What's the worst thing you ever saw at a sports game? Someone throw a battery at a Make-a-Wish kid? Sure, if you're from Philly, but what if you were from California. On today's episode: we'll talk about zombies and crucifictions and collapsing buildings before we even get into it; we're going to watch the shortest baseball game of all time; and we're going to cut off one of your limbs in one of the more claustrophobic ways possible. And if you were listening on Patreon… you would hear of one of the most extreme, but very different kind of arm-severing examples of self-rescue in history; the story of a must-have, closed-casket-funeral-friendly rescue device and the absolutely brutal, very public early use of it; and a really dirty, smutty explanation how earthquakes work.By popular request, we present The Loma Prieta Earthquake Disaster of 1989! So, we'll end up talking about my history with zombies and a popular crucifixion and a slowly collapsing building - two of three events set in San Francisco itself – all before we settle in to watch the shortest baseball game of all time. Not just that, we're actually going to (for the first time ever) interrupt a safety segment with a Patreon-exclusive retelling of the shockingly horrific and awful just-kill-me-now-already story of Aron Ralston. You might remember him as the guy who chewed his arm off after an 800 pound boulder pinned him to a canyon wall in Utah. He didn't actually chew his arm off though. What he did was at least a thousand times worse. We'll also do a little retelling of the great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Can't not do a San Francisco Earthquake disaster without at least bringing it up.Celebrity guest appearances include world famous author and travel enthusiast, Bill Bryson; crucified magician and Jesus' friend, Saint Andrew; real estate suckers Joe Montana and Kevin Durant; all four Beatles; sports broadcasters, Al Michaels and Tim McCarver; newscaster, Ted Koppel; crosstown World Series players Dave Stewart, Mike Moore, Jose Canseco, Dave Parker and Terry Kennedy. All older episodes can be found on any of your favorite channelsApple : https://tinyurl.com/5fnbumdw Spotify : https://tinyurl.com/73tb3uuw IHeartRadio : https://tinyurl.com/vwczpv5j Podchaser : https://tinyurl.com/263kda6w Stitcher : https://tinyurl.com/mcyxt6vw Google : https://tinyurl.com/3fjfxatt Spreaker : https://tinyurl.com/fm5y22su Podchaser : https://tinyurl.com/263kda6w RadioPublic : https://tinyurl.com/w67b4kec PocketCasts. : https://pca.st/ef1165v3 CastBox : https://tinyurl.com/4xjpptdr Breaker. : https://tinyurl.com/4cbpfayt Deezer. : https://tinyurl.com/5nmexvwt Follow us on the socials for moreFacebook : www.facebook.com/doomsdaypodcast Instagram : www.instagram.com/doomsdaypodcast Twitter : www.twitter.com/doomsdaypodcastTikTok: www.tiktok.com/@doomsday.the.podcastIf you like the idea of your podcast hosts wearing more than duct tape and bits of old Halloween costumes for clothes and can spare a buck or two, you can now buy me a coffee atwww.buymeacoffee.com/doomsday or join the patreon at www.funeralkazoo.com/doomsday

SERIES 2 EPISODE 199: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump and his henchmen opened not one but two emergency exits for him to bail out of Thursday's debate against The President and blame it on Biden. And in doing so, his dumbest press secretary yet went on CNN and called Adolf Hitler "HILTER." H-I-L-T-E-R, Hilter. I don't know if she should be fired for invoking HItler, or if she WILL be fired for getting the name of Trump's role model wrong. It's Karoline Leavitt, the former centerfielder of the St. Anselm College softball team and the idiot who previously insisted the word 'damning' is correctly pronounced 'dammaning,' tried to filibuster CNN's Katie Hunt about how biased debate hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash really are. As Hunt cut first the answer and then the interview off, Leavitt insisted anybody could spend five minutes googling how many times Tapper had compared Trump to "Adolf Hilter." Bypassing the whole Hitler/Hilter stuff, "Damaning Hilter" Leavitt adopted the traditional pose of the Martyred Trump Huckster and did the rounds of the fascist media outlets. When she went on Steve Bannon's outlet he said either CNN apologizes to her, or Trump should cancel the debate. Hours later, Trump opened a second emergency chute, again demanding drug tests before the debate, as his personal quack Congressman Physician Prescribe Thyself Ronny Jackson wrote a long letter to the White House requesting such tests (and saying nothing about any stashes he may have left there). Who knows if Trump really will bail. But he's got FOLAD (Fear Of Losing A Debate) all covered. MEANWHILE: it's a long shot but I'm beginning to wonder if somebody on Jack Smith's side is laying the groundwork for indicting Trump anew - in New Jersey. There has been a second news leak in just three business days, about Trump's Mar-a-Lago Espionage Scandal. Yesterday's leak via ABC News did not resonate among American news media which can generally only BARELY handle one thing at a time – like the debate. The story itself – about Trump making an almost-secret special trip to Florida in July 2022 to make sure nobody had touched the documents he stole from the White House and hid from his own attorney - may not be much more than another one of those threads that you pull on and maybe it just comes off in your hand – or maybe it unravels the entirety of Trump's size 62 suit. I don't even think prosecutors know what they have here. But he went down there two weeks after he had bankers' boxes shipped from Mar-a-Lago to the Bedminster Golf Course. They didn't contain Ivana. B-Block (20:35) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: I have somehow forgotten, for years, maybe 35 years, the first and arguably the best joke I ever made about Trump. I'll correct that here. Not only are the British Conservatives on track for a historic loss in the July 4 election but two candidates, a party official, and a security guard have been caught allegedly wagering on which day their prime minister would select for Election Day! And the rare two-wins-in-a-row for Puck media guy Dylan Byers, carrying still more management water as he turns gutsy Washington Post reporting on the paper's ongoing management scandal into “a plan to dig for unflattering information.” C-Block (27:20) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: How did I forget to tell you this one through the first 500 episodes of this podcast? How could I have missed the 24th anniversary last week? I'll just mention the principals: my mother, me, a former New York Yankees infielder named Chuck Knoblauch - and Babe Ruth. . Boomer ran into Andrew Marchand of The Athletic yesterday and they talked about which athlete has had the most success as a broadcaster after their playing career. Boomer thought of Cris Collinsworth, Phil Simms, and Pat Summerall. Marchand thought of Charles Barkley and he had Boomer on his list. Other names that came up were Frank Gifford, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw. Gio said Tim McCarver. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Sixers beating the Heat as they will face the Knicks in round one. Kendrick Perkins said Barkley and Shaq don't watch games, which is why they don't like the Knicks. The Mets completed their sweep of the Pirates and the Yankees snapped a 3-game losing streak by beating the Blue Jays. Jason Kelce lost his Super Bowl ring in a pool of Skyline Chili. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer wonders what the itinerary will be for John Sterling day on Saturday. Boomer also wants the new brand manager to get a makeover. We need to, ‘sex him up' according to Boomer.
Hour 1 We have a huge sports weekend coming up and now know the Knicks opponent. They will play the Sixers starting Saturday at MSG. Gio said it would have been easier to play the Heat without Jimmy Butler. Boomer said you can't always try to take the easy way out. Boomer talked about Mitchell Robinson being healthy and how that will be key. Boomer is feeling like a kid again with the Knicks and Rangers being in the playoffs. Oh, and the Mets just swept the Pirates. There will definitely be more Knicks fans in Philly than Sixers fans at MSG. Mitchell Robinson is going off social media for the playoffs and isn't texting anyone back. Jerry is here for his first update but first, Boomer is pumped and playing MC Hammer music. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Sixers win over the Heat. Why does Charles Barkley think the Knicks are frauds? Gio thinks he's doing it just to troll the Knicks fanbase. Jontay Porter was suspended indefinitely by the NBA for betting. Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star was very awkward to Caitlin Clark when she was introduced to the media. In the final segment of the hour, reports are that there are four candidates to replace John Sterling on the Yankees radio broadcasts. Would Brendan Burke drop what he's doing now to go on the road for 81 games a year? Gio said he would be the first choice if he was doing the hiring. Justin Shackil and Emmanuel Berbari have an enormous opportunity this summer to prove they are the right guy for the job. Hour 2 Boomer is having problems checking in on the Air Canada app. He is going there for a WASPs hockey tournament. Gio thinks it's an old guy problem. The interface between the Air Canada app and the United app ‘sucks' according to Boomer. Jerry returns for an update, but first Gio figures out Boomer's app issue with Air Canada. Jerry starts with audio from the Sixers win over the Heat. The Yankees beat the Blue Jays and we heard Juan Soto's HR. The Mets completed the sweep of the Pirates. Bill Belichick said he's never had a cup of coffee in his life. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer went to the Sean McManus retirement party. Roger Goodell and Robert Kraft were also there. Hour 3 Boomer ran into Andrew Marchand of The Athletic yesterday and they talked about which athlete has had the most success as a broadcaster after their playing career. Hour 4 Boomer wonders if Big Zoo is still raising money for the 5-Borough Bike Tour as he's representing Team Boomer. A caller said he's feeling a lot of negativity from Rangers fans. A caller is bringing a third date to the Rangers playoff game and is looking for advice. One caller said, ‘don't take chicks to games'. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Knicks having to face the Sixers. Gio wishes it was the Heat now that Jimmy Butler is out. Al Leiter's son, Jack, makes his first MLB start today with the Texas Rangers. The Coyotes are moving to Salt Lake City, so last night the broadcasters said goodbye. The Moment of The Day involves Boomer vs the Air Canada app on his phone. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the upcoming Rangers/Capitals series.

1977 NLCS Meeting up for the first of two consecutive NLCS battles in 1977 and 1978, the Philadelphia Phillies (101-61) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (98-64) face off with games one and two at Dodger Stadium, and the final three (if necessary) at Veterans Stadium in Philly. The Phillies captured their second of three consecutive NL East titles behind the stewardship of Danny Ozark. The Fightin's had the best lineup in the NL, and they were stacked at nearly every position. Michael Jack Schmidt was his typical outstanding self (38 HR 101 RBI .274/.393/.574 151 OPS+), but it was Greg ‘the Bull' Luzinski (39 HR 130 RBI .309/.394/.594 156 OPS+) who finished runner-up in MVP voting. The mid-season trade for former Cardinals OF Bake McBride bolstered are already strong outfield core with Garry Maddox and the Bull. Larry Bowa and Bob Boone provided excellent defense and timely hits, while platoon hitters like Jay Johnstone, Tim McCarver, and Davey Johnson crushed their opportunities. ‘Lefty' Steve Carlton picked up his second career Cy Young by leading the NL in wins, but the rest of the rotation left a lot to be desired. These Phillies were able to win over a 100 games because Danny Ozark could turn to a dominant bullpen, with 4 guys (Gene Garber, Ron Reed, Tug McGraw, and Warren Brusstar) sporting ERAs in the 2s. With a high-powered offense, a true ace, and a lights-out bullpen, this is a modern team to be reckoned with. In his first full year as manager of the Dodgers, Tommy Lasorda led this storied franchise back to the playoffs. His lineup packs a punch to rival the Phillies, with four 30+ home run hitters (Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Dusty Baker, and Reggie Smith). The corner infielders (Garvey and Cey) both drove in 110+ runs, while the corner outfielders (Baker and Smith) provided more in on-base and slugging, with Smith leading the NL in OPS+ and finishing fourth in MVP voting. Where the Dodgers had the greatest edge over the league was with their pitching staff, who collectively had a 3.22 ERA, 20% better than league average. All 5 of their starters pitched over 200 innings with above average ERAs and double digit wins. Tommy John led the way with 20 wins and a 2.78 ERA. The bullpen was not as reliable as Philadelphia's, but that is partially because they weren't relied on as frequently. The pitching matchups will be as follows: Game 1 @ LAD - LHP Tommy John (20 - 7 2.78 ERA 220 IP) vs. LHP Steve Carlton (23 - 10 2.64 ERA 283 IP) Game 2 @ LAD - RHP Don Sutton (14 - 8 3.18 ERA 240 IP) vs. Jim Lonborg (11 - 4 4.11 ERA 157 IP) Game 3 @ PHI - RHP Larry Christenson (19 - 6 4.06 ERA 219 IP) vs. Burt Hooton (12 - 7 2.62 ERA 223 IP) Game 4 @ PHI - LHP Steve Carlton vs. LHP Tommy John Audio clips from Youtube linked below Game 1 - Vin Scully on KTTV Game 2 - Russ Porter and Jerry Doggett on KTTV Game 3 - Harry Kalas, Richie Ashburn, and Andy Musser on WPHL-TV Game 4 - Dick Enberg and Don Drysdale on NBC (plus Kalas on WPHL-TV) As always, shout out to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, boxscores, background information, and much, much more. We remember two accomplished performers from different fields: Sharp-witted comedian Richard Belzer, probably best-known for playing the dramatic role of Detective John Munch on Law & Order, and major-league catcher and Hall of Fame broadcaster Tim McCarver. Also, TV critic David Bianculli reviews Hello Tomorrow! starring Billy Crudup.
Episode 429 of "SI Media with Jimmy Traina" features an interview with CBS Sports and Turner Sports play-by-play man, Ian Eagle.Eagle talks about succeeding Jim Nantz next year to call the NCAA Tournament Final Four and why working with Bill Raftery is so special.Eagle also shares his thoughts on the Greg Olsen-Tom Brady situation and what it means for fellow play-by-player, Kevin Burkhardt. Eagle, who calls Nets games locally, also discusses the team's implosion this season and why it was difficult for him to call Kyrie Irving's games after Irving promoted and anti-semetic film.Other topics discussed with Eagle include his favorite sports call of all time, where he was when the NBA shut down because of Covid, the pronunciation of his name, Aaron Rodgers' darkness retreat and much more.Following Eagle, Sal Licata from WFAN radio and SNY TV joins Jimmy for their weekly "Traina Thoughts" segment. This week, Jimmy and Sal discuss Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime performance, the NBA's All-Star weekend, Major League Baseball's new rules changes, the passing of Tim McCarver and more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Kevin and Thom opened with plenty more on Eric Bieniemy. They talked the likelihood of the franchise tag for Daron Payne and then ended with Kevin's favorite new cookie, Thom's fear of artificial intelligence, and thoughts on the passing of Tim McCarver. On this Friday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, Sid recaps President Joe Biden's press conference yesterday regarding the plethora of random flying objects that we've been shooting down for the past week. Why it took so long for the President to speak on something that's been sending the nation into a frenzy for several days now? We wish we had an answer to that question for you. Regardless, Biden tried his best to talk through the issue for the American people, but had very little success in coherently doing so as it becomes more and more clear what kind of vulnerability we currently possess as a country with this imbecile in the White House. In other news of the day, Whoopi Goldberg spewed more vitriol on The View regarding the right-hand side of politics, CNN's Don Lemon catches heat for a sexist rant he went on regarding Nikki Haley, Ryan Seacrest announces his plans to depart from the Live with Kelly and Ryan program, Rush Limbaugh passed away two years ago today, Kevin Durant gets introduced to his new fan base in Phoenix, and World Series Champion and legendary broadcaster Tim McCarver passes away at the age of 81. Curtis Sliwa, Lester Chang, Noam Laden, Jeanine Pirro, Michael Goodwin and Anthony Scaramucci join the program, and as always make sure you don't miss out on the Friday installment of The Peerless Boilers Sid's Take Contest. Hour 1: Gio showed up today wearing a bright white knit hat with the Casamigos logo on it. Boomer also noticed Gio is walking with a limp, as he played pickleball last night. Boomer wonders if Aaron Rodgers is in the dark box yet. Boomer & Gio are both impressed by Tiger Woods at the Genesis Invitational. We also talked about the condition of the Super Bowl field. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with some audio from Tim McCarver from the 2001 World Series. Bruce Beck talked to Gerrit Cole about their chances this year and it's quite awkward. Gio said he has heard some very awkward conversations between DA and our makeup artist Aly. Kevin Durant talked about why things didn't work out in Brooklyn. Maryland beat Purdue last night in college hoops. In the final segment of the hour, Tiger Woods hands Justin Thomas a tampon after outdriving him. Hour 2: Boomer asks Gio, going into this season, who's the better quarterback, Daniel Jones or Derek Carr? Gio doesn't want to pay Saquon Barkley a lot of money. There are not a lot of RBs making a ton of money and Gio wants to keep it that way for Saquon and the Giants. Jerry returns for an update but first we talk about Anthony Gallo's living conditions. Gio is confused as to what a hotplate is. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Pizza Bianco in Phoenix and a caller hates that the NFL allows linemen to push the guy with the ball forward. Another caller hates hearing about the money athletes make and how we act like they're not getting paid enough. Hour 3: We talked about athletes and money and how ridiculous it is, but because of the salary cap and how it affects the players teams get, we have to talk about it. Callers complain about the salaries of athletes and the price of tickets (blah blah blah). Jerry returns for an update but first we talk about CP The Fanchise filling in for Craig today during Carton & Roberts. Gio found out yesterday that Sal proposed to his wife while he was naked. Evan cried during his proposal to his wife. Does Evan think about Mets players in order to get in the mood sexually? Spike worked with a guy that would get aroused when he got angry. Howie Roseman talked about the condition of the field and cannot blame the loss on that as both teams played on the same field. Brian Flores talked about deciding to go to the Vikings. Chris Russo calls Patrick Mahomes ‘homes'...three different times. In the final segment of the hour, Evan's afternoon partner for later today, CP The Fanchise, calls in. Boomer, being the Terps QB, went to a bunch of parties. Jerry returns for his final update and Gio tells him he has to get involved for pickleball. Aaron Boone talked about the passing of Tim McCarver. Jacob deGrom is already missing some spring training with the Rangers due to his constant injuries. One of the game's greatest bards and gentleman, Tim McCarver made his big-league debut at 17, played for the Cardinals, won with the Cardinals, and in his final tour as a Hall of Fame broadcaster returned to the Cardinals to call games. McCarver died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023. He was 81. Back in May 2016, while on a road trip to Washington, McCarver sat in the stands with St. Louis Post-Dispatch baseball writer Derrick Goold to talk about his return, the role John Mozeliak played in it, and why there is still power in storytelling in baseball, even in a world accelerated by Twitter. This is a special rebroadcast of that episode that first aired May 31, 2016. The Best Podcast in Baseball, sponsored by Closets by Design, is a production of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, StlToday.com, and Derrick Goold.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
