Tom Hilder was born to a life in the country. Born in rural Scotland but raised in Hampshire, he went through school always thinking – and being told — that he needed to find a life, and a career, out in the countryside, working with his hands.A chance meeting with a lecturer at Sparsholt College changed his life for good, and put him on a pathway to become (deep breath) the 'Senior Nature-Based Solutions Officer — Practical Delivery' at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. It's comfortably the longest job title of anyone who's yet joined James Fisher on the Country Life Podcast, but the aim is clear: to make the world around us a better, greener place.Tom talks to James about his life, how he ended up working in the field (literally), and the challenges he's faced — from Shetland ponies and landowners suspicious of his tender years to the 'charismatic adders' found on Hook Common, in north Hampshire. You can find out more about the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust here, and to nominate someone for the 2026 edition of the award Tom won, visit the Schoffel Countryside Awards website. Humans have shaped the world more than any other species in existence, largely due to our ability to coordinate and work together as a unit – in other words, to govern ourselves. This means that, while human societies are at the center of the many crises we face today, we are also the key to navigating through them safely. But this is only possible if we're able to hold the foundations of our governance together: communication, agency, and remembering our shared humanity. What is the current state of our ability to do this, and what policy mechanisms and agreements are needed to navigate the turbulent decades to come? In this Reality Roundtable, Nate is joined by geopolitical risk experts Mark Medish and Chuck Watson to discuss the increasing strain being placed on human governance as a result of escalating conflicts between nations and state leaders. Together, they delve into the intricate foundations of our modern governing structures and why it is critical that we reinforce existing international treaties and agreements in order to avoid the worst outcomes for all of humanity. Mark and Chuck also discuss the history of nuclear arms control – including the upcoming expiration of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) – and how artificial intelligence threatens to disturb the tenuous peace built in the 20th century. Ultimately, they emphasize the need to renew public awareness and education on the importance of governance and the need for our leadership to engage in diplomatic negotiations in an increasingly complex world. Despite the media's focus on laws, regulations, and technology, why do people and our shared humanity still lay at the center of good governance and decision making? Where are our current leaders failing us, and does the average citizen still hold agency to influence the trajectory of global events? Lastly, what do we risk by abandoning trust in our fellow citizens and nations, and what opportunities are still available to rebuild our confidence in each other? (Conversation recorded on January 8th, 2026) About Mark Medish: Mark Medish has over 30 years of professional experience in policy, law, finance, and strategic communications. Medish served at The White House as a Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director on the National Security Council, as well as at the U.S. Treasury as Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs. He also worked in senior positions at the State Department (USAID) and the United Nations (UNDP). Medish is Vice Chair of Project Associates Ltd., a London headquartered strategic consultancy with offices in Europe, the Middle East, East Africa, and the U.S. He is also a founding partner of the Mosaiq Law Group in Washington, D.C., and a co-founder of Keep Our Republic, a non-profit civic education organization promoting democratic governance and rule of law. His previous business leadership posts include: president of The Messina Group, a boutique strategic communications firm based in Washington, D.C.; president of the international division of Guggenheim Partners, an asset management company headquartered in Chicago; and equity partner at Akin Gump, an international law firm where he led the sovereign advisory practice. He worked as a vice president for studies and senior scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He was a visiting research fellow at The Japan Institute of International Affairs in Tokyo. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a board member of the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University and the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna. He believes the best way to engage people in matters of science and technology, especially nonscientists, is through stories. A fascinating story that frames the technology issues in understandable terms can capture the interest of a wide audience, therefore, "100 Years to Extinction." is made palatable. He claims society faces a potential 11-foot rise in sea level, more violent storms, and wildfires caused by the climate crisis. There are thirteen thousand nuclear weapons in nine countries, just a small fraction of which could destroy our civilization. Fifty percent of AI experts believe that there is a 10 percent chance that AI could lead to human extinction. Uncontrolled genetic engineering could lead to bioweapons, new deadly viruses, giant soldiers, and new humanoid superspecies. The technology is easy enough to use, so that a kit is available for hobbyists to change the DNA of frogs. Uncontrolled information on the internet's social media is leading to a post truth society. Controlling these technologies is extremely urgent, he says.He is the author of 100 YEARS TO EXTINCTION: The Tyranny of Technology and the Fight for a Better Future. https://100yearstoextinction.com/http://www.yourlotandparcel.org

A worldwide decline in sperm is making things difficult for those trying to have a baby. This week in the news, Patti and Doug talk about the link between RF radiation and autism, A Pew Foundation report on plastic pollution, and how chemicals in food are making us sick. Then Dr. Shanna Swan, author of Countdown – How Our Modern World Is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male and Female Reproductive Development, and Imperiling the Future of the Human Race – talks about her work and how endocrine-disrupting chemicals may be interfering with our ability to reproduce.
William Taylor - By the end of Genesis 1–11, the outlook for humanity seems grim—but one vital promise changes everything. God's promise of mercy offers the only real hope, and Genesis 12 shows us where to find that hope and what it will look like.
In April 2023, the World Health Organization released a new report on infertility, which said that around one in sex people worldwide experience infertility at some point in their lives. The WHO's Director-General labelled the phenomenon a major health issue and called for more research in an area that is “still under-studied…and insufficiently funded”. The sheer proportion of affected individuals shows the need to expand access to fertility-related care and ensure that this issue is no longer sidelined in health research and policies. The WHO review was based on 133 fertility studies dating between 1990 and 2021, and showed that no region of the world is spared. What are the causes of such high levels of infertility? What treatments are currently available for people with infertility problems? What could the consequences be? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions ! In this solo episode, I dive into Peter Wessel Zapffe's haunting “existential elk” theory of consciousness — the idea that our self-awareness is both magnificent and unbearably heavy, like oversized antlers we were never built to carry. The topic resurfaced after my friend Aaron Inkrott recently shared the metaphor with me, and it immediately brought me back to when I first encountered it years ago in Thomas Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against the Human Race.As a psychotherapist who spends my days sitting with people's despair, loneliness, and deep existential pain, I find myself drawn to these darker currents of thought. But I'm equally interested in how we can work creatively and hopefully within them. In this episode, I reflect on how Zapffe's theory shows up in therapy — especially with teens and neurodivergent young adults — and how the metaphor of “the elk with oversized antlers” can help us understand both the burden and the possibility of consciousness.I invite you to explore your own antlers, the weight you carry, and the ways therapy can help us hold our awareness with more courage, imagination, and maybe even meaning.
This is Paul's Closing Argument in God's Case Against the Human Race, in Romans 3:9-20. We will find the final answer to our question we asked when this court was convened back in Rom. 1:18-20: What's Wrong with the World? Paul answers with one word, the last word in both Rom. 3:9 and 3:20: SIN. We will take a hard look at our great human enemy, sin ... defining it, considering it, sitting under it without being able to wriggle out from under it. It is not easy material, but it is priceless in its TRUTH value, because until we have a certain diagnosis, we cannot find a cure! Come hear God's diagnosis of humanity's greatest problem this Sunday! And then next Sunday, we will consider His glorious CURE for every believer through Jesus Christ our LORD!visit us at: conejochurch.com

Exhibit C is God's Case Against the Human Race, a representative of humanity that is the Best Case - the Jews, God's Chosen People. Paul writes as a consummate insider, a Jew writing about Jews, and the Holy Spirit gave Paul profound insights into the Jewish heart and their sacred texts of the Torah and the Prophets. Paul will reveal how even the Jews, precious to God as the very heart of humanity, the blessed recipients of the oracles of God in the Torah and all the Hebrew Scriptures, still fall short and end up doing the same things as the other Exhibits in the Court. We will see the genius of God in planning specifically to change the hearts of Jewish believers, His way of making hearts holy like He is holy, determined and written in the Torah itself and in Ezekiel.visit us at: conejochurch.com
We return to the Courtroom, for Exhibit B in God's Case Against the Human Race, a representative of humanity that is the Good Case, in Romans 2:1-16. How many of us have heard people describe themselves this way: "I'm a good person, I don't hurt anybody. I'm pretty sure I'm going to heaven because I am a good person..." Sadly, this prevalent view is woefully inaccurate. When Jesus was called "Good Teacher," He rightly pointed out, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone." (Mark 10:18). This week's text will make an epic contrast between our double-standard, 'easygoing on ourselves but harsh on others' human judgment, and the unchanging, fair and impartially applied righteous judgment of God. And the main thing that makes God's judgment so right and so different is that it always begins with KINDNESS, for "the kindness of God leads you to repentance." (Rom. 2:4).visit us at: conejochurch.com
In this special Halloween episode, we chat with LifeStance therapist Ed Collins, author of Fear Itself: The Nature of Fear and Its Value to the Human Race. Together, we dive into what really lies beneath our fears—why we seek out scary experiences, how fear connects to anxiety, and the surprising ways it can help us grow. Ed also shares how fear has shaped human survival and why it continues to fascinate us each Halloween season. It's a thought-provoking look at the emotion that both frightens and fuels us.

Hecojeni doesn't dress their music up for the algorithm. No polish, no autotune just raw takes, jagged edges. The kind of lyrics that hit harder because they're unfiltered. In our conversation, we dive into the making of The Human Race. A song that channels frustration, burnout. Seeing resilience into something both fragile and fierce. We talk about writing songs that feel like postcards from heartbreak. The difference between showing off and showing up. Why imperfection can be its own kind of perfection. Hecojeni opens up about creating music that feels half-secret. Yet deeply communal the kind of tracks you stumble across once and never shake. If you've ever felt worn down by modern life but still hungry for honesty, this one's for you.Where to Find Hecojeni?

Lionel dives headfirst into sensitive questions about preference, race, and freedom of expression: Would you prefer white Australians or Nigerians move into your state, and does your answer make you a racist? Explore the definitions of "racist," "xenophobe," and "far right" terms like "groper".Lionel debates whether holding "reprehensible" ideas or hating groups based on ethnicity or class is acceptable under the First Amendment, provided no action is taken. Discussion also covers racial preferences in personal life, from dating and marriage to judging adoption scenarios (gay vs. straight, black vs. white families). Why is the mechanical view of reality so strong? Why does billiard-ball atomism remain the default popular metaphysics? William James was horrified by such “nothing buttery” and the way it substituted bare concepts for rich phenomena.A.N. Whitehead famously – or perhaps not famously enough – described the problem as the “fallacy of misplaced concreteness”.William Blake is another critic. “General Knowledge is Remote Knowledge. But General Forms have their vitality in Particulars. It is in Particulars that Wisdom consists & Happiness too.”We should care about what Blake called “single vision and Newton's sleep”. The antidote is to reestablish a relationship with presence. Poetry and imagery evoke the lived moment of experiencing and the fluid dynamics of that perception. Regain contact with that, regain contact with life. This is the promise of Blake and others. For more on Mark's book, Awake!, and more of his work see - www.markvernon.com

Born in 1948, Michael knew from a very early age (after spelling out words in his alphabet soup” that he wanted to be a writer. As he says, "From the very beginning, my life has been a spiritual quest for love and truth. My father served as an American Intelligence Officer for the United States Air Force, and from that time my life was one of periodic change and travel. I went to high school at an American school in Germany and spent my vacations traveling all over Europe. Once, in the spring of 1965, in a youth hostel in Stockholm, I met some kids who had been to India and back, traveling overland. I decided I would someday do the same thing.” He became interested in Eastern philosophy and Indian esoteric teachings , and studied the Bhagavad-gita.” By 1980, he had established himself as a writer, and since then his many books have sold more than 10 million copies and have been translated into many languages. His first book, “Forbidden Archaeology: the Hidden History of the Human Race,” was a landmark book challenging the mainstream paradigm of archeology and showing that humankind is tens of thousands of years old, but millions. As Michael writes, “This book shows that archaeologists and anthropologists, over the past one hundred and fifty years, have accumulated vast amounts of evidence showing that humans like ourselves have existed on this planet for tens of millions of years. We show how this evidence has been suppressed, ignored, and forgotten because it contradicts generally-held ideas about human evolution." Some of his other books include “My Science, My Religion,” “Human Devolution,” “The Forbidden Archeologist,” “Extreme Human Antiquity,” and more! Michael Cremo is a member of the World Archeological Congress and the European Association of Archaeologists as well as an associate member of the Bhaktivedanta Institute specializing in history and philosophy of science. We learn through imitation. This is why we have role models and icons. Those who have gone before us and shown us what's possible. Whether we know it or not, we are followers first. The Apostle John talks about this in 3 John, where he writes, “Do not imitate what is evil but what is good.” In other words, you will imitate what you watch, so watch wisely. From spiritual mentors to social media influencers, the people and patterns we imitate form our character and ultimately how we make our way in the word.Become New is here to help you grow spiritually one day at a time.
Today is day 213 and we are on the section on The Seventh Petition: "But deliver us from evil". 213. Did evil exist before the human race embraced it? Yes. Satan had already opposed God and chosen evil when he tempted Adam and Eve. (Genesis 3: 1–5; John 8:44) We will conclude today with The First Collect of Compline found on page 63 in the Book of Common Prayer (2019). The concept of Covenants are very important in the Bible. They are central to the Bible's unfolding storyline, and they are central for a proper understanding of the relationship that exists between God and Man. Yet, in much of the church today, covenants are not often discussed and even less often understood. In this episode, James Kaczor gives a brief overview of Covenant Theology. He touches on the Tri-covenantal Framework often espoused by Reformed Theologians (Summary Below)Covenant of Redemption: This is the eternal agreement between the three Persons of the Trinity to redeem humanity. Covenant of Works: This is the agreement God made with Adam, as the Head of the Human Race, that promised eternal life for perfect obedience and death for disobedience. All humans who are not "in Christ" are "in Adam" and still subject to the consequences of this covenant. Covenant of Grace: This is the agreement between God the Father and Jesus Christ, along with all those who are "in Christ," whereby God offers eternal life and salvation to fallen sinners through faith in Jesus Christ. In this Covenant, God also gives to his people the gift of his Holy Spirit that makes them willing and able to believe. It is through the grace of this Covenant that all people, since the fall of Adam, must be saved. In addition to this, James spends time unpacking the successive and related Covenants that advance the storyline of the Bible and the redemptive plan of God for the world. Mainly in this order: Abrahamic Covenant -> Mosaic Covenant -> Davidic Covenant -> New CovenantThis message was first preached by James Kaczor on 6/26/2025 at River City's Thursday Morning Bible Study.
A History of the Muslim World: From Its Origins to the Dawn of Modernity (Princeton UP, 2024) by Michael A. Cook This book describes and explains the major events, personalities, conflicts, and convergences that have shaped the history of the Muslim world. The body of the book takes readers from the origins of Islam to the eve of the nineteenth century, and an epilogue continues the story to the present day. Michael Cook thus provides a broad history of a civilization remarkable for both its unity and diversity. After setting the scene in the Middle East of late antiquity, the book depicts the rise of Islam as one of the great black swan events of history. It continues with the spectacular rise of the Caliphate, an empire that by the time it broke up had nurtured the formation of a new civilization. It then goes on to cover the diverse histories of all the major regions of the Muslim world, providing a wide-ranging account of the key military, political, and cultural developments that accompanied the eastward and westward spread of Islam from the Middle East to the shores of the Atlantic and the Pacific. At the same time, A History of the Muslim World contains numerous primary-source quotations that expose the reader to a variety of acutely insightful voices from the Muslim past. Michael Cook is the Class of 1943 University Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. His books include Ancient Religions, Modern Politics: The Islamic Case in Comparative Perspective (Princeton), A Brief History of the Human Race, and The Koran: A Very Short Introduction. Morteza Hajizadeh is a Ph.D. graduate in English from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. His research interests are Cultural Studies; Critical Theory; Environmental History; Medieval (Intellectual) History; Gothic Studies; 18th and 19th Century British Literature. Mary welcomes back Nathaniel Jeanson of Answers in Genesis. Dr. Jeanson holds a PhD in cell and developmental biology from Harvard University. He serves as a research biologist, author, and speaker with Answers in Genesis. His current research involves using DNA comparisons to understand the true origin of species, and he has published groundbreaking results on this question. In addition, he has contributed to several books, including Replacing Darwin: The New Origins of Species and the only slightly more recent Traced: Human DNA's Big Surprise, an examination of the genetic history of humanity that makes testable predictions from the creationist worldview. His 26 part documentary, "The New History of the Human Race" is a fascinating and mind-bending look at the migrations of millennia of humans based on archaeology, genetics, and linguistics, using knowledge and tech-knowledge that was here-to-fore unavailable to the average researcher. We look at his new book, They Had Names, to unlock the hidden history of America. Were there really no people living in America prior to the Pilgrims? Why are the history books silent on its inhabitants going back millennia? Before the Pilgrims landed at Cape Cod, what was happening in North America? Who was there? What civilizations rose and fell? For years, the answers to these questions have been shrouded in mystery. At the time of European contact, a diverse world of Native peoples thrived across the continent. What was their backstory? Who were the ancestors of the Sioux? Where did the Navajo come from? What about the Apache, the Comanche, the Cherokee? For the history nerd, a compendium of answers to questions, and yet still unanswered questions from one of the finest researchers of our time, using linguistics, archaeology, and genetics. The restructuring of society is well underway, as the Totalitarian Tip Toe slowly inches forward towards a digital prison system with the emergence of artificial intelligence. The Transhumanism agenda that first took hold in the 1960s has emerged as the end goal for those driving the narratives through the media, tech world, and scientific community. Multiple groups that proclaim to be defenders of mother nature and the people, such as the World Wildlife Foundation and the United Nations, are actually depopulation front-groups that have a very different plan for humanity should they succeed in their quest for world domination. Through their partners in Big Pharma, the culling of the population started many decades ago, though it is now finally clear what their plan has always been.
