Each episode shares my thoughts as I try to understand myself and the people around me. I took a bunch of social science classes in university and spend a lot of time journaling so I guess I'm qualified to do this sort of thing. My name is Felicia, welcome to my office hours.
Who would you be if no one was watching? In this episode I talk about the power of knowing someone's got their eyes on you. Why it's good (sometimes), why it's bad (sometimes) and how to break free (when needed). Find my zines and stickers at heranthologie.com
This episode features the (not so) funny story of the end of one of my friendships and questions the way we are taught to center romantic love and devalue the platonic connections that so often enrich our lives. Check out my zines and stickers in the Her Anthologie print shop: https://heranthologie.com/
Today's episode is a scream into the void and a reckoning with the reality that sometimes, to live is to suffer. Interested in my zines or stickers? Find them in the Her Anthologie print shop.
Sometimes it feels like all there is to do and think about is work. In Canada, our lives and identities are so tied up in our jobs that I can't help but wonder, "who are you outside of capitalism?" This episode talks about capitalism, intuition and desire. It also pulls on themes from my first zine "Oh to be A Cow Resting in the Green" where I talk about how shitty it feels to be beholden to capitalism and how to imagine a more fulfilling life. P.S. You can watch Sam Jones' "Off Camera" interview with Brit Marling here.
Hello again, I'm back on my bullsh*t. New episodes every Sunday! Today's episode is about surviving girlhood and womanhood while unpacking critique's of boyhood and masculinity. *New's anchor voice* Are men trash? Is "not all men" a problematic phrase? Am I problematic because I "see both sides?" Find out this week on Her Anthologie. Find my zines and stickers at https://heranthologie.com/ Follow me on Instagram @heranthologie
The spirit of social discourse is becoming strained and unproductive. But without civil discourse — there is no civil society. If we can't bridge the gaps of understanding between individuals, the seams of democracy will unravel around us. What we've forgotten is that civil discourse is a reciprocal process. It's not only about being heard, it's also about listening. Living in a diverse society requires us to step outside of our experience and into that of another. To do this, we might employ a philosophical position created by John Rawls called the veil of ignorance (or the original position). It's been 2 years since “2 weeks to flatten the curve” and not much has changed. Except now, governments around the world are out for blood. Look closely and you'll see that the government has created a problem, divided its people, and is now conveniently offering the illusion of a way out through the total erosion of human rights. Despite the indiscriminate lockdowns and increasingly oppressive measures targeting unvaccinated people – COVID cases continue to rise among the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike. We've been running in circles and getting nowhere, but the government seems committed to bullying citizens into compliance. And since people are scared, tired and ready to get back to real life – they're giving in, and giving up their freedoms in the process. This will begin a series of podcasts discussing the COVID-19 pandemic from a sociolegal perspective. NOTE: Some audio clips have been edited down for brevity, but still maintain the spirit of the original audio. Visit my blog The Anthology, at feliciafalconer.com to read this piece and more. Living alone together describes the state of living within a community of people who are bonded more by their geographic proximity, rather than their social ties. It's the feeling of recognizing your neighbours, but not really knowing who they are. It's the curious sense of feeling lonely in a crowded room. It's feeling alone – together. This podcast explores feelings of isolation in modern society and how they may stem from a combination of cultural and personal sources. Who we are is, in many ways, inseparable from the cultural context within which we exist, however, we possess the agency to make choices that deviate from cultural norms. This piece explores the interplay of structure vs. agency as it relates to the social mechanisms that paradoxically create both chaos and order in our lives. This piece is not driven by heavy research, but is instead a more casual opinion piece influenced by own unique perspective.
Today we're talking about the rise of thrifting & the myth of scarcity. Are thrift stores raising their prices because they no longer have enough clothes? Are our clothes even going to local people in need like we think they are? Short answer, no. Long answer is in the podcast.
Today on The Anthology (yes, I changed the name of the podcast) we'll be having our 2nd installment of "Conscious Conversations" where we'll discuss identity politics and how this tool for justice also has the effect of perpetuating racist ideas and attitudes in society.
Today we're talking about a subsection of shadow w called inner child work. This is all about connected with your inner child by recognizing and healing past childhood trauma through the process of basically reparenting yourself. We can't change the past but since we're no longer helpless children, we can create a better future. Visit: https://www.feliciafalconer.com/ for yoga classes or to read The Anthology
This is a new series within the podcast called Conscious Conversations where I'll be discussing various sociopolitical issues. I'll be attempting to normalize viewing people as people instead of political abstractions, forming nuanced opinions that appreciate the complex nature of our society and most important the free expression of thoughts and ideas despite the potential for misunderstanding or disagreement. Today I'm talking about breathwork, it's something I practice everyday throughout the day but I also wanted to share a few of the more "intense" breathwork practices I've tried like The Wim Hof Method. To read more, find the Breathwork in The Studio: https://www.feliciafalconer.com/mind/2021-03/breathwork
Today I'm talking about what shadow work is and sharing some of my experience navigating through my own shadow. You can ready more here: https://www.feliciafalconer.com/mind/what-is-shadow-work
This is a quick sound bath. Sit back and breathe it in. I'm playing my singing bowl tuned to the note of E for the solar plexus chakra.
A short meditation focused on being grateful for all the ordinary shit in life. When things become regular sometimes we take them for granted which is okay, but sometimes it's nice to be reminded of some of the good things in life and just feel some gratitude for them.
If you've been taught that you should be trying to quiet your mind in meditation learn a new way to think about building a meditation practice. Instead of trying to control the mind, just allow yourself to be.
Learn the basics of the energy body & how the chakras fit into it. There's a bit more information in The Studio if you're interested (including the names of each chakra, what they're responsible for & what causes blocks in each one). Find the class "The Energy Body & The Chakras" at feliciafalconer.com
This episode is all about self validation & living your truth instead of following the plan that other people have set out for you.
I knew I had a problem when I realized I couldn't watch TV without making a to do list so this podcast is all about how I'm unpacking my attachment to productivity and learning to chill tf out.
This podcast is about taking time for self discovery and really getting to know yourself outside of who society tells you you should be. Do you even know who you are without someone whispering in your ear? Have you taken the time to be honest about what you want out of life and what the fuck your identity is? And more importantly, can you be brave enough to live your truth?
Today is an intro to the new podcast and I share my personal experience with anxiety in the best way I know how then unpack what it all means and how I used yoga to get through it instead of being crushed under the weight of it.
Today's episode is about my next step in trying to live more mindfully... creating content more intentionally.
I've been really trying to deepen my roots in wellness & slow living to ensure I go on to become a happier, healthier bitch. Recently an experience in a parking lot gave me perspective into just how important a strong community can be in any attempt to shift your lifestyle/habits... This is that story.
I definitely do my best to be more sustainable but there are a few reasons why I don't see myself ever being zero waste and why similar movements make me nervous.
As I try to train my mind to accept that things simply are as they are & sometimes it's unhelpful to immediately label a situation as "good" or "bad" I ramble on about my (lack of) progress and what I've learned from another podcast called Secular Buddhism (no, I'm not a Buddhist). Also my online thrift store launches today, if you're interested in taking a look head to: https://www.feliciafalconer.com/apparel
This episode is exactly what it sounds like, it's just me talking... a 30 minute stream of consciousness about self awareness, fears about getting older, the binary of good/bad etc. I hope you enjoy.
Today's episode is about following your heart and other cheesy shit like that. I feel like I'm going through a spiritual awakening of sorts & after reading The Bhagavad Gita this is one of my main takeaways. I'm not an expert on anything, I'm just a 20 something year old trying to figure my life out and I'm slowly accepting that happiness is probably worth more than any other measure of success.
Today I'm talking with my sister Melissa about growing up black in Canada. We cover things from personal dilemmas to social issues – I wish we had more time but in an hour we share our perspectives on a wide range of race based topics. Listen with an open mind and remember that this is simply our perspective, not "the black" perspective because (as we discuss) not all black people are the same. Find Melissa here: @melissafalconer mfalconer.com
This episode is about finding positivity in a negative world and reminding myself how lucky I am to be alive and just how grateful I am to have been given the chance to wake up and give life a try, again & again & again.
In this podcast recorded in a sleep deprived state at 3 am I talk about how I've been forcing myself to do less (which has actually helped me get a lot more shit done)
I want to make it clear that: disagreement is not racism or hateful. I've had a lot to say about this on Instagram recently and thought I'd share my thoughts on the podcast about nuanced opinions, free thinking & just some other random little life updates to bring you into my world a bit.
I was asked how I stay motivated to eat healthy, meditate & stay committed to wellness. Secret is, I'm not motivated to do any of it. Well, I was.... but just long enough to build the habit. Then I started running on autopilot, just like we all do everyday without even noticing.
Activism is becoming an extreme sport & the prize is asserting your superiority over others. Within the 'activist' space online so many people expect perfection from others but are quick to ask for understanding & patience when they're the ones who fuck up. Let's talk about that.
As much as I find myself saying that I don't give a fuck what others think about me, the truth is I have several fucks to give at all times. This episode is about unpacking this unfortunate character flaw and learning how to move past it.
"Just be yourself!" they say, and then you realize you have no idea who the fuck that is.
Today's all about self- care beyond the rituals of bubble baths & wine glasses. This is how I make sure I feel good even after the the bath gets cold aka how I've made self-care a lifestyle instead of something I do once a week.
This is all about the lessons I've learned from past relationships. Hindsight truly is 20/20 when it comes to these things and (once I got over the anger & sadness) looking back there's so much I've learned. I'm almost grateful for it.
I used to think of meditation as just sitting there and doing nothing but now that I've been practicing I can appreciate how much goes into it. Sitting still, paying attention and being fully present/aware is truly an art. In this episode I try to demystify meditation, I talk about what's "supposed" to happen, what actually happens and what I've learned after 7 months of taking the time to just sit still.
Hi my name is Felicia (hi Felicia) .... and I have trouble saying no. In this episode I try to work through what that says about me and how I want to stop having this problem.
Have you ever had one of those moments of pause when life seems to slow down just enough for you to realize what's really important to you, who you value and how you truly want to spend your life? Today I reflect on those times when life has stopped for me and what I regret NOT doing after they were over.
Today's episode is about people who claim to be tolerant human rights advocates who are really using social justice as an excuse to bully people or to be unnecessarily hateful towards groups that they know they won’t be called out for offending.
Today's episode is about how to cope with "Imposter Syndrome" and feeling like you're faking your way through life. And if you do feel that way, know that you're not alone — we're all doing it.
Today's episode is all about food and trying to motivate myself to eat healthy despite loving takeout. This isn't about weight loss or about looking a certain way — it's about eating good to feel good and how the 80/20 rule kinda feels like a set up. *Disclaimer: I'm not a nutritionist or dietitian and do not provide recommendations for specific diets or any medical advice in this podcast.
Today’s episode is about how you’re ruining your life with social media but how social media might not be the problem. I think we all have a lot more power than we think and should give ourselves a bit more credit. I don’t want you to think of this as “victim blaming” but instead think of it as empowering. Remember that you control social media and not the other way around.
Today's episode is about political correctness, identity politics & my issues with people getting offended over everything. Go to http://feliciafalconer.com/thoughts to share your thoughts on today's episode.
