Welcome to Get Bent!!! The Avatar recap podcast that aims to cover everything from "The Last Airbender" through "The Legend of Korra" and beyond! If you think it's time to re-watch this excellent TV show, or just are just getting into it now, why not sit down and enjoy it with two grown men and theiā¦
Special: Series Retrospective We've all come a long way, and It's time for us all to sit back and reflect. In this bonus episode, we'll figure out the five best (and worst) episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We'll also reflect on this podcast as a whole, and talk about where we plan on going from here. And a special thanks to everyone who's gone with us on this journey!
Season 3 Finale Sozin's Comet My oh my. Here we are. We've made it to the end. And what an ending it is. The two of us can barely contain our hype as we rewatch and recap the series finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender in this extra long jam packed podcast. Tune in as we discuss the finale, our overall thoughts on the show and its themes, and the future of this podcast.
Season 3 Episode 17 The Ember Island Players Hello everyone, welcome to the Ember Island Players. It's the episode that recaps Avatar: The Last Airbender and analyzes it just little. Ok, it mostly just takes the piss out of everything, but that also kinda describes this podcast. In fact, this episode basically does our job for us. So join us and our guest AJ as we officially let loose on all the Ember Island Players jokes we've been holding back.
Season 3 Episode 16 The Southern Raiders Welcome back to Get Bent!!! Today we're discussing the end of the "Field Trips With Zuko" arc with perhaps the heaviest episode of Avatar yet. AJ joins us as we ruminate on revenge, the cyclical nature of violence, and whether or not the game chooses to save Tom Petty (he's new).
The Dragon Prince Season 1 Episode 5 and 6 The good news is, we have all the episodes to the end of Avatar planned out! The bad news is we haven't been able to schedule the recording just yet, so to keep you satisfied, we have another look at The Dragon Prince. The throne stands empty, the princes are on the lam, and one question remains on everyone's mind; will Kevin be able to remember anyone's names? Listen on to find out!
Season 3 Episode 15 The Boiling Rock Part 2 Today we'll be discussing an excellent episode that is a major turning point in season 3. It also contains what may be the worst line of the series. Slim joins us once again as we talk about Azula's character and speculate on what Chit Sang's career was before his incarceration. Get ready to laugh awkwardly along with us.
Season 3 Episode 14 The Boiling Rock Part 1 Welcome back everyone! I hope the holidays were good to you! I know we're ready to hit the ground running in 2020, and we're gonna dive right in with another 2 parter. This time we're joined by Slim to talk about jails and breaking out of jails. It's time for us to start discussing Sokka's end game side quest. And possibly a long tangent about Alan Tudyk. Why do we talk about an actor who isn't even in this show? You'll just have to listen to find out!
Season 3 Episode 13 The Firebending Masters It's time for our first field trip with Zuko! This time Aang will join him on a journey to discover the secrets of Firebending. Meanwhile, us podcasters continue to see how crass we can be. If you like your Avatar podcast to be sprinkled with profanity and Rick and Morty references, than have I got the episode for you!
The Dragon Prince - Season 1 Episodes 3 and 4 Hey everyone, DJ and Kevin are sliding right into your feed for another Dragon Prince episode! This time we're tackling episodes 3 and 4 of Season 1. Wanna hear if Kevin is still enjoying it? Or what we think about General Amaya? Will Kevin ever remember any of these character's names? Listen in and find out!
Season 3 Episode 12 The Western Air Temple Hello. Get Bent here. Have we done that joke enough yet? Well today it's finally relevant, and the two of us felt the need to get it out of our system for good. And with that, we can start on the endgame of this series and finally welcome Zuko to team Avatar. Also, this episode is a lot less filthy than last week's, so that's a plus too!
Season 3 Episode 11 Day of Black Sun Part 2: The Eclipse I apologize in advance for how raunchy this one gets; we tackle some heavy subject matter with our usual irreverence and we might get a little out of hand. On the other hand, we have Alex back to help us discuss this truly amazing episode of Avatar. Get your eclipse glasses ready, and let's dive into the Fire Nation's darkest day.
Season 3 Episode 10 Day of Black Sun Part 1: The Invasion We've made it to a moment that has been slowly built up since episode 1 of this show! The Day of Black Sun! The invasion of the Fire Nation! Sokka giving a public speech! Join us and our special guest Alex as we fight em' on the beaches! This is the beginning of the end, and it's sure to be a fun time, jam packed with the same crass and tasteless jokes you've come to expect from Get Bent!!!
Season 3 Episode 9 Nightmares and Daydreams We're coming up to the big invasion; only 4 days until the Day of Black Sun! But did Aang forget about the mathematics test? It's the calm before the storm this week as Aang deals with some pre war jitters. This episode might not have the most substance, but it's pretty funny. Plus Momo and Appa have a samurai showdow.
Season 3 Episode 8 The Puppetmaster Happy Halloween everyone! As luck would have it, we have the perfect episode for this time of year. An episode featuring a spooky forest and an overly sinister old lady. Evii is going to be joining us once again to tell some spooky stories around the campfire. Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society (whether you like it or not), this is the tale of the Puppetmaster.
Season 3 Episode 7 The Runaway Toph is doing scams and Katara is unhappy about it. But that's not as important as the introduction of the radical new character Hawky! And of course the official naming of our new half metal exploding assassin. Join us and our frequent guest Craig (who might even spit some bars before the end) as we dive into an especially digression heavy episode of Get Bent!!! (Sorry for the tinny quality, we were using a different set-up today. Next episode will be back to normal. Also Fire Emblem 9 is, in fact, actually rated T for Teen.)
Season 3 Episode 6 The Avatar and the Firelord We're back from New York Comic-Con, and we bring with us glad tidings (and Craig). We also bring a little bit of con plague, so I'm sorry if this episode sounds a little sickly. On the bright side, we're covering an episode that is at least a contender for top 5 in the series. Can friendships transcend lifetimes (and podcasts)? Find out here.
Season 3 Episode 5 The Beach It's time for the obligatory beach episode, but this time we follow the villains. And it turns out they don't have an off switch for their antics, and neither do DJ and Jake. So join us as we let the beach smooth out our wrinkles and bear our souls. And perhaps a slightly uncomfortable amount of skin. As mentioned in the episode, DJ and Jake will be attending New York Comic-Con from Oct 3-6, so there may not be an episode on the 7th. But if you are in the New York City area, feel free to hit us up!
Season 3 Episode 4 Sokka's Master How do you feel about swords? I think you'll find that this a pro-sword podcast. How do you feel about Sokka? I think you'l find that this is a pro-Sokka podcast. How do you feel about montages. Our feelings on this subject may surprise you. But hey! We're finally back and ready to throw more episodes at you for our own sense of personal validation.
Hey everyone! Sorry the episodes have been scarce lately; both of us hosts have had separate, back to back vacations. Jake is still not back, but DJ is here to keep things going. Since Jake is out, DJ and Kevin are going to dive into the show that many people are calling a spiritual successor to Avatar; The Dragon Prince. Today we'll discuss the first 2 episodes and see if it can live up to it's pedigree.
Season 3 Episode 3 The Painted Lady DJ is going away on vacation, so here's an episode to tide you over, since we're missing another week. This time, it's the most filler of Season 3 episodes, but is this the best of the fillers? Albert joins us once again for a dip into this polluted and possibly irradiated river.
Season 3 Episode 2 The Headband Everybody get loose! This time we're joined once again by Albert as Aang and the gang invade the Fire Nation... with the power of dance! And we debate whether Aang is a smooth player or clingy little goblin, discuss the efficacy of laundry farms (run by laundry pirates of course), and get into the horrors of indoctrination and Fire Nation propaganda. Here's the link to the blog mentioned in the email. Check it out for a fan analysis of some of the shipping wars surrounding this series. WARNING: Contains end of series spoilers, read at your own risk https://aceofgallifrey.livejournal.com/
Season 3 Episode 1 The Awakening Two seasons down, one to go! A few weeks after the fall of Ba Sing Se, Aang wakes up to find that everyone thinks he's dead. He takes it very poorly. We also get to see Zuko's weird relationship with Mai, and we finally see the Firelord's face. Join us for this, as well as some weird tangents about corgis and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Season 2 Special The Lost Adventures We're between seasons now, so we thought we'd take a break to look at one of the comics. This time, it's "The Lost Adventures", a collection of short comics that were released either online, in Nickolodeon Magazine, or during Free Comic Book Day. They are woven into the canon of the show, but most of them are... kinda just fluff. Today we'll take a look at the comics set during Books 1 and 2.
We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you the Men of the Machine! We'll back back to normal next weekend with a Get Bent special episode, but to hold you over we have the culmination of our Halloween in July podcast collaboration. If you want to hear DJ, Jake, Kevin and Craig give our impressions on some classic horror movies, you're in the right place. Today we watched 1990's psychological thriller, Jacob's Ladder. This is actually the last in a four part series of films that we watched during the month of July. If you want to listen to the others, check out Men of the Machine on your podcatcher of choice. If this is not your cup of tea, then we'll see you back next week for more Avatar goodness.
Season 2 Episode 20 The Crossroads of Destiny We've finally made it to the end of season 2, and we find ourselves at a crossroads (of destiny). Is this episode everything we hyped it up to be? Can Zuko make the right choice? Was Aang right to chose happiness over power? Will we make it trough an entire podcast without making some horribly inappropriate joke? Join us and our guest Alex as we discuss this season finale, and reflect on season 2 as a whole. (Sorry about the late upload)
Season 2 Episode 19 The Guru Here we are, at the end of Season 2, and in the first half of the two part season finale. This episode is yet more buildup and a lot of wisdom about Chakras, but we'll have a good time anyway, even if our jokes get a little... blue. Join us and our special guest Alex, back for the first time since we did the movie!
Season 2 Episode 18 The Earth King Now that the gang has made themselves enemies of Long Feng and the Dai Li, they hatch a bold plan to storm the castle and force the Earth King to listen to them. Meanwhile, Zuko acts so out of character that the DM punishes him with a coma! And that's really all there is to this episode! But let's see if we can fill out the airtime anyway!
Season 2 Episode 17 Lake Lagai The Earth King invites you all to Lake Laogai. And when you get there, you'll see that the kid gloves are off for this episode. It's time for the search for Appa to come to an end as Team Avatar breaks some rules and confronts Long Feng. This one is worth seeing if you haven't been watching the show along with the podcast. Someone might even die!
Season 2 Episode `6 Appa's Lost Days Welcome back, acolytes. Welcome to our first Jake-less episode. This time, DJ is joined by AJ and Eviizard from the classic gaming Twitch stream, KnostalgicKnights! They all come together to discuss what may be one of the biggest downer episodes in all of Avatar - though that doesn't mean it's a bad episode. So press on to find out what we all think about this. As a fair warning, things get a little "political" during a tangent in this episode. I'm leaving it in because I don't think basic human decency should be a political issue
Season 2 Episode 15 Tales of Ba Sing Se Here it is episode! Sorry for the late upload, but it's finally time to discuss the much anticipated "Tales of Ba Sing Se", which is an amazing... filler episode? Is it really a filler episode? To help us figure that out, we've brought on a very special guest; Eviizard - co-host of the Knostalgicknights Twitch Stream! And we might even read an actual email this time! Come and join us for this emotional roller coaster of an episode!
Season 2 Episode 14 City of Walls and Secrets Hey everyone! Sorry for skipping a week; us hosts were both busy with some life stuff, which we'll talk about in podcast. But now we're back, and what a nice episode to come back to. We're beginning to build toward the finale of season 2, and the intrigue is ramping up as Team Avatar finally arrives in Ba Sing Se. This time, we'll talk about some good directing and some of those voice actors (and screen actors) you've heard everywhere but might not recognize. ...And yes, the typo is intentional.
Season 2 Episode 13 The Drill So... this episode is basically just one big battle. And us such, there's a bit less to work with when it comes to our normal over analyzing. So instead we get dick jokes. Oh so many dick jokes. I apologize in advance for everything you are about to hear.
Season 2 Episode 12 The Serpent's Pass It's time to go to Ba Sing Se, and what better way than traversing the absurdly dangerous Serpent's Pass along side a family of plot devices! DJ, Jake, and our guest Kevin from Men of the Machine will be your guides and will help identify the dangers of the Serpent's Pass (hint: it starts with an S) P.S. The rap song that references Outlaw Star is "Verses of Doom" by Jeru the Damaja.
Season 2 Episode 11 The Desert Remember kids, Winners Don't Do Cactus Juice. But sometimes losers will recap episodes of Avatar on the internet. And this is a good episode to be recapping, featuring a little bit of everything that makes this show great and launching headfirst into the Lost Appa arc. And we're joined once again by Kevin from Men of the Machine, this time to talk about things that are not Kevin Smith related (but we still talk about Kevin Smith a little). And maybe, just maybe, we'll learn some facts about buzzard wasp honey.
It's been spoken of in hushed whispers until now, but we're finally gonna do it! After much anticipation, here we are! We're going through not one, but all 6 episodes of the ill-fated "Clerks: The Animated Series"! Did it age well? Is it worth seeking out? We'll be joined by Kevin (not Smith) from Men of the Machine to go over this lost project from Kevin (Smith).
Season 2 Episode 10 The Library This time we'll spend our podcast... AT THE LIBRARY! This is an episode where... not as much ground was covered as we thought. But it's still an interesting episode that gives the plot a new direction and introduces another creepy spirit. And we have Craig back yet again to tell us how he feels about the foxy librarians.
Season 2 Episode 9 Bitter Work It's time to talk about an episode we all forgot about. But that's not why we're bitter. No, it turns out this episode of Avatar is really good. But the guest we had lined up bailed at the last minute, and I promised I would roast him on air if he did! So join DJ, Jake, and our honorary 3rd host Craig as we talk about a great episode while dragging our lazy friend. Don't worry, we talk much more about Avatar than people you don't know or care about. (Sorry Albert, you were warned.)
Season 2 Episode 8 The Chase This time, we check back in with team Avatar to see how they're adjusting to their new companion. Turns out - not very well. And to top it all off they're being chased by a bunch of very angry ladies. Is this a great episode, or a bunch of teenage bullshit? Our guest Slim is back to help us discuss this episode.
WE'RE BACK! After our little April Fools break, it's good be back into Avatar. And what a good episode of Avatar we have this week! That's right, it's time for Zuko Alone! And we have yet another returning guest, Slim, back in the studio to talk about why this episode is a real masterpiece.
Sorry for the late upload! But it's finally here; the oft referenced episode, "The Blind Bandit", finally gets it's day on this podcast. Is it as great as we remember, or did we hype it up too much? I'm not gonna waste any more time in this intro, just give us a listen to find out our thoughts! ...Water Triiiiibe~
Season 2 Episode 1 Avatar Day It's that time of year again! Get out your un-fried dough and get ready to celebrate Avatar Day! It's less of a holiday and more of an okay episode of Avatar. But we're gonna discuss it. Other topics we'll discuss include Avatar Kiyoshi's disregard for human life, the true meaning of justice, and just who was in Sokka's mouth? ...You disgust me, ya filthy animals!
Season 2 Episode 3 The Swamp Hey kids. Today we need to talk about something very serious. Today we're here to talk to you about swamps. Swamps are living things, and everything is interconnect. A swamp might be your own brother or sister, in a metaphysical sense. We'll be joined by our friend and social media guy Jason to discuss this, as well as old Flash cartoons, Mike Meyer's career, the current state of the porn industry, and maybe even an episode of avatar. There'll be swamp hillbillies. You'll like it.
Season 2 Episode 3 Return to Omashu The Aang gang makes it back to Omashu, but the city isn't looking as good as they left it. Meanwhile, Azula needs to form a small, elite team. And we get to talk with our unofficial social media director, Jason. We'll discuss everything from grumpy bearded freedom fighters to the ethics of kidnapping babies.
It's time to tell a tale; a tale of two lovers and their secret tunnel. A tale of two podcasters and their guest Craig. A tale where we argue over the meaning of the word "titular" way too much. A tale that is ultimately filler, but it's at least good filler.
Season 2 Episode 1 The Avatar State It's time to kick off Season 2, and we get a solid episode to do so with. Today we'll learn more about the Avatar State, and we'll also introduce Season 2's major villain. I know some people have been waiting for this! To help us out, we've invited back veteran guest Craig to keep us on track and to stop us from forgetting the ending of the episode we just watched.
It's finally here! Finally time to dig into the live action, M. Night Shamalayan disaterpiece that is The Last Airbender. This movie's reputation precedes it, but we're gonna try to give it a fair shake. This is our biggest episode yet; twice the length and double the guests. We have Alex returning to the show, and we also have Christine who is not just new to the podcast but new to Avatar in general.
Season 1 Episode 20 The Siege of the North: Part 2 This is it folks! The season finale of both Avatar, and of Get Bent!!! In this episode, we talk about Back to The Future, Jonestown, the grim specter of death, and maybe Avatar the Last Airbender. Oh, and that Face Stealer is pretty cool too. And I guess we also have Albi back, so that's nice. Thanks for sticking with us up to this point, and here's to many more episodes to come!
Season 1 Episode 19 The Siege of the North: Part 1 This is it folks! We're in the first part of the season 1 finale. And what a finale it is! Well ok, the first part is mostly build up, but thanks to our new guest Albi, we all have a good time. Do our shitty innuendos go too far this time? I guess you'll just have to find out!
Season 1 Episode 18 The Water Bending Master Hey everybody, wanna do an activity? By which I mean listen to us discuss this episode of Avatar, "The Water Bending Master". We are joined again by series newbie Franee as we learn that Sokka is a homewrecker and that you can't simply beat years of sexism out of an old man. Also, Zuko dies!
Welcome back everyone, to an exciting episode! Not of Avatar, this one is kinda eh - but this podcast marks our first bit of actual fan-mail! Not only that, but we've achieved our dream of bringing in someone who has no knowledge of Avatar whatsoever - our new guest Franee! Enjoy the episode, and write us more fan mail at getairbent@gmail.com.
Today we're taking a look at a more serious episode of Avatar after last weeks shenanigans, and we're joined again by our guest Jimmy to do so. This episode features even more roasts of our close friends, so some people will appreciate that. It will also feature discussions of movies that kids shouldn't watch, post traumatic stress disorder, and and whether or not firebending smells like farts.
