in routines, they are more likely to follow expectations. Having them create routines is a great way to help them learn critical thinking skills and responsibility. Regularly evaluate routines to determine if they are working. Don't be afraid to make adjustments if practices aren't working.

In today's episode of the As Told by Nomads Podcast, join me and Stacey A. Gordon as we talk about how you can approach the unconscious biases in yourself and in your organization. As a woman of color, the main reason why Stacey wrote the book UNBIAS: Addressing Unconscious Bias at Work was because she lived it. Being a subject that is personally close and familiar to her ever since she was young, Stacey expounds why biases aren't easily handled by many, how it exists, and how not to approach it. Tune in and join our discussion on how you can get unbiased in this episode!Where can biases take you?Stacey believes there is no such thing as one person with not one bias. Each individual will have some type of prejudice in one way or another because of what makes them up as beings. Where you grew up, your culture, your family, your education, and others can all contribute to what composes your bias. Biases can also then motivate other things. One case is what happened to Stacey and her former childhood friend. When they were young, Stacey would always hang and bike around with this boy-neighbor. Regularly, Stacey would wait for this boy so that they could play or ride bikes. Until one time, Stacey waited very long. While on her bike, she stayed longer than usual outside of the boy's house. When her friend finally greeted her outside, he told her that his mom said they could no longer be friends because she was black. And just like that, Stacey no longer had a friend. This experience is an example of where biases can come from and lead to.Outline of the episode:[02:32] Why did Stacey write a book about unconscious biases?[06:01] Empowered minorities create more equity.[08:27] There is a rush to be reactive and performative.[12:02] When addressing biases in your organization, how do you start?[18:33] How can you make a business or a career shift out of your lived experiences?[21:08] Honor your passion, but also honor your soul.[25:29] Your bias shields you from the alienating experiences of other people.[28:05] This is not my place.[33:23] Education on unconscious biases is an awareness builder.[37:26] There is never just 'one' best candidate for the job. How to Reduce Dog Shedding

The Perfect Pup

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 14, 2021 9:28

Trying to reduce dog shedding is... an eternal struggle. If you have a short-haired dog (or almost any dog for that matter), shedding is part of the dog parent experience! And no, you cannot stop a dog from shedding. Period. It's not possible. If you find any type of product or supplement that claims to stop shedding, avoid it! In this episode, I'm going to break down 3 main things you can do to reduce your dog's shedding. #1- Coat Health Dog shedding is natural but ensuring your pup's coat health is in top shape can reduce shedding. Make sure your dog's getting enough Omega's in their diet or with an added supplement. Our dog's overall nutrition and health affect shedding in many ways! #2- Brush Regularly How often you need to brush your dog will depend on the breed, but most dogs should be brushed at least a couple of times per week. For some dogs, it may need to be done more frequently. Regularly brushing helps to pull out the loose hair from your dog's coat. While you may not see dramatic results right away, consistency will help reduce your dog's shedding. #3- Bathing Routine A consistent bathing routine can also help to reduce how much your dog sheds! If you're dealing with a LOT of shedding, It's important to use a shampoo that can aid in reducing shedding. I have two Labrador Retrievers who shed more than you can imagine. And above all, the thing that has helped the most with their shedding is Sudsy. It's an all-natural shampoo bar with a combination of ingredients that seriously help reduce shedding. My dog Scout sheds off so much more of her coat when we use Sudsy for baths. You can check out Sudsy (available in 2 scents) here: https://pfrd.site/sudsy-here The other important part of a healthy bathing routine is to blow dry your dog. It's best to use a dog-specific blow dryer if possible. The high-powered vacuums work to clear out as much loose hair and undercoat as possible. If you want to use a normal hairdryer, be sure to do it on warm or cool and not on hot. The high heat can cause damage to your dog's coat. And the 3rd step of a successful de-shedding bath routine must include brushing your dog. That last step of brushing will help pull out any final hairs still waiting to be shed. So your bathing routine should consist of the following. -Use a shampoo formulated to reduce shedding -Dry dog completely, preferably with a dog-specific hairdryer -Completely brush your dog out Following that routine has reduced my dog's shedding more than anything else! Bonus Tip- Treatments at the Groomer If you have an extreme shedder in your house, it could be worth taking your pup into a groomer for a full de-shedding. Prices will vary depending on where you live, but it's likely only something you'll need to do a couple of times each year. Personal Life-Hack: Get a Robot Vacuum This isn't necessarily going to reduce shedding, but investing in a robot vacuum is a life-saver in a house with dogs. There are models that cover a huge price range (some starting at $99) but even something simple will help reduce how frequently you need to sweep/vacuum. Our robot vacuum is one of the most important things we have in our home, thanks to two Labrador Retrievers. Please review and subscribe!! Thanks for listening

Build a team of likeminded people, look for each person's superpower and tap into it. Seek out people with skills that complement others on the team. We owe our best to the animals every time. Set that standard for yourself. Find the gaps in your community, and figure out what's needed to close those gaps. But there is one contributing factor that's easy to fix — update the Electoral Count Act (ECA), a law passed in 1887 that spells out Congress' role in counting the Electoral College votes every four years. But, despite having clear legislative intent at the time, the ECA is ambiguous, out of date, and contributed to the electoral chaos that we saw this year.In episode 31, Weston talks with two experts on the Electoral Count Act about how this arcane legislation came to be, how it gave rise to confusion and misinterpretation about Congress' role in the 2020 presidential election, and why Congress must update it now.Guests:Genevieve Nadeau, Counsel at Protect DemocracyMatthew Seligman, Special Counsel at Campaign Legal Center To learn more about Democracy Matters, another show in the Democracy Group podcast network, visit: https://www.democracygroup.org/shows/democracy-matters

It's easy to lose focus when working in a chaotic industry like real estate. But Jimmy's ten fundamentals of real estate success will help you grow your business, even if you don't do anything else. And that's what he's going to discuss in today's episode.     Have a clear and concise set of goals   To find achievable results, you need simple goals to understand, have a timeframe, and a way to be measured.     Be the market expert.   As a real estate agent, you should know the average sales price in your area, the average amount of time inventory is on the market, the change in inventory over time, and everything else that shows you know what you're talking about.     Have a lead generation strategy   Leads are the lifeblood of your business. Whether circle prospecting, open houses, or whatever your process may be, you need to have some strategy in place to generate a consistent flow of potential new clients.     Lead follow up plan of action   You have the leads. But what are you doing to move them from a lead to a client? Have strategies in place to automatically send helpful and quality information pertinent to them.     Have real estate-related conversations.   Talk to new and diverse people daily. The more people you talk to, the more likely you'll have a prospect turn into a client.     Build and communicate with your database   Your database is everything in this business. Building a database with past clients you communicate with regularly will ensure you stay top of mind. These individuals are likely not looking to buy or sell at the time. But when they are, you'll be the first person they call.     Regularly communicate with past clients.   The industry average tells us 88-90% of people want to work with their agent again, but only 13% do. That's because there isn't communication after the conclusion of the initial sale. Interact with past clients regularly, whether through email, social media, or in-person.     Build relationships   The real estate market is no longer a purely transactional industry - it's about building relationships. Being an involved member of the community and building relationships will help you find more people to work with.     Rewarding referrals   Encourage people to refer you by sending a hand-written note, small gift, anniversary card, or tickets to events.     Focus on sellers   In the current market, it is effortless to find a buyer. But the business is built on listings - buyers will come to you if you have the listings they want.   Evaluate each of these criteria and divide up your time to best accomplish everything you can. Once you have these ten strategies in place you can't help but grow your business.   Connect with Jimmy Burgess on LinkedIn and Facebook, as well as his YouTube channel.   If you like what you heard today, we'd love it if you'd share a rating or review and then subscribe to the podcast and tell others about it as well. Now on to today's show notes This week is Stand Up with Pete Dominick LITE.  I am on vacation with my family this week for the first time since the Summer of 2019 but I will be still be posting new content every day. Today's guest is one of my oldest and closest friend's who also just happens to be is one of Australia's most popular entertainers. David Campbell is a multi-platinum selling recording artist, Campbell has featured on TV, starred in theatre and cabaret, recorded three Top Ten albums, and sold out concert tours from coast to coast. He has a unique legacy as not just one of Australia's leading musical theatre stars, but also one of the few local performers to have achieved similar success in New York. Born and raised in Adelaide, David was drawn to the performing arts - initially as an actor. He was performing at the STC and Sydney Opera House by the age of 22, and in 1997 starred in a major revival of Les Miserables in Sydney. Shortly after this, Campbell moved to New York, where his downtown cabaret show attracted major crowds. Due to what Time Out New York described as “the biggest buzz since Barbra Streisand”, Campbell moved his show to the iconic cabaret room Rainbow & Stars, becoming the youngest performer ever to headline the venue. With this success as a launch pad, Campbell was soon in demand from Broadway's most prestigious writers and directors. Stephen Sondheim cast him in the New York premiere of his musical Saturday Night, and he played leading roles in shows like Babes In Arms (at the Lincoln Center), and South Pacific. In 2001, at the height of his New York success, Campbell was tempted back to Australia by the role of a lifetime - ‘the wild one' Johnny O'Keefe, in the musical phenomenon Shout! He toured Australia in the show for over a year, and became a household name as a result. Campbell went on to star in Australian productions of classic musicals like Carousel and Company, new works at the MTC and STC, and even in Pirates of Penzance for Opera Australia. Along the way, he picked up a Helpmann Award for Best Actor, for his 2005 role in Sunset Boulevard. Campbell established himself quickly as one of the country's biggest-selling recording artists. His albums The Swing Sessions (2006), The Swing Sessions 2(2007), and Good Lovin' (2008) all hit the Top Ten and achieved platinum sales. He has also mounted no fewer than five sell-out concert tours - for which he has received a further two Helpmann Awards. In 2009, his live concert DVD Good Lovin' Live hit number one on the ARIA chart. David's album success included David Campbell On Broadway and the release of the album was complimented by the specially commissioned television documentary David Campbell On Broadway, produced by Luckiest Productions. A mixture of Broadway history, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage of the album recording, the documentary was broadcast on the STVDIO Channel on Foxtel. Regularly performing in the USA as a headlining artist at G'Day LA, Campbell has also acted as MC and headlined at G'Day NY on several occasions. In recent years Campbell's position in the Australian entertainment industry expanded with his appointment as Artistic Director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival (the largest cabaret festival in the world), and the success of Luckiest Productions, the production company he runs with his wife, Lisa. Luckiest Productions now produces national tours and live theatre at the new Hayes Theatre in Potts Point.  The first production at the Hayes Theatre, Sweet Charity, recently enjoyed a sell out season, critical acclaim and 8 x Helpmann Award Nominations. A highly sought after master of ceremonies, David has hosted many events for numerous corporate and charitable organisations.  He has recently been appointed as an Ambassador for the Starlight Foundation and regularly supports Dr Charlie Teo's Cure For Life Foundation at numerous events nationally. David also co-hosted the 2013 Carols By Candlelight telecast for the Nine Network with Lisa Wilkinson. Campbell is a founding member of Independent Music Theatre, the group of producers behind the Hayes Theatre Co., a venue in Potts Point devoted to musicals and cabaret.  It opened in January 2014 and has quickly established itself as a venue of productions of exceptional quality - winning a recent poll as Australia's favourite theatre. Currently, David is a regular weekend announcer on Smooth FM for the DMG Network, is the co-host of Today Extra for the Nine Network in Australia and was recently nominated for Most Popular New Talent at the 2013 Logie Awards.   Campbell returned to the studio last year to record a brand new album, David Campbell sings John Bucchino. The album was released on 13 June in conjunction with a tour throughout the month. The tipping point seems to have arrived in this country when it comes to living with a large segment of the population that either has not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 or is refusing to: the state of California has just ordered all state workers to either get vaccinated or submit to regular, routine COVID tests. This comes after 55 health associations have called for making COVID vaccines mandatory for every healthcare worker in the country. So we'll go In Depth on the growing vaccine mandates, with the likes of Congresswoman Maxine Waters and LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell. The Delta variant isn't only running wild in human beings: there's news this weekend out of the San Diego Zoo that a snow leopard there has tested positive for COVID, we'll get more details on that. And add this to the growing list of pandemic-induced shortages: there's a jet fuel shortage at several airports in the Western United States, but it's not that there isn't enough fuel available--it's a lack of trucks and drivers. Today we look to the ancient technologies of indigenous ecosystems to provide guidance for the future (and survival) of humanity in the face of climate change.    We are thrilled to welcome designer, activist, academic, and author, Julia Watson to SOUNDFOOD. Julia is a leading expert in the field of Lo—TEK nature-based technologies for the built environment and climate-resilient design. Her bestselling book with Taschen, Lo-TEK: Design by Radical Indigenism has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Monocle, Architectural Digest, and more. Regularly teaching at Harvard and Columbia University, Julia's studio work involves landscape and urban design, along with public speaking and consulting with brands on sustainability. In her studio, she  collaborates with a horticulturist as Watson Salembier, with a focus on rewilding, and has just completed the summer gardens for Rockefeller Center using a native plant palette inspired by the American meadow.    Julia has written for Topos, Landscape Architecture Frontier, ioARCH, Kerb, Water Urbanisms East and co- authored A Spiritual Guide to Bali's UNESCO World Heritage. She's a 2020 TED speaker, and a fellow of Summit  REALITY, Pop!tech, & The Christensen Fund. Born in Australia, she regularly treks across the globe.    Above all, Julia is a master observer. In today's conversation, she reflects on the greater understanding that has been revealed to her through her explorations of Earth's  sacred spaces- what makes them sacred, who makes them sacred, and whether those experiences can be recreated in design. Her combination of extensive research and awareness of natural processes has resulted in the most visually stunning, nutrient dense, empowering,  design forward book we could dream of.    Julia possesses an exquisitely comprehensive view of the world, with attention to both the micro and macro,  she has dedicated herself to applying critical thinking  and understanding of indigenous ingenuity to the design of  modern, climate resilient technologies. Through her eyes and mind, we have a glimpse into the ways that global communities have interactacted synergistically  with nature for millenia.  Watson invites us all to reflect on what we can learn from the past and present to envision  what a Lo—TEK future could behold.    Thank you Julia for sharing your wisdom, insights, and vision with us!   Where to find Julia: JuliaWatson Julia's Instagram   Books Mentioned In This Episode: Lo―TEK. As Julia says, being cooked for by someone you love- and who loves you- is an incredibly powerful thing. Whether it's a cup of tea made by a parent or truly a last meal made by a loving partner, what makes it so deeply engaging is that it's accompanied by the people who you love and who give you love in return.

The right and wrong people to ask for property investment advice with Brett Warren

When planning to invest in property, people tend to think about “where should I buy, what should I buy, how much can I afford?” But often they don't think about “who should I ask for advice?” Since investing in property is a significant financial and personal decision, it's really important to make wise decisions, and it's really important to get good advice early in the piece, because getting it wrong can result in significant financial loss, emotional stress, and a huge lost opportunity. And if you're in the middle of your property investment journey, it's still critical to ask for advice to make sure you're heading in the right direction. So, who do you ask for advice? And with so many mixed messages and vested interests out there, who can you really trust? Well, that's the topic I discuss today with Brett Warren, National Director of Metropole Properties and I hope at the end of the today's show, you'll have more clarity in your options and who you can ask for advice, and what you can and can't expect from your advisors. And of course, I will also share my regular mindset message with you. Who Do You Ask for Property Advice? Our property markets are booming at present but we know that now all markets will perform the same over the long term. So as a property investor who do you turn to when looking for advice? A better question may be - with so many mixed messages and vested interests, who can you really trust? Who investors could turn to for property advice: No One— many beginning investors make this mistake. They think they already understand the market. Friends or family— People do this for understandable reasons, but unless you have millionaires in your family, it's probably a bad idea. A real estate agent— It's important to remember, agents work for the vendor selling the property, not you. A mortgage broker— Brokers are helpful in the finance areas, but not experts on investment-grade properties An accountant— You should talk to an accountant! But about things like tax matters and structuring, not the property market. Financial planners— Financial planners sell financial products, but most are not able to advise on real estate. A property marketer— These are salespeople who really selling “product” for a property developer who is most likely going to make the biggest profit out of the deal. Investment seminars and workshops— Is the person leading the seminars an actual expert who made their money in the market? Or do they only make money by teaching others? It's an important question. A property mentor —It's important to have mentors. Just be careful who you choose and ensure they have achieved the results you want to achieve. A buyer's agent— These can be a great help in selecting the right property, but they don't devise a plan that takes into account your family's future needs and your risk profile. A property strategist – Someone who can help you grow, protect and pass on your wealth using property as a vehicle. What a good property strategist can do for you: Get to know their clients' hopes and fears to help them achieve their long-term financial goals. Help remove his client's anxiety by simplifying the complex. Develop a long-term relationship with the client and help them see several steps ahead. Recommend proven strategies that have always worked. Offer a list of potential property options and refer their clients to a buyer's agent who is part of their team. Help their clients select an investment property that is the highest and best use of their funds. Help clients avoid big mistakes. Provide perspective, insights, and often optimism. They will also advise their clients to invest their money the way they do themselves. Regularly and objectively assess the performance of their property portfolio Some things a property advisor can't really do: Predict the future. Find the next hot spot for you. Pick the best time to purchase an investment property. 4. Help you get rich quickly or achieve extraordinarily high returns without taking on extra risks. It's just too hard to do it on your own.” – Michael Yardney “A property advisor should actually be part of your long-term journey. 4 Ways to Lean into Your Fears and Increase Your Success

The Accountability Coach: Business Acceleration|Productivity

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 1, 2021 8:15

At first glance, you may feel you have nothing to fear. You may be in a highly successful business, or you may be weathering a storm that is tough but under control. The truth is, though, we all fear something, and fear in any form is what holds us back from reaching new heights. If you want to do more, be more, have more, and achieve more than you are currently, then it is time to assess what is holding you back and find ways to lean into that fear, so it dissolves into success. Some of the most intense professions around the world – especially positions held by first responders – set an incredible example for what it looks like to face fears and run headlong toward a problem. Think about a police officer; when they hear gun shots, they run toward the sound looking to engage with the source. Consider firefighters also; they run toward the fire to put it out as quickly as possible. The same is true of snow ski experts; to be a great skier, you have to lean forward, which is incredibly counter-intuitive. Likewise, motorcyclists lean into each turn to maximize their centrifugal force, not the other way around. Erik Weihenmayer is an incredible example of what it looks like to live uninhibited by fear. As a blind man, many people encouraged him to play it safe in life; to be content with his limitations. But Erik decided that life was too short to live in fear, and so he set out on what has turned into a decades-long search for adventure and meaning. He has climbed Mt. Everest, summited countless other peaks, and spoken to businesses, sports teams, and even schools on the value of struggle and setting stretch goals – audacious, scary goals that stretch you into achieving more than you ever thought possible. In a blog post he wrote, “Ama Dablam (a peak he summited) is no more special than any other mountain or goal. The simple fact is that completing this climb added meaning to my life; the same way that completing a triathlon, raising money for a local nonprofit, or losing weight might for someone else. I set a goal and worked to accomplish it – the mountain is a vehicle for building value in my life. What matters when choosing a goal is to first find the deeper vision that gives that goal purpose, and then allow ourselves the time and energy to pursue it.” So, what can you learn from this? Your business success depends on your ability to navigate fears and obstacles in your path. Toss limiting beliefs that may be holding you back to the curb, and intentionally lean into your goals, so that you are 100% committed to having your best year ever – whatever that looks like for you. Stretch goals should inspire you. Stretch goals should get you laser-focused on only those activities that will help you achieve your goals. By being intentional, you will maximize your valuable time and accomplish more in the process. Consider leaning into your business-related fears by tackling one or more of the 4 ideas I'm going to share, so you can increase your business success and enjoy your ideal business and ideal life. 1. Ask for Referrals Instead of just meekly asking for referrals from your clients and hoping to get one or two, ask with boldness and intention, expecting to hit the mother lode each and every time. You do an excellent job for your clients and they should be eager to tell everyone about you and your products and/or services. If they aren't, what can you do even better, different, or not do for them? To download my complimentary referral tracking spreadsheet to help you increase your revenue, so you can accelerate your results, go to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/referral-tracking-workbook. 2. Be on a Mission Lean into your fears by identifying areas of strengths and weakness, and then creating a goal-based roadmap for how you want to enrich those areas. Create an action-based mission statement that serves to drive your company forward; one that everyone on your team can get behind and work toward. Regularly review your business metrics and know where you are at against your annual goals every week. What are your weekly activities that you must do to move the company forward? Are you doing those activities each week? Be on a mission to hit your goals every single week, so you have the highest probably of achieving your annual goals. 3. Create Targeted Financial Forecasts Calling prospective clients, even those who have been referred to you, may cause you to tense up with fear of rejection. But if you never take risks, you will never reap big rewards! It is true, not all prospects will be happy you called them, but it is vital to remember that some will be. Focus on potential positive outcomes and live for those successful calls no matter how unpleasant the others might be. 4. Find a Power Partner We become like who we surround ourselves with. Just as Erik Weihenmayer has chosen to surround himself with people that empower his sense of adventure and help him achieve his goals, you also need to find mentors and other professionals that will hold you accountable and that will lift you to new heights both professionally and personally. Take things to the next level by finding ways to lean into your fears and limiting beliefs. Don't let risk-aversion hold you back; instead, use the 4 ideas that I talked about as a launching pad into the great things that you can accomplish when you find the courage to say “yes” to trying new things and crashing through quitting points. Episode 98 Product Picks: BeeKeeper's Naturals In October 2019, I decided to write the entire first draft of my book in like... five days. It was intense. I knew I needed to be laser focused for those four days, so you better believe I loaded up on my Beekeeper's Naturals goodies every day that week! I took the B. Powered superfood honey to improve my focus and keep me alert. I also took a BLIXR vial each morning to clear out that brain fog. Truthfully, two years ago I never could have written this book in four days. I didn't have the mental clarity or the energy to do it. But my Beekeeper's honey keeps me fueled and fog-free, and I can definitely notice a difference on the days I forget to take it.
