However, each game is different and a different approach may be required. So when can we manage disciplinary sanction? And how can we make sure we simply don't avoid giving cards, but we manage players to our advantage to enhance our match control? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this episode, Jack & Ale talk about approaching being assessed, observed, mentored or coached as a referee. As observers are a fundamental part of a referee's development, the most important thing is keeping an open mind about the feedback that is given on match day and in the report. Not all the solutions you may be given may work for you, but it is important to be opened to experimenting and taking in the feedback from an impartial and outside person. We also talk about how important it is to make the observers feel included and part of the team, so that everyone is comfortable and able to give and receive feedback in an honest and constructive manner.
