Today Matt helps us understand why real estate may be a foundational aspect of a Millennials investment portfolio. He first discusses what type of Millennial may be interested in property as an asset class before going on to explain how to assess a real estate deal using metrics such as yield and capital growth. At this point, Matt shares a concept called Leverage, which is the main reason he himself invests in real estate. Finally, we finish up by explaining some key market influences on property prices which may help educate you when purchasing your own investment property.
Today Matt aims to be as transparent with you as possible. He starts by explaining his financial journey, which began with doing chores for 5c of pocket money, before going on to calculate his financial position with you. He then explains his future goals, why he’s doing all of this in the first place. Finally, he finishes off by offering you a few tips in how you can get yourself started on the road to financial freedom.
Today Matt leads on from last weeks episode where we introduced the idea of an Astute Investor. This week, Matt explains to us the four core asset classes, their individual characteristics, and how we can invest in each. He then goes on to explain the concepts of Time Horizon and Risk Tolerance before explaining how these factors have influenced his decision-making when it comes to investing in each of the core asset classes himself.
Today Matt brings us along as he dives head first into what it takes to become an Astute Investor. He begins by giving us some valuable resource tips for further learning, before explaining some tips in getting ourselves in the mindset to get started. Finally he takes us through the reasons why we should be investing and explains the fundamental concept of long-term investing; compound growth. Come along for the ride in the first part of two episodes on the Astute Investor.
In todays episode, Matt introduces us to the Wealth Generator, the financial system which has allowed him to save $50,000 in 5 years, whilst studying full time. He discusses how to set up the Wealth Generator as well as how to automate and allocate this system so we don’t have to worry about it day to day. Finally he walks us through his own personal Wealth Generator with REAL figures, to show you just how easy it is to set up.
Today Matt explains the key traits of an Effective Money Executive. He also discusses how a Millennial at this stage in their journey can use the Concept of Two Levers to increase their ability to save, therefore speeding up their journey to financial freedom. Today, Matt shares with you, his experience implementing the mindset of a Millennial Savings Planner. We begin by discussing the fundamental mindset shift a Millennial must make if they want for a financially free future. Once he’s drilled that into us a couple thousand times, we then move on to his version of old-fashioned goalsetting; Destination Forecasting. This is where we get to put our new mindset to the test and meet our Maker. Finally, Matt wraps it up by explaining how he implements this mindset by walking us through his most recent Destination Forecasting ritual, and gives us a sneak peak of next weeks topic.
Today, Matt talks about the good, the bad and the ugly behind the one thing keeping most Millennials from achieving their financial goals. When used correctly, debt can be the fuel to the Astute Investors fire, but used inappropriately, and it could be the demise of our hopes and dreams. We start by contrasting good and bad debt, before Matt gives explains interest rates and the things to watch out for. The episode is then wrapped up with a conversation over which debts you should tackle first.
In this weeks episode, Matt continues the foundational series with an introduction to our ‘financial position’. He then goes on to explain why knowing our financial position is so important if we’re planning for our financial future, and how to do a back-of-the-napkin calculation to determine our financial position at any point in time. Next, Matt introduces us all to the Millennial Map, a roadmap for us millennials to plot our current financial position and help see our financial path more clearly. From the Debt Reducer, through the Savings Planner and Effective Money Executive to the Astute Investor, we can all very likely see ourselves in one of these four categories right now. Finally, Matt wraps up the episode with a good ole’ example, bringing our fictitious characters from last week, James & Mia, back for another appearance. This time, we calculate their financial positions and plot them within one of the four quartiles of the Millennial Map. Enjoy!
In this episode, Matt talks about different aspects that make up our psychology around money. He discusses our Money Complexes which are often handed down to us from our parents, some external influences on our psychology such as social media and social context, and finally introduces a study which shows us how we unconsciously spend up to 20% more when paying on credit.
