Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Run Your Life Like a Business With a Positive ROI June 12, 2025 | Episode - 5114 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Want to transform your life and actually see results? I'm sharing my four-step approach to running your life like a business to get a positive return on investment in everything you do. After 20 years and over 5,000 episodes, I've learned that success comes down to treating your personal growth like a profitable business. No more spinning your wheels or ending up with less than you started with. Featured Story Scott opens up about a vulnerable moment when his wife forgot to make his lunch before leaving for an appointment, making him feel like a three-year-old asking “What am I going to eat, mommy?” This honest story leads into a powerful discussion about how businesses require positive ROI, and your life should too. Just like a business can't survive losing money, you shouldn't invest time and energy into activities that leave you worse off than when you started. Important Points Every business must generate profit to survive, and your life should operate the same way - you need positive returns on your investments of time and energy. Most people have experienced ending up with less than they started with in some area of life, but unlike businesses that can fail completely, you have the ability to switch gears and change direction when needed. The key to success lies in measuring your progress consistently, just like weighing yourself daily when losing weight, because “if you can't measure it, you can't succeed.” Memorable Quotes “Do more of what you love and less of what you don't. That's it.” “If you can't measure it, you can't succeed. You can only get where you want to go if you know where you're going.” “Life is better when you have a positive return, a positive ROI in everything that you do.” Scott's Three-Step Approach Decide what you do when you're living a happy life and be very specific. Get in touch with what truly makes you happy - it's probably simpler than you think and something you might not want to admit right now. Be flexible in your approach, find what works, lock it in, refine it if necessary, and keep doing it. Expect detours and changes, but stay committed to what consistently works for you. Set benchmarks, measure your progress, and when you miss milestones, immediately adjust and get back on track. Create key performance indicators for your life and use them to stay accountable to your goals. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. You'll discover why self-belief is the foundation of long-term success and how to stop treating every moment like it's the Super Bowl. If you're ready to move from survival mode to sustainable growth, this conversation is for you.

Send me a Text Message! You know I look around in central PA, and it's not just here, I hear of stirrings in other places as well. I think Jesus is getting ready to bring his church into a new season; a season of seeing His Kingdom come in new ways; a season of making a serious difference in the world around us. It won't happen without prayer and breakthrough prayer is almost always connected to fasting. But Isaiah 58 reminds us that fasting and prayer isn't enough. In fact, Isaiah reminds us that while we won't make a difference if we don't pray, our prayers won't even be heard if we don't care about the people around us. But if we care, then a new day will come and you can barely imagine a life like the one Isaiah 58 says is coming!
The dispute over Western Sahara is one of Africa's longest running wars – starting in 1975. It pits Morocco against the Polisario Front- an Algerian backed political movement. But while the international community has focussed on finding a diplomatic solution – the plight of the indigenous Sahrawi people, who used to live on the disputed land, is often forgotten. They have been living in difficult-to-access refugee camps in Algeria for the past 50 years, amidst allegations that they're being used as pawns in a wider struggle. So what is their life like? And is there any hope that this long running conflict can be resolved? GUESTS: Moroccan politician and activist, Lahcen Haddad, and the BBC's Sally Nabil who's visited the camps.

We live in a world that constantly prioritizes convenience—fast food, quick fixes, and instant results. But what happens when we take that same approach to our own lives? In this episode, I dive into how we've been conditioned to prioritize efficiency over true self-investment and why that's holding us back from real growth, joy, and fulfillment. If you've ever struggled with feeling like an “inconvenience” or putting yourself last, this episode is for you.Episode Breakdown:
An Interview with Dr. Meredith J. C. Warren We asked Dr. Meredith J. C. Warren to describe how Jesus's family and followers would have practiced their religion. They were probably a typical Jewish family, where the types of houses and everyday life were all intertwined with religious practices. She claims that both Jesus and his mother were probably less unusual than we have been taught to think, especially in everyday life—except that Jesus was probably more radical in his commitment to Torah teachings. Dr. Meredith J. C. Warren is a Senior Lecturer in Biblical and Religious Studies at the University of Sheffield, in England, where she is director of the Sheffield Centre for Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies and is editor in chief of its journal, The Journal of Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies. She is also an associate editor for the Enoch Seminar Online Reviews. Her publications include several books and articles, and they cover topics such as gender, anti-Judaism, feminism, the senses, and clothing for early Judaism and early Christianity. Her co-authorship of Jewish and Christian Women in the Ancient Mediterranean provides the basis of this podcast interview. In addition to this interview on the Bible and Beyond Podcast, Warren has given interviews on BBC Radio, NPR, and The Guardian. A transcript of this interview is available here: https://earlychristiantexts.com/jesus-practice-religion/.

The high cost of housing (and life in general) is forcing many young people to move back in with their parents, if they ever moved out in the first place. Maclean's journalist Claire Gagne looks at what that means for both the young adults stuck in their childhood bedrooms, and their parents' hopes and dreams for retirement — and perhaps an empty nest.
Scott Smith shares a powerful story about following GPS navigation in Colorado that led him down a dangerous road, using this as a metaphor for life's navigation systems. She also announces her beloved annual workshop, "Live Like an Editor," a transformative five-day experience designed to help participants gain a fresh perspective on their lives.
