Imaginary Cities is possibly one of the best bands to ever come out of the Great City. Their debut went over huge and shared the talents of Rusty Robot (formerly Matyas) and Marti Sarbit to the world. Their debut album Temporary Resident broke me and many others into a million pieces. We take a walk through the album, offering some back history and a proper introduction to this must-have album. That time on the Reel Debaters with Rusty Robot: https://www.thereeldebaters.ca/episode/ep-67-i-will-now-sell-5-copies-of-the-three-eps-by-the-beta-band-part-1All songs from the album Temporary Resident, released in 2011 on Hidden PonyHummingbirdRide This OutSay YouManitoba BossanovaDon't Cry Where'd All The Living GoAdditional Music:Put A Lid On It - Squirrel Nut Zippers from the album Hot, released 1996 on Mammoth RecordsLandfall - Lanikai Wave of Mutilation - The Pixies from the album Doolittle, released 1989 on 4ADWatch Your Money - The Waking Eyes from the album Video Sound, released 2004 on Warner Music CanadaWattershed - The Foo Fighters from the album Foo Fighters released 1995 on Capital RecordsAnd of course, the Theme Song of the show is Flying by Todd McGinity (Bros Before Gin)#podcast #music #canada #winnipeg #manitoba #imaginarycities #rustyrobot #martisarbitWebsite: www.seanmcginity.caMerch: Red Bubble: https://www.redbubble.com/people/seangeekpodcast/shopTee Public: https://www.teepublic.com/seangeekpodcast@seangeekpodcast on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook@fastfretfingers on Instagram@ToddGeeks Tech Talk on Facebook @captivatefmMentioned in this episode:Want Merch? You can get your own SeanGeek and FastFret Merch over at our storefront on Teepublic, over at https://www.teepublic.com/stores/seangeek-podcastThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

The story first appeared in the Summer 2014 issue of the magazine and was included in Stinging Fly Stories, 2018. It is one of twelve stories included in The Hour After Happy Hour, Mary's forthcoming short-story collection, which The Stinging Fly Press will publish this summer. We dive into chapter 8 – Imaginary Cities – of The Dawn of Everything by Graeber and Wengrow. We talk about the origins of cities and contradict the commonly held belief that proto-state governance—e.g. centralized, hierarchical administration—developed in tandem with urban society. Instead, early cities existed for hundreds of years, organized by bottom-up self-governance, before the palaces and temples became the centers of urban power. Books Editor Martin Doyle talks to Darran Anderson about his memoir of growing up in Troubles-torn Derry, Inventory: A River, A City, A Family. They discuss the book's themes of family, history and memory, its inspiration found in the ideas of Georges Perec, and how it relates to his previous work, Imaginary Cities, an exploration of urban landscapes that never were, or that existed only on the page or on the screen.
Our interview with folk-pop cosmic balladeer Mister K went much further than we were able to share with you on Episode 491 of Folk Roots Radio. Check out the full interview below. Kevin Roy Kratsch spent five years on the road as country folk singer-songwriter Kevin Roy before re-inventing himself as cosmic balladeer Mister K, and starting work on “In Event Of Moon Disaster”, a folk-pop journey through the highs and lows of a mental health struggle, what Kevin describes as those 'Darker Days'. In Event Of Moon Disaster was created with producer and collaborator Rusty Matyas (The Sheepdogs, The Weakerthans, Imaginary Cities) who opened up about his own struggles with alcoholism prior starting work on the project. The two found support, inspiration, and empowerment while breathing life into these songs; a testament to the strength of healing through music and art. There have been three singles released from the album, so far: “Hundreds Of Dollars”, “Lonely One” and the latest, “Darker Days” – Kevin’s personal story and a song he hopes will be a conversation starter with respect to the importance of discussing mental health. The new single is being released on January 29 to coincide with Bell Let’s Talk Day. The full album will arrive later in 2020. Mister K sat down with Folk Roots Radio at the 2019 Folk Music Ontario conference to chat about the new project. For more information about the music of Mister K, visit heyheymisterk.com. Music: Mister K “Hundreds of Dollars” and “Lonely One” from “In Event of Moon Disaster” (2020, Self) and “Darker Days” (Live).

In this special summer season of The Infinite City, listen out for interviews with professionals whose careers have intersected with the city of Belfast and with the work of PLACE. But first, we have a live episode we recorded last October. Our venue was the amazing Sonic Lab at Queen's University. If you haven't already heard it, Part 1 featuring Aisling O'Beirn and Garrett Carr is available now. Here, in part 2, our guests are Darran Anderson, the Derry-born, London-based author of Imaginary Cities and Agustina Martire, who came from South America by way of several other cities to settle in Belfast, as an urbanist and lecturer and an advocate of city streets. We also have a wrap up session with all four guests and some audience Q&A. This live episode was made possible thanks to the support of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Arts & Business NI, British Council and Belfast International Arts Festival. The Infinite City is a project by PLACE. Our Summer Season 2019 is supported by Belfast City Council.
Where, and how, does nature writing intersect with architectural criticism? Urban exploration? Hauntology? Nationalism and fascism? This week, Tom Overton talks to writer and Influx Press co-founder Gary Budden about how his collection 'Hollow Shores' blends nature writing and weird fiction, his collaborations with filmmaker and fellow Influx author Adam Scovell and illustrator Maxim Peter Griffin, how writers as aesthetically and politically diverse as Derek Jarman and Henry Williamson have represented the English landscape, and more. Vi fick en bok i våra händer: Imaginary Cities, skriven av Darren Andersson. Den blev en utgångspunkt för oss att fundera kring visioner, utopier och föreställningar om vad städer är – men kanske... En podcast om städer.
A podcast in pursuit of beauty, mystery, and the sublime in everyday life.
Here is a good life lesson kids: when absolutely er'thing goes to shit and all your plans fall through - take a chance. That's what I did one Friday night recently and I ended up getting to sit knee to knee with one of my favourite artists, getting to know him and his incredible producer while telling stories together and commiserating on being 35. Grant Davidson is Slow Leaves; Rusty Matyas is producing with him but is also known for The Sheepdogs, The Weakerthans and Imaginary Cities (all brilliant bands btw if you haven't heard by now, and I assume you already trust my every word :) Thank you guys for an incredible night, live music in a hotel room and of course, telling me stories. You can find Grant at www.slowleaves.com or on Twitter @SlowLeaves. Support the Tell Me Stories Podcast
El saxofonista Chris Potter le pone banda sonora a las "Imaginary Cities" junto a la Underground Orchestra, una formación de once músicos que supone una extensión de su cuarteto habitual. Welcome to a relatively diverse episode of Canadian Musician Radio. Joining us this week is Esma, a Toronto-based pop artist who's been turning plenty of heads in the last few years. She's shared stages with some monsters like Jadakiss, Jay Sean, and LMFAO and worked alongside some top producers from the hip-hop realm, including Fingaz (Snoop Dogg) and fellow Canuck Rich Kidd (Drake, Busta Rhymes). We'll chat about her current projects and some tips for networking and navigating the industry. We've also got Matt Epp, the Winnipeg-born, Toronto-based singer-songwriter whose latest album, Ready In Time, marks a sonic departure from his more folk-inspired back catalogue. We talk about his work with producer Rusty Matyas (The Waking Eyes, Imaginary Cities) and some of the other things on the horizon. Finally, we have Aldo Mazza, the man behind KoSA, a Montreal-based percussion institution celebrating the 20th edition of its annual Workshop, Fetsival, and Camp in July. We talk about his history with the organization and some of the initiatives planned for the future.
This week on the show, we take you to the historic Bailey Theatre in Camrose for a performance by Winnipeg act Slow Leaves. That’s the moniker for singer-songwriter Grant Davidson, who draws inspiration from '70s era songwriters like Gene Clark of The Byrds, and Mickey Newbury. You’ll hear songs from Slow Leaves’ latest release, Beauty is So Common, produced by Rusty Matyas of Imaginary Cities. It’s a collection catchy songs that calls to mind the era of Davidson’s influences.
