People love to say "everything in moderation" as a way to include all foods but I'm not sure it's the supportive guidance you think it is. While I'm not about restriction, I think there are more helpful ways to think about nutrition that actually make meal planning and choosing foods that fuel your body easier. There are also ways to eat ALL the foods you love but in varied amounts to make sure your body feels your best and you can reach your goals. In this episode, I give you better nutrition advice!Join the FREE Fit Fuel Nutrition Challenge that starts Monday February 24!Your Strongest Body! Fat Loss Simplified: tips for weight loss, workouts, nutrition, fitness, and a balanced life
Eating in moderation sounds like the perfect, balanced approach for fat loss—unless it doesn't work. While it's often seen as the golden rule of healthy eating, it only works if certain conditions are met. In this episode, I break down when moderation works, when it doesn't, and the two essential questions you need to ask yourself before making it your go-to strategy. If you've ever wondered why eating in moderation feels effortless for some people and frustrating for others, this episode is for you. What You'll Learn in This Episode: The real definition of moderation (and why it's different for everyone) Why eating “in moderation” works for some but not for others The role of metabolic flexibility in making moderation effective How to build your ability to eat in moderation while still seeing results Key Takeaways: Moderation only works when you have the awareness of what's in your food and what your body needs. If you struggle with weight gain when trying to eat intuitively, your metabolism might need some revitalization work. Muscle is the key to increasing metabolic flexibility, allowing you to eat more while still burning fat. The goal isn't to track forever—it's to build the awareness and habits that make moderation effortless. Eating in moderation can be the ultimate goal, but it may not align with where you are right now. By improving awareness, building muscle, and strengthening metabolic flexibility, you can get to a place where you never have to track another macro or count another calorie again. Is “everything in moderation” the holy grail of health—or just another dietary myth that's leading us astray? In this fiery sermon on Blasphemous Nutrition, Aimee pulls back the curtain on this so-called sacred advice, challenging its vague, one-size-fits-all gospel with her signature sass and unholy candor.Aimee lays bare how modern food systems, misleading health guidelines, and the cult of convenience have turned “moderation” into a false idol, exposing how the ambiguity around moderation leaves us wandering in the wilderness of confusion, craving direction and balance. But salvation is at hand! The real path to dietary enlightenment is one that starts with listening to your body's wisdom and ends with using tools like lab tests and personal health goals to discover your true north. Along the way, Aimee critiques the food industry and vague government policies, but celebrates Canada's low-risk alcohol guidelines as a rare beacon of nuanced advice that can be transferred as a starting point for other consumables that need guardrails. Tune in for the unvarnished real talk and take the first step toward writing your own gospel of health. Hallelujah!Key Takeaways:The phrase "Everything in moderation" is often misinterpreted due to its ambiguous nature and lack of a clear definition. The Canadian guidelines for alcohol consumption offer a nuanced perspective, highlighting a continuum of risk rather than fixed limits. For significant health improvements, it's essential to critically evaluate dietary advice and find what is sustainable and effective for you.Personalized health strategies, informed by both internal cues and external data, are necessary to manage or prevent disease effectively.Resources:Canadian Guidance on Alcohol and HealthFind Research Citations and Transcript at Blasphemous Nutrition on SubstackWork with AimeePhotography by: Dai Ross PhotographyPodcast Cover Art: Lilly Kate CreativeCHAT ME UP: let me know what's on your mind by texting here! Hello, hello! This is a free preview of a bonus episode. You can hear the FULL episode right here when you subscribe and support the show on Patreon. This week, we're going deep on emotional eating and whether "everything in moderation" is the healthiest approach to food. Here are the questions from our Patrons: Moderation: Hi, Abbie. As someone who has been trying to heal from diet culture, I've heard a lot about the concept of moderation. Can you explain whether practicing moderation with food can actually be helpful or if it might still perpetuate some of the restrictive and harmful aspects of dieting? Really curious to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks so much for all you do. Jen Emotional Eating: Hey there, Abbie, I have identified as an emotional eater pretty much all of my life. I've obviously heard that emotional eating is a bad habit and something that I need to fix, something that's wrong with me, and something that requires more willpower. But lately I've been wondering if it's really that simple. I've been starting to see my emotional eating in a different light. But I'm obviously still struggling with the experience because of how long it's been demonized. Could you explain your views on emotional eating? Can you talk about whether or not it's harmful, and is it something that I need to address? And how does restricting food contribute to feeling like an emotional eater? I've started realizing the two might be connected. Thanks so much, Alex. To listen to the FULL episode, make sure to join Patreon right here. It might appear that the teacher in this section is calling people to pursue a life of moderation. One where we try to walk a balance of being perceived as either a “sinner” or a “saint.” Instead, the warning here is that there are two dangers we can fall into in life, living a life of destructive licentiousness or a life of self-righteous legalism. In truth no amount of sin will satisfy us and no amount of “saintly” behaviour is able to save us from death only the righteousness of Jesus is able to save us.
We set out to explore the middle ground between N/A and the big, boozy imperials and extra-hopped beers that helped make American craft beer famous, and figure out if it offered any clues as to where non-alcoholic beer could be headed. While IPAs and the like aren't going anywhere, in the traditional brewing world there's undoubtedly been a movement toward lower gravity lagers, pilsners, English ales and related styles that dare to come in at 5% ABV or lower, at least inching a bit closer to their under .5% counterparts. We start our episode sitting down with the creator of Duluth, Georgia's Little Beer Festival, having recently celebrated its 4th iteration this month. Todd DiMatteo is also the owner/brewer of Good Word Brewing & Public House, which itself focuses on these low gravity styles. Similar to a few other festivals that have popped up in recent years to focus on lighter brews, Little Beer offers festival-goers the opportunity to sample hordes of beers that won't knock you over with alcohol, which may go against some perceptions of a beer festival. At the event we also talk with brewers and experts from Lupulin Brewing, Wren House Brewing, and The Whale Craft Beer Collective. All shared their own perspectives of non-alcoholic beer, where and how it's going for them, and whether there may be an intersection of these movements within an overall trend toward moderation in craft beer consumption.

This episode contains: All three amazing hosts lead the charge into the New Year, but have a few things to get off their collective chests first. Devon's got a wild child on his hands, and details some holiday destruction. Ben has had enough with his hair, and took matters into his own hands. Steven got a chance to let his true Disney self out, and finally played Lorcana (with Ben). He also finished a video game, which hasn't happened in a long time. Who wants a cart racer that's Disney themed? Ben and Steven do. Let's Talk About the Public Domain: Mickey, Disney, and the Public Domain: a 95-year Love Triangle. What's going in here? It's complicated. Disney pushed for the law that extended the copyright term to 95 years, which became referred to derisively as the “Mickey Mouse Protection Act.” This extension has been criticized by scholars as being economically regressive and having a devastating effect on our ability to digitize, archive, and gain access to our cultural heritage. https://web.law.duke.edu/cspd/mickey/ Science Fiction: We do some movie reviews to round out the year. Ben and his kid watched 1984's Gremlins. Devon watched Leave The World Behind, and tries to do a spoiler free review. Devon also finally watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which goes about as expected. Today I'm going to share why eating in moderation is bad diet advice. This idea involves avoiding extremes and consuming a balanced diet with reasonable amounts of various foods. However, some of the foods you are allowed to consume, even in moderation, can destroy your health. Why eating everything in moderation doesn't work for weight loss or creating a healthy body: 1. The carbs aren't low enough (moderation is subjective) 2. Many people have insulin resistance 3. It doesn't consider genetics 4. It includes addictive foods 5. It includes refined foods 6. Eating stimulates insulin The best way to burn fat and create a healthy body is to consume 50 grams or less of carbs per day. Doing this will also eliminate hunger and cravings, making it easier to stay on track with a diet plan. The Healthy Keto® diet is a low-carb diet plan that focuses on nutritious, quality ingredients and getting healthy to lose weight. Learn more about the ketogenic diet in my other videos.
In this week's episode, hosts Ryan O'Leary and Nick Wojton discuss the Bills' impressive bounce-back victory over the Raiders, highlighting Josh Allen's precision and the team's dominant defense. The podcast also previews the upcoming Week 3 matchup against the Washington Commanders, analyzing key stats and trends. Subscribe to stay updated all season long!

In this episode I talk about how “Everything in moderation is OK” is actually terrible advice. Sure, there's some foods that aren't great for you that you can enjoy occasionally without destroying your health. But there's a range of foods and chemicals that you should NEVER ingest if you can help it!
Everything in moderation is truly a powerful thing for you to do, acknowledge and balance in your life, business, in your job, with your children, relationships and much more. Being able to really, honestly, look at everything including sleep, eating habits, exercise, getting out of the house, business hours and much more will be a liberating and powerful exercise for you to do, in order to mix things up, change things and see what aligns. You can't work 72 hours with no sleep, break, sit down, something to eat or drink! It's not going to be viable. Grab a notebook and pen and enjoy this exercise on this podcast. Practicing moderation, brahmacharya, helps us to lead a balanced and harmonious life. In this episode we take a look at the 4th Yama (moral restraint) and how excess shows up in our life.
Content moderation on social media platforms has been a hot topic since 2016. Social media platforms struggle to balance respect for free speech with the need to create a compelling social space that minimizes toxicity and misinformation. The complexity of content moderation is partly driven by user demand and political pressure, but ultimately by the social media platform's need to ensure that users keep logging in. This session will discuss how businesses are navigating the complex constitutional questions relating to state rights, free speech, the role of politics in business, and the influence of a small group of billionaires in making these decisions. Lastly, we will briefly discuss Kanye West known now as Ye, just to spice things up. ►Support The Podcast: https://www.gofundme.com/f/94e2c-podcast-support ►Contact Us:

I'm hearing a lot of health and fitness people on social media say things like “you shouldn't remove an entire food group from your diet” or “low carb/keto is way too restrictive”. I get it, I used to say the same things. But when it comes to “food freedom”, sometimes you need to trade through in for “health freedom”. Let's dive into this together! This is one of the most popular phrases in our society today but, do we really live by it? It is actually one of the healthiest ways to live (with a few exceptions of course) but one of the most difficult things to do--live in the middle. As a fitness facility, nutrition is often at the forefront of what we discuss and what we do. It's common to hear the phrase, "everything in moderation" when discussing nutrition. However, most people don't actually understand what moderation looks like. If we actually broke down the volume or macros of what they were consuming, it's a much larger portion of their total calories/intake. We might think a Starbucks drink and a cookie is moderation, not realizing we just consumed nearly 1000 calories. Usually when people are using the phrase everything in moderation, its used as a justification for eating unhealthy foods more than they should. (fried foods, fast food, sweets, alcohol, chips, soda, etc) Most people don't have a strong enough foundation of eating real food, and therefore aren't actually eating unhealthy “in moderation”. That's why we believe it's important to strengthen your baseline first. In this episode of the FitTown Show, we discuss the pros and cons of “everything in moderation”, how to calibrate this phrase to serve you, not limit you, and what you need to know in order to effectively apply this advice.
This show was inspired by me hearing that throwaway line, “Everything in Moderation,” one too many times—particularly as it relates to our critical mission and obligation to fight a valiant battle against the many health-destructive cultural and marketing forces that we face in modern life. Yes, I was hanging out with a group of childhood friends, talking up the nuances of my Carnivore Scores food rankings chart, and received the feedback that it's indeed extreme for the average citizen to go looking for grass-fed liver or take organ supplements made with freeze-dried bovine testicle and so forth. Point accepted, but I think we have an unfortunate reflex to regress to the pathetic mean of today's unhealthy, overstressed, overfat (Dr. Phil Maffetone contends 91% of the global population “overeat”) population. Everything in moderation is a good suggestion to avoid the extremes that some of us devoted health and fitness enthusiasts can traffic in, but it's important to emphasize that we are absolutely and desperately obligated to pursue an extreme approach to health because we have the deck stacked against us. I'll talk plenty about how industrial seed oils are pervasive in the food supply, including (shocker) the most elite and expensive restaurants and the hallowed halls of Whole Foods Market and hot buffet. This show examines both sides of the coin—being thoughtful and resolute to avoid overstress patterns as well as upping our game a bit, or a lot, to clean up our adverse dietary and lifestyle practices. I admit that I repeatedly err on the overstress side of the equation, as evidenced by recurring muscle soreness and minor injuries in the aftermath of my high intensity sprinting and jumping sessions. My interview with Jay Feldman, host of Energy Balance podcast, and my four-part presentation of reflections on the Energy Balance concept (coming soon), caused me to reflect on the potential for trouble when stacking an assortment of stress factors, most particularly combining fasting and/or carb restriction with high intensity workouts. We talk through some practical suggestions to improve dietary choices, how to optimize return on investment with workouts (reference my show with Dr. Doug McGuff) and avoid the endocrine disruptors in cosmetics, skin care, food containers, and household cleaners (listen to my show with Melanie Avalon here to hear more about that). You don't have to break your back and add stress to your life in trying to be perfect or go to the potentially overly-stressful edges of biohacking or extreme athletic training, but let's resolve to do the best we can to break free from the many unhealthy aspects of modern life (particularly the dopamine-stimulating instant gratification addictions that were detailed in my interviews with Dr. Robert Lustig and Dr. Anna Lembke) and strive to live a life of happiness, contentment, energy and vitality. Sugar. It's a huge buzzword in the nutrition AND parenting world... and I think most of us know, too much of anything isn't a good think (it's all about balance!). But added sugar is seemingly everywhere- and it's affecting our kids. So how do we reduce the added sugar, without restricting our kids from the delicious foods they (and we all) love? In today's episode, I'm talking with professor of pediatrics and researcher (and dad!) Dr. Michael Goran and dietitian and mom Dr. Emily Ventura on how to identify sneaky sugar and help our kids reduce sugar consumption in a realistic, non-restrictive way. We talk about: How sugar is affecting our kids (it's not just about weight) How to tell if sugar is affecting OUR kidsHow we can avoid the effects of sugar, while still enjoying delicious food How we can teach kids about added sugar, without creating fearHow to bring balance into it- it's not about taking all sugar away Full show notes including links mentioned:http://www.healthymamakris.com/episode-274Connect with Michael and Emily online:WebsiteInstagramConnect with Kris:WebsiteInstagramCooking ClassesJoin the Healthy Balanced Mamas Facebook Community

In this time of political rancor and binary opposition, the only way out of fanaticism is for each of us to make a herculean effort toward finding common ground.
