On this episode of Sex Advice for Seniors, I had the pleasure of chatting with Susan Morgan Taylor, a somatic sex therapist from beautiful North Carolina. Susan works with couples to help them reconnect with their bodies and each other, using somatic methods to explore desire and intimacy. If you've ever wondered how to reignite the spark or expand your idea of pleasure, this episode will inspire you!Susan explained that somatic sex therapy focuses on the body and sensations rather than just talking things through. She shared how couples can learn to notice what feels good, express their desires, and explore different types of touch—beyond the obvious areas. It's about slowing down, paying attention, and creating space for pleasure to unfold naturally. I loved Susan's reminder that pleasure and orgasm aren't things someone gives you; they're already inside you, waiting to be unlocked. We also tackled the common issue of mismatched libidos in relationships. Susan's take? Stop blaming each other! Instead, understand how you're both wired differently and learn to meet in the middle. She shared some brilliant tips, like finding your voice to express what you want and being open to what your partner needs. As Susan said, “What would change if you took 100% responsibility for your own pleasure?” A game-changing question, right? If you're curious to learn more, check out Susan's website, pathwaytopleasure.com, where you'll find her retreats, masterclasses, and even a free ebook. Welcome to the eighth episode of the 2025 Global Leadership Summit Recap Series on Stories from the River! This week, CEO Charlie Malouf is joined by Carl Hillesland, Director of Retail Performance at Broad River Retail, to reflect on Christine Caine's powerful session at the Summit. Christine Caine—author, speaker, and founder of the A21 anti-human trafficking campaign—shared her personal journey of discovering her life's purpose and the critical turning point that led her to confront the realities of human trafficking. In her talk, she warned leaders about the danger of drift—the subtle but steady loss of vision and purpose that happens when we simply do nothing. Charlie and Carl explore how Christine's stories, like discovering she was adopted and later encountering the vast scope of human trafficking, illustrate the need to stay anchored to a clear why. They unpack her vivid analogy of two beach umbrellas representing boundaries that prevent us from drifting and discuss how Memory Makers can apply these ideas in their own work and lives. The conversation highlights: - How to recognize and combat “drift” in leadership and life - The importance of boundaries, vision, and purpose to stay aligned - Practical ways Memory Makers are already using Christine's message to realign with their mission - Why leaders must intentionally Re-Anchor, Rebuild, and Reignite their passion to avoid languishing or losing focus This episode is a call to action for Memory Makers to be intentional lighthouses—staying grounded, shining with purpose, and helping others navigate life's currents toward meaningful impact. The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
In this episode of the Dad Edge Podcast, Ethan and I dive into a topic most men don't talk about nearly enough—male friendships. From high school bonds that fade after graduation to the loneliness many men feel in their 30s and 40s, we unpack why brotherhood is so hard to maintain and why it matters more than ever. We share personal stories, both from Ethan's perspective at 19 and my experience at 50, about what it looks like to build lasting friendships at different stages of life. From the silent killers of connection—busyness, unspoken expectations, and lack of intentionality—to the keys that keep brotherhood alive, this episode is a raw and honest roadmap for men who don't want to go through life alone. TIMELINE SUMMARY [0:00] - Welcome to the Dad Edge movement and today's theme: friendships and brotherhood [1:02] - Why male friendships dwindle after high school [2:45] - How friendships shift in your 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s [4:58] - Why achievement never replaces connection [6:13] - Ethan's perspective at 19: losing friends as everyone goes their separate ways [8:46] - Larry's college stories: parties, hangovers, and life lessons learned the hard way [12:23] - The shift from convenience-based friendships to intentional ones [15:01] - Why men struggle to make new friendships as they age [17:30] - The role of shared struggle, vulnerability, and consistency in building brotherhood [21:10] - Why “let's hang out sometime” rarely works—and what to do instead [25:18] - Larry's example of rekindling friendships with intentional planning [28:35] - How marriage and fatherhood shift men's priorities and isolate them [31:05] - The silent killers of friendship: busyness, lack of vulnerability, inconsistency [34:16] - Why brotherhood is essential for emotional, spiritual, and relational health [37:02] - Advice for young men: stay proactive, visit friends, make memories now [41:33] - How to prevent friendships from fading with intentionality and consistency [48:11] - Parallels between the silent killers of friendship and the silent killers of marriage [54:09] - Final reflections: why men need brotherhood and how to fight for it 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS 1. Friendships Require Intentionality Unlike the easy friendships of high school and college, adult brotherhood must be built with deliberate effort—planning, showing up, and refusing to drift. 2. Achievement Doesn't Replace Connection No amount of success, money, or accolades can substitute for the bond of brotherhood. Men need friendships to thrive, not just careers and families. 3. Vulnerability Creates Real Brotherhood Surface-level conversations keep men distant. True friendship grows when we open up honestly about struggles, challenges, and real life behind the scenes. 4. Consistency Keeps Bonds Alive Friendships die in silence. Weekly check-ins, shared rituals, or even planned coffee dates create the reps that make brotherhood last. 5. The Same Rules Apply to Marriage The silent killers of friendship—busyness, lack of vulnerability, loss of intentionality—also destroy marriages. Strong relationships, whether with friends or a spouse, require consistent effort and openness. Send us a textHave you ever felt inexplicably drained after spending time with certain people? Or found yourself replaying conversations over and over long after they've ended? The heaviness you're carrying might not even be yours.Soul ties represent emotional or spiritual entanglements that can profoundly impact our wellbeing. These connections can form through love, shared trauma, or even survival instincts. While soul ties can be positive, energetic cords—the invisible tethers that drain us—are inherently negative. They emerge from unhealed emotions and unhealthy attachments, often attaching to specific areas of our bodies like the gut (affecting identity), heart (emotional dependency), or brain (obsessive thoughts).Freedom doesn't require cutting people off. Instead, it comes from untangling what was never yours to carry. The release process begins with awareness—asking what's draining you that you've mistaken for love or loyalty. Then comes intention—consciously severing these connections through affirmations that reclaim what's yours. Finally, seal the release by replacing broken ties with peace. For parents and caregivers, this understanding is particularly powerful. The "apron strings" necessary when our children or loved ones need our care shouldn't become invisible leashes as they (or we) grow.Ready to explore your own holy release? Nationally acclaimed author and founder of the Every Monday Matters movement, Matthew Emerzian, sits down with Steve Riley to have a conversation about purpose, connection, and building a life that truly matters. Matthew's story did not begin with a breakdown. From the outside, it looked like he had it all. He lived in Beverly Hills, working in the music industry with world-famous bands like U2 and Coldplay. He traveled, enjoyed success, and was part of an exciting, fast-paced world. Then, one night after a blind date arranged by his parents' best friends, he realized something that would change the course of his life. Despite the outward success, he had no real purpose or direction. That realization sent him searching for meaning. He began therapy, which he jokingly calls his “expensive friend,” and started exploring the idea of human-centered design. He wanted to understand how to design a life that put people first, starting with himself, extending to others, and reaching into his work and the world around him. This search led him to create Every Monday Matters, a movement that inspires people to live intentionally and remember that they matter. Over time, it grew into a global message: I matter, you matter, we matter. In this episode, Matthew and Steve explore how that philosophy can transform a law practice. They discuss how “Every Monday Matters” can guide client relationships, strengthen workplace culture, and influence leadership. They talk about why empathy, self-awareness, and kindness are not just good values, but essential tools for success. Matthew shares ways to integrate these values into daily habits so they create real change. He explains how living with intention can improve both personal fulfillment and professional impact. His message is clear: when you believe you matter, it changes how you show up for everyone around you. Matthew walked away from the high life to build a more meaningful one. Today, through Every Monday Matters, he helps people discover purpose in their own lives, one intentional choice at a time. Catch Matthew Emerzian live at this year's Summit! Matthew will take the Summit stage as a keynote speaker with Human-Centered Leadership: How to Prioritize Mental Health, Increase Well-Being, and Mitigate Burnout Across High-Performing Teams. On this week's episode I acknowledge how helpful it is to remember and reignite some of the meaningful experiences we've had, even if life tends to tuck them away on a shelf. Being with my cousin and her husband last week, and their genuine interest in my June trip to Vietnam, I remembered and reignited a deeply moving experience I had. My visit to the Tu Hieu Temple where Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh was ordained at the age of 16 and where he returned to for the last 8 years of his life, was recalled and honored. I am so grateful to remember and reignite how important that visit to the temple was, what it felt like to be in the energetic presence of an Enlightened One. May you remember and reignite some of your meaningful experiences and delight in their richness.
