In this episode of Korea 101, we talk about what we know or what we THINK we know about the K-Pop industry. As K-Pop becomes more widespreading, we realize that it is a topic we should discuss. All three of us have experience of being a K-Pop fan (or stan) and have heard many things about the entertainment industry, both positive and negative. These are solely opinions based on our personal thoughts and experiences, so please do not take our word for it. Hope you enjoy! Visit our Instagram: @kalpalspodcast Music: Beyond - Patrick Patrikios
TRIGGER WARNING: This episode and the following description contain details of dieting experiences, restricting caloric intake, and thoughts of eating disorders DISCLAIMER: We do not in any way encourage eating disorders or attempting of the extreme diets mentioned in the podcast episode. This was a heavy topic for us to talk about, and we assume it may be for some of our listeners. In this episode, we talk about meeting the beauty standards and how these standards in Korea may compare to those of America. We also talk about our experiences with various types of diets to lose weight or somehow work towards the body image we wish to achieve. Body positivity is embracing the physical appearance of oneself, regardless of society's standards and expectations. We completely agree with the concept of body positivity, and as you may tell, it is something we are still working to achieve. We are growing to understand that there are so many more factors that define us as individuals than just weight or body shape, and we wish that our listeners would feel the same about themselves. We wish that our listeners would be able to listen to this episode solely to relate and reflect on their personal experiences. Music: Snake on the Beach - Nico Staf

DISCLAIMER: No one in KAL Pals has had any experience with smoking, heavy drinking, or drug usage and does not encourage such behavior in any way. In this episode, the KAL Pals talk about their experiences/encounters with people who have taken part in such activities and the impact it had on them overall. All three members are 17, becoming legal adults in less than a year (although fully aware that the legal age to drink/smoke is 21 in the state they reside), and thought it might be a topic that would eventually be relevant to them, since they would be leaving for college soon. These are purely the perspectives of the KAL Pal members and we are not in any way saying smoking, drinking, or taking part in drug usage is good or bad. We understand different people live under different circumstances and may have different says on the topic, and we respect every person's view. Lois is absent today because of some personal but not so personal issues. We will get further into these details when she returns with some motivation (hopefully). ANYWAY, Amy and Kristen talk about their experiences at school and some sudden life changes that happened in a span of a week. As they get used to our new classes, they deal with great stresses and different people that revert our mindset to survive another sad year of high school. Also, Amy has an exciting encounter with a spider mid-recording, so when she screams in terror, please know that is the part she is face-to-face with a daddy-long-legs hanging from her ceiling. We would like to formally introduce our new series: KAL & Korea 101, where we talk about our own experiences, lessons, and interests as Korean teenagers. In this episode, we talk about the parts of Korean culture and expected behaviors that were new to us as individuals living in the US and we feel like everyone should know about. We also mention how living in Korea may be difficult--or scary even---and some of the aspects that make us think so. In this episode, we have invited another special guest: Jessalyn Lee! Jessalyn has been friends with KAL Pals since middle school, and although she is now attending a different high school, the four friends meet and talk regularly. Jessalyn has been mentioned in previous episodes as Lois's close childhood friend and now the KAL Pals audience finally has the chance to meet her! Jessalyn is incredibly artistic, intellectual, and has many valuable experiences to share. KAL Pals (mostly Lois) and Jessalyn share their past experiences with dating and the lessons that they have learned. Warning: This week's episode is extremely "cringe" and may bring back some (unwanted) middle school memories. Please proceed with caution. In this episode, KAL Pals invited their very first special guest, Eva Ahn! She is an unofficial member of KAL Pals as her relationship with the KAL Pals has long and valuable history. To briefly introduce Eva, she's a great activist and role student who is known for her insightful ideas and feedback. The KAL Pals are honored to have Eva share her experiences on the podcast this week. One of the many things that KAL Pals have in common is that they are all the oldest child in their family. Welcome to another episode of the series, Just Spit It Out! We wanted to take a break from serious, heavy topics and talk about whatever came to mind. In this episode, we are finally addressing the main idea–or thesis–of our podcast. We originally started this podcast to talk more about our own identities and cultural differences that separate us from other people living in this country. For this week's episode, we discuss these differences and how they impact our life on a social level. We hope that many other Asian-Americans can relate to our experiences and non-Asian listeners could get an understanding of how their lives might differ from ours. KAL Pals realize that it is important to understand, embrace, and speak about these differences. Music: Sunset Dream - Cheel Visit our Instagram page: @kalpalspodcast
This week's episode is just an unorganized, chaotic ramble of random thoughts (including college, sleep schedules, and job experiences) However, careful listeners can also hear the underlying stress and issues that each podcaster may be dealing with in her daily life. Also a possible start to a new series! Disclaimer: This episode is purely for entertainment purposes. Nothing mentioned is to be taken seriously. In this (bit more serious) episode of KAL Pals, we talk about our relationships outside of our friendship circle and our online presence on social media. We decided to muster up the last drop of courage to share our most embarrassing experiences and revisit our traumatic memories. Lois and Amy. Music: Meet & Fun! - Ofshane Visit our official Instagram account: @kalpalspodcast
