What if the thing you're calling “chaos,” “overwhelm,” or “not enough time” is actually a sign that your life is running on someone else's definition of success? In today's episode, I'm joined by New York Times bestselling author and Slow Living advocate Stephanie O'Dea for a conversation that will make you rethink how you work, plan, parent, and build your business, especially if you've been craving a calmer pace but don't know where to start. Stephanie shares how a single New Year's resolution turned into 11 books, a massive online brand, and a completely different way of designing life, one rooted in intention, capacity, and tuning out the noise. We talk about redefining productivity, creating a three-year plan that actually feels doable, why journaling changes everything (even if you hate journaling), and how to build a business without burning out your brain, body, or joy. If you're heading into a new season wanting more peace, more purpose, and less rushing, this episode is your reminder that slow isn't stagnant, it's sustainable. And it may be the very thing that moves you forward the fastest. Today you'll hear:01:48 – The truth about holiday overwhelm and why acknowledging “this is too much” is the first step toward slowing down04:48 – How a crockpot, a New Year's resolution, and consistency built an accidental empire (plus what she learned about working in her true capacity)07:54 – The power of finding your pockets of time, why hustle seasons are personal, and what slow living actually looks like in different life stages09:58 – The S.L.O.W. acronym12:13 – Why Stephanie walked away from Instant Pot culture, what happened when her publisher dropped her, and the voice of intuition that redirected her business14:48 – Real-life slow living examples16:08 – How to begin slow living when your life feels too full17:48 – Why she swears by a 3-year plan (and why 1-year and 5-year goals often fail humans in real life)19:40 – The “sleep, creep, leap” model and how to use it for business, health, relationships, finances, and long-term life design21:08 – The one small daily shift to start today23:00 – Stephanie's most-requested crockpot recipe (and why her kids still make it in college)25:00 – How thinking three years ahead creates stability, peace, margin, and resilience — even when life gets unpredictable CONNECT WITH STEPHANIE:Website: stephanieodea.comInstagram: @stephanieodeaFREE daily journaling and goal setting worksheet: stephanieodea.com/daily

In this episode of Architecture Business Club, hosted by Jon Clayton, productivity mentor Louise Miller joins to discuss a new definition of productivity that focuses on doing what's important rather than doing more in less time. Key topics include the importance of creating space over relying on systems, how productivity begins before taking action, and why recognising capacity can prevent burnout. The episode also explores practical strategies like taking a pause to reassess goals and the benefits of changing environments. Louise's insights are aimed at helping business owners achieve more with a sense of fulfilment and well-being.Today's GuestLouise Miller is a productivity mentor, the founder of Make It Happen Club and host of the Unfrazzle podcast. She's on a mission to change the world by helping her clients change the world. She partners with coaches, consultants and community-builders who have a big, exciting vision, helping them land their ideas in reality, reach more people and make a bigger impact, whilst being kind to themselves along the way.—Episode Highlights00:00 Introduction to Productivity00:42 Meet Louise Miller01:30 Challenging Traditional Productivity02:26 The Importance of Doing What's Important03:21 The Busy Trap04:34 Productivity Before Action04:45 The Treehouse Analogy09:32 The Progress Cycle10:56 Space vs. Systems11:47 The Chaos of Systems14:23 The Emotional Weight of Productivity15:52 The Vicious Cycle of To-Do Lists17:04 Six Pillars of Productivity17:44 The Life-Friendly Approach19:01 The Rhythm of Productivity19:30 The Neuroscience of Productivity22:50 The Real Reasons for Not Getting Things Done25:23 The Power of the Treehouse29:49 Final Thoughts and Resources—Key TakeawaysPrioritise Space and Reflection Over Constant ActionTrue productivity is not about relentless activity or doing more in less time, but about creating space to pause, reflect, and make intentional choices. Taking time to step back. Louise's “treehouse” analogy allows for clarity, better decision-making, and prevents the cycle of busywork and burnout.Focus on What's Important, Not Just What's UrgentProductivity isn't simply ticking off tasks. Instead, it's about identifying and working on what truly matters, rather than being caught up in the “busy trap”. This means aligning your actions with your values and long-term goals, and letting go of tasks that do not serve your bigger purpose.Systems Are Secondary to Self-Awareness and CapacityWhile productivity systems and tools can be helpful, they are not a cure-all. If you're overwhelmed or unclear, new systems will only organise your chaos. The real key is self-awareness: understanding your own needs, capacity, and life context, and building a rhythm of regular reflection. Productivity is personal. Experiment to find what works for you, and don't feel broken if someone else's method doesn't fit.—Connect with Louise Miller on LinkedIn

The Daily Boost | Coaching You Need. Success You Deserve.

Get More Done Scripting Your Life Date: October 15, 2025 | Episode: 5204 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description What if the boring, scripted life you've been avoiding is exactly what gives you freedom? Scott tackles the biggest lie we tell ourselves - that structure kills spontaneity. Spoiler: it's the opposite. From planning spontaneous Saturdays with his wife to stacking back-to-back calls at 6:45 AM, he reveals why the most exciting lives are built on predictable routines. You're already a goal-seeking machine. Time to use it right. Featured Story Scott's wife isn't spontaneous. At all. If he wants a fun Saturday, he has to announce it in advance. "Honey, we're having a spontaneous Saturday." She needs to plan for it. It sounds wacky. He fights it every step of the way. But here's the thing - she's onto something. Her scripted approach means less stress and more control. Scott learned this the hard way after years of resisting structure. Now? He knows his Monday schedule two weeks out. When the dermatologist asks what time works, his answer is simple: "Anything. I know my Monday." Important Points Your eyes are goal-seeking machines that naturally take you wherever you point your attention, which is why billion-dollar companies fight for your focus every single day. Structure doesn't kill freedom - it creates it. The minute you script your life is the minute you control it instead of letting everyone else control it for you. Process beats outcome goals every time. Focusing on daily habits and systems keeps you moving forward even when the big goal feels impossible or hits a plateau. Memorable Quotes "The minute you get some structure in your life is the minute you get all the freedom you want." "You are a goal setting machine. Whatever direction you point your attention is where you're going to go." "When I do it for myself, for what I want to do, I'll stick to it all day long." Scott's Three-Step Approach Script your day in advance. Know what you're doing and when you're doing it so you can actually control your time instead of reacting to everyone else's agenda. Focus on the process, not just the end goal. Get excited about the daily habits that move you forward rather than obsessing over the finish line that's still months away. Be flexible on your terms. Structure doesn't mean rigid - it means you know what you're doing well enough to adjust when life happens without losing control completely. Take Command of Your Day with the Daily Domination BoardGear up for the new year The fastest path to real high performance isn't a new app or a 4 a.m. alarm—it's a cleaner day. We walk through a lightweight Daily Domination workflow that gets tasks out of your head, into a simple Trello board, and moving from To-Do to Done without drama. No complex frameworks, no calendar chaos—just a clear loop you can trust: dump, sequence, execute, reflect, and bucketize. We start by capturing everything—client work, admin, errands, and even the tiny tasks that clog your attention. Then we show how to order your day for leverage, move one card at a time into Doing, and use the Done column to build visible momentum. The heart of the conversation is reflection: measuring your say–do ratio with honesty, finding the tasks that stall, and deciding whether to split them, schedule them, or delete them. You'll hear how to protect evenings if planning triggers late-night work, and why consistency beats sophistication every time. From there, we dig into bucketizing with labels—Work, Chores, Family, Fitness, or custom categories like Client Delivery, Pipeline, and Broadcasting. Color coding makes patterns obvious so you can steer your time toward what actually matters. You'll learn how to evolve labels on the fly, personalize the system to your world, and use weekly reviews to course-correct without beating yourself up. Along the way, we share community wins, practical caveats, and the small habits that keep the board useful when life gets loud.Ready to trade overwhelm for clarity? Grab the Daily Domination template, try a single day of the loop, and tell us what changed. If this helped, subscribe, share it with a friend who drowns in to-dos, and leave a quick review so more pros can find their flow.Download a PDF copy of Becoming the Promise You are Intended to Behttps://www.depthbuilder.com/books

Do you open 10 tabs and forget what you were doing? You're not alone. Our brains have been conditioned to crave distraction—thanks to tech, stress, and overstimulation. Focus isn't just about productivity—it's about presence, creativity, and living a life that feels like yours. In this episode, I explain how chronic stress and dopamine addiction are training your brain to self-interrupt, making it harder than ever to stay on task. Drawing on insights from researchers like Dr. Gloria Mark, I break down how habits like doomscrolling and multitasking are literally rewiring our prefrontal cortexes. But it's not all doom and distraction. I share powerful, research-based strategies to rebuild your focus muscle—from daily breathing hacks and body doubling to my personal “rule of three” method and compassionate productivity practices. You'll also hear how I use unstructured rest, deliberate boredom, and digital boundaries to reconnect with what matters most. If you've ever felt like your brain is broken, this episode will help you reconnect with the calm, focused version of you that still exists—just beneath the noise. We get into: Why focus is the hidden key to creating a meaningful, joyful life. How stress hijacks your brain and kills concentration. Science-backed focus hacks that actually work—no guilt, just relief. Daily habits to rewire your brain away from distraction and back to clarity. Why social media mimics slot machines—and how to break free. Develpreneur: Become a Better Developer and Entrepreneur

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 19, 2025 26:23

In this episode of Building Better Developers with AI, hosts Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche revisit another one of their popular topics: developer performance. Originally explored in the episode “Supercharge Your Focus and Productivity – Expert Tips for Success,” the discussion now receives an AI-powered refresh, bringing new insights into how developers can enhance their output, sustain energy, and prevent burnout. Why Developer Performance Is Harder Than Ever Distractions have only increased since the original discussion. Slack messages, meetings, and endless browser tabs compete for attention. As Rob points out, context switching drains productivity, and remote work piles on additional interruptions. The bottom line? Sustained developer performance is more challenging than ever, and it requires intentional strategies to conserve time and energy. Developer Performance Habits That Work The hosts highlight proven methods that still deliver results today: The Pomodoro Remix – Rob adapts Pomodoro into 45-minute deep work sprints paired with Brain FM playlists. The payoff: completing tasks in nearly half the time. Digital Fences – Blocking out email, Slack, and app notifications creates essential uninterrupted focus. Energy Mapping – Michael emphasizes tracking your natural highs and lows throughout the day to tackle demanding tasks when your brain is sharpest. Developer performance isn't about working longer—it's about aligning your work with your natural rhythms. Developer Performance Hacks You Haven't Tried Yet AI introduced new tactics that extend beyond the original discussion: Single-Tab Coding – Limit yourself to one task, one tab, and one flow to reduce distractions. Micro-Deadlines – Break big projects into smaller deliverables to keep momentum steady. Code Music Playlists – Experiment with playlists or white noise to match your coding flow. Michael even points out Mac's built-in background sounds as a quick win for blocking noise without extra tools. Protecting Developer Performance From Burnout Performance isn't sustainable without recovery. Rob emphasizes the 90% rule: always leave some energy in the tank for tomorrow. He also recommends using breaks for side projects, reading, or exercise to recharge. Michael adds that mindset plays a critical role. Starting the day with negative news or stressful emails can quickly drain your energy. Instead, begin with positive routines, check your mental state regularly, and unplug from devices at night. Protecting your energy is the ultimate developer performance hack. Burnout prevention keeps you sharp long-term. Final Takeaway: Developer Performance Is a Rhythm Revisiting Supercharge Your Focus and Productivity proves that while tools and technology evolve, the fundamentals of performance remain the same. Rob and Michael remind us that developer performance isn't about squeezing out more hours—it's about adopting smarter habits, practicing intentional rest, and maintaining sustainable rhythms. By experimenting with Pomodoro sprints, energy mapping, and digital fences, you can achieve more while protecting your well-being. Challenge for You Pick one developer performance hack this week—whether it's micro-deadlines, single-tab coding, or extended Pomodoro sprints—and track how it impacts your output. Minor adjustments often yield the most significant results. Stay Connected: Join the Developreneur Community We invite you to join our community and share your coding journey with us. Do you ever find it hard to have enough energy to get you through your day? When you're a homestead mom, the home is a busy place. There's a lot to get done, and it can be hard to get it  all done when you are dragging in the morning, having a mid-morning crashes, or afternoon slumps. I know when I lack energy, it takes a huge hit to my productivity. Maybe you find yourself slogging through your day with the kids, one cup of coffee at a time? Meanwhile, you keep checking the clock to see if your husband will be home soon so you can just get a little break. Oh boy, if that isn't a relatable picture for me, I don't know what else is. With 3 little kids, a husband that works long hours, and a lot of demands placed on me, I need to keep my energy up to hold things together at home. That can be easier said than done, but I want to share 5 ways that I work to improve my energy so I can get more done during the day, and not only that, enjoy the day-to-day workload of a busy homestead mom. I pray that God would use this episode to pull you out of a slump and find ways to give you the energy you need to parent well, take care of your home, and for your homestead to thrive. I know that is no easy task, but it is a doable one, and I hope you find some of my personal experiences helpful for you too.
