I genuinely believe you have to like what you love in life, and I love to hear about it. What started as recording drunk conversations at a Bar with good friends. Gets a second life at recording drunk conversations with the best of friends... and making new friends along the way. Be here for the journey and live vicariously through these Nerds. Thanks to Disc0 for the use of the song "Torrents" for the intro, which can also, along with other great songs be found on Spotify. Hey I'm finally back! With me today is Ryan Stabell from the Spelunkers team to talk about some random things. Like, Halo, D&D, and Borderlands. But, also! And mainly about what being a Gearhead means to him and how cars should very much be a place of peace and adventure for us. He goes over some mechanical know-how with me and I truly hope you enjoy listening to his rants as much as I did. HEADPHONE WARNING!!! My cool nerd kid comes on for this one. We moved into a new house and it took longer to get settled then I thought. So I do sort of a "here we were" "here we are" thing. Short, sweet, you can consistently hear my kid yell in the background the whole time. Thanks to all the friends I've made in 2021, here is to a hopeful year of more friends and more Nerding out, --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
I finally made it back to Flywheel Brewing where this Podcast all started to have a quick chat with James White about Dune Part 1 the new movie that is available in theaters and on HBO Max. It was a solid movie and a great time catching up with James. Our conversation gets briefly delayed in the middle due to real life events. But that doesn't stop us from finishing our beers and our "Review" of Dune. Listen in and let me know what you think! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
No seriously, did you all know that Pokemon is the biggest monetary Franchise ever? You might be saying. But Eric, what about the Mouse? Bigger then the Mouse! Join myself as I speak with O'Dell Harmon Jr about the world of Pokemon. As always, along with other topics as well. Such as my brief rant about Comedy Culture during today's time and O'Dells wonderful Bird and Dog analogy. Also I more then once refer to Digimom as Pokemon while still maintaining its the better of the two, while O'Dell teaches me the Dark Trurth behind the Shadow Realm of Yu-Gi-Oh. It was a lot of fun and I think you'll have fun listening. Sincerely, Eric. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
Noooooo. Now I have to watch Squid Games this weekend. A wonderful recommendation from Kelsey Sweetman my guest this Episode. She is newly engaged to Nicholas Gullotti, one half of Zodi-Hacks, I mean, that man put an Ice Skating Rink on her finger. Must be pretty hard for her to lift all this fine cuisine. However,.... she manages to do it and I'm glad she came on to tell me all about it. As some one who has been in my life longer then most, I am glad to call her a good friend. She came on to tell me all about what it means to be a Foodie. Some how or another we get in a brief topic about "Legal" Weed Festivals and the amazing THC infused cooking in D.C. It was all really interesting stuff. I mean, Vegan Donuts, who knew? Regardless, it was great catching up with an old friend. Sincerely, Eric. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
All Zombies are Zombies, especially Resident Evil 4 Zombies! It is just beginning to be Spooky Season so my wonderful Guest Haley MacLean (CoHost of Game and Make Up as well as all around rad person) discusses Zombies and the proper definition of them briefly with me before we go on a very long but still not long enough journey through the Legalities of Video Game Mechanic Patents. The difference between Patents and Copyright, and listen to me learn what a POSITA is in real time! There is so many layers to this very specific topic and Haley walks me through all of it patiently as I try to grasp all the concepts. We speak briefly about the Casting decisions behind the upcoming Mario movie and I learn the sad story behind the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Overall, many things were discussed and it's always a joy to watch some one get carried away in their passions, so join me and get swept up in this week's Episode. Sincerely, Eric. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
Come hang out with myself and Chris Logan (from Best of the Rest Podcast) on this weeks Episode. Where I defend the idea that Destin Daniel Cretton should get the chance to Direct an Avatar: The Last Airbender movie. Of course I spend too much time this Episode simply referring to him as "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Director" and praising the movie. After I get that out of my system Chris speaks about the most underrated Artist of the 90s. Mr. Jeff Buckley himself. Hallelujah, hallelujah. How did it take me so long to discover this amazing song writer?!?! But you can listen to Chris tell you all about him in this Episode. It was a pleasure hearing about all the work the man was able to create in short time and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did. Sincerely, Eric. Also................................ I was just happy to hear Rob knew who Noodle Boy was. This episode I blindside my Guest Rob Hudak from Draft Punks (seriously, pause this Podcast and go through their amazing back catalog of great Episodes about drafting.... well whatever they damn well please.) but I blindside Rob about whether or not occasionally we need to consume the dark or tough stuff just to make the bright stuff a little brighter. I had a lot of chaotic energy this Episode and Rob stuck with it to deliver some amazing conversations about why FromSoftware games are amazing and we both pray to the Cosmic Horror Gods to bring us Bloodborne in all of it's Next-Gen beauty. If you enjoy what you hear, please consider supporting Calm Down, Nerd through Anchor. If you do that from this Episode. Your money will be forwarded to getwigi.com to support Women In Games International. Please give it a consideration. But either way. Seriously, this is my best Friend, Best Man at my Wedding, a bromance of Soulmates and a lifelong support system. This year is our 20 Year Anniversary of Friendship after meeting on a hot summer day with scooters and skateboards. We discuss how Scrubs deepened our bonds and how his Mom (love you Missy) would be mad at me for years due to a break of trust. All that said, he came here to talk about Nier Automata and how damn layered that Game is. From the beautiful music to the multi-playthroughs, to the gun shooter twin stick arcade sections. I love nothing more then when people go on long winded rants. I'm glad I finally got my best bud on here for it. Thanks for coming on. -Sincerely, Eric --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
oh great. Â Now I'm a fan of PUP. Â Thanks to Jeff Cork for both the band recommendation and joining me this Episode. Â Jeff, can currently be found as a CoHost of BetterQuest (a Podcast about getting better) that is part of the greater MinnMax umbrella and also on AFireInsideOut where him and Ben Hanson talk about their love for AFI and each album. Â All this sage wisdom at my disposal and I immediately try to make him a fan of Bluey. Â However, Â through the course of this Episode we touch on improving ourselves and the places we find the most meditative peace in our lives. Â For him that is Legos! Â The classic toy of any childhood Nerd. Â But, Â as we grow older we learn to enjoy the quiet that comes with these projects. Â But don't take my word for it! Â Listen as Jeff speaks about his love for the Legos brand and other Nerd topics. -Sincerely, Eric *Editors Note: Â As mentioned in this Episode any amount given to the Podcast through Anchor will be forwarded to Charity. Â If you would like it to go towards ExtraLife as mentioned by Jeff Cork please let me know. *Link to the beautiful modules he speaks about: Â https://www.lego.com/en-us/categories/modular-buildings --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
This Episode I am joined by Charles McGregor, developer of TGA Nominated for Accessibility Indie Hit HyperDot, founder of Tribe Games, and all around genuine person. Preston Willke of Level Zero Pod joins me in this Episode to go through a wide range of topics. As usual we get off topic more than once. But we are reminded that there is lessons in failure. And no games teach these lessons better then the Play Dead Games indie darlings Inside and Limbo. Have a listen, share your thoughts. This Episode I speak with Co-Host of ZodiHacks Nicholas Gullotti about his favorite Movie Franchise: Rocky! As one of my oldest friends we lose the plot more then a few times trying to get to the point. We talk about Fabric Softener tricks, how he scammed money from me for Otis Cookies, and how Blockbuster was probably the best place for two friends to ever work together. All of this before we get to the point eventually. It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how many beers you can drink and still be able to communicate how inspiring Rocky Balboa is and always will be. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
Bob Buel from 99 Questions fame joins me to discuss the mysteries and the lore of the infamous T.V. Show Lost. My few take aways: Science vs Faith is an interesting topic to explore for a show. Dichotomy is top 5 words ever. And "No Pen Boo" is fun to say. But my biggest take away is Bob is great guest and I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I had recording it. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
Join me this Episode as I talk with James Smith from PS Premiere. We talk about my jealousy that he can have Shellfish and I can't. We talk about Stand up comedy. We talk about a few things. But mainly. Photo Modes and how one medium of art is creating a surprising landscape and ability to create captured art through it. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support
Lovely Doreen Ford is on this Episode from PS Premiere Podcast to talk about the Kingdom Heart series. I briefly make her try to explain the plot to me, but overall she explains why such a fantastic series of games needs to exist and we agree that Donald is the true Support MVP. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/calmdownnerd/support

Note* While I don't regret this Episode it was recorded prior to the Reboot and does not entirely represent what we will currently be going for.
