This is the longest concert evar, complete with costume changes, requests, and more. We may see the same song multiple times, if I perform it in additional venues. Send requests to concertrequest@pudge.net.
"Lookin' For America" by Roy Hurd, by request. Roy Hurd's a folk singer from the Adirondacks. He's got a lot of great songs, check him out.
"Hook" by Blues Traveler, requested by Michelle, and dedicated to President Barack Obama.
An original song I wrote today, inspired by the Tax Day Tea Parties.
The classic song by Jackie Wilson.
An original song I recorded tonight. My voice is kinda thrashed but I wanted to record it anyway.
The great 80s song by Stephen and the Colberts. I am playing bass and singing on Expert in Rock Band 2. I got 100% on the bass. Maybe he'll hire me for his next tour. I created a "Stephen" character to sing lead for me. He looks a lot like the real Stephen does in the original video, except here he's shirtless. Wooo. (OK, it's not a Christmas song, but I couldn't resist.)
Vince Guaraldi's classic from "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Sung as a chipmunk.
This is an original arrangment of "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap. It's sort of a jazz-blues -- or blues-jazz, really -- version, with layers upon layers of bass (as many as seven bass parts simultaneously). I think this arrangement really captures the true soul of the original composition, expressing the theme as words never could; hence, the bass guitar does all of the singing. You might not be able to hear the song well on your crummy computer speakers. Try headphones. Created using a BOSS RC-2 LoopStation pedal, Variax Bass, and PODxt Live. The guitar models used (in order) are MiniMoog synth, Fender Jazz, Fender Fretless Jazz, Hagstrom H8 8-string, and Hamer B12A 12-string.
From the movie "Bob Roberts," here is a cover of the song "Complain." Enjoy!
From the movie "Bob Roberts," here is a cover of the song "Don't Vote." Enjoy!
"Eat American" is an original song by Pudge. Enjoy it. Or else. This song actually does express my food preferences.
"The Merry Minuet" is a classic song by The Kingston Trio. Requested by nandorman.
"I Hate You" is an original song that I wrote last week and recorded tonight. It's an anthem for all of you haters out there, and you know who you are. And if you listen to this song and say "but they ... !" then you may just be beyond hope. If you can't disagree without hating the other guy, then you, my friend, are what's wrong. "There are ... two methods of removing the causes of faction: the one, by destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence; the other, by giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests." http://federali.st/10#p4
"Baby Doe" is a song by Steve Taylor about a baby left to die in 1982 because it had Down's syndrome. I've updated the lyrics slightly in reference to the (now illegal) practice of allowing children who survive botched abortions die in a similar fashion, some of them perfectly healthy, some of them surviving for hours before finally dying. Taylor asks toward the end of the song, "where will it end?" We're not there yet.
A cover of The Byrds' classic. It's that time of the year, where politics is all-consuming, so I'll be putting out a series of mostly fun political songs. This is one of them.
In honor of Governor Sarah Palin, a cover of The Zambonis song "Hockey Mom." http://www.thezambonis.com/ On iTunes Music Store: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=69232914&id=69233642&s=143441
With no apologies, but sincere thanks, to the great Stan Freberg.
I played the GOP Debate Song at the Snohomish County picnic last weekend.
This is a song about former Police Chief Fred Walser, who had the Best Week Ever! http://www.fred-walser.com/ Fred went down to the auditor He filed for office He's runnin' for Senate this year Then he met with lawyers and he Pled guilty to a crime Fred had the best week ever Fred's on the campaign trail Twenty thousand in the hole Payin' and servin' for his crime While he is ringin' doorbells He'll be pickin' up trash Fred had the best week ever Fred must have something Something up his sleeve That makes him think he will win ... that people will trust him ... that people will vote for him Fred had the best week ever
"Christine, Christine, Christine" is a love song about Washington's Governor, Christine Gregoire. You can download the MP3 audio of the song here: http://tinyurl.com/3l3xqf The song is not autobiographical. It is sung from the perspective of someone who -- unlike myself -- is perfectly pleased to have a governor who will not only care for his every need, but also make all of his everyday decisions for him. He doesn't have to think for himself, because Christine is his Everything. The song is exactly four minutes long, one minute for each year she will have been in office when she leaves. Feel free to link to this song or video as you wish. If you wish to use the music for anything else, just ask me. Lyrics below, including footnotes for non-Washingtonians who may not understand the issues mentioned in the song. And if you want to help defeat Governor Gregoire, support Dino Rossi. http://www.dinorossi.com/ Chorus: Alone I can't do anything I don't know what I'll do Christine, you are my everything It's all up to you Christine, Christine, Christine Christine, I don't have much But what I have is yours You'll use it better than I would I'm totally assured You know me better than I do You know just what I need If it were left up to me I'd be Driven by pure greed Chorus I quit my job last week, Christine I know I'll be OK You'll keep me fed and clothed, my dear Drive all my fears away You buy me much more every year You've got the cash to spend Next year you'll run out But you can worry 'bout it then[1] Chorus I have no reason to doubt you I have no questions to ask What you tell me adds up nicely Because you taught me with New Math[2] Protect me from myself, Christine Don't let me drive a car Clog up the roads and force me To take trains to get too far[3] Don't let me gamble all I have Unless it's where you choose[4] Don't let me smoke[5] Don't let me not give your campaign my dues[6] Chorus Footnotes: [1] Governor Gregoire and the Democratic legislature have increased the state budget billions of dollars (33 percent) in only four years, asserting that all of this spending is for the citizens, and have left us -- the citizens -- with billions in deficits over the next couple of years that they have no plans to deal with, except to raise taxes (despite Gregoire's assurances earlier in her term that this is precisely what she wanted to avoid). [2] "New Math" emphasizes understanding concepts instead of the ability to actually solve math problems, and many schoolchildren never even learn basics like long division. [3] With Governor Gregoire in office, congestion has worsened in Washington, with no signs of significant improvement overall, while the Democrats have been steadily pushing mass transit that few people want and even fewer are willing to use. [4] Governor Gregoire has opposed expanding gambling to non-tribal businesses, and has supported restrictions on Internet gambling, but has supported expansion of gambling in tribal businesses. [5] Governor Gregoire and the Democrats have supported making smoking illegal in all public establishments. [6] Governor Gregoire and the Democrats removed the law -- just before the Supreme Court of the United States could uphold that law -- that forbade the teacher's union, the Washington Education Association, from taking nonmember dues and using them for partisan political purposes (almost exclusively in support of Democratic candidates and causes). In other words, Gregoire signed a law to the literal effect that all public schoolteachers in Washington are forced to contribute money to get her, and other Democrats, elected. (Out of over $56K spent by the WEA through April 2008, over $48K of that was for helping get Democrats elected (either to candidates, parties, or another PAC), while an additional $1680 went to Republicans and $1600 to a nonpartisan state superintendent candidate.)
An original love song to the Superdelegate. Lyrics: Chorus: Superdelegate, I don't know you, but I love you Superdelegate, you make me feel warm inside Superdelegate, I didn't vote for you But I really think you're super, Superdelegate We can't trust ourselves to choose 'Coz we've got so much to lose So we ask you, please Protect us from ourselves Chorus I will use my voice I will state my choice I will stand up and be counted But not as much as you Chorus
A cover of I Want You To Want Me by Cheap Trick. Requested by daviebluff.
This is the classic Bob Dylan song that was later popularized by Britney Spears.
This is my own arrangement of the Disney classic. I've always thought this song to be pretty depressing, so, there it is.
Good Friday. Here's my favorite tune for my favorite day.
Good Friday. Here's my favorite tune for my favorite day.
"A Few Words in Defense of Our Liberals" is a combination parody/response to Randy Newman's song, "A Few Words in Defense of Our Country," performed at the keynote for Macworld Expo 2008. Let me say up front that if you have a problem with anything in here, well, blame Randy, because nothing I said was any worse, or any less reasonable, than what he said. I am not the musician he is, but hey, I get paid a lot less. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OldToIF5ZGs for the original video for his song, from last January. The slightly different lyrics were posted in the NY Times that same month as an op-ed, at http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/24/opinion/24newman.html . Enjoy! And laugh a little! Just because Randy's ticked off, doesn't mean we have to be, no matter what your political persuasion.
I finally got my Schrammie! For the complete story, see the original song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLBcjBnIkqU Listen to the studio version here: http://pudge.net/tunes/tracks/Birthday.mp3 And watch Ken Schramm give me my award here: http://www.komotv.com/news/9742937.html Then finally, watch my acceptance speech: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCcw4N-XpzI I wrote the song New Year many years ago, and break it around this time every year.
This is a great little Christmas song by Rich Mullins. Sorry my voice is a bit thrashed. I have a cold and it hurts to sing. But the show must go on!
Christmas Must Be Tonight was originally recorded by The Band, though this version is heavily influenced by The Compassion International All-Star Band's version (sung by Randy Stonehill). Sorry my voice is a bit thrashed. I have a cold and it hurts to sing. But the show must go on!
I figured this was a good opportunity to try out my new Yamaha drum machine thingy. Sorry my voice is a bit thrashed. I have a cold and it hurts to sing. But the show must go on!
The Weird Al classic, done as a chipmunk lounge singer.
From "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," here is the EVIL holiday classic. So destroy all toys and make the kids cry! MUAHAHAHA! Project for Awesome SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR AWESOME. Or something. I dunno, I kinda question how awesome they really are. Well, not so much how awesome they are I suppose, but how much awesomer they are than anyone else. Everyone is awesome, right? Except for me, of course. I'm evil.
From "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," here is the holiday classic. So ... um ... donate to Toys for Tots, I guess. Cause toys are awesome, and so are tots.
Mary's Song is an old tune from Petra. Like, we're talking 70s here, long before YOU ever heard of them. Probably. One of my favoritest Christmas songs.
This arrangement was recorded a decade or two ago by Steve Camp.
This is a somber tune by Randy Stonehill about a way to celebrate Christmas that nobody wants.
An old favorite. Played by a hologram. On a recorder.
"Just Getting Started" is an original song I wrote and recorded a year ago, as a bit of an homage to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. As with my "Lines and Squares" video, despite the relatively professional sound quality, there's no lip synching here: I merely recorded the vocals and guitars (including the guitar solo) live into my music program as I recorded the video, and then mixed the audio all together and synched it up to the video. So what you see me doing is what you're hearing. No pretending!
Long Black Veil, by many artists. My version is sortof a mix between Johnny Cash's version, and The Chieftains' version (with Mick Jagger on lead vocal). Requested by "ab ab." Send in your Christmas music requests!
"Strange Days," by The Swirling Eddies. When a lot of people are hatin' on each other -- such as in politics -- this song comes to my mind.
This is a song about how YOU FORGOT RON PAUL! Even if you didn't. You Ron Paul fans asked for more lines about Ron Paul, so here it is. Be careful what you ask for next time. See outtakes for this song at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqYaxGiRk1I
This is a relatively untitled song about the upcoming GOP debate on YouTube.
"Still Alive" is a song written by Jonathan Coulton for the game Portal. For more information, see: http://www.jonathancoulton.com/2007/10/15/portal-the-skinny/
I really dislike listening to Tim McCarver, and as a Red Sox fan, I am excited about the ALCS, but also dreading it. AND THAT IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE. TIM. For more information, see: http://www.shutuptimmccarver.com/ and http://www.firejoemorgan.com/search/label/tim%20mccarver
This is a song dedicated to the great champion of bear (and wrist) awareness, Stephen Colbert. The verses are by A A Milne. Here's my own wrist injury (post-op): http://www.flickr.com/photos/pudge/1440769501/ The original MP3 of this song is available: http://pudge.net/tunes/tracks/Lines%20and%20Squares.mp3 (And no, I am not lip synching. I recorded the guitar and vocal into Logic while I recorded the video with QT Player, then mixed the audio and exported it out and brought it into iMovie. The spoken parts are the built-in laptop mic, and then I mixed the song, with the good mic recordings, in over that.)
I wrote this song about a year or so ago. I added the second verse today, just for Ken Schram. He took offense at my song Osama Bin Laden, You Ruined My Birthday, and this song, I Am Gonna, constitutes my acceptance speech. See his outrage here: http://www.komotv.com/news/9742937.html See my song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLBcjBnIkqU Listen to the song here: http://pudge.net/tunes/tracks/Birthday.mp3
