Running some ideas past my peeps. Also... I keep hearing people talking about "when 2020 is over" as if they are literally throwing in the towel on attempting any kind of enjoyment of the next 3 months. But 2020 isn't bad. It's a number, squares on a calendar. It's how you INTERPRET 2020 that's holding you back from enjoying it. Sure, things didn't go according to plan. Honestly, in life, they rarely do. The only difference here is that we are all going through this craziness together. If someone told you that the next 3 months were your LAST 3 months on Earth, how would your perspective change? What kinds of thoughts would you have about the remainder of this unique year? What would you DO with that time? There's no reason you can't get in this frame of mind about 2020 (minus the impending death part). You can look for the good in things. You can find ways to have fun and enjoy life NOW (rather than putting it off until some arbitrary time in the future). Reignite your spark! Wallowing in anxiety and overwhelm is not helping anyone or any cause. It's just making you feel like shit and approach life with anxiety and overwhelm. What could you do if you found ways to produce PEACE and CALM instead? Or even a little FUN? I'm not all-sunshine-all-the-time, but I do like to try and put things into perspective NOW rather than simply appreciating things in hindsight (which, ironically, is 20/20). The system for achieving your goal weight is the same as the system for achieving your business goals. It's the same as your sales process, taking a customer from point A to point B and bridging the gap with your product or service. You take the customer on a journey... except in the weight loss scenario, YOU are the customer. If you break down your weight loss goal and do the work - just as you'd do for your own customer's transformation journey - you will know exactly how to lose your weight and stay motivated in the process. We *start* overeating because food is the one thing we feel we can control. We *keep* overeating because food has become yet another thing OUT of our control. So what happened!? And what do we do about it!? So many of us, especially during these crazy COVID times, have turned to food as something we can use to ease stress, have some "fun," and feel a sense of control in an otherwise out-of-control world. We eat to feel better. We eat to pass the time. We eat because it's something we have direct control over. ...... until we don't. After a while we've realized, the food doesn't fix the problem. The food doesn't make us feel better for longer than a fleeting moment. The food doesn't pass that much time, after all. But by that point, it's too late. We've developed a new habit. We've trained our brains that the food IS the answer. So our brains continue to demand MORE. This is where a decision must be made. You either keep going on this path of self-destruction and waistline-expansion, OR you break the pattern. Many people want to try an intermittent fasting (IF) lifestyle, but few know how to stick with it through the adaptation phase so they can get to the prize on the other side. In this episode, I set your expectations for the first month of following an IF lifestyle, and I give you three different options on how to select an eating window. It's important to view the adaptation phase as just that - a time for your body to adapt to this new way of eating (or not eating). This is not a time to worry about losing weight or changing what you eat. When you set your big weight loss goals, like a goal weight or goal size, it is helpful to break them into smaller goals that are actionable and in your control. These are things you can do daily to help you inch closer and closer to the main goal. Long-term goals are your "desired outcomes." And your short-term daily goals are actionable items you can perform along the way. Also, make sure you are approaching each day from the "green light" mentality - offering yourself a clean slate, just like we do each day for our kids in school. When you go on vacation, does your eating plan and exercise regime go right out the window? Are you eating in a way that you can't wait to get a break and go "off plan?" In this episode, I cover the basic principles to follow, with regard to your healthy eating. Meals Principles: Eat only when you are hungry, and stop when you're satisfied. Plan all your food in advance, not in the moment. Eat 90% foods that feel good and fuel your body, and allow for 10% of foods for fun and mouth entertainment. Drink 2-3 liters of water each day. In this episode, I explain the four layers of physical hunger AND the four layers of emotional hunger so you can best assess when to eat and when to process emotions. The four layers are Idle, Inconvenient, Uncomfortable and Urgent. When you are experiencing physical hunger, it is ideal to eat when you are in the Inconvenient or Uncomfortable Layers. When you are experiencing emotional hunger, it is best not to eat at all. One of the main tools I use with my weight loss clients is the Daily Plan. This easy-to-implement tool will not only help you lose weight, but it will also help you to build trust in yourself again. Taking a moment before the day begins to decide what you will eat for the entire day gives you the opportunity to make those decisions from a conscious, high-level place so that you won't be giving into temptation or over-hunger in the moment. The daily plan doesn't have to be fancy and doesn't even have to have your portion sizes all written out. It simply needs to be completed in some way, shape or form. That's it! When your routine is already a little wonky, you can throw in some extra movement and create new patterns and habits to take with you AFTER this all blows over. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), also known as "tapping," is an excellent tool to help with weight loss. By tapping on your negative emotions and limiting beliefs, you're able to calm the brain and limit the release of the hormone cortisol in the body. Cortisol is responsible for increased appetite and sugar cravings. While our bodies are in the fight-or-flight response and releasing Cortisol, digestion is slowed down (if not shut down completely). Learning how to use EFT tapping to manage these emotions is not only a great way to lower your overall stress levels but also an amazing way to help your body start to release excess weight. There's nothing quite so discouraging as following all the rules, dieting, working out - doing ALL THE THINGS - only to step on the scale and see the same ole numbers. In the beginning of the weight loss journey, I encourage you to cut yourself some slack, and start looking for non-scale victories. Keeping your thoughts high-vibe will help you to stay on track to reaching your goals. Avoid comparing yourself to other people and how quickly they are losing weight. It's a guessing game that ends in disappointment. Your brain constantly wants to prove itself right... So send your brain on a quest to find the best, results-producing thoughts!

"I came up with this idea last week when I was working with my coach and I was talking with her about how I had these two conflicting sides of me, I have been a total rule follower, completely type A total perfectionist but on the other hand, getting a little bit more spiritual as I've really begun to tap into my own intuition in the last several years." This week on Life Like a Boss, we are going to learn how to let go of perfectionism or more precisely, live up to the idea of reconciling the two conflicting sides of yourself, which will involve having to ease up on your identity as a perfectionist and learning to go with the flow a bit more. Try to open up your mind a little bit and take a little journey with me in the hopes of making things easier for you. Bear in mind that not every plan is infallible or unchangeable, sometimes there is a better way and that will cause you to veer away from the original path.
