In this powerful episode of The Rested Mother Series, Jennifer Allen shares her deeply personal journey from decades of toxic productivity and motherhood exhaustion to a life anchored in rest and self-trust. For years, Jen overrode the wisdom of her body and the whispers of her soul—until her nervous system and spirit could no longer sustain the push. Contracting Long Covid was the final push to make rest nonnegotiable. Through yoga nidra and reconnecting with the rhythms of nature, she began to lay down her armor, pick up her pillow and blanket, and reimagine what it means to live, parent, and work from a rested place. Her story is a courageous testament to the healing that becomes possible when we stop doing—and start resting. The Rested Mother Series shares 5 powerful short rest stories from Daring to Rest Facilitators who chose rest in the midst of motherhood, grief, burnout, and healing. These mothers dared to pause, listen, and reclaim themselves through yoga nidra and deep rest. You are invited to hear what happens when a mother rests—and rises rooted. In perhaps our most important and most meaningful episode yet, this week we sat down to chat with Jennifer Allen from @Wonders_Within_Reach about what accessible travel and inclusion looks like for those with disabilities. As a Spina Bifida mom, Jennifer is no stranger to a travel world that is often not created with accessibility in mind. She has dedicated her life to finding accessible options for all, and sharing her experiences with others. We talk about their journey using credit card points and miles to help navigate the world of adoption, as well as many tips and tricks to make travel easier for those with both visible and invisible disabilities. Jennifer shares some of her family's experiences with international travel where the kindness of strangers has been paramount to the success of the trips. We hope to bring awareness to the challenges travelers with disabilities face, share a perspective that not everyone considers, and empower individuals with differing abilities (and their families) to get out and see the world. Today, it is my pleasure to speak with Ryan Harding and Jennifer Allen. Ryan is the President of Garden Trust Company and the Managing Director of the IFO Group, the family office of the Ilitch family of Detroit, MI, founders of Little Caesar's Pizza, one of the world's largest pizza chains. Jennifer is the Director of Insurance & Risk Solutions for the IFO and is responsible for Tenda, a captive insurance company established by the Ilitch Family Office. The insurance industry is experiencing significant disruptions and undergoing a fundamental transformation, and Ryan and Jennifer share their observations on the current insurance landscape and how the industry and the solutions it provides have evolved in recent years. Most family enterprises are complex systems of people and entities that have unique, and often esoteric, risk management and insurance needs. Ryan and Jennifer shed light on the unique needs of enterprise families and their family offices and offer their views on how well the insurance industry is currently able to cater to these needs. For the unique needs of their family, the IFO Group concluded that establishing a captive insurance company is the right solution that best serves the family and its enterprise and provides the best protection and benefits to the family members and other constituents within the enterprise. As a result, they created Tenda, their insurance captive, that provides a range of insurance products, including best-in-class, accessible, and affordable health insurance to family members and family office employees. Ryan and Jennifer provide a quick “Insurance Captives 101,” covering some of the basics, such as what are captives, how do they work, and why are they an attractive option for family enterprises. They also describe how other enterprise families or family offices can take advantage of the unique solutions provided by Tenda or pursue other similar offerings in the marketplace. Do not miss this highly relevant and in-depth conversation with two of the most sophisticated risk management thought leaders and practitioners in the family enterprise and family office space.

With over 15 years of experience, she has practiced in a wide variety of settings. So they created their Infusion Lounge where they offer integrative medicine services that encompass diet and lifestyle medicine. Their clinics today are recognized as the most refreshing medical offices in their part of Missouri, offering services in regenerative medicine, FDA-approved non-medicinal pain management treatments, bio-identical hormone optimization, anti-aging skincare, body sculpting, and other med-spa services. In today's interview, Jennifer and Kimberly describe what an Infusion Center is, and how they built their network of clinics over the past 4 years. They provide insights for other clinicians thinking about venturing into the world of medical and spa-like services outside of the traditional high-volume, insurance-driven medical-industrial complex. Jennifer Allen is the Chief Evangelist at Challenger™. She shares the 5 sales mindsets they discovered: Relationship Builder, Hard Worker, Lone Wolves, Problem Solver, and Challenger. The last one, Challengers, are the debaters of the world. As sellers, they don't settle for the status quo and achieve this by presenting insights to clients on the costs of remaining in the status quo. Jennifer also discusses their Challenger Loop and how surveys still work to provide feedback on deals they lost or are in danger of losing. HIGHLIGHTS The 5 sales mindsets and how Challengers challenge beliefs Finding talent and retaining them by ensuring good fit A no decision is NOT because of price or product The Challenger Loop QUOTES Pairing your sales mindset with a methodology Jennifer: "I think Challenger is really about arming someone like me who is a Relationship Builder to rewire their brain to say, 'You don't have to be this person's best friend.' They're not going to buy from you because you took them out to lunch or you were super nice to them on the call. They're going to buy from you because they think you have insight that helps their business.” Hiring questions to ask Challengers Jennifer: "What information, beliefs, assumptions lead them to believe that current state is good enough? And that's what I'm looking for. Are they looking at CEO podcast interviews? Are they watching content online? Are they a student of the customer? And then three, how would you think about reframing them through questions?" Why "better" ends up as a no decision Jennifer: "My job as a seller is not to show why it's better. My job is to show the cost of an action. What is the cost of the status quo? Before I ever start going off about what I have to offer and what that looks like." Jennifer Allen is formerly Chief Evangelist of Challenger and now Head of Community Growth at Lavender. She's joining me today, along with my occasional co-host, Howard Brown, founder and CEO of Revenue.io. Jennifer discusses the psychology of no-decision and why buyers who choose the status quo are actually making a decision, just not the one you want. She also gives an introduction to the Challenger Sale and the 5 sales mindsets they discovered, as well as gives tips on what sellers can do to ensure a buyer actually makes a buying decision. Jennifer also talks about The Challenger Loop to get quick feedback from the customer about what went right and wrong in the deal. HIGHLIGHT QUOTES A better product does NOT convince a buyer to make a decision- Jennifer: "[Better] is my least favorite word in sales now because I think it's the number one word that led to a lot of my status quo, no decision deals because what I failed to realize is people don't always want better. Like, good, in most cases, especially in markets like this, is damn good enough." Show the buyer the cost of action - Jennifer: "One of the most eye-opening experiences is my job as a seller is not to show why it's better. My job is to show the cost of an action. What is the cost of the status quo before I ever start going off about what I have to offer and what that looks like." ROI is not compelling enough to move away from the status quo - Jennifer: "I would talk about here's the ROI of changing; it's 15 times ROI. Guess who else is saying that? Every other vendor competing for that dollar. It means almost nothing. And I'm not saying there's not a time and place for ROI, but compelling a business to exit the status quo is incredibly difficult. And just like the doctor's example, they need to feel that the risk of staying the same is actually far greater than the risk of change." WHAT IS UP PARTEE PEOPLE ?!?!!?!? In this very caffeinated morning episode we break down everything regarding the recent point series wrap up, what this means heading into the tour championships, who moved around the most, and who took us by surprise. Throughout this episode we literally question everything. Who would have guessed Maria Oliva and Emily Beach would play so consistently they would earn spots into the finale over more known names like Henna Blomroos and Jennifer Allen? Should the DGPT champion be the points earner or the event winner? Why did Paige Pierce say she no longer has the killer instinct on the course and what did she mean by that? Should they host fewer elite series events for the pros so they carry more weight? There's a lot to break down and get into in this episode, come ParTee with us!@theparteepodcast @hannahemcbeth @christinejenningsdiscgolf@discgolfprotour
By most accounts, the twentieth century was not kind to utopian thought. The violence of two world wars, Cold War anxieties, and a widespread sense of crisis after the 1973 global oil shock appeared to doom dreams of a better world. The eventual victory of capitalism and, seemingly, liberal democracy relieved some fears but exchanged them for complacency and cynicism. Not, however, in West Germany. In Sustainable Utopias: The Art and Politics of Hope in Germany (Harvard UP, 2022), Jennifer Allen showcases grassroots activism of the 1980s and 1990s that envisioned a radically different society based on community-centered politics―a society in which the democratization of culture and power ameliorated alienation and resisted the impotence of end-of-history narratives. Berlin's History Workshop liberated research from university confines by providing opportunities for ordinary people to write and debate the story of the nation. The Green Party made the politics of direct democracy central to its program. Artists changed the way people viewed and acted in public spaces by installing objects in unexpected environments, including the Stolpersteine: paving stones, embedded in residential sidewalks, bearing the names of Nazi victims. These activists went beyond just trafficking in ideas. They forged new infrastructures, spaces, and behaviors that gave everyday people real agency in their communities. Undergirding this activism was the environmentalist concept of sustainability, which demanded that any alternative to existing society be both enduring and adaptable. The self-described "outsider," Jennifer Allen, talks about how she ended up at End It For Good and how she changed her mind on the War on Drugs. We always talk about how we want others to go out and tell their friends and family about the harms of the drug war. Even for her, it took some time to learn all about this complex issue and be able to explain it to others. Join us to hear her journey!
Before I ever start going off about what I have to offer and what that looks like." Most modern sales methodologies focus on building rapport and trust with the prospect; challenging the prospect's beliefs to make better deals is a hallmark of that perspective. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald is joined by the Chief Evangelist of Challenger, Jennifer Allen, to discuss her company's methodology that drives relationships with their prospects and customers. Jennifer started as an entry-level seller in account management: A relationship-builder through and through, she worked hard to gain client trust. (Which worked well for a long time.) During the 2008 recession, her peers and customers laid off teams and cut back budgets; that's when her corporate exec board launched a report detailing what maintains relationships with customers. Jennifer was shocked to see none of her current sales components in that report. What worked once now no longer works. Why focus on the relationship side? Jennifer never wanted to be one of those salespeople, but it was also how she was coached - she mirrored the behavior of her managers and peers. She was taught to ease tension with the buyer. However, constructive tension is crucial to teaching a prospect a risk (and why they need to act on that risk.) When you have a problem and go to the bar, the bartender makes you feel good in the moment, but then you wake up with a hangover and the same problem. Conversely, working towards a productive goal helps make strides toward solving the problem. It's all about your relationships with the people around you. Implementing the challenger sale for success: Jennifer transitioned from a relationship-building to a challenger by reading The Challenger Sale. Her first interpretation after reading the book? Tell prospects everything they were doing wrong. Unsurprisingly, that didn't work that well. She failed to engage in a two-way dialogue and didn't offer a space for the prospect to interact and engage. The takeaway? You have to earn the privilege to say they're doing something wrong. Have an observation about the company, look for something the company is trying to achieve and determine the company's end-state goal. If it's a public company, see if they're trying to acquire AI or how they're trying to grow. Express curiosity in the end goal. Have something of value to share, whether right or wrong. Either way, it's something to think about. If it's a private company, look to the CEO's LinkedIn page or an exec's podcast and see if they convey any information. Bringing something of value to the prospect throughout the sales experience is a compelling reason for the prospect to work with you. Stop using sales buzz words and figure out how you can bring something to the table. Jennifer's major takeaway? Keep a log of what each company is missing, and what happened to make you realize that particular thing was lacking. As you grow that log, you'll have an easier time when identifying other companies. Publishing chains like Gannett are selling off some of their smaller papers to truly local owners. Brian Stelter speaks with two beneficiaries of this trend: Jennifer Allen, the new owner of the Hot Springs Village Voice in Arkansas, and Carol Wyatt, the returning editor of two local papers in Florida, the Holmes County Times-Advertiser and the Washington County News. Wyatt talks about rebuilding the papers by returning "to covering the local issues." She says "we are the scrapbooks of our community; we are the keeper of milestones... Even something as simple as publishing the school district's honor roll plays a part in why the community looks to their local paper." She and Allen discuss the advantages, challenges and "growing pains" they've experienced in transitioning back to "hyperlocal" ownership.
