Nationally touring artists Lynne Hanson and Anya Hinkle stopped by and visited with me prior to their performance at The Compass Listening Room in Columbia. Both of them played a couple songs for us in the studio. Absolutely wonderful.https://www.lynnehanson.com/https://anyahinkle.com/
I'm joined by musician Lynne Hanson for a fascinating look at the NFL or to those of us not in the states, American Football. As a Canadian musician, Lynne approaches the sport with a very unique perspective that I absolutely loved. Make sure you check out Lynne's amazing music via the links below! Sarah and Rob Skinner, who make music together as Red Dirt Skinners, have a sound that is much bigger than two people should ever be able to produce and they create music that ticks all the boxes - it can be catchy, and driving, and full of soaring harmonies and fabulous soprano sax solos. or they can pull everything back and become incredibly intimate. They join us on Episode 604 of Folk Roots Radio to talk about their great new album “Bear With Us” which sees the duo moving more into pop-rock, with a considerably fuller sound than previous albums. Formerly living in the UK, and now happy at home in Canada, it's a great interview - and Bear With Us is an excellent album. As always, we wrap up the hour with more new music and this time around we hear from Ptarmigan, Cynthia Marchant, John Pippus, Staran, Lynne Hanson and Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno. We're off to Pointe-Claire QC on Episode 597 of Folk Roots Radio to chat with singer-songwriter Rob Lutes about his wonderful eighth solo album “Come Around”. No stranger to this show, Rob Lutes' last album - the critically acclaimed “Walk In The Dark” was our favourite album of 2017. Come Around is another beautiful blend of folk, blues and Americana, and in some ways it's a reflection on the challenges we all face in life but particularly during these strange pandemic times. As always, we wrap up the episode with more great new releases, and this time around they are all by Canadian artists. Join us for new music by Lynne Hanson , Alicia Toner, The Fretless, Marc Audet, Barney Bentall & Geoffrey Kelly, Issac Murdoch (Bomgiizhik) & Matt Epp, Gordie Tentrees, Ken Tizzard & Music For Goats and The McDades. If you like the artists you hear on this show and want to support them, don't just stream their music – BUY their music and then you'll really make a difference to their income during this difficult time when it's much more challenging to find live shows. It’s Pledge-O-Rama time again! This is the one time of the year where we turn to the listeners for their help and hope that they will support our station and help us keep moving forward, and once again, they did! Thanks to everyone who supported us. In spite of the hectic, unpredictable nature of the show, we managed to do what we always do I tell you about new music and upcoming events, and play some of the best music in the world, music that doesn’t get nearly enough attention elsewhere.
Another Pledge-O-Rama has come and gone, and I can’t say how grateful I am for the support of my wonderful listeners. Your kindness and generosity will lift me through another year, and as always, I’ll try to make the show as good as possible. I think I managed that today, by replaying the amazing live performances from Leaf Rapids on the Steel Belted Free Range Radio pledge show, along with some really great new music and previews of some shows you won’t want to miss from the likes of Matt Epp, The Wailin’ Jennys, and NQ Arbuckle!

This weekend is the opening of that big, goofy museum at The Forks. As controversial as that thing is, they are bringing us some great music, and there’s nothing questionable about that, so some music from the performers this weekend, and some music with a message and for a good cause.
