Big Wave Dave’s WAS a show. During a particularly bad winter blizzard, three yuppie dudes from Chicago decide to pull up their stakes and move to Hawaii to open up a surf shop on the beach. Oh, and they drag one of their wives along for the ride. Turns out none of them know anything whatsoever about surfing...we put on our Aloha shirts, grab our boards, and see if this show makes waves! From rich breads to tasty pork, here's what the San Juan del Sur farmers market has to offer. Today we’re exploring the farmers market in San Juan del Sur! Every week, local growers and a few expats come together in one space to sell organic, locally-sourced goods. At 1:44 in the video above, watch my interview (in Spanish) with Merlinda, whose fresh breads are a market staple! We enjoy her coconut bread at home all the time. At 3:04 in the video, check out my interview with Mark, who showcases his delicious, slow-cooked pork at the market every Saturday. His hams are brined for a full week, and the pork shoulders are smoked fresh for 24 hours straight. “San Juan del Sur’s local market has a rich variety of locally sourced foods and wares.” In addition to selling at the farmer’s market, Mark and his team also cater weddings and parties, including two events at the U.S. embassy in Managua. Merlinda and Mark are just two of the phenomenal vendors whose goods can be tried and purchased weekly at this beloved community outlet. The market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Big Wave Dave’s. If you want to hear more of my favorite picks from the market or if you’re interested in buying or selling, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help.

All of June we are celebrating the Fab Four, indulging my favorite past time - talking about the Beatles - with guests old and new, and revisiting some favorite episodes from the past three and a half years of podcasts. Today we are celebrating 50 years of Sgt Pepper with TV legend Ken Levine - writer, producer and director on iconic shows from M*A*S*H to Cheers to Frasier, co-creator of Almost Perfect and Big Wave Dave's, I could go on... He's also a baseball announcer, author, my favorite blogger and host of his own podcast Hollywood and Levine. Ken's masterful storytelling is at the fore in this episode as he lays out how he discovered the Beatles as a teenager in 1964, his doomed scheme to meet the band in California, his encounters with John Lennon and Ringo Starr, why he chose not to see the Beatles live, and what it was like to work in a record store when Sgt Pepper was unleashed on the world. We talk about how his feelings about the record have and haven't changed through the years, and why it's the one album he will never get sick of listening to. My Favorite Album is a podcast unpacking the great works of pop music. Each episode features a different songwriter or musician discussing their favorite album of all time - their history with it, the making of the album, individual songs and the album's influence on their own music. Jeremy Dylan is a filmmaker, journalist and photographer from Sydney, Australia who has worked in the music industry since 2007. He directed the the feature music documentary Jim Lauderdale: The King of Broken Hearts (out now!) and the feature film Benjamin Sniddlegrass and the Cauldron of Penguins, in addition to many commercials and music videos.
