Tis the season for reading Previews, falalala lalalala. Well okay fine, it's always the season to read Previews, but it is especially so come December! Ian, Murd and Chris (who sticks around until Marvel is done) discuss their choice choices within Diamond Previews issue 411, DC Connect issue 31, and Marvel Previews Vol 6 issue 15, with books mostly set for release in February 2023. Highlights include the return of Superman and his corresponding book, a whole lot of Paco Medina art in X-Men's Sins of Sinister event, Fleecs and Seeley's Local Man, and there's a few romance books to be found, but there's also a surprising amount of horror titles all over the catalogs; take that to mean whatever you'd like it to mean. Plus, we peruse the Free Comic Book Day selections that will be available come May 2023, when the weather is warm once more and snow is a distant memory! (2:40:37)
Join Ivy and Dari as they watch and talk about Say Uncle and cover such topics as whether Daria plans to seek out and watch Uncle Grandpa, the lol-random humor, the best joke in the episode, the one-Steve limit, the Crystal Gems' desire to murder Uncle Grandpa, our opinion of crossovers in general, the fan reception of the episode, background for why the crossover was made, Pearl's freakouts, and shipping Lion with Giant Realistic Flying Tiger. Probing Question: Uncle Grandpa is a fourth-wall-breaking character. Would Steven Universe be able to break the fourth wall in an actual canon episode? It's feast day for Star Wars comics this week with three new comics -- the Revelations one-shot, Yoda #1 (of 10) and Hyperspace Stories #3 (of 12) -- and the Tales From the Rancor Pit original graphic novel. As a result, this is a longer episode than normal, but it should offer up some guidance, particularly where Marc Guggenheim's Revelations one-shot is concerned. Meanwhile, Hyperspace Stories #3 captures the endearing aspect of Finn and Poe perfectly, while we're treated to a side of Yoda that's rarely seen. Welcome to AXE-Lapsed! Kicking off the X-Lapsed coverage of the Summer-into-Fall, 2022 Crossovent, AXE: Judgment Day! Today, we're taking a look at three short subjects from two of Marvel's 2022 Free Comic Book Day offerings - two from FCBD 2022: Avengers/X-Men #1 and one story with a surprise X-Twist from FCBD 2022: Spider-Man/Venom #1! All three stories are fun... and offer your humble host some (uncharacteristic?) optimism about the near future of the X-Books! In this week's episode, we offer a warning. The Bone Orchard Mythos from Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino represents a layer of dread not previously explored by the creators. The new shared universe from Image Comics is the first time Lemire and Sorrentino have fully plunged themselves into the horror genre. Oh, you thought Gideon Falls was creepy? Sure, it got under your skin, but as you'll hear in our conversation with Lemire and Sorrentino, The Bone Orchard Mythos finds the collaborators daring to unleash a horror experience unlike anything else they've committed. Your first chance to dive into The Bone Orchard Mythos arrives on May 7th, Free Comic Book Day, when Lemire and Sorrentino unveil their Prelude single issue. The next chapter, the original graphic novel The Passageway, lands in comic book shops on June 15th and in bookstores on June 21st. Next, they'll drop their Ten Thousand Black Feathers mini-series in September. And that's just the beginning. Be sure to stay updated with Jeff Lemire by visiting his Twitter HERE, his Instagram HERE, and his Substack HERE. Track Andrea Sorrentino via his Twitter HERE and his Instagram HERE.
