If you’ve ever felt trapped by diet culture’s rules or found yourself struggling with your relationship with food and body image, this episode is for you. Heather addresses the core fears and misconceptions many women face—seeing food as an enemy rather than a good gift from God. She was fully open to a new approach of rewiring her brain after understanding that binge eating was a habit. (THIS IS KEY!!!)

Most women will research every stroller, bottle, and sleep schedule for their baby but spend almost no time thinking about how to support their own body during pregnancy.  In this episode, I'm sharing a “half baked” pregnancy update and pulling back the curtain on what I've actually been doing to support my body while growing this baby.  The reality is that most prenatal care is focused on monitoring the baby, not optimizing the mother's health. And while that makes sense medically, it also leaves a huge gap in how women care for themselves during one of the most physically demanding seasons of life.  Pregnancy is often treated like a time to pause your health goals, but I see it more like a sport that requires intentional preparation and support. In this episode, I walk through the team I've built around me including a functional practitioner, doula, midwife, pelvic floor physical therapist, chiropractor, and massage therapist and why I chose to outsource as many decisions as possible during this season.  I share what the first trimester actually looked like for me, from fatigue and nausea to the unexpected mental challenge of body image changes.  We also talk about the simple systems I'm using moving into the second and third trimesters, including strength training, daily movement, blood sugar stability, and pelvic floor work.  I explain how I'm thinking about nutrition not just for myself, but for my baby's long-term health and taste development. We'll also talk honestly about the physical discomforts of pregnancy and the moments that can make you question whether something is wrong. Finally, I share how researching birth options shifted my mindset from nervousness to genuine excitement, and why I ultimately decided on a home birth with a midwife and doula while still working with my OB for imaging.  If you're pregnant, planning to be, or just curious about a different approach to supporting your body through pregnancy, this episode offers a real, honest look behind the scenes.   Time Stamps:   (2:54) The Anatomy Scan (11:02) What I'm Doing/Will Do During Pregnancy (14:02) Midwife vs Traditional OBGYN Care (19:43) Letting Experts Help Me (28:24) Choosing A Home Birth --------------------- Find Out More Information on Vital Spark Coaching --------------------- Follow @vanessagfitness on Instagram for daily fitness tips & motivation.  --------------------- Download Our FREE Metabolism-Boosting Workout Program --------------------- Join the Women's Metabolism Secrets Facebook Community for 25+ videos teaching you how to start losing fat without hating your life! --------------------- Click here to send me a message on Facebook and we'll see how I can help or what best free resources I can share! --------------------- Interested in 1-on-1 Coaching with my team of Metabolism & Hormone Experts? As I was editing this week's podcast episode, I accidentally deleted half of it and thought it was gone forever. At first, my heart sank, I was in shock, the blood drained from my face, and I literally said out loud, "Nooooooo!!!"I was ready to call it and my brain started quickly going through my options. As I went through my options, I paused and wanted to connect with my experience of this. I felt the sadness of these words I took the time to speak would be lost forever. I took a moment to grieve this. Giving myself space to feel and move through what was present, I noticed myself regulate. I was ready to choose the option of re-recording and trying to get this podcast out when I could. Then, my husband told me to give him ten minutes and he was able to find the lost content. The interesting thing was I had a mixture of emotions when he found it. I had already grieved what was lost and was getting excited about what I could say differently when I re-recorded and then also relief that these recording was recovered and I could move forward editing the rest and getting it out to you. This is what binge eating recovery can be like: a mixture of highs and lows of being so excited that the binge eating is decreasing and then grief at saying goodbye to something that has supported you for so long and grief at all the reasons that this food behavior came in to help you feel safe and protect you. In this week's episode: I read 3 different Binge Eating Reddit Stories I explore a trauma, somatic, nutritional, and nervous system perspective about what might support these individuals in their binge eatingI get into topics such as binge-restrict cycle, binge eating as a response to nervous system dysregulation, binge eating as a response to trauma, weight stigma, and body controlI offer explorations around binge eating that you might play with for yourself I hope you enjoy this episode and if there is ever a topic you would like me to explore on these Reading Reddit Stories episodes, email me and let me know! With Compassion and Empathy, Stephanie Mara FoxSupport the showKeep in touch with Stephanie Mara:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_stephaniemara/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephaniemarafoxWebsite: https://www.stephaniemara.com/https://www.somaticeating.com/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephmara/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@stephaniemarafoxContact: support@stephaniemara.comSupport the show:Become a supporter: https://www.buzzsprout.com/809987/supportAll affiliate links: https://www.stephaniemara.com/resourcesReceive 15% off my fave protein powder with code STEPHANIEMARA at checkout here: https://www.equipfoods.com/STEPHANIEMARAUse my Amazon Affiliate link when shopping on Amazon: https://amzn.to/448IyPl Special thanks to Bendsound for the music in this episode. www.benso...

You are not failing because you lack discipline. You're struggling because you're trying to live like a machine.  In this episode, I'm breaking down why most systems fall apart the moment life gets hard and how to rebuild yours so it actually works for a human nervous system.  We're taught to design routines assuming endless energy, focus, and motivation, but real life doesn't operate that way. You have limited time, attention, and willpower, and your systems need to reflect that reality.  I explain why the most effective systems are the ones that require the least amount of thinking and decision-making. When stress hits, you don't rise to the occasion. You default to your systems. If your routine only works on your best days, it's not a system, it's a wish. I walk you through how to design structures that hold you steady when you're tired, overwhelmed, or distracted. We'll talk about simplifying your priorities so consistency becomes automatic instead of exhausting.  I introduce the Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C framework to help you escape the all-or-nothing cycle. Plan A is for high-energy days, Plan B supports you when things feel harder, and Plan C keeps you moving forward on your worst days.  Success doesn't need to look the same every day, especially in different seasons of life. Decision fatigue isn't about willpower - it's about how many decisions you're being asked to make when your capacity is already maxed out. And if you've been caught in the diet cycle for years (or decades), you know exactly what I'm talking about. After 25 different diet plans competing for space in your head, every meal becomes another minefield of "am I doing this right?" questions that leave you exhausted before you even start cooking. In this solo episode, I'm sharing Sarah's story (with her permission), who spent the last year working with me to finally break free from diet mentality and decision fatigue.  She's having regular, balanced meals without stress, her cholesterol and blood pressure are down, and for the first time ever, she didn't spiral in the bathing suit change room.I walk you through exactly how we got there, including the biological layer that makes decision fatigue even more challenging in midlife when brain fog, and hormone fluctuations that are all competing for your mental bandwidth. But here's the good news: there are gentle framework strategies that can actually reduce the number of decisions you have to make, help you enjoy the process (not just chase the outcome), and keep you moving forward at your own pace.In this episode, you'll learn:Why decision fatigue is structural, not a character flaw, and why women in midlife are especially vulnerableThe biological layer: how brain fog and cognitive changes in menopause make familiar diet patterns even more temptingThree framework strategies to reduce decision fatigue around food (and why frameworks are NOT the same as rules)How the FEAST framework works in my community to support long-term behavior change without the all-or-nothing trapWhy enjoying the process matters more than rushing to the outcomeRelated Episodes:Rewiring, Not Retiring: How Your Brain Transforms in Menopause with Dr. Sarah McKay Beating the Brain Fog of MenopauseFrom Panic to Peace: Melissa's Food Freedom JourneyReady to reduce your decision fatigue? Something I've noticed in food recovery is that certain foods and meals become associated with dieting. Suddenly, you're afraid or feeling resistance to eating certain vegetables or fruits because these foods have been somatically connected to deprivation and restriction. Your body tenses, your breath gets shallow, you feel tight, and you hear an internal, "NO, don't eat that." You might find yourself questioning if you're on a diet if you choose the salad over the burger. The sensations attached to NO make it feel like eating these foods are "wrong." And when you do eat these foods, you feel panicked about if you're going to get enough, will you be satiated, does this mean you're back on a diet again, and on and on. A part of food recovery can be updating your body's story that all foods are safe but this is not only the foods you have labeled as "bad" but also the foods you used to diet with. In this week's episode, I chat with Bonnie Roney, Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, about: The illusion of control in dietingRebuilding trust with your bodyNavigating the hunger and fullness scaleThe importance of consistent eatingNuances to saying yes and no to foodsUnderstanding food choices beyond dietingVisualizing your life and finding your identity beyond dietsYou can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/making-empowered-food-choices-beyond-diet-cultureI really loved this conversation and you will walk away feeling a lot of relief in how to normalize all of your food decisions. With Compassion and Empathy, Stephanie Mara FoxKeep in touch with Bonnie: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diet.culture.rebel/ Website: https://dietculturerebel.com/Support the showKeep in touch with Stephanie Mara:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_stephaniemara/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephaniemarafoxWebsite: https://www.stephaniemara.com/https://www.somaticeating.com/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephmara/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@stephaniemarafoxContact: support@stephaniemara.comSupport the show:Become a supporter: https://www.buzzsprout.com/809987/supportAll affiliate links: https://www.stephaniemara.com/resourcesReceive 15% off my fave protein powder with code STEPHANIEMARA at checkout here: https://www.equipfoods.com/STEPHANIEMARAUse my Amazon Affiliate link when shopping on Amazon: https://amzn.to/448IyPl Special thanks to Bendsound for the music in this episode. www.benso...

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency's proposed changes to traceability regulations have been a hot topic among the cattle community. And it's kept the Saskatchewan Cattle Association (SCA) and like-minded groups busy, gathering feedback from producers. It all started in December when the CFIA first announced the proposed changes before swift backlash forced them to pause them to do more consultation. Chair of SCA Chad Ross says they were the first ones to call for the pause. He says traceability rules have been an ongoing conversation for more than two decades.AND Canadian marked Food Freedom Day–the day the average Canadian has earned enough to pay for groceries for the rest of the year, according to a report from the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. The CFA says the average Canadian is expected to have spent 12.3 per cent of their disposable income on food.CFA Policy Officer Scott Ross shares some of the findings of the report and says the take-home message is that we have access to high-quality food that’s some of the cheapest in the world.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of the Food Freedom podcast, Coach Mary gets honest about the evolution of recovery and why sometimes, she actually misses the simplicity of the early days. Back then, keto felt like the answer to everything. Life was clear, structured and felt simple, but with growth comes nuance and with nuance comes confusion, overthinking, and fear of doing it “wrong.”Mary talks about the tension between simplicity and complexity in recovery, how too much information can cause analysis paralysis, and why brutal self-honesty is the only way to keep moving forward. If you've been feeling overwhelmed by all the opinions and noise in the health and recovery world, this episode will help you reconnect with your truth and your intuition again.Grab your copy of my FREE 9 page Beginner's Guide to Food Sobriety https://www.foodfreedomwithmary.com/foodsobrietyguideFood Freedom Online Course: https://www.foodfreedomwithmary.com/foodfreedomcourseFood Sobriety Mini Course -https://www.foodfreedomwithmary.com/foodsobrietymcWant to learn more about me and my coaching programs? In this episode, we sit down with Sue Becker, founder of Bread Beckers, for a conversation that goes far beyond bread.Sue has spent decades helping families rediscover the power of freshly milled whole grains, challenging the narrative that bread is the problem and inviting us to reconsider what's actually happened to our food system. Together, we explore how modern processing stripped nutrients from one of the most foundational foods in human history—and how returning to real bread can transform not just physical health, but our relationship with the kitchen, our homes, and even our faith. We talk about:How conventional flour is devoid of nutrients and the health ramifications that ensued after those vital nutrients were removedThe difference between processed flour and freshly milled whole grainWhy many people tolerate real bread beautifully - even those with gluten sensitivitiesWhy real bread has absolutely changed Jaclyn's life and the lives of so many othersThe biblical and historical significance of breadWhy reclaiming traditional food practices is both nourishing and quietly radicalThis episode is about more than nutrition. It's about legacy. It's about slowing down. It's about remembering what our bodies were designed for.If you've ever felt confused about bread, curious about milling your own grain, or hungry for a more intentional way of living, this conversation will both educate and inspire you.GET IN TOUCH WITH SUE:Charity Site: https://www.realbreadoutreach.comFacebook: Sue BeckerInstagram: suebreadbeckersYoutube: Bread BeckersApple Podcast: Sue's Healthy Minutes with Sue BeckerSupport the showDOWNLOAD THE FREQ APP:www.thefreqapp.com VISIT THE SHOP:www.thebeckonsouk.com CONNECT ON SOCIAL:Instagram: @beckonliving, @jaclynsteele, @samthurmond_reiTikTok: @beckonliving JOIN THE HIGH FREQUENCY SOCIETY:Text us at 480-531-6858 and type the word FREQUENCY to receive periodic uplifting, high frequency text messages from Sam and Jaclyn. If you've ever felt like your body is fighting you no matter how “perfect” your nutrition or workouts are, this episode will feel like a deep exhale. Today, I'm sitting down with Soraya Rufener, one of our coaches at Vital Spark, to share the story behind the safety, trust, and results her clients feel from day one. Soraya isn't just highly credentialed as a registered nurse and functional health coach. She's lived through chronic dieting, body distrust, and the exhausting pressure to always “do more.” She started dieting at 13, spent years stuck in restriction cycles, and did everything diet culture promised would work. And yet, nothing was actually healing. In this conversation, we unpack why willpower wasn't the problem, how postpartum healing changed everything, and what rebuilding a body really requires physically, mentally, and emotionally. Soraya shares the moment she stopped punishing her body and learned how to support it instead. We talk about why healing is layered, why consistency matters more than intensity, and how nervous system safety changes outcomes. She also opens up about how her lived experience reshaped the way she coaches postpartum moms and high-achieving women today. Most importantly, we explore what she refuses to repeat from diet culture—and why coaching women differently matters. If you're exhausted, frustrated, or quietly wondering why nothing seems to work anymore, this episode will remind you that you're not broken. You're unsupported. Time Stamps: (1:17) Our Incredible Coach Soraya (6:02) Early Teen Soraya (9:17) Finding Bodybuilding (15:02) The Food Noise (17:09) Shifting To The Healing Phase (19:55) The Mental Side of Healing (22:47) 3 Kids In 4 Years and The Postpartum Journey (31:23) Our Bodies Aren't The Enemy (34:15) Where To Find Soraya---------------------Find Out More Information on Vital Spark Coaching---------------------Follow @vanessagfitness on Instagram for daily fitness tips & motivation. ---------------------Download Our FREE Metabolism-Boosting Workout Program---------------------Join the Women's Metabolism Secrets Facebook Community for 25+ videos teaching you how to start losing fat without hating your life!---------------------Click here to send me a message on Facebook and we'll see how I can help or what best free resources I can share!---------------------Interested in 1-on-1 Coaching with my team of Metabolism & Hormone Experts? Twenty years ago, I dug Valentine's Day chocolates out of the trash. And that moment kicked off 15 years of restriction, rules, all-or-nothing dieting, and solid disordered eating patterns that I didn't even recognize at the time.In this episode of Mastering Menopause, I'm sharing the story of the Valentine's Day that changed everything — the 1,200 calorie era, the keto obsession, intermittent fasting, marathon training, and the years of believing I just “couldn't be trusted” around food.I was really good at losing weight.I just sucked at maintaining it.I lived in the constant cycle of:• Restrict Monday through Thursday• Blow it on the weekend• Start over on Monday• Create new rules• Break them• Beat myself upI stopped baking cookies for my kids.I wouldn't keep “trigger foods” in the house.I truly believed I had no control.Until I learned how to eat in a way that actually supported my metabolism instead of fighting it.In this episode, I talk about:• How restriction creates obsession• Why 1,200 calories isn't the solution• The mental freedom that comes from tracking macros properly• Why protein is the secret sauce• The difference between control and food freedom• And how I can now have two chocolates and move on with my lifeThis is especially for the woman in her 40s or 50s who feels stuck in the restrict–binge–restart cycle and thinks menopause is the reason she can't maintain weight loss. It's not.Your metabolism just needs a different approach. If you're ready to break the cycle, I'm currently enrolling for the FIT AF Metabolic Fat Loss Accelerator — a 4-week program where we spend:• 2 weeks at true maintenance• 2 weeks in a precision fat loss phase• With macro guidance, workouts, and real food freedomhttps://go.katalystfitness.net/fatloss-acceleratorIf this episode resonated, share it with a friend who needs to hear it.You don't have to live at war with your body or food anymore.Thank you so much for listening, please share with a friend and subscribe so you don't miss an episode! If you want to see how we can help you on your journey, book a quick 10-15 minute call so we can chat about your goals!https://www.menopotmeltdown.com/quickchatnow Now accepting clients! Ep. 262 Why Your Nervous System Must Be Regulated For Healing, Fat Loss, And Hormone Balance

If fat loss feels harder than it should and healing seems slow no matter what you try, the problem may not be your discipline. It may be your nervous system. In this conversation, I explain why a chronically dysregulated nervous system can block healing, fat loss, and hormone balance no matter how perfect your protocols look on paper.  Your body is always choosing survival first, and when it perceives constant stress, it will not prioritize digestion, repair, or metabolic efficiency. I walk you through how your brain interprets everyday stress the same way it would a life-or-death threat, keeping you stuck in fight or flight.  This is why cortisol stays elevated, inflammation lingers, and progress feels frustratingly slow. I break down why this isn't a mindset issue or a lack of discipline, but a physiological response rooted in your nervous system.  We dive into the role of the vagus nerve and how it connects your brain, gut, hormones, and stress response. I explain what vagal tone is and why improving it creates the conditions your body needs to feel safe enough to heal.  You'll learn simple, practical vagus nerve–supporting practices you can use daily without adding more overwhelm. We also talk about why these tools are supportive, not magical fixes, and how they enhance everything you're already doing. If you're dealing with stubborn fat loss, gut issues, thyroid challenges, or chronic stress, this episode lays the foundation you may be missing.  Nervous system regulation isn't optional or fluffy. It's essential. When your body feels safe, healing becomes possible. Time Stamps: (1:19) Lots of Things Going On(4:54) Getting Out Of Survival Mode(7:52) The Vagus Nerve(13:55) Strategies For Improving Your Nervous System---------------------Find Out More Information on Vital Spark Coaching---------------------Follow @vanessagfitness on Instagram for daily fitness tips & motivation.
