Jo is a psychologist and psychotherapist who specializes in mental health and well-being. There are more toxic byproducts in food dyes than in many drugs. These synthetic food colorants have never been tested long-term for biological effects in humans! Many food dyes have been banned in Europe, but are still used in the U.S. Junk food industries that sell products with food dyes are heavily self-regulated, so the FDA allows them to perform their own studies. In 2021, there was a petition to ban red dye number 3 in cosmetics because it's a carcinogen even in small amounts, but it can still be found in your child's cereal. Artificial food coloring has been shown to cause hyperactivity in children and other neurological issues. Food dyes are often used for their psychological effects. Studies have shown that people will choose to eat more of a food because of its color.Natural pigments in our food have antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, help protect your cells, and protect the mitochondria. You can also get these phytonutrients when you consume grass-fed beef or lamb. Methylene blue is a synthetic, petroleum-based food dye that benefits your health. It was one of the first drugs ever developed, and unlike other artificial food dyes, methylene blue is pharmaceutical grade. It's been used for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, bladder infections, cancer, and more.Methylene blue is chemically different from other artificial food dyes. It helps give the body energy, even when there's damage to the mitochondria. It's beneficial for degenerative neurological disorders and reduces oxidative stress associated with cancer and mitochondrial damage. Artificial food coloring does not have the benefits of the pigments found naturally in food. They don't act as antioxidants or reduce inflammation in the body. They damage the mitochondria, and they don't have nutritional cofactors.Artificial food dyes have been linked to ADD and tumors in rats. Parmigiano Reggiano is a cheese made in Parma, Italy. It's a grass-fed cheese made with high standards not seen in American Parmesan cheese-making. Grass-fed cheese is loaded with microbes that come from the soil. Cows need the help of microbes to digest the fiber in the grass they consume. These microbes produce byproducts from the grass that help nourish the cow. The process of Parmesan cheese-making also involves microbes!Parmigiano Reggiano is made from 3 ingredients: high-quality cow's milk, salt, and an enzyme that turns the milk into cheese. The powdered Parmesan cheese at the grocery store contains cellulose, which is essentially wood pulp. Cellulose is a filler and can legally make up 8% of a product! U.S. Parmesan cheese also contains potassium sorbate. Parmigiano Reggiano is a raw product without fillers or preservatives that's aged at least 12 months. There are no aging requirements for Parmesan cheese. Some Parmigiano Reggiano is aged for 14 to 24 months, or longer. Microbes consume lactose during the aging process, so the finished product is often lactose-free. In 2016, the USDA dropped the official definition of grass-fed. Technically, all cows are grass-fed until the last 3 to 6 months of their lives, when they're typically fattened with grains. However, despite misleading food labels, over 99% of beef in the store is not truly grass-fed. Cows are fed grains to quickly fatten them up, but these aren't “healthy” grains like many people assume. Cows in feedlots are fed DDGS (dried distillers grain with solubles), a cheap waste product of GMO, inedible dent corn used for making ethanol. This is incredibly profitable because it causes the cows to gain weight quickly for very little cost. Fiber, limestone, and synthetic vitamins and minerals are added to this corn byproduct. Monensin, an antibiotic, is also added. Antibiotics are regularly used in feedlots in the U.S. to quickly increase weight gain in animals. Beta-agonists are also used to enhance muscle growth. Some studies have shown that the use of this medication in animals can cause anxiety in the humans who consume them. There are two types of feedlots: open and closed. In closed feedlots, the cows only get 24 square feet of space and around 150 square feet in open feedlots. For truly grass-fed beef, look for 100% grass-fed. Bridget discusses her tumultuous past, including struggles with addiction that began at 17 and her path to recovery at 24, which marked the start of her health journey. Bridget also recounts her early battles with weight, stemming from childhood insecurities and a series of diets, starting from Weight Watchers at a young age. She explored various diet plans over the years, including keto, Noom, and even a celebrity diet she acquired through a relative, but none provided lasting results.After a second open-heart surgery in 2020, Bridget was advised by a cardiologist to try intermittent fasting, a recommendation that resonated with her after previous unsuccessful attempts. Once she learned about the importance of the clean fast, Bridget found success, losing 30 pounds from June to October 2021 with an initial morning eating window and later adapting to Alternate Day Fasting (ADF). When insulin is high, your body stores fat, and you gain weight. When it's low, you lose weight, especially visceral fat surrounding the heart. When you have insulin resistance, your insulin receptors no longer accept insulin. If you have insulin resistance, you may notice the following symptoms:•Waist circumference greater than 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women•Skin tags or darkened armpits or groin area•High triglycerides or low HDL •Difficulty losing weight•Difficulty going for long periods without a mealInsulin resistance can be caused by high-carb, high-sugar diets, stress, and chronic sleep problems. Seed oil consumption is one of the greatest contributors to insulin resistance. Industrial seed oils are highly processed with high heat and chemicals like hexane. Seed oils remain in your cells for over a year, which can damage the insulin receptor on the surface of the cells. A poorly functioning pancreas can result in bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. Baking soda can work as a temporary solution for an acid stomach, but not for indigestion! Indigestion is caused by low stomach acid, so baking soda would only worsen the problem. Apple cider vinegar and betaine hydrochloride can help with indigestion. GERD and acid reflux are also related to low stomach acid, but baking soda can help temporarily. ACV and betaine hydrochloride are better long-term solutions. Baking soda can also help with gastritis, but it should be taken with zinc carnosine for this problem.Stomach acid should be highly acidic with a pH between 1 and 3. Drinking baking soda for long periods can neutralize your stomach acid, inhibiting your ability to digest protein, absorb B12, and absorb minerals. Seed oils can also build up in the liver, inhibiting bile production, which interferes with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamin A. Ultra-processed foods are a major contributor to acne. They contain refined sugars and refined starches, which deplete your zinc. They destroy the liver, which inhibits your ability to use vitamin A. Sugar, starches, and seed oils also contribute to insulin resistance. For the best one-time acne fix that addresses the problem permanently, you must follow a diet that keeps androgens and insulin low, while offering plenty of zinc and vitamin A. Onion juice is a natural hair loss remedy for many different types of hair loss. Whether autoimmune, nutritional, or fungal, onion juice can help stop hair loss naturally and stimulate natural hair growth quickly. Onions are loaded with sulfur, an essential building block for keratin, the protein that builds your hair. Onions have a high amount of quercetin, which is beneficial for autoimmune hair loss cases caused by alopecia. Quercetin helps increase the growth hormones of the hair follicle. It's also a powerful antimicrobial, so it can help protect the scalp against the overgrowth of yeast, fungus, and mold. To use onion juice for hair growth, chop one red onion and blend it in a blender. Put the blended onion through a cheesecloth to separate the liquid from the pulp. Massage the liquid into your scalp for a few minutes in the shower. Don't rinse! Allow the onion juice to sit in your hair for 30 minutes to 1 hour.Rinse your hair and shampoo twice to remove onion odor. Do this twice per week for 4 to 6 weeks. You should notice hair growth after week 3 or 4!To increase the benefits of onion juice for hair, add 5 drops of rosemary oil. In a 2015 randomized trial, rosemary oil was found to be as effective as one of the top medications for alopecia. Rosemary oil has several anti-inflammatory and antioxidant phytonutrients that increase blood flow to the scalp.While onion juice for hair has been proven effective, fermenting it can increase its effectiveness! To do this, combine onion juice, 8 ounces of water, a teaspoon of sea salt, and a ½ teaspoon of raw honey in a glass or mason jar.Cover the mixture with a cheesecloth and allow it to ferment at room temperature for 72 hours. This enhances the quercetin in the onion juice, increasing hair growth. Put the mixture through a cheesecloth to separate the liquid.If you're experiencing hair loss, taking 10,000 to 20,000 IU of vitamin D daily is very beneficial. High blood pressure is not a disease! Learn how to lower blood pressure with dietary changes and increased intake of specific nutrients that act as natural blood pressure remedies in the body. The endothelial layer of your arteries has insulin receptors. When these receptors are damaged, your blood pressure can increase. Too much insulin allows too much calcium to enter the cells, so calcium channel blockers are often used to lower high blood pressure. However, the connection between insulin resistance and high blood pressure is usually ignored. A protective shield called the glycocalyx typically covers the endothelial tissue on the inside of your arteries. When this shield becomes damaged, it can cause a cascade of problems, including cellular damage, inflammation, calcium buildup, and excess clotting. The glycocalyx is vulnerable to damage from glucose and fructose. A low-carb diet and intermittent fasting can help you get healthy and lower your blood pressure quickly. ADHD is often treated with Adderall and Ritalin, which make lots of money for Big Pharma. The definition of ADHD has been dramatically expanded to make it more diagnosable, putting more people on medication.A double-blinded study showed that after 36 months, any benefits from Adderall faded to zero. It also has side effects such as aggressive behavior or a dulled mood. ADHD involves a metabolic problem with the prefrontal cortex of the brain. These metabolic changes affect the way the brain metabolizes fuel. If the brain is starved of fuel, you may exhibit symptoms like a lack of attention and hyperactivity. Chemicals like food dyes, artificial sweeteners, sugar, starch, and MSG tremendously impact behavior. Increasing dopamine can improve focus and feelings of calmness. Foods such as meat, fish, eggs, and cheese are high in the amino acid L-tyrosine, the precursor to dopamine.Research has shown that micronutrients, especially B6, magnesium, and zinc, can significantly decrease ADHD symptoms.
