The Invisible Taxes That Are Quietly Stealing Your Wealth Most people think taxes are the biggest drain on their money. The truth is the silent taxes hurt far more. In this episode, I break down the hidden wealth killers that no one talks about. Idle cash sitting in the wrong accounts. Missed automation. Delayed investing. Financial arrogance. Overwhelm. Doomscrolling. Fear of asking for help. These are not one time mistakes. They are repeated small leaks that compound against you over time. We walk through real examples of how these invisible taxes show up and exactly how to eliminate them with simple structure and awareness. The danger is not one bad decision. The danger is repeating it quietly for years. Once you see it, you cannot ignore it. Pastor Richard Crisco | Rochester Christian ChurchWelcome to Rochester Christian Church Online! Today, Pastor Richard Crisco brings a powerful message titled The Idle Creates Idols. In this message, we explore a sobering reality: when our lives are filled with idle time and unguarded moments, those spaces rarely stay empty. The idle creates idols. In the stillness we avoid, distractions grow. In the silence we fear, substitutes take shape. Pastor Richard challenges us to reintroduce true stillness before God, replacing idle scrolling with prayer moments, establishing sacred digital boundaries, and learning to give thanks in all circumstances. Rather than allowing our devices, distractions, or busyness to shape our hearts, we are called to cultivate intentional stillness and gratitude. When we invite God into our quiet moments, He transforms them from idle time into holy time. Come expecting to be challenged, refocused, and drawn deeper into a life marked by prayer, discipline, and thanksgiving. Share this stream with friends and family—it could be exactly what they need today.
Tonight's reading comes from Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, published in 1886, written by Jerome K. Jerome. It is a gentle collection of humorous reflections on everyday life - wandering thoughts about work, leisure, weather, memory, habits, and the small observations that fill ordinary days.
Greg Damon, General Manager at Sparks Tire and Auto, joins Megan Lynch. He calls the new idle start/stop feature, 'the most annoying thing ever,' He tells Megan Lynch about the added wear and tear and stress added to vehicles with this feature. He points out that many cars that have this feature, include an easy way to shut it down. (Photo by Harold Cunningham/Getty Images)

Dragon Traveler is not subtle. It's a waifu-driven idle RPG, built for scale, speed, and monetization efficiency, and it's working. Especially in the US. Despite being a fresh launch (mid-January), the game is already doing $300k–500k per day, with a heavy US + Asian revenue split, thousands of creatives in rotation, and extremely aggressive UA. We speak because we are afraid to be still. We speak because silence exposes us. We speak because when the mouth closes the heart begins to make noise and that noise is often unbearable. The Fathers knew this long before psychology gave it names. They knew that speech is not neutral. It is not just communication. It is an outflow of what is ruling the inner world. Every word carries the weight of the heart behind it. This is why Abba Pambo could stand at death and say that he had not repented of a single word and yet also say that he had not even begun to serve God. He knew what speech costs. He knew how easily a careless phrase can wound another, harden the self or invite the demons into the space between people. He did not trust his own clarity. He waited. He let months pass rather than speak a word that was not born from God. That kind of restraint feels almost inhuman to us. We live in a world that rewards immediacy. We are trained to answer quickly, react quickly, express quickly, post quickly, correct quickly. But speed is not truth. Speed is often panic wearing a clever face. The monk who waits to speak is not slow. He is standing before God inside himself. He is listening for something that is not his own. The Elder says that a man can be silent with his lips and loud with his heart. That is the most damning line in this whole section. You can say nothing and still be screaming. You can be quiet and still be condemning everyone around you. You can appear peaceful while your mind is devouring your brothers. Another man can speak all day and yet remain silent because he refuses to let his words become weapons, judgments or self display. Silence is not a style. It is a spiritual state. Idle talk is not mostly obscene or stupid. It is unnecessary. It is speech that does not serve salvation. It is talk that fills the space so we do not have to face what is happening inside. We speak about bodies and opinions and events and annoyances and plans because these are safer than the truth of our hearts. The moment we speak about what is good we discover how quickly evil slips in. Pride sneaks into holy words. Comparison sneaks into spiritual conversation. The self sneaks into everything. This is why the Elder answers the brother who wants a word to be saved with something that sounds almost trivial. Do not hasten to speak before you consider what you are going to say. That is not etiquette. That is warfare. To pause before speaking is to interrupt the automatic rule of the ego. It is to refuse to let the tongue be driven by irritation, hunger for recognition or the need to be right. It is to create a small space where God might enter. Most of what we say is not meant to help anyone. It is meant to regulate ourselves. We speak to soothe anxiety. We speak to discharge frustration. We speak to draw attention. We speak to feel real. We speak to avoid the ache of not being in control. The mouth becomes a narcotic. The more we use it the less we notice how enslaved we are to it. This is why the Fathers are so severe. They are not moralizing. They are diagnosing a sickness. The soul that cannot keep watch over its words cannot keep watch over its thoughts. The heart that pours itself out through constant speech cannot remain gathered before God. It leaks. It disperses. It becomes weak. The tragedy is that we confuse expression with honesty. We think that saying what we feel is the same as bringing it to God. It is not. Most of the time it just feeds the feeling. It strengthens the pattern. It builds a little kingdom around the self. We call it authenticity but it is often captivity. The monk learns slowly and painfully that every word either bends him toward God or bends him toward himself. There is no neutral speech. Either it deepens prayer or it corrodes it. Either it builds communion or it sows division. Either it creates space for grace or it fills the room with ego. This is why the saint waits. This is why the Elder warns. This is why the Fathers tremble before idle talk. They have seen what words do to the heart. They have watched souls unravel because the mouth was never taught to kneel. To learn silence is not to become mute. It is to become true. It is to let God have the first and last word inside you. And until that happens every sentence we speak is a small gamble with our soul. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:00:31 Fr. Charbel Abernethy: Page 353 00:01:32 Fr. In this week's Overdrive Radio, part 2 of our series honoring our Trucker of the Year, John Penn, for the big win for 2025. Part 1, ICYMI: https://overdriveonline.com/15815690 In this edition, Penn details his approach to maintenance with an experiment he's conducted to extend oil drain intervals beyond the manufacturer-recommended 75,000 miles for his 2019 Freightliner Cascadia. Also: You'll hear about Penn's close attention to customer opportunity, and keys to prevention when it comes to the maintenance issues with emissions system in the Cascadia -- no "deleted" emissions here. He's running with all the sensors and the diesel particular filter, the diesel exhaust fluid dosing, and the rest, and hitting big fuel-efficiency numbers we detailed in the last episode featuring him. Above 10 mpg for a lifetime average is certainly nothing to sniff at, but has he been plagued with sensor failures and other problems common to emissions-equipped diesels? The answer is not really, though he's had some minor issues for certain. Part of his success on that front starts with his approach to the used market for such trucks to begin with -- with a keen eye not just on a prospective purchase's miles for previous-life wear and tear, but engine hours, too. The lower the hours, the less the unit's prior owner likely idled the rig -- one of the big killers of emissions equipment in modern trucks in his view. Penn, despite his late-model equipment, might well qualify among the oldest of the old-school in that regard. As he put it about his own idling practice: "This piece of machinery is feeding us and keeping a roof over our head," Penn noted, "so I want to treat it the best I can. I will not idle, ever. I don't care how hot it is." That's right, even in Texas in mid-summer, where he finds himself often enough at the end of one or another of his LTL furniture runs. "I don't have an APU or anything," he added, but he does utilize a fan and his truck's window screens. He's comfortable with the tradeoff. "I'd rather put my truck's health in front of my comfort," he said, laughing. He does run with a fuel-fired heater for those dangrously cold temps, but it's safe to say Trucker of the Year John Penn is one tough customer when it comes to downtime OTR. In the podcast, dive into new opportunities he's set himself up for with diligent, always-on customer service and networking. "You never know when an opportunity is going to pop up," he said, about potential new direct freight opportunites he details here. And he's made great strides, too, paying his growing experience forward to peers. There's good possibility of a bit of expansion for his one-truck JP Transport business as soon as this quarter, with addition of a leased owner he's really bonded with as a back-and-forth sounding board for trucking information, knowledge, advice. The like-minded pair may soon make for a great two-truck hauling team in JP Transport. Enter the 2026 Trucker of the Year competition: https://overdriveonline.com/toptrucker
Writer and game designer Kat Clay joins Liz and Ben to point and click on Rincewind once more, as we discuss the 1996 graphic adventure game Discworld II: Missing, Presumed…!? from Perfect Entertainment. When the wizard Windle Poons dies, no-one comes to collect his soul – and this isn't the first time Death has been derelict in his duty. Something must be done, and the Archchancellor knows just the man for the job: so-called wizard and veteran videogame protagonist, Rincewind! Can he – that is to say, you – navigate an ever more fiendish chain of elaborate tasks to summon Death, and persuade him to go back to work? Or will the Disc be doomed to immortality? The first Discworld point-and-click graphic adventure, released in 1995, was a hit. So of course Perfect Entertainment – the merged form of Teeny Weeny Games and Perfect 10 Productions – returned just one year later with a sequel. While not quite as well known as the original, Discworld II: Missing, Presumed…!? (or Discworld II: Mortality Bytes in the US) once again features Eric Idle as Rincewind, a cast of thousands (voiced by three), and a plot constructed from bits of Discworld novels (mostly Reaper Man and Mort). It also features an original song written and performed by Idle, a brand new visual style, and more fourth wall breaks than you can shake a Suffrajester at. The team, headed by Angela Sutherland and Gregg Barnett, would go on to produce one more Discworld game: Discworld Noir, a brand new story with an original protagonist. But like its stablemates, Discworld 2 is currently out of publication. Have you played Discworld 2? Did you find it easier than the first one? Was it written with an awareness that women play videogames? Do you prefer the cel-animation look of this game, or the cartoony pixels of the first one? Does it feel more like the Discworld, or a spin-off from Monty Python? And for subscribers especially, would you like to watch Ben stream these games and play along? Join our online conversation by using your fingers with the social media platform, and then clicking on the hashtag #Pratchat92. In this Mussar Masterclass (Day 116) from Orchos Tzaddikim's Gate of Silence, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe teaches the seven hallmarks of a wise person (chacham) versus a fool (golem): a wise person speaks only after greater/older people, avoids interrupting, answers thoughtfully and in order, admits "I didn't hear" or "I don't know," and concedes truth—while a fool does the opposite.Silence earns reward when listening to the wise, but becomes sinful when rooted in arrogance ("I know more"). Wise speech adds flavor like salt or a ruby in gold; weak or foolish words are ignored. If your advice is rejected, quietly share it through someone influential instead of persisting.Idle chatter (sichah betelah) destroys concentration in prayer and fear of heaven—guarding speech like precious jewels in layered safes is essential. The episode concludes with an introduction to four categories (mockers, liars, flatterers, slanderers) who cannot receive the Divine Presence, promising deeper exploration next time.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on July 1, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on January 11, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Too many people build up cash value in their life insurance and then… do nothing with it. That's a massive mistake. Your policy isn't just a savings account — it's a launchpad for wealth. When you learn to leverage it correctly, that same dollar can work two, three, even four times at once. Here's the secret: your cash value keeps compounding inside the policy even while you borrow against it. That means you can use it to fund real estate, e-commerce, equipment leasing, Bitcoin mining, or even your own business — all while it's still growing safely in the background. This is how real wealth builders play the game: Your money compounds. You collateralize it. You leverage it into income-producing or appreciating assets. You do it all tax-efficiently. Every day your cash value sits idle is a day you're missing out on double compounding power.

Lost throughput opportunity is the silent and permanent cash killer. It's silent because it's hard to notice. You can see payroll. You can see churn. But you can’t see the products that never shipped, or the hour you can’t recover. And it's permanent because you can't ever get that cash opportunity back. A lost shipping opportunity is gone, forever. Idle time doesn’t show up on your P&L while still bleeding you dry.
