Following a U.N. report accusing Israel of war crimes, Margaret Hoover sits down with Dan Senor, a former foreign policy aide to Mitt Romney and the host of the podcast “Call Me Back,” to the daring rescue of four Israeli hostages in Gaza, prospects for a cease-fire, and the new U.N. report accusing both Hamas and Israel of war crimes. Senor defends how Israel has conducted the war, arguing that while civilian deaths are inevitable in any conflict, the Israel Defense Forces have done all they can to protect innocent lives in Gaza. He says that while individual Israeli soldiers may have done “stupid things,” Israel is “fighting war” that was inflicted upon it by Hamas. Senor also notes that Hamas hides its fighters amid Palestinian civilians in an effort to maximize the suffering inflicted on the people of Gaza — an attempt, he says, to put Israel in an “impossible position” and make the Jewish State an international pariah.  Senor is the author of “The Genius of Israel,” a book that looks at the resilience of Israeli society despite its internal conflicts and the numerous wars it has fought with neighboring states and terrorist groups. An outspoken defender of Israel, Senor discusses whether it's just a matter of time before the IDF is sent to fight Hezbollah, the powerful Lebanon-based militant group backed by Iran. C dans l'air du 20 février - La veuve, la mère, la fille... Les Navalny au combat Elle a décidé de reprendre le flambeau. Après la mort de l'opposant russe Alexeï Navalny, sa veuve, Ioulia Navalnaïa a promis lundi de poursuivre le combat contre le maître du Kremlin. "Poutine a tué mon mari, le père de mes enfants. Et avec lui, il a voulu tuer notre espoir, notre liberté, notre futur. Je poursuivrai l'œuvre d'Alexeï Navalny. Je continuerai pour notre pays, avec vous. Et je vous appelle tous à vous tenir près de moi (…) "Ce n'est pas une honte de faire peu, c'est une honte de ne rien faire, de se laisser effrayer" a-t-elle déclaré dans une vidéo publiée sur les réseaux sociaux quelques heures avant de s'adresser lundi aux ministres des Affaires étrangères de l'Union européenne (UE) à Bruxelles. "N'oubliez jamais que la Russie n'est pas Poutine et que Poutine n'est pas la Russie", a-t-elle alors lancé aux ministres européens, les exhortant à “faire davantage pour cibler” le président russe et ses alliés. Un rôle nouveau pour cette femme charismatique, économiste de formation qui a toujours fait front avec son mari depuis qu'il est devenu une figure de l'opposition très médiatisée, dès 2007, mais a toujours préféré rester derrière lui. Jusqu'ici elle avait toujours repoussé tous les appels à se lancer en politique mais depuis la mort de celui dont Vladimir Poutine ne prononce jamais le nom, elle a décidé de faire un pas en avant pour adresser un signal d'espoir à une opposition orpheline de sa figure la plus charismatique. Et les autorités russes l'ont bien compris. Le porte-parole du Kremlin, Dmitri Peskov a ainsi rejeté mardi les accusations "grossières et infondées" de la veuve d'Alexeï Navalny alors que sur les réseaux sociaux elle est visée par de nombreuses infox pour la discréditer. Alors qui est Ioulia Navalnaïa ? Peut-elle rallumer le feu d'une opposition qui peine à exister en Russie ? Quelles sont les autres figures de l'opposition russe ? Si nombre d'entre elles sont actuellement emprisonnées ou ont dû prendre le chemin de l'exil comme la journaliste Marina Ovsiannikova, connue pour avoir brandi en direct à la télévision une pancarte "No War", en Russie des femmes osent également encore défier Vladimir Poutine et notamment des mères. Ainsi la mère d'Alexeï Navalny a appelé ce mardi 20 février le maître du Kremlin à lui remettre "sans délai" le corps de l'opposant russe afin de "pouvoir l'enterrer de façon humaine". Mais elle n'est pas la seule. D'autres réclament depuis de longs mois le retour du front ukrainien de leurs maris, de leurs fils, de leurs frères et contrarient par leurs actions hebdomadaires les autorités russes qui ont bien en tête le mouvement des mères de soldats qui s'est avéré crucial lors de la guerre en Tchétchénie. Des femmes qui auprès de Vladimir Poutine jouent également un rôle très important. Depuis une vingtaine d'années, le maître du Kremlin, très discret sur sa vie personnelle, entretiendrait une relation discrète avec l'ex-gymnaste rythmique Alina Kabaeva, même si tous deux le nient. Un temps résidente suisse, elle est depuis devenue députée, puis dirigeante d'un grand groupe de médias privés. Elle est aujourd'hui l'une des femmes les plus puissantes de Russie tout comme les filles de Vladimir Poutine et son ex-femme (et leur mère) Lyudmila Putina.
