Prepare for a sonic assault on your ears as Jason Gore and Geoff Garlock unleash the ultimate countdown of the WORST classic rock covers ever conceived! Broadcasting LIVE from the sometimes-adjacent-to Seabirds Burritos (long story…), Jason and Geoff serve up two-for-one burrito deals alongside a heaping helping of musical travesties. This episode is a wild ride of hot takes, bizarre tangents, and enough cringe-worthy covers to make you question the very fabric of reality.Weezer's Double Dose of Disaster: Jason and Geoff dissecttwo Weezer covers that should have been confined to a dusty demo tape. Why covering Toto is a cardinal sin, why Rivers Cuomo needs to stay in his lane, and why Jason's Weezer back tattoo is a constant source of embarrassment. The Gunt Brothers' Polka-fied "It's Been A While": This Staind cover gets a bizarre polka makeover. Is it ironic? Is it awful? It's definitely…something.AC/DC's Bass-Less "Big Bottom": Angus Young's duck walk can't save this cover from its fundamental lack of bass. Plus, AC/DC's adult diaper line and the "World War II Veterans Who Love AC/DC" Reddit group.Silver Springs: The TikTok Fail: Lindsay Buckingham tries to recreate the viral "Dreams" skateboarder video…with "Silver Springs."The Doors' Coke-Fueled Confusion: Jim Morrison covers "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing," and it's exactly as strange as you'd expect. Plus, speculation about Jim Morrison's alleged Coca-Cola bathing habits.Kate Bush's "Super Bowl Shuffle": A Flat-Earther's Delight: Kate Bush tackles the Chicago Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle, and the results are…unique. Plus, flat-Earth theories and a discussion of weather-controlling machines.Plus, a new PSA from Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock and your updated 108.9 The Hawk Concert Calendar!Sponsored by: Seabirds Burittos!Love 108.9 The Hawk? Every once in a while, we get the chance to talk to TRUE rock royalty...and today was one of those days as we held court with the Lord of the Low End , legendary Spinal Tap bassist, DEREK SMALLS!!!
Many YouTube creators have unwittingly put brands in the driver's seat of their channels, which I think has lead to a lot of fatigue/burnout from both creators and viewers alike. This week's episode dives into that transition a bit more and explores what it would mean to re-evaluate the way we approach YouTube to rediscover creating and consuming from a place of genuine passion and enthusiasm.
To qualify for a key to our CF-Moto 950 side x side we played a game called "which side is it?" We give you a town with a funny name in Washington and you tell us which side of the state it is on!

Adam recaps meeting Jewel and singing backup for Blues Traveler's cover of ‘Big Bottom' from ‘This is Spinal Tap' at FivePoint Amphitheatre last Friday. The gang talks to geopolitical analyst, Peter Zeihan, about his new book ‘The End of The World Is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization'. They discuss how Americans changed the landscape after World War II, misconceptions about US semiconductor manufacturing, how developing new sources of energy is essential, and how Russia may set their sights on Poland after Ukraine. They listen to Adam's abrupt exit from ‘The Janice Dean Podcast' and Gina shows them the trailer for an after school special with a great name. THANKS FOR SUPPORTING TODAY'S SPONSORS: TommyJohn.com/ADAM Geico.com
John Popper has asked Adam to sing backup vocals on the Spinal Tap song, ‘Big Bottom' which leads the gang to listen to other covers like the Barenaked Ladies cover of the Happy Days theme song and a Travis cover of ‘Baby One More Time' by Britney Spears. Gina presents an invention she found called ‘Laundry Jet' which has a very similar concept to Adam's ‘Recyclarolla'. Before playing a round of the ‘Rotten Tomatoes Game' with a summer camp theme, Chris gives an update on the controversial ‘Thelma and Louise' round they played at the Springfield show. I had the pleasure of stopping at Big Bottom Brewery a few weeks back. On a road trip back from North Carolina, we came through Dillsburg Pa, and really on a whim we stopped. WELL I AM GLAD I DID. The place was great. The owner took time out to talk and show me around. We did two flights and found this absolute GEM amount the wide array of styles. I will be the first to say Sours or Gose are among my least favorite styles of beer. In fact among the beers we had was a seltzer, a style I absolutely hate (ITS NOT BEER). But their seltzer was absolutely amazing as well. They are located at 6 Tristan Drive, Dillsburg, PA. You can find them on Facebook - @bigbottombrewery #TakeOnTheWorld #BigBottomBrewery #TheDen #beerreview Is there a beer you think we should try .... let us know. Our host has taken up a new residence and moved the Doom Cave out to Brooklyn, so it is only fitting to be speaking with an NYC band this week. Jack, Brian, and Jade of Lightmaker stop by to talk about metal over old folkies and yacht rock, an all bass cover of "Big Bottom", living dangerously with Craig's List, growing up with Colorado metal hippies, Dopesmoker - the slowest prog rock song ever, being college buddies with Intronaut's Joe Lester, Jinx Dawson's bedazzled mask, pressing albums to floppy disks, what's in store for 2021 shows, and Conan being fucking loud. Support Lightmaker over at their Bandcamp Cameo by Peanut the dog Track featured is "Sweet Fire" off their self-titled album Note: We are very aware of the fishbowl sound on Dylan's voice. We've got some hardware on the way to fix that problem!

This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that boosts the return on investment of our advertising by turning every ad into an ethical one, and my guest is Amy Williams, Co-Founder and CEO of Good Loop.Amy is an active member of the Women in Tech and Tech For Good communities. She was recently named by Forbes as one of the 30 Under 30 most influential people in media & marketing and has recently been listed in The Drum Digerati as one of the 100 outstanding individuals excelling in the UK digital industry.Amy has worked in the advertising sector all her career. At the age of 15 she first stepped into an advertising agency. She cut her teeth at one of the world's largest advertising agencies where she worked on everything from global TV ads to scrappy social campaigns. During this time she realised that it’s really difficult for brands to get their message in front of their audience in a cost-effective and positive way. The more she learned about the industry the more she started to see a disconnect between brands and the people they were trying to talk to. Too often the transaction between advertiser and viewer is at best impersonal and at worst unpleasant. As ad blocker downloads continue to rise and quality journalism continues to suffer the consequences, she sensed that it was time for a more positive solution. That's why she founded the ethical video advertising platform, Good-Loop.This inspired me, hence I invited Amy to my podcast. We explore what’s broken in the advertising industry and why current approaches to get the maximum number of eyeballs for the minimum possible cost will only make things worse, not better. We dive into the concept behind Good-Loop, and how it’s found an ingenious way to connect people, brands and publishers in more meaningful, and consequently more effective way that’s creating a winning case for everyone involved. Here are some of his quotes:The big idea behind my business is that your time, your attention and your data, all of these things online, they are valuable to someone. They're valuable to advertisers. And so, we want to basically harness that value and use it to make the world a better place. The reason I called it Good Loop actually was, I was thinking about this idea of creating a virtuous cycle: Advertising is such a big business and it funds the free internet. But it's something that people inherently resent. There's a huge erosion of public trust around advertising online. It’s illustrated by how many people use ad-blockers. Hundreds of millions use ad blockers, and then it kind of leaves you the question: ‘How are we going to keep the internet free if we can't find a way for advertising to be perceived more positively?’So, we're on a mission to make ethical advertising the new normal. And that means that whenever you see an ad online, it shouldn't be something you block, it should be something that you're pleased to see because it means that the world is being made a better place.During this interview, you will learn three things:Why, in order to create breakthrough innovation, it’s key to frame the problem in the correct way i.e. name the true villain in your storyHow, by making your solution outcome oriented, or in other words only make customers pay for success, you can create an offer that’s a no-brainer for every stakeholder to get involved inWhy, by simply starting, you will be 10 times further ahead than most people who just talk about an idea, but hope for all stars to align. What a great time I had speaking with Dan Gross from Gross Communications and Elevated Nation digital magazine. We touched on how news is delivered and received, fake news to the politics of cannabis rights. I hope to work more with Dan in the future. Congratulations to him on his accomplishments. Maybe one day we will have a bass duel or cover "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap. Dan spent nearly a decade as a columnist at the Philadelphia Daily News, breaking local and national entertainment and news stories. He also worked for five years as President of Communications Workers of America Local 38010 (The Newspaper Guild). There Dan was responsible for crafting and implementing the union’s communications with members and local and national media during several years of high-profile sales and transition at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. Dan served as a member of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Philadelphia Media Holdings Bankruptcy as well as a trustee on the union’s health and welfare and pension plans. Dan, a graduate of Temple University, has written for Rolling Stone, Anthem and Philadelphia magazine.

Have you ever felt like 97% of most women? In a recent poll by Glamour, a stunning 97% percent of women admitted to having at least one "I hate my body" thought each day. Even more depressing? On average, those women – just about all of us – have not one, but 13 negative body thoughts daily. Join us as we talk to Author Teasi Cannon, who knows the feeling well. "For most of my life," she says, “'disgust' would have been the appropriate word to define what I felt when looking in the mirror." Until, that is, Teasi decided to take a bold step. She would stop hating herself. She would vow to start loving the body God gave her. But at 50 pounds over the weight society deems appropriate, was that even possible? In My Big Bottom Blessing: How Hating My Body Led to Loving My Life, Teasi recounts her journey in moving (and often hilarious) detail. This isn't just the story of a woman who has finally conquered the negative voices in her head - it's a call to arms. “The healing truths and humor in this book have been like a song to my spirit. Every woman will find herself—and a new way of seeing—in this life-changing book.” Wynonna Judd, five-time Grammy winner and New York Times best-selling author of "Coming Home to Myself" www.teasicannon.com PraiseWorks Journey to Wellness Alaskan Cruise Spring Into The Stress Free Zone

This is an original arrangment of "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap. It's sort of a jazz-blues -- or blues-jazz, really -- version, with layers upon layers of bass (as many as seven bass parts simultaneously). I think this arrangement really captures the true soul of the original composition, expressing the theme as words never could; hence, the bass guitar does all of the singing. You might not be able to hear the song well on your crummy computer speakers. Try headphones. Created using a BOSS RC-2 LoopStation pedal, Variax Bass, and PODxt Live. The guitar models used (in order) are MiniMoog synth, Fender Jazz, Fender Fretless Jazz, Hagstrom H8 8-string, and Hamer B12A 12-string.
