Evan and Tiki Hour 2 7-25-2025: Discussing future trade ideas for the Yankees post acquiring Ryan McMahon - would trading Trent Grisham make room for Spencer Jones? Can the Yankees find more pitchers.
“I hope this works out…” You ever caught yourself saying that? Let's be real — most high-achievers work hard and prepare well. But deep down, they're still carrying doubt. And doubt under pressure? It'll bury you. That's why I had to get MLB All-Star, Shane Greene, on the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show. This dude didn't just pitch in the Big Leagues — he closed games on the biggest stages, for the game's most storied franchises. And he lived the mental fight: from underdog to All-Star from overthinking to locked in. From hoping to BELIEVING. This episode is for every leader, athlete, and executive who's tired of playing scared and is ready to show up ready for every fight they face. If that's you, lock into this episode. In this episode, you will hear: Why hope is NOT a strategy (and what to do instead) How to grade yourself under pressure — and stay confident no matter the outcome The secret to turning your greatest weakness into your edge The power of your words — and how they literally shape your brain and environment Key Quotes “Hope is not a strategy. If I'm on the roof and you ask if I'll catch you, and I say, ‘hopefully' — are you going to jump?” “If you believe, then there's no doubt. But if you're hoping, then you're doubting.” - Shane Greene “Baseball is probably the only sport in the world where you can do everything right and still lose.” - Shane Greene “Did I come to compete today? That's the most important thing.” - Shane Greene “Your words are changing your water — and you can also change the water around you with the words that you're speaking.” - Shane Greene Resources from this Episode All Social Media: @Sagreeney Shane's Book Recommendation: Hidden Messages of Water, by Masaru Emoto Connect with J.R. We are witnessing the season of Cal Raleigh, he is breaking record after record and showing up in big moments on the national stage. His most recent accolade was winning the MLB Homerun Derby last night, becoming the 1st catcher to ever win it. // Need to Know: Cal Raleigh almost did not make it out of the 1st round of the HR Derby, he beat out Brent Rooker by less than an inch to advance to the semi-finals and goes on to win it all. He is the 1st catcher ever to win the Derby. The Mariners went through day 2 of the MLB Draft highlighted by Pitcher Mason Peters and outfielder Korbyn Dickerson. Ernest Jones received some votes for being one of the top off ball linebackers in the NFL but did not make the top 10 list // Hall of Fame Pitcher Jim Abbott joins the show to talk about his new E60 documentary “Southpaw” which breaks down the career of Jim Abbot and the struggles that came with his journey to MLB and throwing a no-hitter. Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Tuesday's BBMS to talk O's with The Baltimore Sun's Matt Weyrich. The O's unwillingness to call up Samuel Basallo has drawn the ire of some fans. What will it take to get the team's top prospect up to the Big Leagues? Could Basallo be ready for the O's but the O's aren't ready for him?
In his weekly mailbag podcast, Post-Gazette Pirates insider Noah Hiles answers reader questions. Among them: When can fans expect to see top prospect Konnor Griffin crack the major league roster? Is GM Ben Cherington focused on adding hitting at the trade deadline, and what could a star pitcher like Mitch Keller net them in return? Is it safe to assume Cherington will be back next year considering he's manning this trade deadline for owner Bob Nutting? Is it a certainty Andrew Heaney gets traded considering Johan Oviedo is making his way back from injury and Bubba Chandler and Hunter Barco are waiting in Triple-A? Where is Dauri Moreta? And why has the Pirates defense been so much better since Don Kelly took over as manager from Derek Shelton? Noah answers those questions and more.

The Nats suffered maybe their worst loss of the season on Tuesday night in the series opener at the Mets. Al & Tim recap the 5-4 loss in extra innings, where the Nationals could not hold onto a two-run 8th inning lead. Jose A. Ferrar allowed a pair of runs to tie the game and ultimately Jeff McNeil ended the affair with a RBI single to leadoff the bottom of the 10th.(08:50) MacKenzie Gore struck out six Mets in as many innings of work on 89 pitches. Gore regained the lead for the most strikeouts in all of MLB from Garrett Crochet with 114 during the outing. Gore gave up a HR to Juan Soto and there seemed to be words exchanged between the two players who were once traded for each other.(18:35) The offense showed up early to lead 3-0 entering the middle of the 2nd. CJ Abrams had a big game by doubling twice and connecting on a solo HR to put Washington on top 4-2 in the 5th.(20:00) One of Abrams' double brought in a run, but the moment ended with Jose Tena getting thrown at home. Tena should not have been sent by Ricky Gutierrez with James Wood was waiting on-deck with two outs.(22:45) Andres Chapparo had a pinch -hit double in his 1st Big League at-bat of the season. Tim expresses his frustration though that Chapparo took Nasim Nuñez's roster spot as opposed to Brady House.
Ben & Woods kick off the 7am hour talking more about last night's game and how important it was to get some length out of Dylan Cease, who threw 7 strong innings. Then we pay off "The Incorporator" from Jesse Agler during last night's broadcast before we get to "Don't (And DO) Do This". And at the bottom of the hour, the Tier 1's come through after we asked if any former MLB player was listening and wanted to call in for Big League Wednesday, and we chat with local East County legend Tom Fordham about his short MLB career! Listen here!

The from being a 2 sport star for the Tide to the Big Leagues
The Nats crushed the Mariners 9-0 on Wednesday night on an evening where they hit four homers. Mark (From Seattle) & Al note how the team continued its pattern of the early innings dictating the rest of the way as they hit Back to Back home runs in the top of the 2nd.(06:00) James Wood hit a moonshot for his 15th homer of the season. Wood's OPS is at .949 and is the 5th highest in the NL.(12:10) Robert Hassell III hit his 1st career Big League homer. Hassell had a big evening as he collected a trio of hits in the victory.(14:45) Josh Bell also homered and had three hits in the victory. There is added pressure on Bell as Andres Chaparro has been activated in AAA.(20:30) The embattled Trevor Williams had a great outing as he tossed six scoreless frames on just 76 pitches. It was good timing for Williams as Cade Cavalli pitched well in AAA on Wednesday afternoon.(28:00) MacKenzie Gore will take the mound on Thursday night in the rubber match. Gore leads all of MLB with 93 strikeouts so far this season; one ahead of Detroit's Tarik Skubal.

The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee break down host Clemson's draw in an NCAA baseball regional. Topics include: Clemson's offense gets on base throughout the lineup, with potential MLB first-round center fielder Cam Cannarella providing a dynamic presence in center field, Dominic Listi (.506 OBP) making for the lineup's toughest out, and Jacob Jarrell (15 HR) and Collin Priest (12) providing power. Workhorse right-hander Aidan Knaak and ace relievers Lucas Mahlstedt, Jacob McGovern and Reed Garris giving the Tigers aces on the mound. West Virginia was the Big 12's regular-season champion, but faded late in the season. Outfielder Kyle West (.354/500/.628, 10 HR) led a balanced offense that stole 105 bases. Griffin Kirn, Jack Kartsonas and Reese Bassinger give the Mountaineers a trio of durable, effective pitchers that give WVU a shot to advance. Kentucky played nearly everyone competitively and even took a series at Tennessee. The Wildcats' back-end bullpen troubles prevented a better record, but coach Nick Mingione is one of the best on the business and gets a lot out of a lineup that bunts, runs and puts pressure on defenses. Left fielder Cole Hage is a standout, shortstop Tyler Bell turned down Big League money to come to campus and starred as a freshman this year, and weekend starters Nic McCay's experience and crafty lefty-hander Ben Cleaver make the Wildcats a tough out. South Carolina Upstate is one of the tournament's toughest four-seeds, thanks to an offense that hit .319/.422/.530, with slugger Scott Newman (18 HR) leading the way. Ace Amp Phillips makes the Spartans a threat to pull an upset against one of the three Power 4 teams in the regional.
(00:00) Nick Cattles and Andrew Callahan are in for Zolak and Bertrand, starting the show with a discussion about Marcelo Mayer’s MLB debut and Alex Bregman’s injury. (13:58) We continue by dissecting why the Red Sox won’t play Rafael Devers at third base. (24:03) How did the Celtics lose to this Knicks squad? We break it down. (38:57) The crew partakes in a best cookout snake draft in honor of Memorial Day.
The Nats five game win streak was snapped in Friday night's 4-0 loss to the visiting Giants. Mark & Al focus on MacKenzie Gore's status as he exited in the middle of an at- bat in the top of the 7th. Davey Martinez said afterwards that Gore is fine and it simply was a "Charley Horse" from a comebacker that Gore fielded in the bottom of the 2nd.(07:00) Gore struck out nine Giants to extend his MLB lead to 93Ks on the season. The only run charged to the lefty was the leadoff batter in the top of the 7th, who came across the plate after Gore had left the mound. Gore was much more pitch efficient on Friday night as he was at 83 pitches through six innings of work.(13:35) Daylen Lile singled on the first pitch he saw as he hit 9th and played RF in his MLB debut. Lile was called up from Rochester due Jacob Young being placed on the 10-day IL with a sprained left shoulder. Lile spent April in AA-Harrisburg and immediately made an impact when given the opportunity in AAA.(23:10) The offense could not get anything going as CJ Abrams & James Wood combined for an 0 for 8 effort. Luis Garcia Jr. was the only Nat to collect two hits against San Francisco's Landon Roupp and crew.(25:40) Four relievers were needed and none excelled. Zach Brzykcy allowed a pair of runs in an inning of work and his ERA is up to 11.12 in seven Big League appearances.
For the second time in three days, the Nats rallied late for a comeback win. Mark (From Baltimore) & Al gather after the Nationals 5-4 victory at Camden Yards to open the weekend series. (05:45) James Wood tied the game twice and the first came following a curious decision by Orioles Manager Brandon Hyde to pitch to Wood with a base open in the top of the 6th. Wood went deep in the top of the 8th for his 12th home run of the season. Nathaniel Lowe also homered in the affair in the the top of the 2nd. (08:00) Nasim Nuñez had by far the best game of his Big League career. Nuñez most importantly beat out an infield single for the go-ahead run in the 9th, but also flashed some leather in the outfield of all places. The only reason that Nuñez started was due to a fluky injury on Thursday night by Amed Rosario in his hotel room as he suffered a laceration. (16:00) A bizarre outing for MacKenzie Gore as he recorded nine strikeouts, but gave up ten hits on over 100 pitches in less than four innings of work. Hear Mark explain why this is one of the strangest starts he has ever seen. (22:30) A good night for the bullpen as they teamed up to only allow one run in over five innings of work. Jorge Lopez earned his 6th win of the season, which in a major statistical oddity has him tied for the most wins this season in all of MLB.
In the final hour, Matt Spiegel and Laurence Holmes were joined by KMOX host and former Score host Chris Rongey to reflect on his days hosting the White Sox pregame and postgame shows. In particular, they pondered whether Pope Leo XIV ever listened to his shows. Later, Spiegel and Holmes shared a scouting report on newly promoted Cubs slugger Moises Ballesteros as he's set to make his MLB debut.
