Marriages rarely fall apart because of one big moment—they erode through small daily disconnections. In this episode, Dan sits down with author Lindsay Maestes to talk about how couples can rebuild connection, overcome sexual shame, and create a stronger marriage through intentional daily habits. They discuss faith and sexuality, emotional labor, foreplay outside the bedroom, and why openness and vulnerability are essential for great intimacy. Plus, Lindsay shares a fun "black belt" sex tip to help couples add novelty and excitement to their relationship. DeVonté M. Brown does not just point a camera. He listens. He studies the light. He waits for the truth to reveal itself in the frame. Known as THE MAN IN THE ARENA, this Detroit born cinematographer and director builds images with patience and purpose. Every project is a brick laid with intention. Every story is earned.A graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, DeVonté sharpened his eye in both narrative and commercial spaces. He worked as a freelancer for more than a decade, shaping stories through editing and cinematography. He stepped onto national sets with Queer Eye LLC as a Second Assistant Camera. He moved through the fast pace of American Ninja Warrior. Each experience added muscle to his craft. Each set taught him how to see.His independent spirit lives in projects like Brick By Brick KC and the short film Vie, which he directed and shot himself. In Now What, directed alongside La'Ron Cooper with cinematography by Marcus Guider, DeVonté continued to refine his voice as a storyteller who values collaboration as much as authorship. He believes every crew member matters. He believes the frame is a shared responsibility. In this episode of Visual Intonation Podcast, we explore the rhythm behind his images. The discipline behind his consistency. The Detroit grit that shaped him and the Kansas City energy that sharpened him. This is a conversation about craft. About patience. About building a body of work brick by brick until the vision stands on its own.Devonté M. What if the class everyone labels “unteachable”… becomes your favourite group of the year?In this episode, I'm giving you a front seat to one of the most formative stories of my teaching career—back when I was fresh out of uni, wildly underqualified, and somehow ended up turning the “low class” into the class that changed everything for me.This episode is a big one. It gets to the heart of how community is actually built in classrooms (and how it's usually not).I'm taking you back to my first couple of years in the classroom, when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but somehow stumbled into building a connected, joyful, motivated classroom culture… completely by accident. And then had crushing imposter syndrome because I didn't know how or why it worked. We're unpacking:Why community isn't built through one-off icebreakers or belonging programsHow tiny, everyday moments quietly create belongingAnd what I was actually doing in that Year 7 class that transformed everythingIf you've ever thought:“I care so much, but this class just isn't clicking”“I want calm and connection, but I don't want to be fake or cringe”“Surely community shouldn't feel this hard…”…this episode is for you.Let's go back to the Wayback Machine and unpack what really builds classroom community. What you'll hear in this episode:Why community isn't built in one big moment, but in micro-momentsThe foundation every classroom needs before community can growHow predictable routines create felt safety (even when you're new)The accidental strategies that changed my toughest classWhy in-jokes, rituals, and shared experiences matter more than programsHow to build belonging without losing authorityWhat to try this week with a class you're struggling withResources & Things Mentioned:The Behaviour ClubThe Invisible Backpack LessonCup Fillers: 20 whole class activitiesAll community resourcesYour Next Steps:Reflect on what makes you feel like you belongPick one small thing from this episode to try this weekIf you're a Behaviour Club member, head to this month's resource dropHave a question, comment, or just want to say hello? Send Us a Message (include your contact info if you'd like a reply)What can a children's fairy tale possibly teach us about divorce? As it turns out, quite a lot. The story of the Three Little Pigs offers a surprisingly perfect framework for understanding how different approaches to divorce preparation yield dramatically different outcomes. Some clients rush through their divorce process, making quick, reactive decisions—building with "straw." They might retain the most aggressive attorney they can find out of anger or fear, or just try to "get it over with" because they're exhausted. Others put in a bit more effort—the "stick" builders—talking to lawyers, downloading checklists, maybe reading a book or two. But they often miss the deeper emotional preparation, conflict pattern awareness, and values clarification that truly matters. The wisest approach? Building with "bricks"—taking time to assess the landscape, understand the risks, and plan for resilience. This means assembling the right team (attorney, financial specialist, therapist, and yes, a divorce coach), getting clear on values and goals, developing communication skills, and learning emotional regulation. When the inevitable "wolf" comes—whether that's court conflict, custody challenges, or financial hurdles—this brick foundation stands strong. As divorce coaches, we help clients slow down and shift from crisis thinking to strategic planning. We serve as the quarterback of their professional team, helping them engage the right specialists at the right time in the most effective ways. We aren't just offering emotional support (though that matters too); we're strategists, thinking partners, and often the only person in their life who sees the whole picture rather than just one component. The difference between merely getting through a divorce and going through it well lies in this brick-by-brick approach—intentional, informed, and aligned with long-term wellbeing. When you work with clients who are panicking, remember the pigs. Are you helping them rush toward a straw solution, or are you guiding them to build something that will truly protect them when the winds of change start blowing? It’s been said that if you want to make God laugh, you should simply tell Him your plans. Sometimes we have a great understanding of how we think something should go. We set things up for it, plan for it, build to it, and then wait for it. It is so rare that things actually go according to our plan! Nehemiah had finished the work he had come to do in Jerusalem. He had planned for it, set things up for it, built for it, and then gone back to serve the king believing 100% that he had done all he needed to do to make sure Jerusalem would honor God. When he came back to visit he learned that all that he had worked for have been set aside. This wasn’t easy, and Nehemiah pleaded with God to remember him for the good that he did and not the results that he got. For us, we need to think about not just our plans to do good, but also how to “keep the house clean”. Are there rooms of your life still set aside for your flesh? Join us this weekend for one of our worship services as we finish up the book of Nehemiah together! - Pastor Ben Key Verse - Nehemiah 13:14 (NIV) - "Remember me for this, my God, and do not blot out what I have so faithfully done for the house of my God and its services." And if you spot a thing that shouldn't be, send it in to janesays@civicmedia.us and we might use it on the show! In this week's episode, we dive into all things Keto Brick and beyond. We kick off with a hilarious look back at squirrel camp and then recap the Rock Town Naturals show—emceeing duties, booth highlights, and unexpected WNBF swag-bag hookups. From there, we share results from our VO₂ Max and RMR tests (fat-adapted gains, anyone?), discuss upcoming Dexa & 3D imaging open‐houses, and brainstorm how to track performance metrics for our 2027 prep.Next up: our Brick by Brick anniversary promo—painting names on a new shipping container, 15% off site-wide Aug 3–10, free shirt with $250+. Plus, a deep dive into guided stretching sessions (no more ham-strung glutes!), and finally, a powerful mindset segment inspired by Cameron Hanes: ditch the "finish line," embrace daily micro-wins, lift-run-shoot, and commit to one unbreakable habit every day.Rock Town Recap: Emceeing went smoothly; Keto Brick booth drew military, nutrition shops, and WNBA interest.VO₂ Max & Fat Adaptation: Both of us held fat-burning zones far longer than most—proof that keto pays off in performance.Brick by Brick Promo: Aug 3 (Noon CT)–Aug 10 (11:59 PM CT): 15% off everything + your name on our new shipping container; free 2025 shirt at $250+.Guided Stretching: 30 min sessions at $85 (drops to $55/session when you buy multiple or subscribe)—perfect for unlocking tight glutes, hammies, shoulders.Mindset Reset: "Nobody cares, work harder"—embrace daily grind, avoid finish-line mentality, and lock in 3 non-negotiable daily habits.00:00 Squirrel Camp Stories & Hunting Limits02:30 Rock Town Naturals Bodybuilding Show Recap08:45 VO₂ Max & RMR Test Insights14:15 Dexa & 3D Imaging Open House Details17:50 Brick by Brick 2025 Promo Breakdown23:10 Guided Stretching Zone Experience28:00 Cameron Hanes Mindset & Daily Habit ChallengeGreg Mahler is also a lifetime natural bodybuilder, and can be followed on InstagramKey TakeawaysShow Notes & Timestampshttps://www.instagram.com/ketogreg80/
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by fabulous actor LAUREN LYLE!A perfect piece of acting-focused chat but of course, not limited to...! Lauren is a very welcome guest, who has been on a proper mission on her way to securing bigger roles and ones that would find those huge audiences. From her artistic origins, spending time in New Zealand and putting in work in various disciplines back in the day, to the real machine work of getting more and more roles which ultimately led to the point at which we find Lauren today! Of course, there are the universal and familiar issues of comparison (unfortunately inevitable in areas of the acting world), but also revelations to do with community, finding and asking for help, swimming, the hidden positive aspects of breakups, and also - speaking of revelations - Pip casually throws one in there around halfway in which you don't want to miss so stick around for that nugget! Awesome goodness here, join in, and if you haven't seen Outlander or Karen Pirie yet, by all means listen first and then go find 'em.PIP'S PATREON PAGE if you're of a supporting natureIMDBINSTAGRAMKAREN PIRIEOUTLANDERTHE OUTRUNSPEECH DEVELOPMENT WEBSTOREPIP TWITCH • (music stuff)PIP INSTAGRAMPIP TWITTERPIP PATREONPIP IMDBPOD BIBLE Hosted on Acast.
