Artworks that unfold over time – like videos and software based works – are a different thing altogether. These artworks are made using cutting-edge technologies that are constantly being updated. If the “canvas” or medium an artwork is made on keeps shifting, how do art conservators protect these works from obsolescence? Jen Dalton did a great show this summer at Mother-In-Laws, a wonderful, experimental art space in Germantown, run by Jessica Hargreaves, Kathleen Vance and Daniel Aycock Here's a quote from the press release of Jen's exhibition that will highlight the genesis in topics we covered in this emotionally transparent session: There is so much to apologize for. And almost everyone does a terrible job of it, when they try at all. No amount of money seems to smooth the process from mistakes and bad behavior to self-awareness and reckoning. Famous people are terrible role models in this regard, as so in so many others; their vague, slow-to-emerge statements are designed to imply the bare minimum of contrition and help their careers survive another day. Each text is a shrewdly-honed gem that its crafters hope will dissipate a controversy or deflect attention; taken all together they expose the values of those in power and our culture at large. We're living through a boom-time for disingenuousness, gaslighting and DARVO*, wholly of a piece with the faux authenticity seen elsewhere in our culture. Mistakes Were Made connects some of these dots. More about this exhibition and photos HERE: https://www.frontroomles.com/motherinlawsarchive Also—there were so many great artists that Jen curated into the show: Featuring: Chloë Bass, Celeste Fichter, Ghost of a Dream, Susan Hamburger, Lisa Levy, Alyssa McClenaghan, Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, Sal Muñoz, Andrew Ohanesian, William Powhida, Marshall Reese and Nora Ligorano, Michelle Vaughan, Senon Williams.

As an artist, academic, and a cofounder to an art technology company called Monograph, Kevin McCoy brings a unique perspective to the idea of authorship & ownership in its application to the digital and internet art scene. Established in 2014, Monegraph aimed to solve issues of provenance and legitimacy artists and collectors face when selling and buying digital art works. In this episode, we speak with Kevin about how Monegraph was received in its initial years, why provenance matters in the art world, and what some of the hurdles are facing digital and new media artists today.-About Kevin McCoy-His artworks take many diverse forms including video sculpture and installation, photography, long-form film, curatorial practice and performance, kinetic sculpture and software-driven on-line projects. Thematically, his work explores changing conditions around social roles, categories, genres and forms of value. His primary research questions ask 'What counts as new,’ 'How is meaning established,' and 'How are cultural memories formed'. He has worked collaboratively with Jennifer McCoy for many years to try to answer what it means to speak together, often finding that experience outstrips available modes of presentation and discourse. To these ends their work has adopted many methodological approaches: exhaustive categorization, recreation and reenactment, automation, miniaturization, and most recently remote viewing and speculative modeling. In New York City, his work has been exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, P.S.1, Postmasters Gallery, The Museum of Modern Art, The New Museum, and Smack Mellon. International exhibitions include projects at the Pompidou Center, the British Film Institute, ZKM, the Hanover Kunstverien, the Bonn Kunstverein, and F.A.C.T. (Liverpool, UK). Grants include a 2002 Creative Capital Grant for Emerging Fields, a 2005 Wired Rave Award, and a 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship. Articles about his work have appeared in Art in America, Artforum, Flash Art, Art News, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Newsweek. Residencies include work at the Headlands Center for the Arts, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. His artwork is represented by in New York by Postmasters Gallery and in Geneva by Gallerie Guy Bartschi and can be seen in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and MUDAM in Luxembourg. In 2014 he co-founded monegraph.com a platform that uses the technology underlying Bitcoin to provide a mechanism for validating, owning and trading digital media assets. The project was presented at The New Museum as part of Rhizome's seven on seven conference and at Tech Crunch Disrupt in New York. His teaching engages both undergraduate and graduate students in studio art and related arts professions and addresses practical and theoretical uses of digital media technology together with surveys of related theoretical and philosophical texts. In this episode, Canada launches contest for 88 fighter jets, assembling the First Arctic patrol ship is on the way at the Halifax Shipyard and the steps needed to integrate the Australian F-18s into the current Royal Canadian Air Force's fighter fleet. Show Notes: The main structural components of the Royal Canadian Navy's first Arctic patrol ship have been assembled at the Halifax Shipyard. The ship is expected to be launched at the Halifax Shipyard next summer. "As the first ship of the class, having the future HMCS Harry DeWolf assembled at land level is a significant milestone," Kevin McCoy, president of Irving Shipbuilding, said in a statement. Canada launches contest for 88 fighter jets The Canadian government is launching a competition to buy a new fleet of 88 fighter jets and officials confirmed Tuesday they will also be buying an interim fleet of 18 jets from Australia rather than from Boeing. According to Global News, a clause in the announcement effectively suggests that if Boeing wants to bid on the competition itself, it better back down in its trade challenge of Bombardier. “When bids are assessed, any bidder that is responsible for harm to Canada's economic interests will be at a distinct disadvantage,” the press release states. That aspect of the announcement seems specifically aimed at Boeing. Officials said the cost is being estimated at roughly half a billion dollars for the interim replacement, while roughly $15 billion to $19 billion will be set aside for the full competition. Australian F-18s With the announcement to purchase Australian F-18 aircraft, Canada has issued a list of steps needed to integrate the Australian F-18s with the current fleet of Canada's CF-18s. Into the STEM program at Wheat Ridge High School. An exciting and refreshing look at how just one high school STEM program is making a difference that could one day engage students to join the automotive industry. The Wheat Ridge High School STEM program along with their University of Colorado Denver partner will be building two hydrogen fuel cell cars for the 2017-18 school year. One will once again be a Prototype vehicle along with an urban concept vehicle. They will both be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The competition, held annually in the Americas, Asia and Europe, provides a real-world environment for students to test vehicles they design and build themselves; with the goal of going the farthest distance using the least amount of energy. The Shell Eco-Marathon inspires young scientists and engineers to think about energy efficiency and offers them a platform to work on energy solutions in a practical manner. Wheat Ridge High School STEM is once again working towards having a Rover ready to compete in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in 2018! The competition will be held in Huntsville, Alabama on April 13th and 14th. They have submitted a model of a NASA Human Powered Rover that folds into a 5’ x 5’ x 5’ space. Drivers must prepare for the physical demands of the race. Peddle Power. They took second place in the NASA high school competition in 2017. Talking points: Wheat Ridge High was contacted by the University of Colorado-Denver to build a joint program. The challenge was to see if a college level senior design class would work at the high school if they had help from an instructor and support from the college. Permission was granted from the school Principal to put STEM on steroids. STEM: Science | Technology | Engineering | Math They started with 16 students and currently there are 80 students in the program. Eight students were at AAPEX for their presentation at ASA-CARS. They compete in the Shell Eco-Marathon against other colleges. Keep in mind this is high school STEM. Competition is for fuel efficiency. In 25 minutes you need to complete a 6-mile course. The team has won twice in the last three years. Carbon fiber is used for the body. They have many divisions and special work teams that work on the project. Design Driver Machining and metal working Body, Gear, Electrical and Steering Marketing to learn the business side They get funds to make the project viable. $30K to $50K a year Arduino Media Department All public facing on YouTube and Facebook 2017-2018 the vehicle is an urban concept car You must go through phases to qualify for the Shell Eco Challenge You get specs from Shell.
