This week, Geektown Radio heads to MCM Comic Con London for a special episode recorded around one of the UK's biggest pop culture events, which took over ExCeL London for a packed weekend of TV, film, games, anime, comics, cosplay, panels and general geeky mayhem.Dave went down to the convention for the weekend, although sadly Darryl had to drop out after being struck down ill, leaving Dave to tackle the heat, the crowds, the press room, and as many panels as one person could physically manage! In the episode, Dave chats about the MCM experience, including the cosplay, the show floor, the strange relief of stepping into an air-conditioned convention centre during a 32C London weekend, and catching up with some brilliant comic creators. That includes Neil Gibson's Twisted Comics, who now have a comic book adaptation of Black Mirror's USS Callister, and Beyond The Bunker Comics, the wonderfully bonkers minds behind Moon and the new The Trap Door comic. The main bulk of the episode features clips and interviews from across the weekend, including Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk, best known together from Firefly, Con Man and The Rookie, as they share some very funny convention stories. We also hear from the Hellaverse panel, hosted by CJ Allen, with Richard Steven Horvitz, Vivian Nixon and Erika Henningsen discussing Helluva Boss, Hazbin Hotel, renewal news, voice recording, and the chaos Brandon Rogers can bring to a session. There are also clips from the Beyond Paradise panel with Kris Marshall, Zahra Ahmadi, Dylan Llewellyn and Felicity Montagu, as they talk about the hit Death In Paradise spin-off.Finally, Dave plays the full press room interview with the cast of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, featuring Dee Bradley Baker, Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, Nika Futterman and Catherine Taber, as they discuss the legacy of the much-loved animated series, their characters, the fans, and the wider Star Wars universe. There will also be video versions of some panels and interviews going up on the Geektown YouTube channel, along with cosplay and event photos on Geektown.co.uk.Listen below, and don't forget to subscribe to Geektown Radio wherever you get your podcasts.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Journey back to a time of loincloth-clad heroes, questionable special effects, and magical quests as Enjoy Stuff dives into the wild world of 80s sword and sorcery films. Shua and Jay explore the legends, the laughs, and the low-budget chaos of this unforgettable fantasy era. From evil sorcerers to heroic barbarians, we celebrate the movies that tried to ride the fantasy wave and sometimes hilariously missed. Grab your glaive and prepare for adventure! News The new Masters of the Universe trailer makes the film look pretty exciting The first two episodes of Maul: Shadow Lord are now available, with a total of 10 episodes releasing two per week through May 4th. A PAC-MAN themed restaurant called "Chomp Stop" is open at Angel Stadium, bringing arcade-style snacks and nostalgia. Maxell has reintroduced a modern cassette player with Bluetooth, USB-C charging, and that classic retro vibe. Alan Tudyk will be inducted as a Disney Legend alongside notable names like Bob Iger and Lin-Manuel Miranda at D23 in August 2026. Actor James Tolkan, known for roles in Back to the Future and Top Gun, has passed away at age 81. Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Jay has been diving into The Anatomy of Genres by John Truby, a deep exploration of storytelling structure that breaks down what makes different genres tick. He's been enjoying how it analyzes narrative "beats" and provides insight into crafting compelling stories across multiple genres. Shua has been getting creative with sculpting, using leftover clay to craft a fun bobble-head of a school mascot. He also created a Mother's Day gift by sculpting figures of his two dogs. Sci-Fi Saturdays - This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay spotlights Ready Player One (2018), a visually exciting adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel. While it differs from the book, the film still delivers a fun and accessible dive into a pop culture-filled dystopia, making it a worthwhile watch for both fans and newcomers. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. This week he's added some new locations from Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU. Enjoy the Loin Cloth! Step into a misty realm of magic, monsters, and muscles as Shua and Jay return to the age of sword and sorcery films. Inspired by the success of early fantasy hits, the 1980s unleashed a wave of low-budget adventures filled with epic quests, dramatic villains, and plenty of unintentional comedy. We explore what made these films so memorable, even when they weren't exactly "good." Along the way, they discuss a variety of films that defined (or tried to define) the genre, from cult classics to bizarre oddities. And Jay plays a fun game that challenges him to distinguish between barbarian names and heavy metal bands. What's your favorite sword and sorcery movie? Let us know! Dust off your brown coats and aim to misbehave! This week on the Dungeon Crawlers Podcast, we are breaking down the "Big Signal" heard across the Verse: the official announcement of a Firefly animated revival. With the original cast, including Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk, confirmed to return to their iconic roles, the crew of the Serenity is finally flying again. We dive into the details of the new series, which is set to bridge the gap between the original show and the movie Serenity. Plus, don't miss the main event: Krebs joins the desk to share his unfiltered thoughts on this cult classic's return. Is an animated format the right move for the franchise? How will they handle the timeline? And most importantly, can they truly "keep the sky from us" after 24 years?
Actor Alan Tudyk (Arrested Development, Rogue One, Resident Alien) and comedian and actor Jade Catta-Preta (Modern Family, Life in Pieces, The Soup on E!) join Jameela for an episode that somehow ends up exactly where you'd expect, and nowhere you could have predicted.Alan's micro humiliation arrives courtesy of a chance encounter with a Disney executive, a case of mistaken identity, and the particular horror of confidently addressing the wrong powerful man by the wrong name to his face. His Big Wrong Turn takes us to a casual industry football game, where Alan shows up with brand new boots bought the day before, immediately starts playing what can only be described as rug-ball, gets demoted to goalie, concedes three goals, and is the only person in Los Angeles not invited for drinks afterwards.Jade's micro humiliation unfolds live on Watch What Happens, when an attempt to remove a stray hair from Andy Cohen's face reveals that it is very much still attached to him. Her Big Wrong Turn takes us back to a school production that cemented her fate as the default ethnic casting choice for every role going, from Lola in Damn Yankees to Scary Spice, not because she was the best fit, but because she was the only brown person in the building. In place of this week's Misery Loves Company, Jameela shares the story of paying for a friend's IVF to avoid becoming a godmother, only to watch that friend meet her sperm donor the night before the procedure and immediately render the whole thing completely unnecessary.Watch Alan Tudyk in Resident Alien on Sci-Fi and Peacock, and in Superman. After surviving Thanksgiving and the subsequent biting cold, we jumped into the FOLLOW UP with news that Malaysia is joining the trend by taking steps to ban social media for children under 16, mirroring similar actions in Australia and Denmark—it seems the world is finally realizing the internet is a toxic wasteland for the kids. We also discussed Apple's photo AI, which is apparently still in beta, if the results are anything to go by. The bulk of our discussion centered on the spectacular, flaming death of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is Officially Dead. We broke down a brief rundown of the damages this vanity project caused, from humanitarian disasters overseas to administrative chaos and the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs domestically, proving the "savings" were pure illusion. Now, with the collapse, the 'Suddenly exposed' DOGE employees fear prosecution after Musk abandoned them, learning the hard way that billionaire guardianship has an expiration date. The job market is just great, with both Apple laying off part of its sales team despite record revenue, and HP joining the List of Tech Companies Cutting Jobs and pointing to AI as the convenient scapegoat for laying off 10% of their workforce. Meanwhile, we found out the most popular social media platform among US adults isn't Instagram or TikTok—it's YouTube—while Meta allegedly buried research showing its products are harming users, confirming what we've known all along: they're evil, but they already got your grandma hooked. Adding to the misery, An Alarming Number of Teens Say They Turn To AI For Company, Study Finds, because why talk to a real, messy human when a bot can gaslight you more efficiently? Sam Altman's financial troubles are spilling over, with Sam Altman's Business Buddies Are Getting Stung (sorry, SoftBank and Oracle), and analysts estimate OpenAI Is Just $200 Billion Away From Still Losing Money, HSBC Says, a comical hole they plan to fill by asking for more free money. Legally, OpenAI can't use the Word ‘Cameo' in Sora now, thanks to a trademark suit, and Warner Music is playing both sides by dropping its lawsuit against Suno in exchange for a licensing agreement. Finally, in some truly dark news, a Marc Andreessen-backed Super-PAC Pours Millions Into Fighting State AI Regulations, and X's new location feature reveals that New X Feature Reveals Many MAGA Patriots on X Are Not Even Based in the U.S.After ranting about my misery dealing with the Open Dialogue bug in a beta build and declaring my return to "pedestrian releases," we got into APPS & DOODADS. Spotify is actually doing something cool with its new SongDNA feature, which shows you who sampled what (and they bought WhoSampled to do it). They're also testing Spotify's New AI-powered audiobook Recaps to remind you where you left off—Amazon is doing the same with AI-powered series Recap Videos for Prime Video. Amazon is also rolling out Alexa Home Theater surround sound for Echo speakers, making those budget speakers slightly more useful. We ran through some great stocking stuffers in Jason's Holiday Gift Guide, including Velcro cable ties and the Contigo travel mug, before moving on to MEDIA CANDY, which included Dan Carlin's Common Sense, Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk's new podcast Once We Were Spacemen, and a discussion on why Stranger Things Lost the Plot. We then got deeply uncomfortable talking about a Toronto ASMR spa that offers doctor roleplay, and closed out by talking about the documentary Quiet Please… about the neurological disorder misophonia. The Roald Dahl Retrospective is back after an almost two year hiatus. In this episode, Arun, Patricia, and special guest Eli a.k.a. The Hero of Tomorrow discuss about the 2025 Netflix animated film The Twits based on the 1980 film of the same name starring Margo Martindale, Johnny Vegas, Emilia Clarke, Natalie Portman, and Alan Tudyk,. Mr. and Mrs. Twit are an evil, gross couple who play pranks on one another. They open a theme park called Twitlandia to attract people into giving them money only for it to shut down immediately. They also drive a truck filled with hot dog filling and shove it into the town's silo to make a huge mess everywhere. A young orphan girl named Beesha and her best friend Bubsy learn about Twitlandia and want to go there, but then learned it's ran by the same people who covered the town with hot dog filling. They get them arrested and find out they have been locking up and abusing a family of monkeys called Mugglewumps into using their tears to run Twitlandia. They set them free, but then things turn for the worse when Mr. and Mrs. Twit are out of jail and are running for mayor when they promise to make the town great again by reopening Twitlandia to generate money and convince the townspeople that Beesha is bad for stealing the Mugglewumps, the only source of power to make Twitlandia run successfully. When the film premiered on Netflix, it received mixed to negative reviews from critics and fans criticizing its gross humor, its strange art style, its forgettable musical numbers, its social and political commentary, and not fitting into the spirit of the book. What did Arun, Patricia, and Eli think of this film?

Each brings a gritty dose of stunt driving, dusty revenge tales, and western-style grit that scratches his cinematic itch. Together they make for the perfect recipe of adrenaline and vintage attitude. Shua has been loving the podcast Once We Were Spacemen, hosted by Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. Their conversations with fellow creatives tap into the fun, nostalgic energy of their Firefly days. It's insightful, funny, and ideal for anyone who loves behind-the-scenes stories. Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk are bored or something because they started a podcast that doesn't have any purpose or direction. I guess these guys are used to people telling them that they're hilarious or something. They were both on Firefly, a show that only lasted one season 23 years ago. But don't worry, that kinda has nothing to do with anything. Trucker Andy joins the show to marvel at the foley work and draw comparisons to Hollywood Handbook. Happy Tuesday, everyone! Today's episode was such a blast. I'm talking with none other than the amazing Alan Tudyk! Alan is currently starring as Harry Vanderspeigle in the new season of Resident Alien. He also plays K-2SO in Andor, Hoban ‘Wash' Washburne in Firefly, Wat in A Knight's Tale and so so many iconic voice roles, including Valentino in Wish and the Duke of Weselton in Frozen. We have so much fun in this conversation and I loved learning more about Alan's journey from doing stand-up in a Holiday Inn, to Juilliard dropout, to working with some of the biggest names in Sci-Fi. Plus, we get to bond over our experience in the Star Wars universe and what it's like to be be part of a franchise that fans desperately want to revive (Battlestar for me, Firefly for him).
