Chances are you went to school, or work with a guy JUST LIKE Stephen Hunter, HELL, you might even be just like him... He and Heather met back at acting school when he was a scruffy haired ginger fellow who just loved to make people laugh. He was always written off by others as the guy who was "dabbling" in acting and probably wound't "make it". Then he got a role in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, and oh how did it change his tune & peoples opinions. But at his core, he is still that fun loving ginger fellow who likes to make people laugh. What you don't know is, how many times he considered giving up. The level of work he puts in to make it look "easy" and "fun". Plus he really opens up about trying to work while grieving. Something we are all in this world, very familiar with. In his family home, Shunter welcomes in Heather with a coffee and a lemonade to discuss: The pain of losing the ones you love. How he had to try grieve two things at once. Staying grounded, when you’re killing it. As we get older, having to say goodbye. Accepting the good with the bad. Making sure you protect the one’s you leave behind. This episode is proudly sponsored by the gents at Body Armour, the smart drink from Australia, that has been tried and tested by experts.
Being pretty, and the curse of the pretty woman in life is not something we are allowed to admit as a species. If you are considered beautiful. You are to be quiet and not let anyone know you are aware of it. You will be treated totally different and apparently it's only in a positive way. BUT IT"S NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL! This week Heather heads out to the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney Australia to meet with a woman who's beauty literally got her paid. She's is a world class supermodel, even though she would be too humble to admit it, and also a strong feminist writer. Tanja migrated to this country as a young girl and was always treated differently. If it wasn't for her accent or cultural background. It was for her beauty. This weeks chat is a wonderful insight into the world of "crippling beauty" and how painful it can actually be. Bet you want to judge for that? Just wait... Prepare yourself, you are about to learn a different side to the world: How girls fart in public- being real. Effects of botox... The fear of being a feminist. How to survive a superficial industry. We are taking the “thin” veil off the fashion industry. How often you put your light out for another woman. Not owning your beauty because you’re not allowed, and can’t say you feel like shit cause you’re TOO pretty. The dangers for young women modelling. Someone once told her “you have big peasant hands”. Growing up in Australia when you’re from another country. Proudly sponsored by Body Armour, The Smart Drink here in Australia.
In the wild wild west of podcasting there are 2 cowboys with a similar intention to the ONE podcast and Heather's goals as a host. The HYPERFORMANCE podcast; has brothers at it's helm hoping to help change the course of the media world when it comes to health and fitness. Equally tired of the same bullshit headlines that ravage their industry... Oscar and Angus saw a hole in their PT market, for people who want to learn, not just get rock hard abs. So they come to the delightful studio in Potts Point with a delicious Pimms and chat with our host Heather about: Feminism vs extreme feminism Mens rights activism Male violence from women and sexual assult. Feminism in sport and womens rights Instagram is just about fitness these days. The flaws, is what makes a woman beautiful to men. Picking rubbish partners, men do it too, and what is break up hygiene? This episode was recorded in July. The ONE podcast is proudly sponsored by the team at Body Armour, the smart drink, you have before consuming alcohol. When this podcast was recorded Heather had a BA drink an hour before recording so she was protecting her liver and body. It really works for her. She stands by it.
This episode is so raw, we had to bleep parts out to protect the guest and host. Heather Maltman has a super confronting chat with Saskia in the Potts Point studio in Sydney, about how much the entertainment industry needs a rocket up it to get cleaner. Saskia is very well known for her on screen talents, but she is also a smart young woman who is really making a difference in our world. This week the women talk about: Becoming jaded in the industry. Even at the top of your game you can feel like quitting. The acting world as a woman Being bullied until labeled trouble or a diva, or worse “acting like a victum” Publicity and the pressure on being sexy. W had to cut out Heather's “me too” story for legal reasons, due to being female and ostracised. Sexual discrimination The media twists headlines, we talk about the very thing ONE is trying to amend. The word vagina- and it's powerful word. The way bullies will slowly break you down. What is feminism? The shame of the film industry sexism and race.
Glenn Marsden started Imperfectly Perfect campaign because he had enough of the way mental health was being stigmatised in this country. He is a father, and everyday guy with a camera. Just a dude... Honest about what it looks like on the inside, this week Heather Maltman travels to Melbourne to find out how Alex Fevola "has it all"... That bloody saying that has caused women everywhere to jump cues and claw their best friends out of the way, just to seem like they've made it happen. Alex is a down to earth woman, who is warm and funny. She has drive and focus like that of a puma. She talks Heather through those tough life questions. We cover: The level of work that goes into getting what you want. It took her 18years… Wanting to help women feel confident with their makeup. Was a rebel in her business space. We are proudly supported by the guys at Body Armour, the smart drink helping change the way we consume alcohol.
This week is a little different. Due to the loss of a very special friend of Heather's she has decided to be honest with you in what has been happening. As we all know. Grief does not wait for a great time and time... Does not wait. Dedicated to Alan Selva. Rest well our friend. Proudly supported by Body Armour.
Heather Maltman met Tracie while working on radio. There was a fascination everyone around her had with doing art pieces for the likes of Jim Carey and Emma Watson... But Heather could not help but wonder what drove people to invest in her art in the first place. It had this raw fierce potential... So while everyone was busy doting over Tracie's "labelled work", Heather connected with her on a deeper level, and as a result. This week we travel to her art studio on the Gold Coast in QLD to talk about her life, and how she went from a sales woman who hated her life. To a free thinking artist who gets paid for her work. Andrew Csabi is an amazing man. He owns and runs a security company on the Gold Coast, Australia. When he met Heather on her previous radio show. After Dallas heard Heather on a podcast talking about her own family mental health battles, he courageously reached out to share about his own. Dallas almost died at birth, as he was born a heroin baby... In this incredibly compelling & heart felt episode, Heather and Dallas really discuss openly about what it's like to be the kid who doesn't come from the "normal" family. Which back in the 90's was anything other than a Mother, Father and siblings in a decent suburban home with clean uniforms and a brand new bicycle. Being houso kids, and needing local friends and family to help exist when your parent cannot, this podcast will cover the following topics: The desire to blow up your life, as it's what you know. "I just felt like the wrong mother for the job." Was the quote that rocked the world of Heather Maltman this week, from Chloe Maxwell. How one woman could achieve as much as this one has, and still feel like a failure is a real wake up call. When Heather arrived in Chloe and Matt Rogers home, she was welcomed into their Gold Coast abode with strawberries and coffee. The two women walked into the "Den", filled with leather couches and life time achievements. Chloe was so honest and hilarious about her life and career. From her father being an Elvis impersonator to her own work on Jabba's Morning Glory. She he speaks so electrically about her marriage to a football star, being a mother/ step mother, and about those times you just think you're screwing it all up. The questions Heather posed to Chloe were about how you keep going, and working, when it just feels like you cannot make it better?
Can you say you know the beauty of mental health challenges? Jess Rowe sits down with Heather in the middle of summer 2019, in the Potts Point studio and so wonderfully expresses how easy it is to find the joy in all aspects of life. Those WOO HOO moments as she calls them. Especially the parts of life we are told to hide away because they are BAD or WRONG or SCARY... Mental Health is actually something we ALL suffer from in some way or another. But it's also a great way to strengthen your mind body and soul... If you chose it to. Heather and Jess were both raised by wonderful women who as mothers, had an extra degree of difficulty. They both suffered from mental health. When heather first started on Studio Ten, it was one of the first things they both connected over. Jess picked straight away why Heather's family was absent on The Bachelor. To this day, Jess is Heather's greatest mentor and when she grows up she hopes she can be as crap at being a house wife as Jess. haha
Imagine waking up in hospital after being asleep too long and not knowing why you are there. Your foot is bandaged into a point. Family have flown across the country to be by your side. But the last ting you remember is going to a UNI party, and the world being at your feet. When Heather first met Mon Murphy she was giving a talk to the Girl's Who Glow initiative, about how she fell from a 5th floor balcony and lived to tell the tale. The two became fast friends as Mon recounted her ordeal of deciding to let Dr's take her foot. How she had to re learn how to walk and regain confidence. In life, it's so easy to get carried away by mundane little issues and gripes. So off goes Maltz on a little trip to Brisvagas (Brisbane, QLD) at Mon's little abode. Her kitty cat Rio is causing all kinds of trouble as they eat banana bread, and chat all things "life choices" and the "shoulda coulda woulda's". Mon really helps you remember that you have to chose where to put your focus, as relives that moment for us in the hospital. She opens up with us about what it was like to walk to her bother for the first time, winning silver, and deciding not to let this moment define her.
Katie Hale has had her fair share of knocks to the confidence and she just keeps on getting back up and loving who she is. If you have been judging the way you look lately and feeling less than "feminine" or thinking that you don't have "masculine" features... Then you need to listen to Katie, and how getting alopecia only boosted her confidence, when she could have let it break her. She is such a stunning person to be around. Heather first came across Katie in an article she had written about her hair loss. It really inspired Heather to look at steriotypes within our modern culture. We put so much focus on what makes "muscle" and what makes "feminine" in terms of appearance. But Katie proves that THAT is a load of crap. Katie opens up about how losing her hair at such a young age, changed her personality completely. She is such an attractive young woman, that when they sit down for a coffee and chat in chilly Melbourne. Heather is so in awe of her, that she tries to complement her. But it just gets weird. Enjoy.
How do you stay fit- body, mind & soul? Andrew Pap has an amazing work ethic when it comes to staying fit. He shares with Heather, and yourself, his secrets to living his healthy life. What his mantra's are, and where they came from. He didn't grow up in a perfect world. Far from it. When he gets to the Sydney studio in Potts Point, he is so down to earth and honest. Sharing his fears, and the way he stops them from taking over his ultimate goal. Heather shares with Pap why she finds she fluctuates with exercise. They end up discussing the unhealthy attitudes of society. What can cause us to become to self focused and not think about others. From Andrew's powerful words, Heather discovers something she should have been grateful for all this time. Something that had been taken for granted, and it most likely effected you in some way as well.
This week’s podcast is really special. Heather comes to you live from the Gold Coast at the Jellurgal Cultural Centre. She talks to the woman that started it all, Billie Musk. A local Yugambeh woman who helps shed some much-needed light on our cultural indifferences for the last day of Reconciliation week. A week that is more for our white Australian Culture than our Indigenous Australians. Billie helps explain that to Heather, as she asks her the tough questions about racism, housing commission and youth suicide in the Indigenous community. Heather is very passionate about this topic, as she herself (like many white Australian's unbeknown to them) has potential Indigenous relatives that she cannot find nor locate due to the policies back in the day, that caused mass cultural genocide. Enjoy the moment Heather cannot remember what year the settlement started, and for more fun. Head to her Facebook page to see her reaction to her own stupidity. Please note: The following podcast was recorded live and may contain images, videos, voices, references and art work of alive and deceased Indigenous peoples.
Abbie gets asked to write letters for people who are struggling. She hand writes letters and posts them out to who ever requests them. She doesn't get paid. She covers all the costs for stationary, postage and even has specially made letters for you. Every single letter is hand written. Every single letter is tailored for the person intended for it. This week, Heather travels to the Gold Coast, Australia, to find out why Abbie started this. What Maltz is confronted with, is dealing with her own need for a little bit of hope. What does Abbie get out of doing this? Well... Nothing! She just does it because she is scared for our future of humanity if we don't start to care for each other. Please share this weeks podcast in the hopes of finding her someone who will pay for this service to continue taking place. Abbie works full time and has started writing over 400 letters of hope.
Do you wonder if you're smart enough to achieve what you want in life? One of Heather's biggest fears is feeling like her houso childhood holds her back. The guys at Body Armour told her about this random dude they met in Brisbane who had literally started his own business from scratch and suggested she go talk to him. At first she shrugged it off... "what could a guy at a car detailing workshop teach me?". When she got to the giant warehouse in Sumner, Australia. She had completely pegged this guy as a dumb car guy who would probably be a misyogonist that just spoke to her like an idiot... How she was proven wrong will below you mind. Matt from gangsta Wraps is warm, real and full of wisdom from a different way of thinking and seeing the world. He in genuine and real. He teaches Heather about her own preconceptions and judgements. Get enlightened by this spiritual gansta...
Have you ever wondered if you're living your best life? Or if you're sweating the small stuff? Elle Halliwell has faced the most incredible uncertainty and transcended it. She talks in-depth about her career change and facing the unknown.
The overwhelming thoughts of life and how we all got here can, what it means and if you're enough, can cause you step too long into the dark. Grieving when we lose someone is like the base of a very painful iceberg, and when we don't process that emotion it can trap inside our soul and cause a lot of pain. Sam Webb is a friend of Heather's, who literally took the pain of losing his bast mate, and turned it into a lesson for others who are suffering. If you have felt like this world is too much for you, or that maybe you're alone and no-one gets your pain. This is the episode for you. Sam Webb joins us in the Sydney studio over looking the Harbour Bridge on a warm afternoon. He and Heather really open up and connect about those deep dark thoughts and share about how they have been stuck in the dark, and got back into the light. They touch on the me too movement as well as ways that the 2 genders can come together and better communicate. It's insightful, warm, and a true conversation. If you'd like more information head to Heather Maltman's socials or the website.
